The official N-Gage blog has confirmed that the Next Gen Platform now won't go live until December. It's also hinted that more games may be added to the launch lineup before the launch.
On the face of it this sounds like they're missing the Xmas season, but that's not actually the case.
The compatible phones announced so far (the N73, N81, N81 8GB, N93, N93i, N95 and N95 8GB) have already sold tens of millions in total, and they're already available in the shops for anyone who wants to buy them as an Xmas present.
As for the games, they're all sold as cheap (6 to 10 euros) downloads so they wouldn't have been bought as presents anyway.

This is a testing release that tests MPD with ZeroLauncher. It installs the latest svn'd alpha build of ZeroLauncher with modified mpd and mpdc modules (modified 0.4 versions with mpd-ke), as well as updated SVN schemes and fonts, a freshly recompiled kernel (should be the same though) and the stable, official loader 2.5r5 (I'll compile my own later).
Install by running the "ZeroSlackr-Installer-ZL+MPD-Test-Release.bat" batch file. It should install Loader2 and extract the ZeroSlackr system. If you've installed the Sneak Peak release of ZeroSlackr, please disable the old SlackrPacks by remove the old "Packs" folder (or just renaming it to something else). Due to many the changes I've made to ZeroLauncher, compatibility with the Sneak Peak release packs is probably broken.
After you've installed this, copy your song files directly to the "Music" folder and reboot into iPodLinux, ZeroLauncher. On the first startup, you will get an "Unable to connect to MPD" error. This is because I disabled MPD by default. Toggle the "Enable MPD" setting, then quit ZeroLauncher or reboot. The second time around, MPD will be enabled but database updating will be disabled. Toggle the "MPD Update" setting, then quit ZeroLauncher or reboot your iPod. This time around, during startup MPD should update its database (please be patient during the updating "white screen" step). After the database successfully updates, I recommend you reboot your iPod one last time for memory sake.
Please keep in mind that this is just a "working" test release. I am aware that, due to memory issues, ZeroLauncher may freeze at times. Also, due to MPD's memory-hogging-ness, if you enable MPD, things will be pretty slow and you will be unable to launch anything else (but you will get pretty smooth playback suppose you don't do crazy things). I will try to find a work-around for this but I may not be able to.
Otherwise, please report any issues/success you have. If you're willing, try tweaking with some of the MPD configurations and post if you find config changes that'll improve playback. Keep in mind that this is just a test release. Unless there's anything major, I won't update this until the final ZeroSlackr beta release

When we first got our hands on the UK iPhone back in September, it was already running the 1.1.1 firmware. The same firmware which helpfully bricked a number of hacked iPhones Stateside upon later release. Now T3 is claiming that the UK iPhone -- set for release on November 9th -- is kicking 1.1.2 under the glass. Besides support for French and German keyboard layouts and characters, the other notable change is the shuttering of the TIFF exploit used to jailbreak and then install (and unlock) third party applications on the 1.1.1 iPhone and iPod touch. With the possibility that Apple might release 1.1.2 globally with the UK launch on Friday, consider yourselves warned. It's not like there's a lot of incentive for you to update anyway (remember, it's optional) what with the latest jailbreak simultaneously exploiting and then plugging the TIFF exploit to keep your browsing safe. For whatever it's worth, the February SDK isn't too far away -- perhaps you should wait 'till then to get right with The Steve.

News of a Project announcement from our very own ZodTTD:
I recently got an iTouch to dev on. I have my toolchain up and going and am working on a few projects for this very powerful handheld.
iPhone software can be used on the iTouch and vise versa. Not only does this iTouch handheld support a really nice hi-res touchscreen, but also OpenGLES video hardware acceleration, but also a powerful 533MHz ARM11 CPU based on the SAMSUNG S3C6400 SoC!
So what projects do I have lined up for these two handhelds? In order of highest priority:
- GBA via Exophase's gpSP project
- PSX via my psx4all project
- OpenTTD via OpenTTD.org project
If GBA goes well, and so far it is, then I will have high hopes for Playstation emulation on the iPhone. Controls aside. ;P
More updates on this as things progress!

News from Zodttd
Well it took a few days of figuring out how to get the Toolchain 0.30 for iPhone compiled correctly. I finally got that done about 12 hours ago. Within the past few hours I've got gpSP compiled for the iPhone & iTouch. And best of all:
I GOT HOMEBREW / GAMES RUNNING ON THE iPHONE & iTOUCH!
Now the catch is, I still have to implement controls for this port before anything is playable of course. I landed up just skipping the GUI for the file selector and hardcoding a rom path. That will change immediately once I get controls implemented. After that the next step will be sound.
Also keep in mind I am currently using the interpreter for this initial build. I will switch over to the ARM dynarec very shortly.
A huge thanks goes to Exophase for creating his very well made GBA emulator, gpSP. Without it, GBA on handhelds such as this wouldn't be worth it.
Expect a release of gpSP for the iPhone & iTouch shortly, as in, within day(s). In the meantime, what should this project be called? It must begin with "gpSP".

My W.I.P. port of the amazing GBA emulator gpSP (originally made by Exophase), has been given a name. At least until something better comes up, it is being called gpSPhone.
I have got input and the dynarec working. I am cleaning up the controls and making sure it runs ok.

VNsea is a graphical VNC client for both the iPhone and the iPod touch based on Chicken of the VNC for Mac OS X.
Please note that server passwords are currently stored in plaintext in the preferences file and shown unprotected on screen. This will be fixed as soon as the client is mostly functional. Right now, functionality takes precedence over local security.
Changes:
Numerous bug fixes and enhancements, including adding keyboard, right mouse, landscape, and zooming support. Many thanks to new project member Glenn Kreisel for all his hard work in this release!
Main screen reorganised a little.
There is a new preferences screen, currently a little empty. In future versions many more preferences will be added.
A controls bar has been added to the remote screen display. It has buttons for toggling the on-screen keyboard, modifier keys, right mouse, and zooming settings. The "X" button closes the connection. Tapping the system status bar will hide and show the controls bar.
Issue 5 : No Keyboard access
Issue 9 : Need to right-click
Issue 11 : Need option to disconnect from server
Issue 13 : Landscape support
Issue 15 : Use placeholder values for all server info fields instead of default values
Issue 16 : Screen Scaling would also be handy
Issue 17 : Validate server info fields when saving
Issue 26 : Server password field is not bulleted out
Issue 27 : Passwords are stored in plaintext in preferences
Issue 35 : Inability to cusomize port number
Issue 41 : No warning when deleting a server
Issue 50 : Show an optional target mark on the "click" hot spot
Issue 51 : Ask for password before connecting if password left empty in server settings
Issue 52 : Use a better keyboard layout for editing server settings
Issue 63 : weird hang when deleting lines from gvim
Issue 64 : Click "New Server" then Cancel..Leaves "new server" entry in server list
Issue 65 : Sort list of Servers

I solved some major issues that were bogging down the gpSPhone GBA emulator for iPhone and iTouch. I am ready for someone to make a nice video of gpSPhone in action. If you have an iPhone and/or iTouch and want to make a video today, please contact me here with your MSN/Yahoo messenger: http://zodttd.com/index.php?serendipity[subpage]=Contact%20ZodTTD
I will be picking two people to make videos for it running on the iPhone and iTouch. Keep in mind it's not skinned, the controls are flakey, and there's no sound output (though sound IS emulated currently). So it's still a WIP. But it the video will give others a good idea of whats to come.
So if you can work fast and write me quickly and we'll get it up on YouTube.
Next will come beta testing!

To give people a taste of what's to come with gpSPhone, here's a video made by " atticus182 " of it in action. More video's will be posted to this entry as they come in. Lots of work still needs to be done in terms of GUI & controls. But once that's done only a few minor fixes and it's ready.

Alongside the iPhone 1.1.2 update, Apple has also released an iPod Touch 1.1.2 firmware update which is available for some through iTunes. For those who are impatient, a direct download is also available:
iPod1,1_1.1.2_3B48b_Restore.ipsw
Early reports indicate that the new iPod Touch update provides "Add Event" functionality to the iPod Touch, confirming an email exchange from Steve Jobs who promised that edit and add calendar events would be coming in a future software update. The lack of calendar editing had been described as a "bug" by Jobs.
While the iPod Touch 1.1.2 and iPhone 1.1.2 updates are likely very similar, there may be device specific issues. Please keep comments on topic in their respective threads.

Congratulations to all the iPhone/iPod team, including Pumpkin, Edgan, Dinopio, Drudge, Kroo, and all the rest. Details will be forthcoming as the method gets debugged and safety-features put in-place.

Looks like Apple just published firmware v1.1.2 for the iPhone; hit the download link to grab it yourself because iTunes hasn't yet gotten wise to the fact that it's out. Details to follow, but don't expect jailbreak or the unactivated Safari workaround hack to still be functional, ok? (... aaaand we're watching our download speed drop as our readers are grabbing the file. Rockin'.) Update: TIFF jailbreak exploit is dead. Sorry people. More below.
Update: Ok, We're "sacrificing" an iPhone for you people. We'll let you know what we find.
Extracting software... restarting... iTunes successfully upgraded to 1.1.2.
The "slide for emergency" slider flashed through different languages while it was waiting to be plugged in again.
It's activated, pulled the backup data, and restarted -- success! Officially on 1.1.2.
Testing jailbreakme.com... looks like they broke jailbreak! Yep, it's broken alright.
Not really finding any new features -- certainly no new icons, no voice memos, nothing obvious about disk mode. Anyone else finding anything?
Looks like international keyboards are finally enabled! Score one for everyone overseas who can't use their now-relocked iPhone.
A few reports are coming in that their iPhone is "much faster now" (not that we remember ours being slow at all before). Maybe Apple made some performance tweaks this update.
Can anyone confirm whether TurboSIM is working with this update?

I just tool a 1.1.2 iPhone and decided to downgrade it to 1.1.1.
From my testing now 1.0.2 downgrade is necessary.
Prerequisite:
- you need to have the firmware 1.1.1 ipsw file in your computer
NOTE: This guide does not guarantee it will work 100%. Also errors 1015 is expected at the end of the process. Continue reading to understand.
1. Download the 1.1.1 ipsw firmware file from Apple. If the downloaded file has the extension ".zip", please remove it and modify it to end up with the following filename: iPhone1,1_1.0.2_1C28_Restore.ipsw
2. Reboot your iPhone holding the top (power) and home buttons BUT release the top button 10 seconds into it (right after the screen goes dark) and continue to hold the home button until iTunes detects the phone in recovery mode. The iPhone screen will appear to be off, but start iTunes if not started yet .
3. Restore your iPhone by pressing and holding the ‘Shift’ key on windows or ‘option’ key on Mac, then click ‘restore’ to select the 1.1.1 firmware file you downloaded earlier. The restore should go through and errors at the end with error 1015. However you will notice that the iphone is in DFU mode with the connect to itunes screen from 1.1.1.
In order to kick the phone out of that mode I just had to launch iNdependence version 1.2.5 and wait a minute or so.
Now you are ready to follow the easy steps at the following LINK in order to reactivate the phone:
http://iphoneunlocked.mostofmymac.co...tructions.html
PS: And for those who wonder about IPSF, I tried to run it on my downgraded iPhone and it could not unlock the phone. It errors with "Unable to download firmware". We should expect and update from IPSF shortly!
I hope this helps.

Nervegas has released a new version of his Nes Emulator for the iPhone:
NES.app lets you play Nintendo games on your iPhone. It is a fully functional, feature-rich Nintendo emulator.
NES.app uses an emulator core we call NESCore, which we've forked from pNESx and InfoNES and re-engineered as a highly-portable and high-performance Nintendo emulator core.
In order to use NES.app, you will need ROM images of Nintendo games. ROM images are files containing the dumped instruction code from a physical cartridge. In many cases, you are legally entitled to posess a ROM imageof any game that you presently own. ROM images for NES are widely available online, or with the appropriate hardware, you can dump them yourself directly from the cartridge.
Features
Multitouch: Use the directional pad + A + B, or other combinations
Landscape Mode: Turn the iPhone counter-clockwise to play in landscape mode
Zapper Tap: Tap objects on the screen to shoot them
Full Screen: Enlarge your NES picture to the max possible
Save State: Save an instant snapshot of your game and come back to it later
Game Genie: Use Game Genie cheat codes
... and many more
NES.app is not iPhoneNES!
NES.app started as a fork of iPhoneNES v0.01, but has been completely rewritten to run very fast, and with many additional features including sound, multitouch support, full-screen, landscape mode, game genie codes, saved games and much more. It now contains zero code from the original iPhoneNES project.
As of recent, stepwhite re-released a much older version of NES.app as iPhoneNES v0.31. We have no idea why, but please be aware that NES.app is in no way affiliated with the iPhoneNES project (which only ever released v0.01 officially). We recommend using the latest version of NES.app instead, which is available below.
1.12.0 [jonz] Added case-insensitive sort of files, bookmarks, and saved games
[jonz] Added support for left-handed landscape mode (turn clockwise)

News from FrankW
Hi all,
I would let you know that the new version of the GAPI package supports now also the Gizmondo.
This GAPI- DLL hase some nice features:
Real and fast hardware access to the display framebuffer.
Most or all of the available GAPI- GX.DLL's offers only a slow GAPI emulation.
The display contents can be rotated in 90°steps.
With this rotate function you can use 240x320 PocketPC portrait applications like k-Rally on the 320x240 landscape display of the gizmondo.
PocketPC- keyboard mapping.
Now you can control PocketPC applications with the the buttons of the Gizmondo.
Individual configurable settings for GAPI applications.
By moving the config file "GX_HPC.ini" into the GAPI application directory.
I suggest to copy the GX.DLL and the GX_HPC.ini into the GAPI applications directories on the SD- card.
GAPI for HPC's is available for free from: http://www.wincesoft.de

Exradia has launched a range of replacement batteries for popular models of mobile phones which incorporate its special magic circuit to interfere with the bad RF coming from your handset, but iPhone users, with their non-replaceable battery, will just have to suffer. According to the release Exradia are "...surprised Apple has chosen to ignore this potential health issue", though the company admits there's no evidence that mobile phones cause problems that's no reason not to make a buck preventing those very problems.

Jailbreaking iPhones and iTouchs (Ipod Touch) means homebrew enabling it or simply putting it, hacking. Here youll find a step by step producedure about how to hack your Apple Touch Screen Products. I take no repsonsablitly for anything thats happens.

0*) This step is opptional, but highly recomened, restore you ipod before your jailbreak it.
1) Start by turning it on and load up safari

6) Wait for your iPhone or iTouch to restart itselfs.
7) Once restarted you will see a new app called installer. This is where you will download new apps and games.
Note: If this doesnt work, try it again. sometimes it wont work the first time.
Important Steps in Installer
1)if you get a promet stating to update the installer, click Update Now.
2)go to the springboard(main ipod screen with icons) and restart installer
3)then go to install under the bottom selections in installer.

How To Install Roms Onto Ipod Using Windows
1)Download Roms
2)Open WinSCP
3)get ipods i.p. adress and uses that as the server name
4)the login name is 'root' and the password is 'alpine' (without the '')

more details about installing coming soon due to inconvinces i have with school lol.
Can This Brick Your Ipod?
No, it shouldnt, but if it does, your are responsable and no one else.
Does This Void Your Warrenty?
Ovoiusly yes, but by restoring your ipod threw itunes, no man nor computer can tell the diffrence of the prevously restored ipod and a out-of-the-box ipod.

Ah hell, we'll run down the rumored specs for you one more time: quad-band GSM, 2100MHz HSDPA for Europe, WiFi, GPS, FM Tuner, Bluetooth, 3.5-mm headphone jack, Carl Zeiss lens with Xenon flash, automatic rotating 2.4-inch QVGA display, and microSD expansion. What we don't know is the price and availability, but we'll get that tomorrow.

Are you a "style-conscious consumer?" Yeah, then the 3G Nokia 8800 Arte and Sapphire Arte are for you toots. Just as long as you've got a €1,000 pre-tax bounty saved up for the Arte or €1,150 for the Sapphire Arte when they ship in Q4 2007 and Q1 2008, respectively. For that you get a 2.0-inch QVGA OLED display, 3.2 megapixel camera, 1GB of built-in memory, an anti-fingerprint coating on the metal and glass, and a leather pouch with linen-lining to keep things tidy. A turn-to-mute feature allows owners to quiet their phone by simply turning it over -- the phone equivalent of a huffy, raised-palm pirouette. It also ships with a Nokia BH-803 noise-cancelling Bluetooth headset which should help to minimize the "new money" whispers from behind your back.

It's already been available -- and hacked -- for a a few days now, but iPhone firmware 1.1.2 has finally reached iTunes, the natural home of all things iPhone. We honestly haven't noticed much more new since we started poking around -- the .m4r ringtone hack seems to be back, and custom ringtones are now broken out in their own list -- but we know you can't resist the siren call of the latest version number. Go on, you'll be fine -- and it's not like getting back to 1.1.1 is any great feat.

Artist Billy Chasen took an iPod, blew it apart, and encased it in resin. Big deal, right? Well, the cool thing about this is that the iPod still works. Yeah, despite being blown up and frozen in resin, he's still able to play music off of it. This would be the best desk stereo ever just hook it up to speakers, get a remote control working on it, and you've got one distinctive piece of functional art on your desk. Awesome.

gpSPhone is a GBA emulator based ZodTTD's port of gpSP to the GP2X. gpSP is a great GBA emulator written by the talented Exophase. ZodTTD ported it to the GP2X, and added an (iPhone/iTouch compatible) dynarec. By using this coding technique, fullspeed performance of GBA is obtained on the iPhone/iTouch.
Release notes:Games should run much faster/smoother due to my improvements to the dynarec, and savestates have been introduced. You can now save your progress at any point and resume it later. Due to performance increases and some tweaking of the buffer sizes, the sound has got a bit better. Sound still has syncing issues. Frameskip is selectable as 1-4 and Auto-frameskip.
Quick answers to questions of people having installation issues:
gba_bios.bin IS required at /Applications/gpSPhone.app/gba_bios.bin
The file "gpSPhone" must have permissions set to 755 or 777 (eXecutable permissions).
Installation instructions are included in the zip as readme_gpSPhone.txt
Please donate if you like this software and wish for it to improve.
Thanks everyone for your support!
Changes:
- Improved sound quality & buffering
- Improved dynarec performance
- Added support for savestates
- Better frameskip support.
Thanks to ZodTTD himself for the news!

As something of a dabbler in PyS60, Nokia's open source port of the Python programming language to S60, I was excited to see the arrival of a proper book on the subject. "Mobile Python" takes a tutorial approach, leading you from the ubiquitous 'Hello World' right through to phone-controlled robotics and multi-player online games. It's a heady and sometimes uneven ride, but Mobile Python does manage to get across a lot of information while simultaneously firing the imagination of anyone who ever wanted to write an application for their S60 phone.
"Juergen Scheible, one of the authors of Mobile Python, new from Wiley, has been a leading evangelist for PyS60 since its inception, so he makes the natural lynchpin here. Ville Tuulos is a new name to me, but there are plenty of others from the Python and Symbian worlds who also seem to have made contributions here.
Mobile Python's subtitle is 'Rapid Prototyping of Applications on the Mobile Platform', but as with the earlier book on OPL, which had a similar title, a substantial number of Python programs will end up being THE applications, not just prototypes. It's important to get your head around the sheer power of PyS60 - about 20% through the book, there's a ten line code example that's a fully working SMS Inbox search tool. In ten lines! The richness of the Python language and the PyS60 modules thus make writing a book teaching it all something of a challenge."

Ojom announce release of Maya, its first game specifically designed for the iPhone. The game functions as a puzzle in which players have to flip, twist and turn triangle-shaped pieces in order to progress through levels and find the Maya temple deep within the jungle. Each puzzle includes a cluster of triangles with a different color in each corner, challenging players to solve by puzzle by flipping or rotating the triangles to scheme a pattern where all corresponding colors are connected.
A deluxe edition of the game was released in conjunction with the iPhone European launch last week via Jamster and Jamba while the standard edition is available for free.

GPRS sucks... EDGE is only marginally better. The best thing is to jack in to a WiFi hotspot and leech their bandwidth.
JiWire lists loads of free WiFi hotspots where you live. So far I have only tested UK and USA but seems great.
It is free to use, no need to register and best of all - they have an optimised version for iPhone!

If you have ringtones in your iPhone that were not inserted by iTunes, very likely they will vanish every time you perform any kind os iTunes sync.
When a sync is performed, iTunes recreates the ringtone configuration file "/private/var/root/Media/iTunes_Control/iTunes/Ringtones.plist" and removes all ringtones entries not "managed" by iTunes.
Fortunately the actual ringtone (xxxx.m4a) files located in "/private/var/root/Media/iTunes_Control/Ringtones" are not erased.
There are file system tricks using symbolic links that may help avoid the erasure of Ringtones.plist but I decided to take another approach to address the problem.
fixringt was written to recreate the ringtone configuration file after a sync.
fixringt is also handy when new ringtones are added to "/private/var/root/Media/iTunes_Control/Ringtones".
It not only creates the configuration file but also creates a xxxx.m4r file for every xxxx.m4a file found, and adujsts the ringtone filename when required.
When fixringt creates the ringtone configuration file, it reads the song/ringtone name from the title field in the .m4a or .m4r file.
FixRingTone is a GUI application to prevent/fix those problems. http://web.newsguy.com/marcio/iphone/fixringtone/

iDemocracy is the very first iPhone 1.1.1 jailbreak and third-party app installation solution for the Windows platform, written by Drakenza which is (at least partially) automated, and has a GUI interface. It is currently supported on Windows XP/Vista and requires only iTunes, an iPhone, and the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0.
iDemocracy 2 brings all kinds of new features like free ringtones on firmwares 1.1.1 and 1.1.2, as well as File Browsing (using Manzana) and all kinds of other wonderful things.
iDemocracy NOW SUPPORTS FW 1.1.2. However, it cannot unlock OTB 1.1.2 iPhones running bootloader 4.06 (yet). There will be a release 2.1 shortly after the release on the 16th which will add this functionality as soon as possible.

ScummVM is now available for your iPhone, using installer.app. Note that this port is currently under development, and may not work correctly. Or at all.
ScummVM is a program which allows you to run certain classic graphical point-and-click adventure games, provided you already have their data files. The clever part about this: ScummVM just replaces the executables shipped with the games, allowing you to play them on systems for which they were never designed!
Some of the adventures ScummVM supports include Adventure Soft's Simon the Sorcerer 1 and 2; Revolution's Beneath A Steel Sky, Broken Sword 1 and Broken Sword 2; Flight of the Amazon Queen; Wyrmkeep's Inherit the Earth; Coktel Vision's Gobliiins; Westwood Studios' The Legend of Kyrandia and games based on LucasArts' SCUMM (Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion) system such as Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Sam and Max and more. You can find a thorough list with details on which games are supported and how well on the compatibility page. ScummVM is continually improving, so check back often.

News/release for Ipod from Yurgle:
http://ipodlinux.org/Special:Module/mikmodule
I just cut a release of MikModule 1.4, downloadable from the link above.
It's got a lot of usability fixes and a bunch of new features. For example;
Playlists that it finds at startup are added to the Music menu. Playlists can be symlinks to directories, or flat text files containing absolute or relative pathnames to music modules.
Heuristics added for certain mods - ie, disable panning
better error reporting - when files fail, it says which file failed. It also times out so it's not sitting there waiting for your input.
When more than 8 consecutive errors are encountered in a playlist, it exits out. (just in case you have a completely incorrect playlist)
New visualizers: brightbars, voice dots, with settings to adjust "gain", and color.
Podzilla header bar will cycle through various information about the song.
and lots of other little things.
For what it's worth, it will reliably play about 25-30 voices simultaneously on a Nano. It does play a 53 voice song (7.5 megs) ("littleli.it") mostly well, except for when all 53 voices are in use, then it stutters. It also takes about 45 seconds to decrunch and open. heh.
Enjoy![/list]

Marat Fayzullin posted this news:
I have now completed porting my emulators to UIQ with the release of MasterGear 2.5 for UIQ3-based smartphones fromSony Ericsson and Motorola.
You can download MasterGear for UIQ from
http://fms.komkon.org/EmuSymbian/
I have also updated MasterGear for S60-based phones (Nokia and Samsung) to version 2.5.3. MasterGear will run software written for SEGA MasterSystem, GameGear, SG1000, SC3000, and SF7000 consoles.
I still need beta testers for the UIQ3-based stuff. If you have a UIQ3 phone and would like to test my emulators, please, let me know by email or here:
http://groups.google.com/group/emul8/
With all the initial UIQ releases out of the way, I am now going to work on improving both S60 and UIQ emulators. Namely, the UIQ versions still have problems with audio and controls on some phones. These problems will be fixed shortly. Watch this space.

VNsea is a graphical VNC client for both the iPhone and the iPod touch based on Chicken of the VNC for Mac OS X. Version 0.6 is on the site now. This release should be quite a bit more stable than the last couple. Plus, it has some nice new features, including the long-awaited ctrl-alt-del command!
Changes:
A new helper functions window that is shown with the "More" button. The fit to screen controls have been moved here.
A new preference to keep open connections alive when the home button is pressed has been added. A check mark is visible on the VNsea icon in SpringBoard when there is an active connection.
Reorganised the main server list screen a little.
A workaround has been added for very large displays or multiple monitor systems. It is imperfect, in that it cuts the display off, but the underlying problem is with the OS so not a whole lot can be done.
Issue 6 Status display would be very handy
Issue 7 Garbled screen with multiple monitors or large display
Issue 8 Unable to send ctrl +alt +delete command
Issue 69 Connection to host computer should stay open if you press the home button
Issue 80 "New" button on Nav bar does not conform..
Issue 83 Occassional crash when connected for a while
Issue 86 Crashing using EDGE
Issue 100 Please add Tab key
Issue 101 No esc

MNPlight aims at getting rid of the need for a computer with iTunes. It runs on your iPhone, and is able to modify the iPhone calendar, address book and iPod databases.
MNPlight can be of particular interest for Linux users who don't have iTunes, but it can also be used by other users when they want to update their iPhone data when they are away from their iTunes computer.
If you keep using iTunes, you may experiment problems with the Calendar and the Address Book since modifications done on your iPhone won't be seen by iTunes.
MNPlight can now read Web Radios and a PXL package is available! http://pauillac.inria.fr/~lefessan/src/isync/

Now that the Zune has upped the ante by including WiFi syncing out of the box, it looks like owners of other devices are starting to rig up solutions of their own -- and the iPhone setup developed by eddanx seems to come closest to the ease of the Zune. The system relies on the WinAmp plugin ml_ipod, which supports syncing to shared folders, and requires a jailbroken iPhone and a little SSH / SFTP softshoe. Of course, by giving up iTunes, you give up contact, calendar, movie, and phone syncing as well, but who cares -- you're wireless now, baby. Check the read link for the full instructions.
PS: We'd imagine this would also work on an iPod touch -- anyone care to try?

Not that it took a lot of convincing for us or anything, but it turns out the audio input pins on the iPod touch are apparently active and able to record audio after all.
Unfortunately the site detailing the relatively simple hack has already been demolished by info-hungry touch owners, but this certainly opens an interesting door or two. Next stop: figuring out how to get the headphone jack to do the same.

NES.app is not iPhoneNES!
NES.app started as a fork of iPhoneNES v0.01, but has been completely rewritten to run very fast, and with many additional features including sound, multitouch support, full-screen, landscape mode, game genie codes, saved games and much more. As of recent, stepwhite re-released a much older version of NES.app as iPhoneNES v0.31. We have no idea why, but please be aware that NES.app is in no way affiliated with the iPhoneNES project (which only ever released v0.01 officially). Vinterstum has released a new version of ScummVM for the Apple iPhone, heres the latest release news:
New version with a couple of things:
* Fixed a silly palette issue that was causing things like Guybrush appearing as a black blob in COMI, the menu being black in Indy4, and various things not fading in properly.
* Removed the swipe-up-for-1 workaround, and replaced it with a toggle for a click-and-hold-mousebutton mode. When this is enabled, you do an actual mouseclick as soon as you hit the screen and start moving your finger around (and release it when you lift your finger), instead of only clicking when you specifically do a quick tap.
This should make COMI actually playable, hopefully.
New version uploaded.
Only change, pretty much: MP3 support. I haven't gotten libMAD to compile with the optimized ARM routines yet so I dunno how efficient it'll be, but at least it's there .
Another update:
Optimized some screen handling stuff, which mainly affects the AGOS engine (Simon the Sorcerer should run a lot better now).

R4m0n has released and updated his iPhysics app for the iPhone, heres the full release details:
Looking through the Hackint0sh foruns, I found this thread about the game Crayon Physics, and really liked the idea of having something like that in the iPhone… I posted in the Crayon Physics blog requesting to be allowed to port the app to the iPhone, but got no answer so far… So I started hacking something like it, and I’m getting something almost usable by now…
What it have so far:
Gravity controlled by the accelerometer;
Drawing and collision simulation of circles(just tap) and convex polygons(drag the contour);
Up to 50 objects on screen (arbitrary number, can get quite slow with lots of polygons);
My next goal is to support concave polygons, and then turn it into a real game… Else than the original Crayon Physics gameplay, anyone have any suggestion of what we can do with it? Now we have the accelerometer and gestures to play with, so I guess something quite different could be made…
Update - 2007-11-24
Got the concave simple (non-self intersecting) polygons working! Now that I’m happy with my polygons, I will start the first game for the engine. You can expect a playable simple clone of Crayon Physics in a few hours…

British iPhone users, who bought the Apple phones when they went on sale in England on Nov. 9, are reporting persistent problems with signal strength on O2, the UK's only iPhone service provider. The complaints started only 2 days later. InfoWeek blogger Alex Wolfe says there's a debate as to whether O2 or the iPhone is at fault; it appears to be the handset, which is unusual since US users haven't reported similar problems. Some 02 customers report that getting a replacement phone fixes things; others have had to do a software restore back to version 1.1.2 of the iPhone software

iSpit is a fast and tiny (<20KB) http server that allows you browse and download files from your iPhone using your favorite Internet browser.
Having quick access to the files on your iPhone is very handy. Considered that a browser is nearly always available these days so we thought that would be a good addition to the iPhone. You can, if you wish, install the Apache httpd daemon on your iPhone; we consider Apache as a great application but it's quite a load and not easy to turn on and off. We wanted to have a lightweight solution that would not be bother us having it installed and would be easy to turn on and off.

R4m0n has updated his iPhysics app for the iPhone, heres the full release details:
Update - 2007-11-24
Lots of changes in this one… Added a background image(borrowed from Crayon Physics), the gravity now is fixed (in this game mode, for now), now you can draw lines too (anything with the end far from the beginning is a line, so watch out), a new icon, you can grab-and-drag objects already drawn (tricky with the small circles), and probably something else that I may have forgotten.
Small update - 2007-11-25
This app is very experimental right now, and some people may not like the changes that I will be making as we go by… This is normal, and when things get more stable, there will be options to enable and disable every feature, and everything you can do now, and could in the past, will be possible. But right now, for those who miss the cleanness and freedom of the 0.2 version, I set up a historical repository that can be added to Installer.app with this URL: http://iphone.r4m0n.net/repos/?history
All versions of all my apps will eventually end up there, and installing an app from there will overwrite any other version installed, as they install always at the same directory. If you overwrite an installed app, just uninstall in and install again and it will be fine…

Zodttd has released a new version of his gba emulator for the iphone and ipod touch, this version is for his beta testers only
heres whats new:
New in v0.1.5 Beta 2:
- Fixed some huge memory leaks. These memory leaks caused games to crash when loading, especially when they would work on first boot of Springboard and gpSPhone, but not after extended use (as well as switching ROMs mid-game).
- Changed the skin used.
- Improved "suspend" support. It's turned on by default. If you don't like exiting the emulator via the main rom list menu, disable this.
- Set auto_frame_skip as the default.
- Tweaked the sound settings slightly.
- Added an option to enable/disable screen scaling.

By now you're all fully schooled in the black art of jailbreaking and unlocking your new iPhone, right? Did you know that the whole dirty business can be done via iTunes in just "seconds?" The catch: it requires a €999 (about $1,480) unlocked iPhone sold (at least temporarily) by T-Mobile Germany. Interestingly enough, there isn't any physical (or bit-level) difference between a locked and unlocked iPhone, it's Apple working all the unlocking magic over the network with a bit of help from iTunes. According to first reports from MacNotes.de, the IMEI number is recorded at the point of sale and sent to Apple. After 24 hours, the iPhone can be unlocked by iTunes in a procedure taking just seconds. The firmware remains unchanged at 1.1.2. This news potentially opens up the iPhone to further unlocking schemes although it already sounds very similar to the approach favored by iPhoneSimFree clan, don't you think?

While Orange seems to be holding out until the last minute to announce exactly how much its unlocked iPhone will cost, France Telecom CEO Didier Lombard has apparently dropped a few less-than-specific details on the matter in a recent interview, saying that it'll cost "over 500 euros, but well below 1,000 euros." Or, in US dollars, roughly somewhere between $740 and $1,500, but apparently closer to the former. A bit pricey to be sure, but it would certainly be cheaper than the €999 unlocked iPhone that T-Mobile is selling in Germany.
As previously announced, a locked iPhone on Orange (complete with a two-year contract) will set you back €399. Look for things to get fleshed out further when Orange gets official with its iPhone offerings on Thursday.

It's not clear how widespread the problem is, but a number of iPhone users in the UK are reporting serious reception issues on O2's network.
Our source in the UK has told us that his O2 iPhone currently has no service in the same room as other O2 phones with five bars and an unlocked iPhone on Vodafone with full service, and Apple's UK support forums are buzzing with similar reports. Users are also reporting that replacement iPhones don't exhibit the same problems, so the problem might be with the device itself -- but that would be strange, seeing as iPhones in other countries don't have the same issues.
For its part, Apple appears to be replacing units as they're brought in, and hasn't made any official statement on the matter yet -- any UK iPhone users out there care to chime in?
If you live in the UK and happen to own the iPhone, then please leave feedback on this article via comments.

R4mon has updated his app once more, heres the release info:
A lot of changes in this one, let’s see if I don’t forget anything:
Core and games separated, the core stays at /Applications/iPhysics, the games goes to root/Media/iPhysics/Games;
Just one game engine now, and no way to select another yet, but that will come soon… and the current one is of Crayon Physics, of course;
Added a blue ball that must be moved to the red square to advance the “level”, which is just the background for now;
All backgrounds of Crayon Physics load now;
Shake to restart - shake your iPhone and it deletes all your objects and restarts the level. Drop me a note if it is to sensible/hard to erase, and I will change the settings;
The dragging seems to be broken, I’ll try to fix that ASAP;
If I didn’t forgot anything, that’s it. I plan to implement next the various levels and objectives with just simple polygons else than graphics, and when that is done, I’ll go to nice crayonesque graphics.

iSolitaire is a native version of Klondike Solitaire (same as XP Solitaire game) for the iPhone.
It's in its early stages but the current features are:
- plays Klondike version of Solitaire
- double tap table for options screen where you can deal new cards, change the draw number (1 or 3) or show time/score
- nice surprise once you win (hint: see iSnake or Bounce for an idea what might happen)
- theme support. Add your own theme and easily switch via options screen. Included are default and leopard (thanks to sunsurfin) themes. I'm also looking for a real cool theme that changes the cards as well to be included in the core package

Jonz has released a new version of his Nes Emulator for the iPhone:
South Korea, which has already seen two people supposedly struck by lightening drawn to their cellphones, has now experienced its first death due to an exploding handset battery. According to the AP, a quarry worker was found dead Wednesday with the remnants of an LG mobile melted into his shirt pocket, much like the welder who died under similar tragic circumstances this summer in China. For its part, while acknowledging that one of its phones was indeed the culprit, LG reportedly claimed that dying due to such an accident was "virtually impossible."

Changes:
* Transfers: new transfers feature between two iPhone on Wifi
* Web site moved to http://movenplay.gforge.inria.fr/ (it should be used as your "update_url" in mnplight.ini for update from within MNPlight)

While 'stacks' are great for either very small lists in the fan formation, or medium size lists with the grid view, there is a very tight limit on the number of files you can view in a 'stack' folder. Unfortunately every folder you add to the dock will become a 'stack' and always follows those rules.
QUAY by Rainer Brockerhoff solves this problem by allowing the user to add any folder to the dock, which when selected opens up as a scrolling list. Because this is a hierarchical menu, you are free to continue browsing through folders without adding windows to the desktop, a single click will open any folder, document or application and the menu will close.
While the software isn't free, one Quay menu will be usable until the software is registered, if you only want to have a usable Applications stack then it is perfectly usable without cost. -Not that the low registration fee of $10 is anything to complain about.

Zodttd has updated his excellent GBA Emulator for the Iphone/Itouch:
gpSPhone v0.5.0 has been released. It's changelist is short but the changes are large. I've been trying to get Exophase's dynarec working on the iPhone for quite some time now, and I finally did it. Enjoy a huge performance and compatibility increase.
NOTE: SAVE STATES FROM ALL PREVIOUS VERSIONS MAY NOT WORK WITH FUTURE VERSIONS FROM NOW ON! UPGRADE NOW.
Changes in 0.5.0:
- Considerable performance increase due to moving to Exophase's dynarec.
- Considerable compatibility increase due to moving to Exophase's dynarec.
- Save states format has been updated! Old save states most likely won't work!

Staff at the UK's biggest mobile phone retailer, Carphone Warehouse, have been caught misleading customers about Apple's popular iPhone handset.
Undercover researchers from BBC One's Watchdog found staff made false claims about what would happen if a phone was stolen and had not been insured.
This was in the hope customers would take out the store's own insurance.
The firm said there could be "some element of confusion among an isolated number of sales consultants".
But Carphone Warehouse added it did not believe that the "small number of complaints" were "a fair reflection of the experience of thousands of iPhone customers who have received insurance advice in our stores".
The findings come just a year after Carphone Warehouse was fined Ł245,000 by the Financial Services Authority for breaking the rules on selling insurance.

iMapIdle is an iPhone application that simulates "Push Email" with your IMAP server. It's in its early stages but the current features are:
- listens in the background waiting for new IMAP mail even if you are in sleep/standby mode
- notifies you via a popup and/or sound. You choose how to be notified. Sound notification should use the same method your mail client uses (ie: if you have vibrate on, it'll vibrate as well)
- popup notification allows you to choose whether the mail client should check for email right there by forcing the mail client to check the server (it doesn't launch the mail client but just forces it to check the server). NOTE: Don't choose this if you are in the mail client as it will exit (you've been warned). The popup will disappear after 20 seconds and if you miss it the iMapIdle icon will show you how many popup notifications you have missed
- supports SSL connections and special support for GMail IMAP

MNPlight aims at getting rid of the need for a computer with iTunes. It runs on your iPhone, and is able to modify the iPhone calendar, address book and iPod databases.
MNPlight can be of particular interest for Linux users who don't have iTunes, but it can also be used by other users when they want to update their iPhone data when they are away from their iTunes computer.
If you keep using iTunes, you may experiment problems with the Calendar and the Address Book since modifications done on your iPhone won't be seen by iTunes.

* Calendar: bug where imported events are not editable fixedhttp://movenplay.gforge.inria.fr/

R4mon has updated his Physics app for the iphone, heres whats new:
Well, this one was a big one... I rewrote all the graphics code and cut out SDL, which was more than doubling the app size... Now the graphics can be improved with a little more ease (and right now look a little better).
But more interestingly: Now we have a main menu, where all games will be listed, and right now there is a new mode, the Sandbox, where you will be able to play with all options of the game (just accelerometer use and gravity right now).
And there is the user level created by Rawd at the end of the previous 3 levels (sorry, no more levels in this version, but things are way better now...)
The drawing lines are working again, and looking good. No double tap delete yet, but in the next version it REALLY will be in...
And the shake to erase has been softened, try not to hiccup while playing...
A note for level makers: I rotated the images, so if you have a user level you will need to rotate your image CCW by 90 degrees. There is also some more control in the level packs, take a look at the files...
