You like your Windows Phones big, right? If so, you'd best put in your preorder for theLumia 1520, because Nokia's six-inch smartphone will arrive on AT&T's frequencies in just a few weeks. According to Microsoft's own store listing, it'll also come priced at $199, and you'll be able to choose between black, white, yellow or red color options to flank the 1080p display (a first for WP8). Nokia's gone for the middle PureView specification, with a 20MP sensor capable of lossless digital zoom alongside all those requisite imaging software bells and whistles. This time around, however, there's expandable storage alongside the 16GBs of built-in space, meaning plenty of room for photography purists to save shots in RAW format. The rest of us can simply fill those extra gigs by shooting even more photos and video.

Hey, do you remember Advent? It turns out that the Dixons-owned brand has slapped its logo all over NVIDIA's Tegra Note reference design tablet in preparation for the holidays. Packing a 7-inch 1,280 x 800 display, the Advent Vega Tegra Note comes with a Tegra 4 paired with 1GB RAM, 16GB storage and Jelly Bean. 'Round back, you'll find a 5-megapixel primary camera and a 2-megapixel webcam up front, and there's micro-USB, micro-HDMI-out, Bluetooth 4.0 and 802.11 b/g/n WiFi finishing off the spec list. As with the original, the slate comes with a stylus, which NVIDIA promises will be incredibly responsive thanks to its DirectStylus know-how. Pre-orders begin tomorrow, and the hardware will start hitting doorstops on November 15 for the rather reasonable sum of £180.

November 7th, 2013, 01:03 Posted By: wraggster
Just a couple weeks ago, Pebble CEO Eric Migicovsky told us that his company is solely focused on cranking out new software to improve the watch's user experience. Today he's making good on the promise by announcing two enhancements to the product's ecosystem: an iOS 7-compatible app and a new developer kit that will give third parties a lot more access to the watch's internal components and sensors. As an added bonus, the company also announced that it's working with partners like Foursquare, Yelp and GoPro to produce new apps for each.
Starting with iOS, the new and improved iOS 7 app expands the watch's current notification capabilities. Previously, users have only been able to receive alerts for calls, texts and emails, but iOS 7 integration will broaden the Pebble's capacity to include any notifications enabled in your Notification Center, which fortunately includes Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+, Instagram, and the list goes on.
Pebble's also updating its SDK to version 2.0, which will give developers more access to the hardware and software within the watch itself. An accelerometer API will open doors for gesture-based controls and fitness-related apps. A data logging API enables apps to store sensor data and other info (motion trackers and game scores are examples) when you're away from your phone, and a Javascript API will make Pebble apps compatible on both Android and iOS by only inserting a few lines of code (there are currently a lot of apps that are only compatible with one or the other, so this will help trim down unwanted fragmentation). Migicovsky tells us that the new developer kit is going to start rolling out as a beta over the coming weeks, which will give third parties the chance to get their feet wet before it's time to push their apps live.

Advent is bringing its latest tablet to Currys and PC World exclusively.
The Vega Tegra Note 7, which is powered by Nvidia’s Tegra 4 processor – including a quad-core Cortex-A15 CPU, a battery-saving fifth core and a 72-core GPU – will be available to preorder from tomorrow (November 7th), with a release date set for November 15th.
The seven-inch tablet, which will cost £179.99 and comes with a stylus, includes Nvidia’s DirectStylus, PureAudio and Chimera technologies for stylus precision, audio quality and new photography features, respectively. TegraZone gaming and controller support is also included, with the tablet’s battery life expected to be around 10 hours when playing HD video.
“We are very excited to bring the Nvidia-powered Advent Vega Tegra Note 7 to market in the UK – it is the perfect device for customers who want a high performance, feature-rich tablet,” said Dave Ward, Head of Advent Computing for Currys and PC World.
“Advent makes technology as easy to understand as possible and the Vega Tegra Note is no exception. This new tablet doesn’t compromise on features and capability, bringing together the latest tech.”

Apple has cut the component costs of its new iPad Air, which carries a lower bill of materials (BOM) than the third-generation iPad that was introduced last year.
According to teardown analysis service IHS, the 16GB cellular iPad Air has a BOM of $304 (around £188). This represents a six per cent reduction compared to the BOM of the same third-gen model.
"While the iPad Air slims down in size, the profit margins are getting fatter," said Andrew Rassweiler, senior director, cost benchmarking services for IHS.
"Although the Air's new, ultrathin display and touchscreen are more expensive than for the third-generation iPad, Apple has held the line on cost by taking advantage of price erosion in other areas. Furthermore, the iPad Air leverages the same components and suppliers that are used in the iPhone 5s and 5c as much as possible."
At launch, the iPad 3 had a starting price of £399, same as the iPad Air.

Still kicking around a first generation iPad? Quit it. That tablet is bulky, old and four generations out of date. We know, new hardware is expensive - but Target is making it pretty hard not to upgrade. Until November 9th, the big box retailer is offering $200 in store credit for any iPad, regardless of generation. The trade needs to happen at a brick and mortar location, but the other caveats aren't too heavy: as long as the iPad works, powers on and isn't marred by a scratched or broken screen, you're good to go. A successful trade will still leave you $299 shy of Apple's new iPad Air, but it drops the non-retina iPad Mini's price tag down to a cool $99. If that doesn't appeal, the credit can be used on virtually any item in the store. After all, tablet computing isn't for everybody.

Verizon subscribers who think that even the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 is too costly now have an extra-frugal option. The carrier has just launched the previously rumored Ellipsis 7, its first self-badged Android slate. The 7-inch LTE device is no screamer with its 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 8GB of expandable storage, 1,280 x 800 IPS screen, 3.2-megapixel rear camera and basic front-facing shooter. However, it may be appealing to Google purists who've so far been denied a working Nexus 7 on Verizon -- the tablet is running a near-stock version of Android 4.2. Those intrigued by the Ellipsis 7 can pick one up starting November 7th, when it will be available for either $250 contract-free or $150 on a two-year term.

T-Mobile's offer of 200MB in free monthly data for tablet owners seemed too good to be true, and to some extent it was -- a few customers have ended up with bills. However, the company has set the record straight with a Q&A post. To get completely free internet access, you'll need to own a fully paid-off device; opt for the carrier's financing and you'll have to tack on a $20 data plan if you aren't already a customer. Mentions of an additional $10 network access fee were a mistake, T-Mobile says. The gratis internet service does have some strings attached, then, but it really is possible to avoid charges if you're careful.

The Ouya catalogue has officially surpassed 500 game releases, company CEO Julie Uhrman has announced.
Uhrman revealed the new development on the Android-powered microconsole’s official site, while also providing a full list of developers who have available games on the hardware.
"Just wanted to take a moment and say thank you to all the Devs who shared their games with us. Thank you for your range and experimentation,” Uhrman wrote.
“And, for all you Devs still working on games, we can't wait to play them, and we know it's only the beginning–great games take time.”
Ouya recently hired free-to-play specialist Tadhg Kelly, as well as unveiled plans for Ouya 2.0 – both in effort toward their ongoing goal to build a wide-spread and diverse development pool for the system.

Samsung may become the first tech company to offer a 12.2-inch tablet.
Sources from Taiwanese supply chain manufacturers speaking to the Digitimes said that the electronics giant “has been developing 12.2-inch tablets and adopt[ing] a film-based capacitive touch solution”.
The new touchscreen technology is rumoured to be provided by the Chinese tech company Shenzhen O-film Tech.
The production of the big-screen tablets is predicted to begin at the end of this year.
“With its advantage of in-house memory, panels and assembly as well as global brand reputation and marketing resources, Samsung's initiative to offer large-size tablets may cause other vendors to follow suit in 2014,” added the sources.

Nokia might be preparing to launch an eight-inch Lumia tablet in early 2014.
Sources speaking to Evleaks and The Verge say that the smaller-size tablet, which will run on Windows RT 8.1 and a Qualcomm processor, has been codenamed ‘Illusionist’.
If true, the Illusionist’s size would put it in line with Apple’s iPad Mini, which has a 7.9-inch screen.
An early 2014 release would mean the eight-inch device would follow Nokia’s 10.1-inch Lumia 2520, expected for release before the end of 2013, and come out at around the same time as a rumoured 7.5-inch ‘Surface Mini’ from Nokia’s major partner Microsoft.

It may have taken almost a year and a half, but Google can at last say that the absolute majority of active Android devices are using some form of Jelly Bean. The company's OS dashboard shows that 52.1 percent of owners are running at least Android 4.1; most of those (37.3 percent of the total) rely on the oldest version, but Android 4.2's use has already doubled since August. Jelly Bean's reign may be short-lived, however. The milestone comes just as Android 4.4 KitKat is reaching the public -- given Google's focus on supporting as many devices as possible with the new OS, it may not be long before Jelly Bean is once again in the minority.

We forgive you if Samsung's Galaxy S4 Zoom(ed) out of mind since its announcement back in June -- it was nearly five months ago (or eons in mobile years). Now that we're leading up to the holiday season, however, AT&T's adding that hybrid Android device to its 4G LTE lineup for $200 with the standard two-year agreement on November 8th. But there is an additional dangling carrot for those that want more than just a 4.3-inch mix of the best of the GS4 with a 16-megapixel sensor tacked on back: a free Galaxy Tab 3. You'll either have to sign up for a new contract or qualify for AT&T's Nextprogram to snag the tablet, but keep in mind, a separate data plan is still required. That's because nothing in life is free. Also, life is cruel. Also also, carriers are not your friend. You should know all of this by now.

It's not the first time we've seen a leak of what's purported to be Nokia's forthcomingLumia 929 smartphone, but this latest one from Windows Phone Central should clear up most lingering questions that anyone's had about the device (with a couple of notable exceptions). According to the site, the Verizon-bound phone is a "very quick," high-end device with a 5-inch 1080P AMOLED display, a 20-megapixel PureView and 32GB of internal storage -- not surprisingly, it's more or less a slightly bigger and refined version of the Lumia 928, with a metal band around the edge being another distinguishing feature. Unfortunately, the two details that remain unknown are two big ones: a price and a release date, although the latter is said to be sometime between Thanksgiving and the beginning of next year. You can find the full spec list (and more photos) at the source link below.

If you're a Comcast subscriber who wants to stream live TV from somewhere other than your couch, we have good news for you: The Xfinity TV Go app is available to download right now from both Google Play and iTunes. As long as you have a steady WiFi connection, and an Android device running Froyo or higher or an iOS gizmo with iOS 6 or better, you should be good to go. While this is cool and all, we were kind of hoping this update to the Xfinity TV Player app would've brought Chromecast support along with it.

Hate the stack of cards-style layout of your open tabs in Chrome for Android? It's time for you to switch to the browser's beta release, friend, because a better tab switcher awaits. François Beaufort, Googler and Chrome dev extraordinaire, has revealed that Android's most recent Chrome Beta update includes a more straightforward (and darker themed) tab switcher intended for use on all those memory-starved phonesthat'll soon be running KitKat. For folks who like what they see in the screenshots above, the new tab nav can be turned on by heading over tochrome://flags/#accessibility-tab-switcher in your beta browser's address bar.

During the iPhone 5s launch, Apple decided to show off its fancy new M7 co-processor with Nike+ Move. The free fitness app brings FuelBand-esque features to your smartphone, without the need to buy a $150 wearable. Of course, Nike was keen to stress that the app is only an "introductory experience," so if you still want to brag about how much of an athlete you are, you're still gonna wanna splash out on an SE. For everyone else? We'll probably stick with Nike+ Running.
