With Eddy Cue claiming this week that the firm has ‘the best product pipeline I’ve seen in my 25 years at Apple’, many industry watchers, journalists and tech fans are pondering just what these new products might be.
The Apple rumour mill pumps out product suggestions all year round, but since CEO Tim Cook confirmed the company will release ‘new categories this year’ back in February, the mill has been working overtime.
To be fair, most of them spawn from the firm’s numerous patents, implying that there’s a chance they will actually see the light of day.
There have been rumours about an iPen Stylus, wireless projector PC and – the most talked about one – a smartwatch called the ‘iWatch’.
With this year’s WWDC just around the corner, will we finally get a glimpse of Apple’s first wearable tech product? Probably not, seeing as it’s unlikely that any hardware will actually launch, but there may be some hints in its other announcements as to what we can expect later in the year.
Personally, I’d be surprised if the iWatch makes it to market. And if it does, I’d be even more surprised if it is actually just a smartwatch.
Why? It’s safe to say that Samsung has already stolen the smartwatch crown this year. A recent report on wearable technology, published by analyst Strategy Analytics, revealed that Samsung’s Gear devices now make up 70 per cent of the market.
Globally, Samsung has a bigger chunk out of smartphones than Apple, and although the rivals do love to try and outdo each other, it seems like Apple has already missed the boat on smartwatches, especially considering market tracker The NPD Group forecasts the wearable technology market will contract in 2016 as ‘hype for wearables wears off’.
With the recent acquisition of Beats, perhaps Apple is looking towards the audio market. Fingers crossed it will finally dump the iPhone’s tinny, white headphones when the new smartphone launches. I’m much more excited to hear about a speaker or home entertainment range rather than an official iOS smartwatch anyway.
Apple has always brought exciting products to market. Yes, there were internet connected mobile phones before the iPhone, but it’s impossible to deny ‘smartphones’ are defined by their iPhone-esque design.
It’s the same with the iPod and the iPad. Apple didn’t invent the MP3 player or the tablet, but it took these two things and transformed them into new products. New products that everyone wanted.
If Apple does release its own wearable tech this year, I can almost guarantee that it won't just be a ‘smartwatch’ that tells the time and lets you read your text messages.

Microsoft is planning to launch a smartwatch with cross-platform support for Apple and Android devices, reports have claimed.
Citing “multiple sources with knowledge of the company’s plans”, Forbes reported that the upcoming wearable device will be developed in collaboration with Microsoft’s Xbox Kinect division.
Technology derived from the Kinect’s optical tracking abilities will be integrated into the smartwatch in order to continually measure heart rate, the sources stated.
A variety of other health-tracking sensors would also be built into the wrist-mounted tech.
Similar optical-based technology was recently showcased by Samsung during the announcement of its next-gen Simband health tracker concept.
The Microsoft sources added that the device’s battery will last for two days, and will work with iOS and Android devices, in addition to Microsoft’s own Windows platform.
The smartwatch could be announced as soon as this summer, it was suggested.
“We have nothing to share,” a Microsoft representative responded, when asked about the rumoured smartwatch device.

PC Mag reports that an upcoming laptop from HP (one that was prematurely announced in April, and now official) has decent-to-good specs — under 4 pounds, battery life more than 8 hours, Tegra processor, and a 1928x1080 touch screen — but an unusual operating system, at least for a laptop. The SlateBook 14 will run Android, rather than Windows (or ChromeOS, for that matter), which helps keep it relatively cheap, at $400. According to the article, Android is "a lot cheaper for HP to implement in a laptop; ChromeOS, in contrast, comes with more stringent system requirements that would cost HP a bit more." Ars Technica's mention in Aprilincludes a screenshot taken from a video (note: video itself appears to be disabled) which shows the keyboard layout and which reveals some Android-specific changes. While many have been expecting Samsung to launch a mini version of the Galaxy S5 given the company's past habits, there have been questions about just what the smartphone would include. Would it be as hobbled as last year's S4 Mini? Maybe not. SamMobile has received photos of a purported Galaxy S5 Mini which hint that this smaller device could include the fingerprint and heart rate sensors of its full-size sibling, as well as the water-resistant shell. Not surprisingly, it would also share the Ultra Power Saving mode and other software tricks.

You no longer have to go searching app-by-app to find a buried file on your Windows Phone. Right on schedule, Microsoft has released its Files app; if you're running Windows Phone 8.1, you can now dig through folders to open and manipulate documents stored anywhere on your device. The interface won't compare to what you get on your PC, but it should be useful for offloading photos to an SD card or deleteing videos that are chewing up space. If you're already running Microsoft's latest and greatest mobile OS, you only have to swing by the Windows Phone Store to give the file browser a spin.

Apple's annual developer conference is well underway, and it just revealed what could be a seismic shift in the iOS world: third party apps will soon be able talk to each other. Historically, applications on iOS have lived in their own silos, without being able to share data and features, but that's set to change in iOS 8. Apple has given developers "Extensibility" tools -- a suite of APIs, if you want to get technical -- that they can wield to let their apps share everything from documents to translation services. A demo onstage showed a Bing extension for Safari doing inline translation of a Japanese website, and using Pinterest to share a photo from a website in just a few taps.

Guess what folks! With iOS 8 Touch ID will finally be useful for something besides unlocking your phone and buying apps. During the big keynote at WWDC 2014Apple announced the debut of an API for TouchID. That means other apps will be able to use the fingerprint scanner on your iPhone for authentication. Your actual fingerprint data is still stored securely on the hardware, and is never actually exposed to developers. That means you could quickly and easily order a bombproof case for your precious phone just by holding your thumb across the home button and never worry that a bug in the Amazon app could expose your fingerprint to nefarious actors. That should relive some of the pain associated with keeping all your various accounts secure -- which, as you've been told countless times, should all have unique passwords with a mixture of letters, numbers and special characters. Android users may have in-app access to LastPass, but simply scanning your thumbprint seems that much easier.

Siri is going to learn a few new tricks in iOS 8. As rumored, the voice assistant will now identify songs using Shazam; if you want to find out the name of a catchy track, you don't have to fire up a separate app. You'll also have the option of buying iTunes content. The speech recognition system is smarter, to boot -- it now shows what you're saying in real time, and you can start commands by speaking "hey, Siri" (much like Android KitKat's "OK Google") instead of holding down the home button. There's no mention of integration with third-party apps so far, but this is still a big step forward for iOS users who prefer voice dictation for all their tasks.

After years of waiting, Apple has finally brought support for third-party keyboards to iOS. Inside iOS 8, keyboards like Swiftkey and Swype, which have enjoyed huge usage on Android, will have system-wide access to all apps and services on your iPhone and iPad. Swiftkey has confirmed it's on board, but if you don't fancy that, you'll still able to enjoy Apple's new QuickType keyboard. The company says the improved keyboard learns from the way you type and text, offering a pick of suggestions for your next word based on the content of your message or the person you're conversing with. Planning a meal with your friend or loved one? The keyboard will auto-populate words like "dinner" or "eat" as you type. At launch, QuickType will support 14 regions including the US, UK, Canada and Australian English, Brazilian Portuguese, Chinese (that includes Hong Kong and Taiwan), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish and Thai.

It's been a long time coming, but Apple is finally adding support for widgets to iOS. On stage at its Worldwide Developers Conference, the company's senior VP of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi, revealed that devs can now start building widgets within the Notification Center on iOS 8. Unlike Google's take on widgets with Android, Apple's equivalent won't have them living on the home screen of your smartphone or tablet. Instead, iOS widgets will share the drop-down hub with app notifications. Still, there's a lot of potential here, as it's going to let those of you with an iOS device have more interactivity and quick access to your favorite applications. iOS 8 will be available this fall.

With the arrival of iOS 8, sharing amongst the family is about to get a lot easier. Once you set up all the members of your household (up to six total), you can automatically share photos, calendars, reminders, location and more. But that's not all. You know that catchy tune your son bought last week? Well, you'll be able spin it on your iPhone too. Sharing books, movies, apps and songs is also thrown in, and it can all be tied to a single credit card. Don't worry parents: you'll get a notification when your kids want to make a purchase.

Apple's iPhone is going from part-time health stat monitor to full-time mobile monitoring unit. HealthKit is a new service coming to the iPhone that tracks, records and analyzes your fitness level across a variety of metrics (sleep, movement, etc.). The way you use it on iOS 8 is through a new app called, simply, "Health." The initiative works with companies like Nike to bring all your health information into one place, under the Health app in the next update to iOS. It looks a lot like Passbook, using cards to identify various stats. Thusly, it enables customization of the stats you want tracked and how you want it presented.

We all knew it was coming, and now it's here. Apple CEO Tim Cook just put months of breathless speculation to rest by pulling back the curtain on iOS 8 during the company's WWDC 2014 keynote address in San Francisco. It doesn'tlook like the sort of quantum leap that iOS 7 was, but Apple's head honcho assures us that it interacts in some fantastic ways with the new version of OS X andthat it pairs great end user features with great developer features. Well, we'll be the judges of that. The big keynote just wrapped up -- here's what we know and what it means for you.
First things first. There's a lot to dig into, but you'll get iOS 8 as a free update sometime this fall for the iPhone 4s and newer, the 5th gen iPod touch, and the iPad 2 and newer. If you're a developer though, you'll be able to access the iOS 8 beta and SDK today.

Charts, graphs and stats: These are the things Apple keynotes are made of, and today's WWDC 2014 kickoff was no different. CEO Tim Cook took to the stage this morning at the Moscone Center in San Francisco armed with enough numerical ammunition to put your best boardroom PowerPoint Keynote to shame. Cook kicked things off boasting that over 40 million copies of OS X Mavericks have been installed and more than 50 percent of the install base is working on its latest OS. He went on to point out that while PC sales continued to slip (down 5 percent, according to Cook), Apple's computer sales are growing.

Samsung has been teasing a Tizen-based prototype phones for quite awhile now, but it has finally launched an honest-to-God Tizen smartphone: the Samsung Z. It's Samsung's attempt at a homegrown non-Android OS (first featured on itsGalaxy Gear smartwatch), though it developed the software jointly with Intel. The Samsung Z will feature a 720p HD, AMOLED display with a quad-core, 2.3GHz CPU (from Intel we presume, and possibly based on the new "Moorefield" architecture) with 2GB RAM, 16GB memory, LTE, an 8-megapixel camera, a heartrate sensor and fingerprint scanner. Expect to see the same design language featured in its Android-based Galaxy S devices, especially in the app drawer, notification tray and homescreen widgets. Samsung has also promised a "slim, angular design," and will launch it in black and gold on June 3rd at its Tizen developer conference in San Francisco. It'll be available in Russia and other markets shortly thereafter -- expect more details (like the price) soon.

Windows Phone users worried that Whatsapp's devs might be enjoying theirFacebook money too much to fix the app can now rest easy. Whatsapp is now back on the Windows Phone Store after a couple of weeks' absence, and it even comes with new features, including chat backgrounds, better privacy settings and the ability to customize notification tones. Its devs pulled the app from the store after a lot of users reported having serious issues with update 3 for Windows Phone 8 that permanently disabled notifications or caused persistent errors. Just as Microsoft's Windows Phone guy Joe Belfiore promised on Twitter, though, Whatsapp's back and ready for more cross-platform messaging.

The UK is the biggest market for digital games in Europe.
The latest figures from IHS Screen Digest reveal that the digital and online spend on games grew 16 per cent in the UK to £819m last year.
“This is driven by increased spending on freemium PC game experiences, PC game downloads and digital spend on games console content,” said IHS’s head of games Piers Harding-Rolls. “This growth allowed it to remain the biggest market for digital and online games across Europe.
“We expect digital games spend to increase strongly during the next few years as the UK’s traditionally strong console market makes the shift to digital consumption.”
Not all digital markets are in growth, however. In fact MMO games and portal-based PC casual games have declined, as they too are disrupted by new digital and mobile competitors.
Speaking of mobile, this sector reached a massive £430m during 2013, again driven by the freemium model.
“The UK is by some distance the leading mobile games market in Europe,” said Jack Kent, IHS’ Senior Principal Analyst, for Mobile. “Freemium games are driving UK mobile games market success, which is becoming increasingly concentrated at the top of the charts where titles such as King’s Candy
Crush Saga and Supercell’s Clash of Clans dominated the top chart positions throughout 2013.
“2013 also saw leading games publishers launch TV advertising campaigns, something that had been rare outside of Asia until then, underscoring the maturity of the mobile games market and cementing its place as a mass market activity.”

Marat Fayzullin has released another version of its GameBoy Advance emulator VGBA-Android.
Quote:
I have released the VGBA-Android 4.4, a new version of my GameBoy Advance emulator:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...d=com.fms.vgba
In this release, I am introducing the Box Art Downloader function, that searches and downloads cover art images of your games. You can either enable it permanently via the File Selector menu, or search for an individual game cover by selecting "Download Box Art" from the context menu. Keep in mind that not every cover can be found and sometimes the search may return a wrong image. To save network bandwidth, the Box Art Downloader only works over WiFi.
I have also been trying to make DropBox users´ life easier. With the new VGBA, you no longer need to enter the password every time you use DropBox. Also, as you finish playing a DropBox game, your gameplay state will be automatically uploaded back into the DropBox.
There were other changes as well. See below for details.
- Improved sound chip emulation, adding GBA-specific bits to channel #3.
- Added box art downloader that searches and downloads game box images.
- DropBox no longer requires login every time you open it.
- Gameplay saved back to DropBox after you are done playing.
- Added "Download Box Art" option to the File Selector menus.
- Added Gallery support for SD card folders on Android Kitkat.
- Added DropBox upload from SD card folders on Android Kitkat.
- Gallery now shows box art, as well as screenshots.
- Improved background image in portrait mode.
- Upgraded DropBox SDK to the latest version.

Apple CEO Tim Cook during his keynote said that around 130 million customers have purchased their first Apple device in the last twelve months. He states, 'Many of these customers were switchers from Android,' he said. 'They had bought an Android phone by mistake, and then had sought a better experience and a better life.' He added that almost half of those who have purchased an iPhone in China since December have switched from Android. However, it is worth noting that iPhones were not actually available in China until December, when pre-orders began, so it is unclear how much of the device's popularity there is simply down to the novelty factor, rather than a burning desire to flee from Android."

That's fine when you're at home, but do you really want to ask for a friend's hotspot password just to show vacation photos on their Apple TV? Mercifully, iOS 8 will let you skip that hassle. One of the many under the radar upgrades to the software is peer-to-peer AirPlay support -- you can now share content to an AirPlay-capable device as long as you can make a direct connection.

There's no shortage of 8-inch Windows tablets on the market right now, but Microsoft and its partners are pushing ahead with plans to shrink the OS even further. A Redmond executive at Computex has just shown off the Toshiba Encore 7: a 7-inch tablet running full Windows 8.1. If you're thinking that the Windows desktop will be mighty fiddly at this screen-size, then you're right -- it's only going to be useful as a Plan B when there's no other way to get into a legacy application, or when you're hooked up to a keyboard, mouse and bigger display. For regular use, you'd be reliant on the more thumb-friendly Metro UI and apps.

Apple has introduced support for headphones that connect via the Lightning port.
9to5Mac spotted that the firm has added a new specification in its Made-For-iPhone/iPad/iPod (MFi) programme which will allow vendors to manufacture headphones that connect to iOS devices using the devices’ Lightning connector – rather than the traditional 3.5mm audio jack.
The site added that it was likely the new audio technology would be introduced in a future software update.
The benefit of connecting via Lightning is that headphones could be capable of receiving higher quality audio – up to lossless stereo 48kHz digital audio.
The headphones would also support a microphone for audio input, as well as other new app-specific features.
Apple will reportedly allow two configurations for the headphones: ‘Standard Lightning Headphones’, which will require the use of a digital-to-analog converter supported by the Lightning Headphone Module, and ‘Advanced Lightning Headphones’, which will allow features such as active noise cancellation.
The move could mean big implications for vendors and users – Forbes suggests that the move to the Lightning port could mean a total abandonment of the 3.5mm audio jack, coaxing users into an Apple/Beats hardware ecosystem in order to access advanced features only available via the Lightning port.
The revelations about possible future iOS device audio technology come only a week after Apple purchased Beats for $3 billion.
Beats just released its first post-Apple acquisition advert, which focuses on the use of the firm’s headphones to listen to (and watch) the upcoming Fifa World Cup.

Apple’s iWatch will start production this month in time for a September release, an analyst has claimed.
Citing discussions he had with an anonymous ‘technology supply chain company’ source (via UberGizmo), Brian White of Cantor Fitzgerald said that production of initial components for the long-rumoured wearable device will begin later in June, before accelerating to meet the Q4 release date.
White described the iWatch as a ‘companion device’, stating that the smartwatch would require a connection to an iPhone to function.
He added that the release of the next generation of the iPhone – the iPhone 6 – would accompany the iWatch’s announcement.

If you've ever taken the bus or subway home after drinking too much at a party, you know how tough it can be to get off at the right stop -- you may fall asleep well before then. That shouldn't be an issue if you're using a recent Android phone, however. Android Police has noticed that the latest version of Google Now on Android lets you set an alarm that wakes you up shortly before a favorite destination comes up; you can safely catch some shut-eye knowing that you'll still be home on time. There are third-party apps that offer similar reminders, but it's good to have a built-in safety net when you're not entirely sober.

Last year, [Ben] found a good deal on iPad 3 LCD screens. He couldn’t resist buying a couple to play around with. It didn’t take him long to figure out that it’s actually quite simple to use these LCD screens with any computer. This is because the LCD panels have built-in Apple Display port interfaces. This means that you can add your own Display Port connector to the end of the LCD’s ribbon connector and just plug it into a computer. You’ll also need to hook up a back light driver, which [Ben] was able to find pre-made for around $35.
The hack doesn’t stop there, though. [Ben] wanted to have a nice, finished product. He laser cut an acrylic bezel for the LCD screen that was a perfect fit. He then milled out a space for the LCD to fit into. The acrylic was thick enough to accommodate the screen and all of the cables. To cover up the back, [Ben] chose to use the side panel of a PowerMac G5 computer case. He chose this mainly for aesthetics. He just couldn’t resist the nice brushed aluminum look with the giant Apple logo. It would be a perfect match to his Macbook.
Once the LCD panel was looking nice, [Ben] still needed a way to securely fasten it in the right place. He knew he’d want it next to his Macbook, so why not attach it directly to the Macbook? [Ben] got to work with his 3D printer and printed up some small plastic clips. The clips are glued to the iPad screen’s acrylic bezel and can be easily clipped on and off of the Macbook screen in seconds. This way his laptop is still portable, but he has the extra screen real estate when he needs it. [Ben] also printed up a plastic clip that turns the iPad’s USB power connector and the Display Port connector into one single connector. While this is obviously not required, it does effectively turn two separate plugs into one and makes the whole project that much more slick.

The title of [Nuclearrambo's] post says it all, “Android based wireless ECG monitoring(Temperature sensor and glucometer included).” Wow! What a project!
The project is built around the HC-06 bluetooth module and the Stellaris LaunchPad from TI, an inexpensive ARM developer kit. Building an ECG is a great way to learn about instrumentation amplifiers, a type of differential amplifier used for its extremely high common mode rejection ratio (CMRR). Please be sure to keep in mind that there are a myriad of safety issues and regulation concerns for medical device, and there is no doubt that an ECG is considered a medical device. Sadly, [Nuclearrambo's] post does not include all of the code and design files you need to build the system, which is understandable considering this is a medical device. That being said, he provides a lot of information about building high-quality ECG instrumentation and the web interface.
It would be great if [Nuclearrambo] could post the Android application code and Stellaris LaunchPad code. Even with these omissions, this post is still worth reading. Designing medical devices requires a lot of know-how, but who knows, maybe your next project can save your life!

Apple has said on more than one occasion that it pays its fair share of taxes, but it appears that the European Commission isn't so sure. Today, the regulator confirmed it's launched an investigation into whether the company is enjoying better tax deals than are warranted under EU law. It all centers around Apple's Irish subsidiaries, Apple Sales International and Apple Operations Europe, which may have benefited from pricing arrangements that allowed it to minimize the overall amount of tax it paid. At 12.5 percent, Ireland's business tax rate is lower than most EU member states, but Apple has previously been accused of securing rates as low as 2 percent.

With revamped policies in the iOS 8 App Store, Candy Crush and other apps that reward you for social sharing could soon be booted. Apps that provide users incentives for sharing on social networks aren't the only ones to violate Apple's latest terms and conditions for developers; those that provide in-game credit for watching videos are also under fire, along with apps that promote other apps.

Apple made a hullabaloo over iOS 8's user-accessible privacy controls during itsWWDC keynote, but it now appears that some of the biggest safeguards are under the hood. Security guru Frederic Jacobs has noticed that iOS 8 uses random network identifiers when scanning for WiFi access, and will only reveal a device's true ID when it connects. In other words, hotspot operators can't get your position simply because you're walking by with an iPhone in hand -- you have to sign in first.

It's been a long time coming, but Square Enix finally unveiled a renewed version of Final Fantasy 7 ... 's motorcycle mini-game from the RPG's Gold Saucer levels. Final Fantasy 7 G-Bike is a free, mobile "action chaser" inspired by the chase scene from the 1997 PSOne game, in which the hero Cloud Strife slashes at enemies with his enormous sword while ripping down a highway on his motorcycle. The obstacle-avoiding, sort-of-endless-runner will include undisclosed in-app purchases, though it does feature classic monsters, familiar techniques from Cloud's arsenal, boss battles and a weapon customization system.
Those hoping for a full mobile version of the cherished RPG, outside of its availability as a PSOne Classic on Vita, may recall producer Takashi Tokita's assertion in October that the game is years away. Final Fantasy 7 was re-released for PC in August 2012, followed by Steam in July 2013. Final Fantasy 7 G-Bike is in development for iOS and Android.

A developer has demonstrated an unannounced feature in Apple’s iOS 8 software: split-screen multitasking.
Steve Troughton Smith published a video (see below) showing the mode in a developer iOS 8 simulator, with the iOS Safari app resized to fill different areas of the screen.
The feature isn’t currently announced for iOS 8, which is set for public release in autumn.
If included with iOS 8, the multitasking could combat one of the features of Microsoft’s Windows 8 tablet operating system, which allows users to multitask on their tablet by snapping different applications to the edge of the screen.
The discovery joins rumours that Apple will launch a next-generation iPad Air model later this year.
Korean news site ETNews reported that iPad Air 2 components are to enter production this month, according to supply chain sources.
Among the rumoured upgrades to the tablet is the next iteration of Apple’s A-series processors – the A8 – and an eight-megapixel camera.
The Air 2’s 9.7-inch Retina display is expected to retain the original Air’s form factor and 2048x1536 resolution.

Mozilla has announced that it will start selling the super-cheap smartphone within the next few months.
The phone will run Mozilla’s HTML5 web-based Firefox operating system and will be powered by chips from Chinese company Spreadtrum.
Launching in India and Indonesia, the device will cost just $25 (£15).
Mozilla has already partnered with mobile manufacturers ZTE and Alcatel to sell its Firefox-powered phones in Europe and other parts on the world. It has now partnered with two Indian firms, Intex and Spice, to develop the new device.
Gong Li, Mozilla COO, told WSJ that the firm is expecting Firefox-powered smartphone shipments to exceed 10 million units in the next 12 months.
The OS currently runs on more than a million smartphones.
The firm unveiled its plans for a cheap smartphone at this year’s Mobile World Congress, where it also detailed host of device and partnerships.

The New York Times, in an article about Apple CEO Tim Cook, focuses in large part on the ways in which Cook is not Jobs. He's less volatile, for one thing, whether you think that means he's less passionate or just more circumspect. A small slice:Lower-level employees praise Mr. Cook’s approachability and intellect. But some say he is less hands-on in developing products than his predecessor. They point to the development of the so-called iWatch — the “smartwatch” that Apple observers are eagerly awaiting as the next world-beating gadget. Mr. Cook is less involved in the minutiae of product engineering for the watch, and has instead delegated those duties to members of his executive cabinet, including Mr. Ive, according to people involved in the project, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to press. Apple declined to comment on the watch project. ... Mr. Cook has also looked outside of Apple for experienced talent. He has hired executives from multiple industries, including Angela Ahrendts, the former head of Burberry, to oversee the physical and online stores, and Paul Deneve, the former Yves Saint Laurent chief executive, to take on special projects. He also hired Kevin Lynch, the former chief technology officer of Adobe, and Michael O’Reilly, former medical officer of the Masimo Corporation, which makes health monitoring devices. Not to mention the music men of Beats.

Samsung unveiled its latest flagship tablet, the Galaxy Tab S, at an event in New York City tonight, and the new device is thin, lightweight, and sports a killer Super AMOLED display. Samsung boasts that the Galaxy Tab S's 2560x1600 display has 73% better color reproduction than conventional LCD displays and can match colors up to 94% of "nature's true palette" with deeper blacks and a 100,000:1 contrast ratio. The 10.5-inch device weighs just 467g and measures a mere 6.6mm in thickness (and there's an 8.4-inch version, too). Under the hood, the Galaxy Tab S features Android KitKat 4.4, 3GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of storage with a microSD slot that supports up to 128GB. The front camera is 2.1MP and the rear 8MP camera has an LED flash. No word on the exact processor on board just yet, other than it's a quad-core SoC. It's likely a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 though an Exynos variant or perhaps even Tegra 4 wouldn't be beyond the realm of possibility.

Rovio has announced Angry Birds Transformers for mobile devices.
While the franchise has recently spawned karting and RPG spin-offs, Angry Birds Transformers is expected but not confirmed to offer more traditional bird-flinging gameplay.
Users will be able to scan characters directly into the game using a new line of collectable Telepods figures from Hasbro.
Over one million Telepods were sold in the first month after they debuted alongside Angry Birds Star Wars 2 last October.
"We're really excited to combine the iconic Transformers universe with the quirky world of Angry Birds" said Rovio chief marketing officer Blanca Juti. "This mash-up is going to appeal to those who grew up with the brand in the 80s, as well as fans of the brand today."
Hasbro chief marketing officer John Frascotti added: "We collaborated with Rovio to create opportunities for kids and families to experience Autobirds and Deceptihogs across multiple formats and entertainment platforms, for a completely immersive branded experience."
