S2P(Slide2Play) is my third S2 series application. S2P is a stylus-free MP3/WMA player application. It simply lets you browse your music files & play.
Changes:
- reduced the RAM usage, especially when there are a lot of music files on the list.
- reduced the start up time.
- added option (FullScreenAlbum) to display a larger album art. For 240 x 240 device, please set it to 0.
- added a sliding button to "move" the playback.
- added minimize S2P by tapping the top right corner of the screen.
- rearranged some keys - END/OK to quit; ACCEPT to minimize.
- integration with S2U2 v1.00 or later (read the S2U2's readme.txt for details)
- all system icons are live when S2U2 (v1.00 or later) is already running in the background. (but it doesn't mean S2U2 is mandatory)
- runs properly on a 320x320 emulator, but not tested on any real 320x320 devices.
- some minor bugs fixed.

New version of the PlayStation emulator for iPhone and iPod Touch.
Changelog:
- Added support to firmwares such as 1.1.3 and 1.1.4.
- Compiled with saurik's new toolchain.
- Fixed the detection of whether frameskipping can be used during certain frames within a game.
- Improved the dynamic recompiler code.
- Moved the BIOS location to /var/(mobile or root depending on firmware)/Media/ROMs/PSX/
This release brings up to 50% more performance than previous releases. Though going from 25 FPS to 37 FPS isn't going to cut it, it's still an improvement. Most games are running at about 20-30 FPS it seems. I'm not quite sure why the iPhone is running psx4all slower than most handhelds of equal or lesser raw CPU power. It may be due to the way the iPhone/iPod Touch clears it's instruction cache via sys_invalidate_icache(...) or it could be due to the read speed of the ISO's. Maybe both. Either way more work has to be done to see whats bottlenecking the iPhone and this application.

Despite Becks' prior troubles with über-geeky car thieves, we're fairly certain the LA Galaxy midfielder still has a soft spot in his heart for technology. And even if he doesn't, we're confident there's a nook in there for precious metals. Reportedly, Mr. Beckham has been gifted with a gilded iPod touch (the top-end 32GB model, no less) by his English teammates after participating in his 100th appearance for the national club. Word on the street has it that the golden touch only set the squad back Ł600 ($1,188), which isn't too shabby considering the Ł329 ($651) sticker on the vanilla version.

We're sorry, but we can no longer summon any sort of enthusiasm for iPhone knockoffs. Who cares if they're running Windows Mobile 6 with a perfect clone of the iPhone interface, plus GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth and whatever other tech flavor of the month; the form factor just kills it for us at this point. Plus at $265 wholesale, the CECT T5 T32 from China ain't no bargain. Let's try a bit harder, people!

But that is only for starters. In general, it will significantly enhance the utility you derive from your device. Check the home page for a (nearly) full list.
Changes:
Does your device have an integrated GPS receiver?
Is your device subscribed to an unlimited data plan?
Is the device OS Windows Mobile 5.0 or above?http://www.geoterrestrial.com/

So after my failure in getting saurik's new homebrew toolchain to work with my Apple iPhone and iPod Touch development, I decided to let saurik know of my progress. Good thing I did, as he quickly figured out the problem I was having, and now things are up and running! Now that I have a proper toolchain to develop with, I immediately went to work with my existing projects. First up is snes4iphone.
snes4iphone v1.5.0 has now been released to beta testers at ZodTTD.com. This build is very special as it marks what is soon to be a trend in the following weeks...performance increases! This is largely due to the great strides saurik made while updating the tools I use to develop with. With some fixes I've made plus the new toolchain, some users have reported a 50% increase in performance of snes4iphone!
I've also been working on getting sound introduced into snes4iphone though it's been an uphill battle. I can emulate and mix the sound, but for some reason it just outputs silence. More work is needed, but it at least is being worked on.
What ZodTTD.com project should get the performance treatment next?
- genesis4iphone: Could give Sega CD games the speed they need.
- gpSPhone: Could get the few slow GBA games running well.
- psx4iphone: While still too slow to matter much for almost all games, the few that run well now, will run very well. Also will add 1.1.3+ fw support.
Also worth mentioning:
- OpenTTD.app: Not sure if it needs performance increases, but it sure needs the 1.1.3+ firmware support. It's a known issue and will be updated regardless.
Keep the comments coming. Thanks,
ZodTTD

Turning out to be a busy day! N-Gage just went live. Phew. There's a 7MB .sisx client to install via the usual PC Suite route. Here's the English Download link. (via p@sco). Initial observations, device compatibility and screenshots of the only new game, Brain Challenge, below. All other announced games are still shown as 'coming soon' on the web site. All comments welcome, of course.
Devices supported right NOW include variants of the Nokia N95, N81, plus the N82, with the N73, N93 and N93i all listed as 'coming soon'. Any bets on whether any of these latter three devices will need a firmware update?
As part of the install, the old N-Gage 'preview' is removed from the menu screen. The new N-Gage icon appears under 'Installations', as usual for apps.
You can now register your permanent N-Gage usernames (I'm 'slitchfield') although, curiously, the ones they let us 'reserve' a few months ago now come up as not available. Sigh.

Another Guest has a good heart! Right after releasing the S60 3rd Edition version, he felt that UIQ 3.x users might feel let down and disappointed, so he immediately released an UIQ 3.x version of his Wolfenstein 3D port. In our Downloads you can find all versions letting you play full and shareware releases of both the original Wolf 3D and its SOD (Spears of Destiny) sequel. It's freeware, so all you're expected to do in exchange is to post your feedback!

News from Mollusk:
Hello all !
I haven't done any extra work on PocketGravity yet, but I set up (or at least tried ^^) a page for sharing scenes ! Nothing major, it just takes the scenes, extracts the mini-view, and displays all that...
The only working extension is .pgs, all other extensions will be rejected, I don't people uploading tons of stuff ^^
http://www.xflib.net/index.php?action=pocketgravity
Uploading is restricted to registered members to avoid spamming. Sorry for those who aren't registered and don't want to :/ You can just PM me with the link and I'll add it for you...
A few comments before you check it out :
1. The 4 uploaded scenes were uploaded for testing purpose only, I'll remove them once a few other scenes are posted...
2. It looks horrible because I didn't have much time so I just made a quick upload form and a quick display routine... If you have any layout ideas, feel free to share !!!
3. I haven't seen any, but there might be some bugs. I only tested on windows using firefox, sorry... Feel free to bug me (here, xflib.net, PM, msn, whatever) if you see anything weird...
4. Upload time !
Thanks to all of you

Not even a month after three iPods got all hot and bothered on separate occasions, along comes images showing that even Apple's iPhone isn't immune to melting itself. Purportedly, the handset was purchased from Carphone Warehouse in December, but was never activated for one reason or another. Just this week, the owner's son slapped it in a dock with intentions of activating, walked downstairs to catch the last few minutes of Magnum, P.I. and returned to his room to find a "stupidly hot" iPhone which had already melted in some parts and had its screen cracked from the reaction. Not surprisingly, he's currently in the middle of a runaround trying to get someone to remedy the issue, but thankfully no Earthlings, carpets or IKEA desks were harmed.
Update: Thanks to Logan5's quick eyes, it appears we've discovered a scammer in our midst. Essentially, this bloke posted the real story here noting that the crack (more on that here) actually appeared after it was mishandled and dropped. Haven't we learned this approach doesn't work by now?

The “DevTeam” would like to announce the release of the OS X version of the PwnageTool application.
The team (and especially Wizdaz) have been working hard to bring you this release in as short a time as possible.
The plan (4 weeks ago) was to release a Mac tool only. This was decided because of the lack of reliable Mac filesystem tools on Windows, and the fact that the task of porting them would be too time consuming.
With that in mind the genius that is “cmw” stepped up to the plate and offered his services to the DevTeam. He proposed to provide a tool that would give the same functionality and User Interface as the Mac tool.
cmw has done an almost unthinkable task and ported the almost complete Pwnage Tool to Windows in a little under a week, and we would like to thank him for this unbelievable work. He is currently in the final test stages and hopefully this should be finished within the next 24 hours (but even he needs sleep and family time occasionally!) We'll post a link as soon as the testing has finished.
cmw's site is at http://www.iphonelinux.org
The Mac tool is available at http://www.iphone-dev.org
Thanks to Sal Iovine for the awesome Steve parody image, this is copyrighted material and is provided to the DevTeam under a Creative Commons Attribution No Derivative Works 3.0 Unported license, you can see more of his work at http://www.saliovine.blogspot.com/

At AT&T's press feast today, the focus was unquestionably the trial deployment of Microsoft's Surface kiosks to stores later this month -- the presence of Microsoft's own Robbie Bach was testament to that fact. But there was more to the action by the time the show was over. Deployment of 3G and 4G services was a hot topic both during CEO Ralph de la Vega's presentation and in the post-conference Q&A (one member of the press lamented the fact that AT&T's BlackBerrys still lack HSDPA), and at one point he mentioned that all of the carrier's smartphones would be 3G within a matter of mere "months."
We figure that instantly thrusts several devices onto (and off of) AT&T's roadmap in the very near future, including a 3G iPhone and the BlackBerry 9000 we recently saw strutting its stuff. Of course, that would also preclude the just-introduced Palm Centro from hanging around for very long, since it tops out with EDGE speeds; last time we checked Garnet had a hard time handling HSDPA, so something's got to give. We're not writing the obit just yet -- CEOs' statements are often a mere shadow of reality, after all -- but it's certainly food for thought.

While talking up web as a video delivery medium at a Beet.TV executive summit, Walt Mossberg casually yet confidently mentioned that the iPhone will be going 3G in 60 days. Of course, it doesn't take an illustrious position as tech pundit to the masses to figure out a 3G iPhone is just around the corner: price cuts, stock shortages and word from Ralph de la Vega himself have rapidly narrowed down the launch window, but a semi-guarantee from Uncle Walt is certainly icing on the cake.

N-Gage fans will want to check out NeXtVideo's YouTube channel, as there are videos of almost every upcoming N-Gage title, including Brothers in Arms, Dogz, Midnight Pinball, Worms World Party, FIFA 08, and many more. Well worth watching and all we need now, Nokia, are the actual games to buy. I'm champing at the bit for Pro Series Golf, personally!

BlackFlip is a Polarium clone, an easy to play (but hard to finish) puzzle game perfectly suited for stylus play.
The rules of the game are really very simple : there are black and white tiles which need to be flipped so that each row is either all white or all black... Different lines can even have different colors. Yes, as simple as that !
But the twist is that you can only do a single path, which can't overlap with itself. To draw that path, simple click on the puzzle, and move around. You can backtrack at anytime. To validate the path, simply click on the destination point and it'll flip all the tiles !
The grey border around is a neutral zone : no flipping on it, and it's not involved in the color check. So you can move on that one as if you were moving in and out of the puzzle. Doesn't sound like much, but using the grey tiles effectively is the key to solving the hardest puzzles.
For more details on how the game works, check out the video !
The games main feature is it's incredibly hi number of puzzles : more than 6000 !!! These range from very easy (0 stars, solvable in a few seconds) to very hard (5 stars, only solvable in a few minutes and by advanced players)...
This early release is pretty crappy, misses a few graphics, and doesn't actually have more features than that. But all the puzzles are available/solvable, and your progress is saved.
If you like puzzle games, this is a must-have ! If you don't like puzzle games... Well... Just give it a try, it's a matter of seconds before you learn how it works and see the potential of the beast. Just don't play directly on the harder puzzles...
TODO-list for the next versions :
- Better general interface
- Sorted menu (by author, difficulty, etc...)
- Winning/losing animations
- In-game level creator
- Level generator with difficulty settings (not as fun as real levels, and... well, just finish the 6000 levels first...)
- Etc...
ALL the credit for the game idea goes to Mitchell Corp. for creating the original Polarium game (for Nintendo DS and Gameboy Advance). If you like this game, considering buying one of those versions, the author definitely deserves the money !
Blackflip PocketPC is a port from the flash version by [F]laboratorium.org. All the credit for the graphics and the levels go to them and all the users who contributed to making/sharing all these puzzles. The game will be updated regularly to have up-to-date versions with the latest levels !
Have fun !

To be honest, JVC's P-Series LCD line may still hold the crown for most expensive iPod dock, but at least it comes with an expansive 1080p panel, right? Pushing aside a number of a worthy opponents on its charge to most absurd / unnecessary iPod dock evar, the iCoral supposedly features a top plate constructed from artificial coral and is proudly decorated with a "very artistic design" (Copulare's words, not ours). 'Round back, you'll find USB, S-Video and stereo analog outputs, but we're simply not seeing the slit in which your currency of choice comes out of at the press of a button. Due to that unfortunate omission, we're suggesting you hold tight to your €1,500 ($2,355) -- unless you're one David Beckham, of course.

I was pretty wowed by the Apple presentation of Super Monkey Ball on the iPhone last month. The use of the tilt controls for this game in particular seem really intuitive. So any news about it, and games like iPhone Spore, make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
Today Other Ocean announced that they are working with Sega to develop a demo version of the iPhone game.
"We were tremendously honored to be asked to work on the demo version of Super Monkey Ball and also to participate in the actual unveiling," said Ayre.
"Apple's SDK is extremely developer-friendly and the iPhone, with its accelerometer, is the perfect platform for Super Monkey Ball," explained Gordon Wood, Other Ocean's Technical Director and Senior Programmer. "The iPhone is going to be a major player in the handheld gaming market, and we're excited to be among the first to develop games for the device."
"We knew Super Monkey Ball could be a perfect game for the iPhone, and all we needed was the right team to partner with to make it happen," said David Cobb, Sega's Vice President of Product Development. "Other Ocean was the obvious choice to build the demo version, with their experience giving us a clear advantage."
I don't know if the iPhone is going to be a major gaming device, but it sure as heck seems to be a better platform for gaming than a regular phone. Now when is that demo coming out?

Other Ocean Interactive's CEO, Andrew Ayre, today confirmed it has partnered with SEGA of America to develop a demo version of the Super Monkey Ball game for iPhone. Super Monkey Ball was highlighted at Apple's iPhone SDK event on March 6, 2008.

Oh Unkie Walt, you toy with us so. Just a couple days after promising that the 3G iPhone would be out within 60 days, the Moss-man is saying that he was simply making a prediction based on the same data as the rest of us: price cuts, dried-up inventory, and all kinds of rumors. That's not at all what it seems like on the tape, but sure. Walt also thinks that a little meta-media-analysis is due here, asking Silicon Alley Insider, "If I knew when this date was, why would I announce it in the middle of a sentence at the Finnish embassy, rather than report it in the Wall Street Journal?" Excellent point, but you might want to be a little more careful the next time you flatly declare "The iPhone will be 3G in 60 days" with no caveats and the cameras running, okay?

Remember that sweet little magnifying glass from the iPhone SDK demo? Well apparently we all weren't having a shared hallucination -- it's in the enterprise version of firmware 2.0. Thanks to a tipster, we've now got shots of the search bar clearly hanging out at the top of the contacts list. While we're unraveling mysteries, you'll be happy to know that the little drawer button -- which did nothing in the regular old firmware we had -- is actually a meeting invitations folder, which displays the number of requests just like the SMS and mail icons. Other changes? Enterprise users don't get the app store or iTunes store icons. Boo. Check out the gallery below to see just exactly what we're talking about. Now, on to finding JFK's real killer!

That video we saw the other day of two iPod touches running a networked Quake 3 deathmatch sent ripples through the iPod / iPhone community. Those of you doubting the authenticity of the clip can probably put some fears to bed, as GameCyte has gotten a hold of the programmers, and they make it fairly clear it wasn't some elaborate hoax. According to developers Cameron and Marcia Tofer of Hermitworks, they managed to get the game up and running on the touches in, "Between eight and twelve hours," using jail-broken units, no official SDK, and modified code that added basic accelerometer support. The game in the video is being hosted on one of the devices and played over a local network -- and the Tofers claim that running a full 64-player match wouldn't be out of the question. Unfortunately, there aren't any plans to make this demo public, as the team is working on original content for the platform.

The folks at ZiPhone spotted some code in the brand new 2.0 beta iPhone firmware that could point to the chip to be used in the upcoming 3G iPhone. The code makes mention of "SGOLD3," which could very well refer to Infineon's followup chip to the S-GOLD2 which powers the current iPhone. Infineon's less fancy name for the S-GOLD3H chip is the PMB8878, a 7.2Mbps HSDPA chip with all the video acceleration and media playback features iPhone users have come to expect. Advantages over its predecessor include higher resolution camera support (5 megapixels instead of 2), a 2x speed MMC / SD interface and DVB-H module support, but that doesn't necessarily mean any of those specs will end up in the ensuing iPhone 3G -- S-GOLD2 has plenty of features the current iPhone doesn't take advantage of. The processor speed, however, remains the same.

News/release from Zodttd
For those who have joined, or are joining the Beta Testers Club here at ZodTTD.com, you will be treated to a surprise today! A new beta of gpSPhone has been released.
Here's whats new in gpSPhone v1.7.0 beta:
- Properly syncs sound to gameplay. Sound quality is greatly improved in this version. Now uses proper use of signaling conditions in threads to sync sound.
- Performance increased due to using new compiler from the developer saurik, and assorted bug fixes.
- Thanks to NerveGas of NES.app, bug fixes were submitted and used to properly handle GUI aspects such as the navbar now being at the top.
Keep in mind the following additional instructions after installing:
- Set your (replace mobile with root if using firmware 1.1.2 or earlier) /var/mobile/Media/ROMs/GBA directory to have world writable permissions, such as 777. Otherwise you wont be able to save!
- Make sure you have the proper GBA BIOS file gba_bios.bin inside /Applications/gpSPhone.app/ otherwise you will get an error when loading a game!
Hope to see some YouTube videos of this beta in action in the comments here.

iContact v0.6 is out.
Release notes:
Hi everyone.
I think it's the right time to open a new thread for iContact. Version 0.6 and it's source code are out. New in 0.6 are:
simple favorites management. Sliding a contact from left to right brings a plus sign. It's a little tricky at first, but i got used to it. Tapping on the plus sign tags a contact as favorite. If the contact is already favorite, you can unfavorite it (does that word exist?
Pushing "Right" on the D-pad brings the favorites window. Pushing "Left" brings "all contacts" window.
"mobile" and "work" numbers have "sms" option. Tapping it will bring new sms window.
"email" option works if you have configured email account, and have it entered in iContact settings file.
D-pad navigation is fully supported in contact details. Left key brings you back to contact list, while Right key brings you "new sms dialog" if currently selected number has sms option.
settings.ini file has been added. It must reside in the same directory as iContact.exe. You can setup your email account in there and you can also setup strings used throughout the app ("mobile", "sms", "ABC" etc ...)
other small fixes
There will probably be bugs, as always. However, this time I've included the source code. I encourage anyone interested and skilled to use the source code. It's in best interest for the whole community if iContact continues to evolve. And even faster than it has until now.
I know the code is the mess, so i don't need to be reminded of that fact X).
Other reason for releasing source code is that i really have no free time to develop this app. I'm looking forward to see how this app will evolve in hands of skilled programmers. iContact satisfies MY needs, and more, but i realize there are people that have different needs. So, go ahead, grab the source and good luck.
The source code released doesn't have a specific license attached. However, I'd suggest anyone who will use it to consider returning something to the community. That is something that makes a good community that good.
Thank you all for you support and comments. I hope this is best for community.
Take care,
larna

BlackFlip is a Polarium clone, an easy to play (but hard to finish) puzzle game perfectly suited for stylus play.
Further release notes:
Have fun !http://www.xflib.net/index.php?topic=84.0

Apple's next big event is still over two months away, but the iPhone rumor mill is suddenly in full swing, and we'd say the buzz is back after that short-lived Mossberg "60 days" euphoria wore off. Tgdaily is the one making waves today, claiming that we'll see next-gen 8GB and 16GB iPhones debut at WWDC this June for $399 and $499, and that the iPod touch will always offer twice the storage at any given price point. The new units are said to feature revised casings that eliminate the current model's "plasticky" feel, which is interesting, because that supposedly-leaked image from the other day seems pretty ultra-plasticky to us, but we're not exactly expecting any of these rumors to be true, let alone add up. Other than the re-design, tgdaily says there aren't any OS or interface changes in store, and that Apple is really serious about building the Cocoa Touch platform in addition to OS X-- hence the two bridges on those WWDC invites that went out. That's about it -- nothing too shocking, really, but we'd still take all this stuff with a huge grain of salt until Steve sets things straight.

Stuff.tv is kicking back in Nike's HQ at the moment and claims to have official word about Nike's future plans with Apple. They say that the Nike+ system will "definitely" extend beyond the iPod nano to support the relatively bulky iPhone and iPod touch. Interestingly, it will leap-frog the proprietary RF link between the shoe module and nano adapter to take advantage of WiFi and eventually 3G. This of course leads to all kinds of speculation with regard to Apple's "lifestyle companion" patent we showed you last month. 3G support would presumably allow for real-time coaching and uploads of your training activity through the Nike Plus website. So let's see... cellphone (check), iPod (check), Internet device (check), handheld gaming (almost), and now a Nike lifestyle companion (could be).

The OpenMoko Neo Freerunner has been in the making since before the Jurassic period, but it looks like official word has now been released regarding the final pricing details. The Linux based cellphone will retail at $399 for a single unit and $3690 for a pack containing ten handsets.
Currently, the OpenMoko fellows have received back their first production verification test devices and they are busy making the necessary tweaks to the hardware / software. As for a release date, we've been promised more details concerning distribution will be forthcoming in the "next few days." I'm kinda itching to try one of these out, but it looks like we'll all be waiting a little bit longer. We'll keep you posted on any developments.

Splash Screen Randomizer is a simple tool that launches in the background at startup and swaps out the Welcome Splash screen with a random splash screen from a folder that can be defined by you.
Changes:
You can now preview the next boot splash or randomize a new one from settings
You can pick an individual splash screen to use(this will remove the randomizer link from startup until the "single file" option is unchecked)
You can now reset the picture back to the original setting by pressing the "Reset"
The splash are no longer copied from the splash folder to the windows folder. The registry values that point to the file in the windows folder are now changed to point to the file in the splash folder. This does improve startup speed because less io traffic is happening Credit for reg links:l3v5y
The OpenFile dialog has been slimmed down and tweaked a bit to allow context sensitive clicking(i.e. "right click" gives "Enter Folder, Select Folder, and Select File"respectively)
If you had 0.7.5 you should uninstall it first and delete the directory called "SplashScreenRandomizerSetup" in your program files(you don't have to do that from 1.0 on) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=383838

The N-Gage application finally came out of beta testing recently and has officially launched for the N81, N95 and N82. The application is free to download from the official N-Gage site, which also has instructions on how to install it, and in the near future it will be built into the firmware of compatible phones.
The public beta testing of the N-Gage app took place earlier this year under the name of "First Access", and it worked surprisingly well for a beta version. There were problems, bugs and various odd design decisions but those were understandable in what was an unfinished product. However, the N-Gage app which is now available is being touted as a finished product, so we are entitled be a little more harsh about any shortcomings it may have.
Hopefully this article will provide some constructive criticism on how to improve what is the gateway to the new N-Gage platform. The software is generally very well designed and has a lot of potential, but it needs some fixing and polishing to convince people that the N-Gage brand stands for quality. The original gen N-Gage did serious damage to the N-Gage name's reputation, so the new generation N-Gage platform has to try extra-hard to make up for that.
Some of the following problems are more serious than others, but they all contribute to the feeling that the N-Gage app isn't working 100% properly. In no particular order:
1) Where are my games, exactly?
One of the big challenges to any online service which sells downloads is how to convince people that their purchase is safe and easily accessible. Purchasers of downloads are often very uneasy about paying for something that doesn't physically exist, so it's very important that they can easily see where their purchases are and how to access them.
The "My Games" section shows which games you have purchased. If you select a game's "Remove" option, for example if you need space on the phone's memory card, the game leaves behind a ghostly version of its icon. When you click on this ghostly version you'd expect it to offer to reinstall the game, but it actually offers to delete all your scores in that game, and there's no option for restoring the game at all. The only way to get the game back is to go to the showroom section and click on the "Download Demo" option, which isn't exactly the most intuitive way of doing things.
Once you've bought a game, it ought to appear on a list of your purchased titles which you'd see every time you log in with your N-Gage username. Clicking on a game's icon in the "My Games" section should automatically launch it if it's installed on the device, or install it if it isn't. It shouldn't be any more complicated than this.
2) Error messages and other bugs
Almost inevitably when you launch a new application or online service you're going to see error messages pop up now and then, but they seem particularly common on the N-Gage application compared to other phone software. This reviewer has had three separate error messages since installing the release version of the N-Gage app a few days ago.
While reviewing Asphalt 3, the rankings board doesn't seem to exist at all, yet the game and the N-Gage app give you the option of viewing the rankings. Not an awful problem, but yet another feature that doesn't work properly.
Incidentally, if you run into a technical problem on N-Gage, the best thing to do is write down exactly what it says and post about it on the official N-Gage support forums. The people who run N-Gage do read those forums, so that's the most direct way of letting them know about problems.
3) The "Oh no is it about to crash?!" transition screens
One of the most messy-looking things about the new N-Gage app is the way it transitions from the app itself into the game. It rapidly flickers between the phone's wallpaper and the app itself in various screen orientations, then finally manages to calm down and bring up the actual game. It looks very cheap and makes the software feel like it's unfinished and unstable.
This happens every single time we've tried to load a game or visit the app from the game, and the problem was present on the beta version of the N-Gage app many months ago. Quite why this hasn't been fixed yet is unclear. S60 games launch without this problem, and N-Gage games are technically just S60 games, so this shouldn't be difficult to fix.
4) Has it started yet?
Launching the N-Gage app is a slow process, it takes several seconds to actually launch which is taken up by the phone's blank wallpaper. It might be nicer to have it display the N-Gage logo during the start-up, as the blank wallpaper hints at some kind of instability or crash.
This isn't a big problem at all in itself, but together with all the other glitches it adds to the feeling of "is this really going to work?"
5) Where do I log in?
When this writer installed the N-Gage application and tried to log in with an existing username and password... it just wasn't possible. There's no obvious login screen or login option anywhere in the app. N-Gage is an online service now, so there needs to be some clear way for users to access their account on the device. Gmail has a login screen, Skype has a login screen, why not N-Gage?
6) The Point Pickup explanatory texts are cut off
One of the features of N-Gage which is meant to enhance the games and tie them together is the "point pickup" system, where certain in-game actions add to your account's total N-Gage points score. Each pickup for a game you own is listed in the application, but unfortunately the text which explains what you have to do to earn it is too long to fit on the screen, and there's no obvious way to scroll the text.
7) The games showroom includes games you've already bought
There's not that much room on a phone screen, so anything which uses the space more efficiently is a good idea. The N-Gage app's showroom where you buy games has large icons for all titles currently available, but rather annoyingly this includes games you've already bought. It would be nice if these were automatically filtered out when you view the showroom.
8) The screen orientation of the app doesn't match the screen orientation of the game
You always have to use the N-Gage app before and after playing a game (you can even consult the app during a game if you want to). This ought to be seamless, with N-Gage acting as a sort of all-in-one game management system, but it's made needlessly annoying because the N-Gage app's screen orientation bears no relation to the orientation of the game itself. If you consult the app while playing a game in horizontal mode, you have to turn the phone because the app only works in vertical mode. The more often you have to do this, the more annoying it becomes.
Even if you don't consult the app, when you submit a score in some games (for example Asphalt 3) the app appears anyway telling you it's connecting to theinternet, but it does so in the wrong orientation, adding to the cheap and unfinished feel.
It's not all bad! :-)
Just in case anyone thinks this is some kind of nitpicking hatchet job, we ought to emphasise that most of the N-Gage application is really good. Most of the time it does work properly, it's been laid out in a very intuitive way where you can navigate by just pressing left or right, and the general look of the interface is wonderfully bright and clear. There are also lots of lovely individual touches such as putting a direct link to the last played game on the front page so you can get back to it with a single click, and the bar charts next to each game that indicate how much of it you've played.
On top of that, the whole concept of selling games directly to a portable device is a very good one, and it's perfect for mobile phones as they always have access to an internet connection.
We think Nokia is definitely on the right track with the new N-Gage, it genuinely has the potential to revolutionise gaming because of the sheer number of devices that may carry it. However, Nokia do need to maintain very high quality control so that they can wipe out the bad repuation of the first generation N-Gage. Nowhere is this quality control more important than in the N-Gage application, because it's the one thing that all N-Gagers use, and it's where new users get their first impressions of the platform.

We told you that the new Pwnage—iPhone Dev Team tool to automatically hack legal Apple firmwares to free iPhone by making them fully-customizable, open and unlocked—version was imminent and here it is. Gizmodo got early access to the software and it works great. Apart from the previous unlocking and jailbreaking, the new version has three main features:
• Easily customizable images for start and restore screens.
• You can use packages to customize your firmware and install software right away, on one single update.
• You can now pwn iPhone 1.2.0 beta 3.
We also got confirmation of what was hinted last week: Apple is gearing up to battle the hackers, with more and more code running signed and secured inside the iPhone.
Would this be a real challenge to iPhone Dev Team's current dominance in the hacking war? According to them, it may. But it just makes thing more interesting and fun. Exactly what we wanted to hear.

Splash Screen Randomizer is a simple tool that launches in the background at startup and swaps out the Welcome Splash screen with a random splash screen from a folder that can be defined by you.
Changes:
Now use ANY of the major image formats(.bmp,.gif,.jpg,.jpeg,png,.tif) as your splash screen(the image is scaled and saved as a .png in your splashes folder)
The settings screen is now drawn dynamicaly(i.e. no scrollbars should be displayed when in portrait or landscape mode)
.bmp and .png files will be displayed/randomized if they are in your splashes folder
option added to replace your default splash(original splash is saved to your splashes folder)
Optimized code in several places and reduced overall size
Due to it's size, the default splash included with the smaller version is black_shadow69's black version below http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=383838

The iPhone and iPod touch are almost indistinguishable devices except for one major difference—you can make calls from your iPhone, and you can't from your iPod touch. For the privilege of making phone calls with your iPhone, you have to pay $100 more upfront to Apple for the device itself, plus a minimum of $60/month to AT&T for the next two years. Let's say you didn't need that kind of firepower from your iPod touch, but that you would like to use it make a phone call every now and then. You can, and today I'm going to show you how to make VoIP phone calls from your iPod touch or iPhone using a freeware application called SIP-VoIP.

Sure, the iPhone is cool looking, works out a lot, and is really good at math... but it can't do VoIP, can it? Well, yes it can -- and you can, thanks to a company called Fring and a piece of ingenious software (for jailbreakers only). Using the native app, it's now possible to place and receive calls via your WiFi connection, thus making AT&T CEOs cry like little babies. Besides doing Skype and the like, the app also lets you connect for chats via MSN Messenger, ICQ, GTalk, SIP, Twitter, AIM, and Yahoo!, which should make this an attractive package even if you don't want to harness the raw power of IP telephony. You can get the application for free by loading up Installer with the company's repo.

You might have heard that the latest iPhone 2.0 beta firmware allows users to save web images to its running camera roll for later download to its host machine (or sharing via email). Well, a reliable source let us know that the image capturing good times don't end there: the iPhone now capable of taking full screen caps (like the one above) simply by holding the sleep button, then tapping the home button. We haven't personally tested either technique (we already know what you're thinking: we can't say whether it captures screens from a video), but apparently it flashes white to indicate the cap's been taken and the image has been added to your roll. Let's hope these two neato features make it to the release firmware.

This program can extract modules from ROM. Program only can extract modules (exe,dll,cpl,...) (files which have FILE_ATTRIBUTE_ROMMODULE) but not designed to copy other ROM files, like bmp. You can copy other ROM files by using a file manager.
Program can handle both XIP and EXTIMAGE files. You should understand that all files comes without relocations. They are stripped from image and not stored in ROM at all. (Most of EXE files works fine) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=335540

The whole point of the program is to unlock you device not with some alphanumeric sequence or a simple key combination, but with a sequence pattern of points on screen.
Then the sequence entering screen is shown, where you need to repeat the configured sequence by taping the moving shapes. Device is automatically locked after soft-reset.
Going to check compatibility/add with different screen lockers (like S2U2) in future versions. Locker does not consume any resources while screen is locked. It is only activated when unlock is initiated.
Current version is in beta stage, so chances are there might be some quirks here and there.
Changes:
- Slightly different Checkers unlocker
- Accuracy (difficulty) increased
- Device is now automatically locked after soft-reset

Very soon beta testers will try out the latest version of genesis4iphone. genesis4iphone is a port of PicoDrive started by fDave and continued by notaz, that allows Apple iPhone and iPod Touch users to play Sega Genesis and Sega CD games.
This upcoming beta will fix some notable bugs in the previous release. Performance will be increased and sound quality will be much better. A few UI changes such as the navigation bar going back to the top may be made as well.
Get ready for some classic Sega action, as this beta is coming at the speed of blast processing!
(Note: Blast processing can take up to 24 hours to process.)

MobileTwitter is an iPhone/iPod Touch client for Twitter.
Changes:
The Update View has been redesigned and moved. It is no longer on the button bar at the bottom of the screen, but exists on the top right corner of every view. Clicking the “Update” button will slide the update view down over your current view. No more mis-clicking on buttons while going for the spacebar.
Settings view reorganized, with new options
Enable/Disable secure connections. This was enabled by default under the hood, but some users are experiencing connection problems, disabling secure connections may help.
MobileTwitter now automatically checks for new @replies and direct messages, displaying the new number on the button bar for Messages. The “Messages” view has been updated to show this count, and also include the “>” arrow for each menu option. Any new @replies will show up with a blue sphere beside them (similar to MobileMail.app and new messages)
New menu option when tapping tweets: View user’s tweets. This loads the users 20 most recent tweets.
New springboard icon.
Black UI
Manual “Reload” button on each tab
Smaller font for tweets seems to help with fitting all the text in one box hopefully no more trailing “…”s on tweet texts.
Manually reloading a view will now make sure the view scrolls to the top
Public Timeline renamed to “Everyone” in accordance with Twitter.com changes
Many under the hood core changes.

This game is similar NOIZ2SA (Yep, another shootemup!). The main menu allows you to choose from four different games modes and 10 levels with-in each game mode. Once you select which game mode and level you would like, just two finger tap to enter the game. You can move your little guy at the bottom by dragging it around. The objective of the game is to shoot the “thing” at the top without getting killed. You can two finger tap to set off bombs (they look more like shields to me!). The game play is smooth and the graphics are sweet!

Wiki2Touch is an open source wikipedia server/reader for the Apple iPhone/iPod Touch.
Changes:
Template caching works without any change of rights now for firmware 1.1.3/1.1.4, too. If you’ve not modified anything in the past while using 0.60 together with firmware 1.1.3/1.1.4 you will see the articles now displayed much faster once the template is cached.
Support for #expr/#ifexpr parser functions. Have a look at articles like “2008? (the year 2008). Mainly all the links in the head area are computed by the use these new functions.
Preliminary math support: At least the text from the math-tags is extracted and displayed with a gray background for better readability and the math symbol “Pi” is displayed as the Greek symbol. Nothing else.
More than 30 changes for better rendering support. The changes covering smaller issues like to much spaces or line feeds, correct handling of headlines, reference lists and enumerations, up to the support of sometimes very complex templates (i.e. in the English edition articles like “Al Gore” or “George Washington”. And a bug which crashed the server was also removed. http://code.google.com/p/wiki2touch/

News from our very own Zodttd
So I have been giving myself some time to think of projects I'd like to do next. Here they are in order:
Gameboy / Gameboy Color
DOSBox
Free Heroes of Might and Magic
I have the most requests to do my own version of a GB/GBC emulator port. So I put it on the top of the list. DOSBox lets you play older PC-DOS games, and I have ported this to other platforms in the past. Not to mention I'd like to write some dynarec code to increase its performance still. Free Heroes of Might and Magic looks like a great game and will work well on the iPhone.
What do you think? Should these be the top 3? Is the order right?
Leave some comments here then be sure to join in on the discussion threads in the forums.
Thanks,
ZodTTD

What's better than having a nice leather or cloth iPod sleeve to show off to your friends? If you're thinking one made of imitation meat -- you're dead right! Apparently, a company in Japan is under the impression that you want to wrap your music player in a grade A lookalike, undoubtedly to the thrill of your vegetarian friends and family. Of course, don't just get one for the shock value -- this thing oozes pure, sophisticated style. If you've got Ą6,800 (or about $66) and dignity to spare, it can be all yours.

Today I began work on porting GnuBoy, a Nintendo Gameboy and Gameboy Color emulator that was modified by Little John and Tinnus.
I have now released a beta of gameboy4iphone, the GB/GBC emulator, to beta testers.
Here's what to expect:
- Very fast emulation. Games should run nice and smooth.
- Sound emulation with volume control via a L/R trigger. Sound is still a bit raspy, but working and will improve!
- Same controller skins supporting multitouch as gpSPhone 1.7.0.
- No frameskip or framelimiting yet. Frameskip doesnt seem to be needed, framelimiting might.
- Landscape and portrait mode.
- Save state support.
- SRAM support is implemented but not enabled yet. Use savestates instead at the moment.
- Realtime clock should be working for support of games like Pokemon, though it is untested. (EDIT: Pokemon confirmed working!)
Those who donate and become beta testers of ZodTTD.com will have immediate access to all my betas, including gameboy4iphone. Thanks to all who help shape up these releases.
Can't donate via PayPal? Upload videos of ZodTTD projects to http://video.zodttd.com and PM (private message via the forums) me with the link.
Let me know what you think by commenting here and in the forums!

Here is the test version for Treo owners.
This is a beta only so I'm going to skip straight to the goods, Treo Keyboard should be supported, it works on the 700p and is enabled by default if the device shows up as a Treo. I might have to add the Centro I am not sure it is in the list.
I wouldn't recommend this to new users, check out PalmMAME 021 first.
Now How do you use the keyboard? Well once you launch a game then you open the menu and start assigning whatever you want to the keyboard. The easiest way is with the StatBar. Use the keyboard just like the PC keyboard in MAME. This doesn't affect your keyboard setup in the launcher, you still need that at least in a minimal form, and it is the way you need to access the non letter keys anyway.
So try it out, if it works I'll start putting together the whole package properly.

Be sure to refresh your ZodTTD.com beta repo sources, as gameboy4iphone has been updated to v1.1.0.
Much better sound quality highlights this release!
Here's the changelog:
Changes 1.1.0:
- Fixed performance decreases when scaled on is set. Turning scaling off decreases performance due to hardware scaling usage. Gameplay should be faster than before.
Changes 1.0.0:
- Fixed sound, quality is now nearly perfect.
- [OBSOLETE in v1.1.1] Fixed landscape aspect ratio for scaling.
- Fixed save state files not saving to file correctly.
- Fixed RTC (real time clock), Pokemon should work better now.
- Fixed SRAM (saves on cart) so games now save correctly.
- Fixed some issues with the GUI such as save states not deleting.
- Updated portrait controller skins.
- Hopefully improved performance and compatibility slightly in the process.
This will most likely be the last release before a public version of v1.1.0. Depending on how complete this release is, more betas should follow such as getting framelimiting implemented so things dont run too fast. See ya in the ZodTTD beta testers club!

Nokia are giving away FIFA08 for N-Gage absolutely free to a limited number of people in Europe (we don't know the exact figure but it's in the thousands at least). It's on a first-come-first-served basis, so the quicker you act the more likely you are to get the game free. The most reliable way of getting the game free is to install the FIFA08 demo directly on your phone in the N-Gage application, then go to the special N-Gage Play site (play.n-gage.com) on your computer's browser to get the activation link sent to your N-Gage phone as a text message. When the message arrives, just click on its link to activate the game. UPDATE: If you couldn't get it activated on the mobile site, try again through the PC site!

psx4iphone v0.2.0 seemed to have a large issue with games crashing on boot. It only happened to some users with certain firmwares. It seems firmware upgrades from iClarified use a certain library (libgcc_s.1.dylib) that is not compatible with builds of software made with newer toolchains.
So what does this all mean? Well thanks to some testing from fellow ZodTTD user iLauncher, I have fixed this bug. The bug also lead me to find a better way of compiling my projects, so more performance to come from my software!
psx4iphone v0.3.0 is currently out for beta testers to use. Let me know if games previously working with v0.1.0 that crashed with v0.2.0 now work with v0.3.0. Whew that was a mouthful!
Hopefully some will notice a performance increase as well.

The WeiPhone dev team has released their version of Sudoku. Use http://app.weiphone.com/installer/ as a source in Installer. Parts of the menu are in Chinese but are easily deciphered. The top left gray button below the counter, starts and stops the timer. The gray button to the right of that, turns the counter display on or off. The left green button solves the puzzle and the right green button resets the timer. Numbers are inputted by selecting an empty square with a numbered pad appearing thereafter.

The first time you run ToggleBacklight, it saves your current Backlight level, and sets the level to the minimum.
Each time you run it afterwards, it saves the current level and switches back to the previous level.
This allows you to easily toggle between two backlight levels - set the level you want, run the app, then set the second level you want.
To install, unzip the folder, copy the folder and contents into /Applications on the iPhone, then set executable permissions on the ToggleBacklight executable file itself. http://www.modmyifone.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=123911

Would you like to jot down notes on your iPhone's gorgeous touch screen? Are you missing a way to sketch a simple diagram as a quick reminder? Will your children like to draw on your iPhone, maybe on top of a picture you shoot with the camera? Sketches is a native iPhone application that will allow you to do all that. Scribble your thoughts quickly, select a picture from your photo album to draw notes on top, or shoot a photo of your friend just for the sake of putting a moustache on her face You can even erase your drawing by shaking your iPhone, as if it were an etch-a-sketch! http://sketches.latenitesoft.com/Home.html

We've been avoiding the 3G iPhone rumor mongering as much as possible recently. After all, we know it's coming as both AT&T and Apple have confirmed. Now this: one of Italy's most respected newspapers, La Repubblica (like the WSJ with red sauce), is claiming in no uncertain terms that the 3G iPhone is coming shortly to Telecom Italia without a revenue sharing deal and without long-term exclusivity. If true, this change in strategy opens the doors for a true, global, 3G iPhone launch on UMTS networks around the world come summer time.
We contacted Telecom Italia who refuse to comment on the matter.

If you've somehow managed to hold off from buying an iPod sound system, you can probably afford to gloss right over this one, too. Still, those waiting for one with just a touch more extravagance will likely find lots to love about Goodmans' latest iteration. Aside from boasting a pair of speakers, 3-in-1 multicard reader, LED accents, iPod dock and a bundled remote, this unit also includes an integrated 7-inch LCD display for showing off stored clips, photos, etc. Interestingly, we're left to wonder what the exact resolution here is, but if it's not impressive enough to share, you can probably look forward to lackluster results. We won't stop you from taking a chance though -- it's your Ł89.99 ($178).

Never heard of Cydia? It's a quickly progressing package distribution software that is similar in concept to, but better framework than Installer.app. It's made by Saurik of www.saurik.com. Saurik has helped me greatly in improving my softwares performance by providing me the tools I truly needed for development. His work is top notch.
I have been adding support to Cydia in addition to Installer.app. I currently have everything implemented, and to begin rolling out my Cydia repo, I am announcing an early release of gameboy4iphone v1.5.0 public for Cydia users.
Once you have Cydia installed, simply goto All Packages and goto the "Z" letter down to ZodTTD Repo. Install my repo and refresh the sources. Then goto "Games" and you will see gameboy4iphone there.
gameboy4iphone v1.5.0 is a brand new version, and first to be seen by the public. It is based on a port of GnuBoy done by yoyofr and Tinnus. It is fullspeed, fully featured, and has nice sound too! It even limits its speed to actual Gameboy framerate if going too fast.
I hope to see some new Cydia users, and people enjoying this limited early release. Although it will be on Installer.app in the coming days, those who give things a go are more than welcome to share their feedback in the ZodTTD gameboy4iphone forums.
If you like gameboy4iphone and would like to donate, click here and you will get my current and future betas to test.
Thanks
ZodTTD

As many know, I released gameboy4iphone v1.5.0 to the public yesterday, through my Cydia repo. Well it seems I made a bit of a mistake and it had buggy sound. I think it's fixed now, so I have released a beta of gameboy4iphone v1.7.0 via Installer.app with the following changes:
Fixed a bug made that affected sound quality.
Added a special option to disable framelimiting by pressing VOLUME DOWN + VOLUME UP.
Added a portrait controller skin custom made by thailar for the game DDR.
Assuming this quick but important beta goes well, a Cydia and Installer.app public release will be made shortly.

Changes:
- New unlocker - Static picture with absolute positioning (others have relative).
- Config stored in program folder now.
- A bit more user friendly configurator. Shows order of entered points with letters. Loads previous settings.
- Possibility to unlock device with a special 'panic' key.
- Letters are shown instead of numbers in unlocker screen.
- Option to automatically lock after soft-reset.

Yesterday's question involved how much digital music you currently own—if you took part you may have noticed that the distribution was fairly even, but there are plenty of people out there with seriously large collections. That got me thinking about where all this music is being stored—iPods in particular.
As my own feeble collection has grown, and my desire for better hardware has increased, I have upgraded my iPod a grand total of 3 times. My guess is that figure is probably pretty average (or even low) when compared to a serious music fanatic. So, my question to you is: how many iPods have you owned?

Conspiracy theorists and Mac rumor-mongerers, start your engines. According to an internal O2 memo we've received, stock of both the 8GB iPod touch and iPhone have run their courses, and have been EOL'd (at least in the UK). The brief letter sent out yesterday evening states that, "Due to the highly successful sales of the Apple 8GB I-Phone [sic], supply chain have today run out of stock & will not be replenishing stock of this product as it has now gone to end of life." Whether this is due to the recent price cuts, the rumored upcoming 2nd generation iPhone, or just a sign that Apple is moving towards higher capacity devices is anyone's guess. All we know is that soon the 8GB iPhone -- at least in the UK -- will become as rare and precious as the Pygmy Three-toed Sloth.

In the outside world, we all know the iPod can take a one-man dance party from 0-60 in under 3 songs. But ever wonder what it's like on the inside? The Porta Party adopts its shape from the similarly named Porta Potty, but has the skin of an iPod. Insidethe Porta Party is an iPod dock and disco ball that will also take the one man party from 0-60 in under 3 songs — if you provide the tunes. And when you're finished inhabiting the iPod, it's kind enough NOT to spit you out on the New Jersey Turnpike.

So we've got it on authority that the second-gen iPhone is already well into testing, and numerous units are floating around in super secret pockets. A trusted source got a chance to check one out, here's what we've heard.
The first thing people will notice: the 2nd gen iPhone will be about the same size and shape as the first gen.
It will, of course, have 3G. And proper GPS!
The most noticeable physical difference is back of the phone is no longer metal -- the whole thing is glossy black, from top to bottom. The volume buttons are now chrome.
Because it's got a little less metal to deal with, it doesn't have quite as many angular edges. The battery is (still) not removable.
The phone itself will be slightly thicker than the first gen device.
The headphone jack will no longer be recessed, and will finally be flush with the body.
The device itself uses roughly the same size and resolution screen as the first generation product.
No solid word on battery life or storage capacity.
It could ship (or be introduced) as early as July -- but it's worth noting that none of this is necessarily finalized, and any of it could change between now and its introduction. You really never know with Apple!

The first allegedly-leaked shots of the 3G iPhone arrived earlier this month. Yesterday, Engadget claimed that the iPhone was going to look like this, all black and shiny. Today, what we know for sure is that the thing in the photo is just a protection case available for the current iPhone, confirming Gizmodo's First Rule of Rumors: never trust rumors. While it's logical to assume that 3G will be in the next iPhone, we still have to wait to see if its all-black color, the GPS, or any of the other vague, obvious predictions are true or not. The image, however, was just a photo of a case, now available in Hong Kong.

Skype has released a Java client for mobile phones, compatible with S60 and UIQ devices. While the application looks like a "normal" Skype client known from PC or Windows Mobile, it is not a true VoIP solution as it uses the mobile network (rather than the Internet) to make and receive calls. This means that in addition to your Skype credit, you will also be charged by your network operator for a local call. Call quality is not that great, either, but it's just a beta version so things may get better. To try it yourself, visit http://www.skype.com/m.

Hannu Viitala has been developing Symbian OS ports of Frodo, Commodore 64 emulator, since 2001 or so. This time he has released a S60 3rd Edition version. Now you can enjoy all those great C64 games directly on your mobile phone. If you like the emulator, consider donating some money to the author; in exchange you will receive from him a library enabling sound in the emulator, which is not supported in the free version.

Tetris from Electronic Arts and Block Breaker Deluxe from Gameloft are now available to download via the N-Gage client showroom. The name Tetris will be familiar to most game players, but you can still check out the specifics in our review of the N-Gage implementation of the game. We're not sure the masses will be rushing to download this one, especially with the likes of S-Tris available for free. Block Breaker Deluxe might be a better bet - it is a Breakout clone which was the first new N-Gage game we reviewed.

Immersion, the same folks responsible for adding haptic technology (force feedback from touch panels, pretty much) in a fleet of Nokia handsets, could be looking to do the same with Cupertino's one and only. While VibeTonz isn't specifically mentioned by name, a recent report (which should certainly be filed as a rumor for the time being) is suggesting that bigwigs from both outfits are in ongoing meetings "over licensing and implementation issues of iPhone haptics." Interestingly enough, this news is flowing hot on the heels of Immersion appointing Clent Richardson as president and CEO; if that name rings a bell, he previously spent five years pretty high up the ladder at Apple. Of course, all the signs pointing to yes doesn't mean anything in and of itself, so we'll just twiddle our thumbs a bit longer and hope to have some feedback for 'em soon enough.

The picture is all we have to go on, so what we can tell is this; it looks like an iPhone, but that probably isn't a real touchscreen. Sadly, we doubt it will be making any calls either. You know what they say; if it walks like a duck and it talks like a duck, chances are it is a duck. Well, in light of that information, we can rule out the possibility that it is a duck. I think we can slowly eliminate stuff it isn't in this fashion, eventually we'll get our answer. Alternatively, Eric, if you're reading, drop us a line and let us know what the hell's going on, buddy.

TUAW's tipsters tell it that, based on code found in the latest iPhone SDK beta, Apple's working on an app called iControl to hook up with iTunes libraries. Their guess is that it'll enable your iPhone to connect wirelessly to your iTunes and play back music, videos and podcasts (supposedly on the phone). That's interesting and all, but we're hoping it's more of an actual "controller", as specified in TUAW's headline and image. This way we can use the iPhone as a remote to adjust playback on our iTunes and Apple TVs. This is the one that makes sense to us.

Need more unsubstantiated evidence that the 3G iPhone is near. Good, the Chinese language Commercial Times is quoting sources claiming that Foxconn (aka, Hon Hai) -- the maker of the 1st gen iPhone -- is ramping up 3G iPhone assembly by "the end of May" to ship 3 million units in June. It's expected to produce some 24-25 million units before the product reaches end of life. If those numbers are true then Apple had better be prepared for a proper global launch without those pesky revenue sharing schemes seen holding back world-wide uptake.

PocketCM is a finger friendly contact application for PDA phone, it will allow you to scroll to you list of contacts, call them and edit them. Actually it's the rewrite in native of ContactManager, a .NET version of a finger friendly contact.
Changes:
- New icon for contact with unread SMS or unseen missed call
- Last unread SMS is shown instead of contact number in contact list.
- PocketCM Contact now handle phone call history: contact with new call are sorted first in SMS contact list
- Rewritten code to handle SMS, should use less memory, and be a lot faster
- Faster reading of SMS/phone history, startup time should be better
- Text box now capitalize the first letter
- Adding contact from SMS/phone history now update the contact correctly in the list
- Some tweak in the default theme to make some part more visible, and avoid menu to popup when minimizing
- Performance enhancement

Hi all,
this is just another auto locking program.
The difference is that it uses the Windows Lock and it can be activated:
a. A few seconds after the screen has deemed (Backlight has been reduced due to user inactivity) and/or
b. After the device has waken up.
Also during the above the program can run a specified executable/registered file together with any command line arguments that might be required.
The behavior of this program is driven by the next key/values:
> Key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CSDevCtrl\Options

To install it:
> copy the csdevctrl.exe to a folder
> use the options.reg file included in the zip to create the registry values for your convinient
To run it:
Simply run it and it will spawn at the background as another process
Running the program second time will cause the program to exit (It will show a confirmation window which will close in 3 seconds unless you close it sooner).
To uninstall it, close the process as usual (run it again or kill the process) and delete the file.
Also delete the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CSDevCtrl\Options
As a note, do not rename the csdevctrl.exe as the uninstall depends on this name.
It has been compiled for WM5 so it should run on both WM5/WM6 (i am using a Kaiser with WM6.1)
Have fun
Chris

Too busy to bother with external speakers for your iPod? Still can't shake that fascination with colored blocks after all these decades? Take heart, young buck, as the iPod building block speakers can keep that kid in you alive for a good bit longer -- though we aren't sure the audiophile in you will be too pleased. These non-powered "drivers" get amped after being plugged into an iPod's dock connector (sorry, iPhone users), but curiously enough, they only arrive in a single 2.5- x 1- x .75-inch form, which doesn't exactly fit flush against the last-gen nano. Nevertheless, those giddy about the notion of claiming a few as their own can pick 'em up in yellow, white, red, black, blue and green for $24.99 apiece.

It seemed like it would never happen, but the impossible has occurred: Apple's iPhone is coming to Canada. The news was quietly slipped into telecom giant Rogers' latest earnings report, with the simple statement that the company was "thrilled to announce" a "deal with Apple to bring the iPhone to Canada later this year." Apparently, lips are sealed on all other details, but we'll keep you posted as news gets our way

According to Fortune, AT&T's going to further subsidize the iPhone down as much as $200, making the final retail price a scant $199 with two-year-contract. The rumor is that the $200 bonus will only be available in AT&T stores, not in Apple stores, so people buying and exporting or using it with T-Mobile will be paying the higher price. Current first-gen iPhone users probably won't get this $200 subsidy when upgrading either, unless perhaps they renew for another 2 years.

The "near future" for the impending iPhone data plan for the deaf was apparently four months. Dubbed the Text Accessibility Plan for iPhone, it comes with unlimited text messaging, browsing and email. It's now available for new and current iPhone users for $40 a month, though you've gotta clear an eligibility application to get it.
