The LG G2 is the follow-up to LG's Optimus G Pro. It's also one of the few smartphones on the market right now powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 quad-core SoC. The G2 sports a 5.2-inch 1080p display, 2GB of RAM and up to 32GB of on board storage. However, the 2.26GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 chip on board also has Qualcomm's Adreno 330 GPU that even gives NVIDIA's Tegra 4 a run for its money in gaming and graphics performance. Though the G2 has a rather unorthodox volume rocker and power button assembly on the back of the phone, once you get used to the location, it's actually a pretty comfortable control system. What's pretty impressive though is the G2's performance combined with its 3000mAh battery that offers a solid balance of horsepower and battery life and rivals flagship phones like the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Apple's iPhone 5S.

When Microsoft said that it would release its Remote Desktop app for Android and iOS, it left many scratching their heads -- what, no Windows Phone version? There's no need to worry, though, as the company has just promised The Next Web that it's writing a client for its own mobile platform. Redmond can't yet say when it'll release the app, although we wouldn't expect a launch in the near future. Microsoft got a head start on developing for Android and iOS by acquiring technology from HLW Software, which produced Remote Desktop equivalents until this month; there's no such luxury for Windows Phone.

A quarter of Blackberry users are considering jumping ship to Microsoft following its acquisition of Nokia’s Mobile & Services arm.
The research was conducted by online survey company Usurv, which questioned 1,000 UK adults. The news comes as Blackberry announces plans to cut 4,500 jobs, plus it expects Q2 losses of around £624 million.
Technology industry analyst Jeff Kagan, of Kagan Research, told PCR: “Despite Blackberry’s sinking ship, it will be hard to predict where Blackberry users will go. The problem is that we don’t know what to expect from the deal at this point. Microsoft and Nokia have been working closely together over the last couple of years.
“It’s impossible to say whether Nokia will be a good fit [for Microsoft] or not. We won’t know until years pass.”
Kagan also commented on whether the deal would help Microsoft gain some ground in the smartphone market.
“Google and Apple own 90 per cent of the market. For Microsoft, it all depends on whether they can grow rapidly and start eating into Google and Apple’s lead. The marketplace would really like more choice than Android and iOS.”
Scott Hooton, Chief Commercial Officer of Phones 4u, said the deal “is potentially very positive for the consumer. It will bring more competition and innovation to the market.”

Our friends in the USA can now get their hands on the newly released Kindle Fire HDX Android Tablet, the new Kindle Fire HDX is aimed more at the premium end of the market with higher specs and better display that will put it in the iPad range, it has a powerful 2.2GHz quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM, the display has a resolution of 1920x1200, high pixel density (323 PPI), and perfect color accuracy (100% sRGB).

Connect for free to an Amazon expert 24x7, 365 days a year, personally i can see it getting abused or if touched at the wrong time could be a little embarassing especially if watching the wrong type of movie :P
The Cheapest option of the 7 Inch range weighs in at $229 with 16GB Storage, special offers and Wifi only, battery life goes from 12 hours for everyday usage to 18 hours if just reading with a front facing HD camera.

Google's core search-advertising business is slowing down (despite an uptick in revenue and earnings for the most recent quarter) and a new report suggests that advertising ROI is much higher on iOS than Android. In light of that, it's worth asking whether Google, having dominated much of the mobile-device market with Android, will ever get around to more aggressively monetizing its mobile operating system, and what that could mean to the manufacturers that have been loading the software for free onto their hardware. If Google started charging licensing fees to manufacturers, and attempted to clamp down so that Google Play served as the only hub for Android apps (something that would definitely put it on a collision course with Amazon, which boasts its own Android app store), would it be shooting itself in the foot? Or would the rest of the ecosystem respond in a muted way, considering the sheer size of Google's power and presence?"

GungHo's flagship title amasses 20 million users
GungHo’s mammoth mobile hit Puzzle & Dragons has been released on the UK App Store and Google Play.
The title is said to be generating as much as $4.9 million a day, mostly from Japan. As of this week, the title has also reached 20 million users.
Puzzle & Dragons has now made its way to the UK, and is featured on the front page of the App Store under ‘new games this week’. It is currently ranked 95th on the top free apps at the time of writing.
Earlier this week GungHo and parent company Softbank acquired a 51 per cent stake in Clash of Clans and Hay Day developer Supercell for $1.5 billion.
Supercell’s flagship titles were said to be generating $2.4 million a day for the company, success which has seen it valued at $3 billion.
GungHo and Supercell have worked together closely in the past on cross-promotion initiatives, and the two will likely now strengthen that partnership as Puzzle & Dragons makes its move into Europe.

Indie converting interactive TV titles for smartphones and tablets
Waterfront Entertainment has been signed by Sky Games to bring its interactive TV titles to iPhone, iPad and iPod.
The UK indie has launched the first of these games, Beehive Bedlam, on the iOS App Store this week. Based on the TV version previously only available to Sky customers, the mobile version has several new features, including global and friend leaderboards.
An Android version is currently in the works.
Waterfront has been working with Sky Games on its interactive TV offering for several years, having developed other titles such as Jumble Fever, Word Crunch and Beehive Bedlam 2.
"We are incredibly proud of the work that we have done in developing this game for mobile platforms and we hope to build on the existing Beehive Bedlam fanbase as it moves across to this new platform," said CEO Stephen Swan.
Sky Games development manager Rob Darvill added: "Beehive Bedlam is such a great fit for the mobile platform and I'm sure players will love having the game available to play on the go. The game looks great and we hope with its highly addictive nature, we can continue the success it has had on TV and online."

As the HMV app passes 5,000 downloads, HMV's CEO reveals the Cupertino company fears for the safety of iTunes.
UPDATE: HMV's MD of digital, James Coughlan, submitted the following comment to ME:
"We didn't expect to cause such a rustle, given that we've followed all of Apple's rules. We want to provide consumers a great service and we don't have any plans to discontinue operating the app."
Apple's iTunes Store has sold 25 billion songs and averages around 15,000 downloads a minute, which isn't a surprise giving how harshly Apple polices its operating systems, and restricts third parties.
However, the company looked to turn over a new leaf by granting HMV approval for a new music download store on iOS, which launched just yesterday.
ME spoke to the company's managing director, James Coughlan, about the new business direction and he admitted digital has always been difficult in the past and that a new strategy is in place to ensure a bright tech-based future.
But then Apple happened.
Seemingly unhappy by a potential iTunes threat, Hilco and HMV CEO Paul McGowan has revealed Apple has demanded the new HMV app be removed from the App Store as it passes 5,000 downloads. Comparatively the Android version is performing twice as well.

It appears Google has accidentally confirmed the Nexus 5’s name, appearance and price.
For a brief moment the tablet went live on the Nexus Category of Google Play – just long enough for a few screen grabs.
Before the post was reverted back to show the Nexus 4, it revealed that the starting price for the Nexus 5 will be $349.
Previous leaks have claimed the device will have a 1080p 4.95-inch display, 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 CPU, LTE and 32GB of storage. The image that accompanied the price on Google Play also confirmed previous leaks.
The device is expected to launch with the arrival of Android 4.4 KitKat, possibly before the end of the October.

October 18th, 2013, 20:43 Posted By: wraggster
Bitdefender has reported an increased number of Android apps that request unnecessary permissions and use them to monitor the location of children without their parents’ consent.
A recent study by the security software firm found that over 11 per cent of British children receive an Android device by their 7th birthday.
Bitdefender says this poses a risk of malware infections and SMS fraud targeting users who are still only learning to read.
Some free apps that target kids can track or access geo-locations without requesting information that only parents can provide, claims the firm.
“Why would an alphabet game require a child’s’ precise GPS and network location?” commented Catalin Cosoi, Chief Security Strategist at Bitdefender.
“Of course, it’s to make money by sending these details to aggressive third-party advertisers. Despite legislation and common sense, games for children still collect huge quantities of personal information about children without parental consent.”

Lenovo has apparently signed a non-disclosure agreement to examine BlackBerry’s finances.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Lenovo is keen to buy out all of BlackBerry in a bid to strengthen its position outside China.
Lenovo considering a takeover bid isn’t particularly surprising, as BlackBerry has experienced some financial troubles. In a bid to assure customers, BlackBerry recently took out full-page adverts in 30 newspapers around the globe, saying it was making the ‘difficult changes’ necessary to strengthen the company.
Other companies that have reportedly shown interest in putting bids in for BlackBerry include Google, Intel, LG and Samsung.
If Lenovo does put in an offer, the company would be up against a preliminary $4.7 billion bid fromBlackBerry’s biggest shareholder, Fairfax Financial.
