Mobile retrogaming specialist DotEmu has released its arcade beat-'em-up compilation Double Dragon Trilogy for iOS and Android devices, following up on its previous mobile ports of R-Type and Out of This World.
The collection includes the original arcade version of Double Dragon, along with its coin-op sequels Double Dragon 2: The Revenge and Double Dragon 3: The Rosetta Stone. All games offer optional remixed soundtracks, Bluetooth-enabled co-op and controller support, and a new "mobile" difficulty mode that tones down the quarter-munching challenge of the arcade originals.
Bear in mind that the arcade version of Double Dragon 3 is completely different from the widely hated NES version, but it's arguably just as bad; among other things, it served as an early progenitor of paid DLC, requiring players to insert additional quarters for weapons and other in-game bonuses. Fortunately, the mobile version lets you feed its virtual arcade machine with as many credits as you want, making the game a breeze.

We may have called the Nexus 5 "the best phone $350 can buy," but its camera didn't exactly impress. The latest version of the Android OS, set to roll out in the "next couple of days," is aimed at fixing that. In an interview with Dave Burke, Google's Director of Engineering for Android, The Verge reports that Android 4.4.1 will address issues with autofocus, white balance, exposure and more by increasing camera speed. No word on a specific date, but Google assured us that it's coming soon.
Update: And by the "next couple days" Google apparently meant today. Android 4.4.1 is rolling out today and brings with it the aforementioned improvements along with the ability to pinch-zoom the viewfinder in HDR+ mode.

PlayJam announced that its HDMI plug-in microconsole GameStick will host a port of Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow and the Flame in its online storefront by the end of December.
Originally released in 1993, The Shadow and the Flame featured creative, difficult puzzle-platforming gameplay in the same vein as its 1989 Apple II predecessor. A mobile remake hit iOS and Android in July, which will likely serve as the base for the upcoming GameStick edition.
Funded by a successful Kickstarter project earlier this year, the GameStick met with a series of delays before finally hitting store shelves last month alongside the PlayStation 4. The GameStick is currently available at GameStop and other retailers.

Some observers have seen Apple’s launches this year as proof of a strategy, and a sign that the powerhouse firm isn’t about to lose market share yet.
“Apple are constantly surprising me at present – I was in the ‘Apple without direction after Jobs’ camp until I saw iOS 7, Mavericks and the Mac Pro,” Robert Peckham of MacTechnology told PCR, referring to the latest iterations of Apple’s operating systems and the high-end desktop PC set for release this month.
“More new portable products and updates to OS X were serving as a distraction from the appearance that Apple weren’t concentrating on developing any new Macs."
“But then the new Mac Pro was announced. It’s obvious this design has taken longer to bring to market than Apple had predicted, but it shows what’s yet to come from the company."
“I actually reckon they’re set to be going ahead stronger than ever.”
Brian Trevaskiss of More Computers reflected that while some may criticise seemingly minor annual updates, Apple is still strong at its core.
“Apple have launched some truly innovative products, but it’s unrealistic to expect new innovations every year,” he told PCR.
“The iPhone and iPad are tough acts to follow.”
Trevaskiss added that the announcement of the new Mac Pro was a particularly strong move by Apple.
“This market will always need powerful desktops, and it’s an area Apple has always targeted – so it makes perfect sense for it to continue,” he explained.
Ben Wood, director of devices at market tracker CCS Insight, stated that Apple is also successfully fending off increased competition from lower-priced tablets, saying: “Whilst Apple is set to maintain its dominance of the premium tablet market and stranglehold of value share, its entry-level iPad Mini offerings are coming under pressure from increasing competition from players such as Amazon and Google, alongside new launches from Tesco and Nokia.”
Wood added that Apple is making the right moves in order to convince consumers that its premium prices are worthwhile, by offering software and services for free.
“Arguably the most important announcements the company made are related to software,” he said.
“Offering its iWorks suite [of productivity software] free with new Mac and iOS devices and offering existing customers free upgrades is a clear effort to disrupt Microsoft’s established business model.”
“This signals to customers that they can buy an Apple product with confidence and get major updates at no additional charge. This will accelerate consumer adoption of future iOS and OS X software releases and give Apple a platform from which it can accelerate new service roll outs and adoption.”

Kabam released The Hobbit: Kingdoms of Middle-earth mobile game in partnership with Warner Bros, MGM and New Line Cinema last year to coincide with the big screen release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
Since then, the game has grossed almost $100 million as millions of players globally throw themselves into the world of hobbits, elves, dwarves, goblins and magic.
Users have collectively created over one million alliances, built 16 million cities and wage over four million battles daily.
And now ahead of sequel The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug hitting cinemas next week, Kabam has released an expansion pack of the same name for the fantasy title.
The update will allow players to access new armour, weapons and more when facing off against dragon enemy Smaug.
The studio's goal was to allow fans of the franchise to connect with the game from the start. That's why characters including Gandalf, Thorin Oakenshield and Legolas can be found within the intro with all of their likenesses captured in lifelike detail.
The Hobbit: Kingdoms of Middle-earth app is available for free from the App Store and on Google Play.

Hey hey, it's a party in the USA, or at least, it will be for UK-to-US travelers who are signed up to Three. The network has just announced that those intrepid pond-hoppers will be entitled to roam with their UK allowances of data, text and calls absolutely free. It's not just the US that's joining the party either, as it'll also apply to those journeying to Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Macau. We assume, just like the other Feel At Home countries, that calls to non-UK numbers will still incur fees, and tethering's still a no-go option, but that hasn't stopped us splurging on some long-haul flights for this afternoon.

An active online Ouya community appears to be on the brink of thrusting the Android console into a brand new controversy.
The creator of Ouyaforum.com has urged users of his siteto embark on a Twitter campaign targeting developers and urging them to bring their games to the console.
‘The Ouya Tweet-a-thon Part 3’ has four objectives – “to get the attention of both indie developers and the triple-A developers, and let them know that there are people out there that would love to see their games on the Ouya”, to “convince developers to jump on board ASAP”, to “get the attention of media outlets (especially those that have not been so kind to OUYA)” and to “thank the Ouya team”.
Well, at least they’ve achieved one of those objectives.
A tweet template is even provided: "@devstwitteraccount I want to see "name of game" on OUYA! #ouyagameathon"
However, in news that will surprise more or less nobody at all, the idea has already irritated many developers, leading to public demands for the tweets to stop:

Designed for children between the ages of six months to three years, the rocker chair features a child-proof stand to hold an iPad in position while the child plays with it or watches videos.
The £90 (£55) stand, which can rotate between vertical and horizontal orientations, can be set to three different angles and has a touchscreen cover to guard against mess and smudges.

Tesco's £119 own-brand tabet - the Hudl - has sold more than 300,000 units since launching on September 30th.
The supermarket made the announcement as part of its third quarter interim management statement, which revealed Tesco's like-for-like sales dipped 1.5 per cent during the quarter.
"The customer response to the launch of our Hudl tablet has been very strong, with over 300,000 units sold to date," said Tesco in a statement.
"This is more than we had originally planned to sell in total in the run-up to Christmas. Hudl has also received critical acclaim as one of the best-value tablets on the market."
Argos launched its own MyTablet and PC World/Currys has the Advent Vega Tegra Note 7exclusively in a bid to compete with Tesco's Hudl.
Last month, PCR looked at the tablet market in the run-up to Christmas 2013, and Tesco previously released a Hudl infographic.
Argos also told us it is keen to avoid a 'race to the bottom' on price around tablets and tech.

Bitdefender's chief security strategist Catalin Cosoi says the latest version of Android needs to massively improve in order to avoid future security incidents.
With the operating system surpassing iOS in terms of installations this year, Cosoi warned users that while there are benefits to using Android over iOS for enterprise, ‘Bring Your Own Device’ users are at particular risk of exposing corporate data, accounts and files to information-harvesting applications.
“One of the benefits of using Android for enterprise is the fact that it allows greater integration with mobile device management solutions,” explained Cosoi.
“Secondly, anti-virus and anti-theft solutions are much easier to manage via enterprise policies than other mobile operating systems."
“Of course, the downside is that Android is also much more targeted by malicious software than any other mobile platform – more than 90 per cent of existing mobile malware is currently targeting Android users.”

Wadjet Eye Games is planning to port its PC games to iOS. The news comes from a post by developer Janet Gilbert on the Adventure Game Studio forums, later confirmed by the indie developer to Joystiq. Gilbert's post sought help from a "skilled AGS scripter" to bring the developer's entire back catalog to iOS by "altering the AGS source of our games to make them run nicely on iPhone."
Wadjet Eye Games told Joystiq that while it doesn't own the rights to Emerald City Confidential, any of its other games could be ported to iOS, "starting with the Blackwell series." The developer's first attempt at adapting an adventure game to the platform using AGS was with Gemini Rue, which we found to beparticularly enjoyable on iPhone.

Double Fine's spelunking adventure game, The Cave, is now available on Ouya, joining counterparts on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, PC, Mac, Linux and iOS. We gaveThe Cavea go on XBLA and found it to be "the cruelest of Double Fine's games, and perhaps the most sharply written."
Ouya received an update in November granting it a fresh UI and a beta for external storage. Ouya launched pre-orders for a white, limited edition consolewith double the internal storage, 16GB, for $130. That's $30 more than the standard console. Pre-orders before December 8 should arrive in time for the holidays, Ouya says.

Namco Bandai’s Ridge Racer IP is to try its hand at smartphones.
The brand is to mark its 20th birthday by releasing an iOS and Android title called Ridge Racer Slipstream that will, according to the publisher, “bring the series' popular racing and drifting mechanics to a new racing engine”.
It will feature several game modes including career, ten tracks available in both forward and reverse and vehicle modding for its selection of 12 cars.
There’s no word yet on what payment model it will use, but judging by Namco Bandai’s recent output F2P seems like an almost certain bet.
Ridge Racer Slipstream is due out this month.

Retailers will not be permitted to sell the HTC One Mini smartphone as of this Friday (Dec 6th) in the UK.
Nokia has triumphed in a patent dispute with rival HTC, ruling that the handset infringes some Nokia-owned patents. HTC had tried to argue that Nokia was not one of its UK competitors – an argument that was resoundingly dismissed.
Even worse, HTC’s flagship HTC One may also be at risk, although the judge in question has granted HTC time to appeal owing to the fact that a potential ban on that model could have a significant financial impact on the company.
Regardless, HTC has agreed to stop importing its devices to the UK until the date of the next legal hearing at the earliest.
HTC is apparently “working with its chip suppliers to explore alternative solutions" that would allow it to re-release a version of the phone that would not fall foul of the same patents.

Both iPhones have attracted less market share than the iPhone 5 following release.
Both new iPhone models have gained Apple an impressive amount of market share from the date of its release. However has not yet lived up to the results following the release of the iPhone 5, reveals Kantar Worldpanel ComTech.
The iPhone 5S is the better performing out of the two, selling three times that of the 5C. It’s not just sales numbers separating the two iDevices either – Apple’s first venture out of the high-end handset realm, has attracted new custom, broadening its device audience.
The iPhone 5C - being the ‘cheaper’ of the two smartphones - has given households with smaller incomes the opportunity to try out the device.
42 per cent of owners of the plastic iPhone earn less than $49,000 compared with just 21 per cent for iPhone 5S. They also tend to be a little older; with an average age of 38 years old compared to 34 years old for the 5S.
It has also been revealed that more than half of 5C owners switched from a competing brand, with the two main rivals being Samsung and LG.
Dominic Sunnebo, strategic insight director at Kantar Worldpanel ComTech, said: “The new releases have led to spectacular results in certain markets. In Japan, where the iPhone is now available via the country’s largest carrier NTT DoCoMo, Apple’s share hit 76.1 per cent during October.
“In the US, Apple’s October share reached 52.8 per cent. Mainland Europe remains more challenging for iOS, particularly markets like Italy and Germany where handsets subsides are far lower.
“Britain is more positive; iOS sales share is now at 28.7 per cent for the last three months, with sales driven by the higher-end 5S model, which has outsold the 5C by three to one since their release.”
Who knows what the next iPhone might bring. Smartphone users tend to be more interested in full releases rather than updates, explaining why the iPhone 5 experienced stronger sales than the two new devices - meaning that Apple will have to pull something fresh out the bag to keep the ever growing gang of iFans happy.
