Majesco today announced the release of Romans from Mars, a new mobile endless-wave castle defense game. The game is available for free for iOS and Android devices on the iTunes App Store, Google Play and Amazon Appstore.

In Romans from Mars, players must defend their castle from an invading Martian army led by Mars, the God of War. The game brings a fresh new perspective to a popular genre by changing the player’s perspective to a 1^stperson view and introducing them to a whole new take on Roman mythology.

Corona SDK coming to Windows Phone in 2014

Support for mobile SDK extended to Microsoft’s mobile and tablet platforms

Microsoft has partnered with Corona Labs to bring the Corona SDK to Windows Phone 8 and Windows Store apps next year.

Support for Windows Phone 8 and Windows Store will give Corona users the ability to use their existing code to build apps for these platforms, in addition to the SDK’s existing support for iOS, Android, Kindle and Nook.

Beta support for Windows Phone 8 will be available from Corona in the first quarter of 2014.

Microsoft has brought a number of firms creating cross-platform developer tools on board in order to make it Windows Phone platform more accessible.

“We continue to see strong growth within the Windows app ecosystem, thanks in part to contributions from companies like Corona Labs,� says Todd Brix, general manager, Windows Apps and Store, Microsoft Corp.

Facebook to buy BlackBerry?

Rumours surrounding a Facebook phone reignited by the meeting, even though Zuckerberg denied any intention to build a device.
BlackBerry bosses took the trip over to California to meet with the Facebook fat-cats, to have a little chin wag over the possible purchase of the failing Canadian company, reports the Wall Street Journal.
If there are actually any plans for the social network to manufacture their own device, buying BlackBerry would cut out the middle man saving a lot of time and money.
However the biggest challenge would be raising the zomBlackBerry from the dead, and getting the trust from consumers aside from its most dedicated fans.
Mark Zuckerberg previously denied any intention to release a smartphone, saying it was the “wrong strategy.�
Instead it worked on its Facebook Home software, aiming to gain deeper partnerships with manufacturers. The software is a mobile-first social interface allowing users to access Facebook direct from a home screen and interact with contacts without leaving the app they are using.
Even if Facebook isn’t interested in releasing a device, there are other aspects of BlackBerry that could be deemed as tempting. Such as its patents, consisting of security-network technology and smartphone component patents. These alone are estimated at around $1 to $3 billion.
Plus the obvious renewed interest in its messenger tool BBM, which has 20 million iPhone and Android users, and 80 million total monthly active users.
The BlackBerry bidding war rages on, previously holding talks with Google, Cisco and SAP to combat the $4.7 billion offer from Fairfax.

Google hands out 17,000 Nexus 7s to those affected by Hurricane Sandy

The devices valued at $2.7 million will be given to libraries, senior centres, and business and community centres.
Giving Google has donated 17,000 of its Nexus 7 tablets –which posted one million sales per month just after its launch - to the New York State Community Action Association, who aims to improve the quality of life for low-income families, reports Mashable
In this case, it is fighting to help those who were affected by Hurricane Sandy which ravaged the state a year ago.
Google hopes to tackle issues faced by those who are still struggling to get on their feet due to closed facilities, lost jobs and homes and other longer-term challenges by giving away the tablets.
The plan is to offer people easier ways of staying in contact with friends and family and searching for jobs or new homes.
The launch of the Nexus 7 had to be postponed in October 2012 due to the storm, and Google gave a helping hand during the disaster by pushing out alerts and updates to Android devices.

iPhone 5S battery defects leave some devices feeling drained

More than a thousand devices are thought to be faulty.
One of the selling points of the iPhone 5S is its longer battery life, however due to a manufacturing defect, some models lose power faster.
Apple has not specified how many devices they reckon have been affected, however a state released by the company indicate that at least a couple of thousand phones are suffering.
This is not the first time the company has faced issues with iPhone batteries, the launch of the iPhone 5 was delayed due to faulty batteries. Only 30 per cent actually met the required standards.
Teresa Brewer, a spokeswoman for Apple, said: “We are reaching out to customers with affected phones and will provide them with a replacement phone.

Super Tank Poker' is the 11th PlayStation Mobile title released by 'TACS Games', the one man indie studio behind 'Shuttle Quest 2000' and 'Out Of Mind'.

A tactical strategy game with cards and tanks, 16 bit retro graphics and an authentic SNES style soundtrack.

"While working on a generic engine for turn based tactical combat games I came upon the idea of a tactics game where the combat was not determined by luck or stats but by a game of poker. In the game a player would consider their combatants as resources as much as actors and an actor's ability to wage war was defined by their value as much as it represented their health. Any unit could best any other with the right advantages and enough luck. The idea came together almost all at once but I decided that the concept would need plenty of testing and this happened in two phases. Initially I had some friends come round and play a prototype of the basic game mocked up with a chess board as a battlefield with chess pieces as tanks and dominoes for barriers. We used paper playing cards to represent the playing cards. Obviously. The game as it stood worked well enough lacked emphasis on the position of tanks. I added the notion of tank position determining initial bet and this seemed to work and I moved into production. The second phase came when the game was playable on device. I wasn't wholly happy with the way it was working and so I recorded a long playtest video and shared this with the PSM community and my followers on twitter. I got lots of feedback and encouragement. Lots of little changes and additions came from this phase but the most important of all would be the special effects and mission types. With these in place the game started to feel complete and I went on to finish the game."

Krasnodymov Production just announced the iOS game Luna Llena: Full Moon must soon get its final look. The mobile version of the board game was presented just recently in October in Messe Essen in SPIEL game trade fair. It means the day the game application will get to iTunes and App Store is not far off.

Let's remind that the upcoming iPad game is a digital version of a real board game of the same name, produced by Gen X Games. Players (can be more than one) play for a group of tourists lost in a forest, their map is stolen and two of their friends are kidnapped (actually by werewolves). Rocket Ranger Takes Off With Mobile Release

Gamers who whiled away hours on classic Amiga titles are in for a treat as one of the best-loved sci-fi action games from the era is set for a re-launch on Apple® and Android® mobile phones and tablets this month.

Rocket Ranger was first released by Cinemaware® on the Commodore® Amiga in 1988. It became one of the most beloved and iconic Cinemaware games of all time and was released on several other platforms, including the Japanese FM-Towns computer and Nintendo’s NES.

Taking its inspiration from 1950s TV sci-fi serials, the game sets the player in a world where the Nazis won World War II. Truckloads of people still use Windows despite the slump in PC shipments, so it's no surprise that a lot of folks snagged Microsoft's Remote Desktop app. 17 days after its debut, Microsoft says the app has counted 1 million downloads across the Android, iOS and OS X platforms. The software, which lets users access their computers through other gadgets, is also the fastest growing among the company's Android apps that include SkyDrive and Office Mobile. Vulnerability lets attackers hijack iOS apps' web requests over WiFi

Be careful which WiFi hotspots you use -- Skycure has just revealed a web-based exploit that lets attackers hijack a iOS device on the same network through its mobile apps. The technique intercepts some apps' attempts to cache a web status message, redirecting the request to a hostile server; after that, an intruder can stealthily inject malware from any location. Thankfully, there are already some solutions at hand. Victims can uninstall apps to scrub their devices clean, and Skycure has released app code that prevents the web caching from taking place.
