Marat Fayzullin has updated his GameBoy/Color emulator VGB-Android.
Quote:
I am starting this week with VGB-Android 3.9.7, a new release of my GameBoy Color, GameBoy Classic, and Super GameBoy emulator:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...id=com.fms.vgb
Beginning with this version, VGB runs on GoogleTV devices upgraded to Android 4.x (Jelly Bean), such as LG G2/G3 TVs. Yes, it runs on a 55" screen, making for a really big GameBoy. You can control VGB with your remote controller, or plug a USB gamepad into the TV.
I have also switched VGB to the OpenSLES native sound API, to minimize the sound latency and improve overall performance. On Android devices, where OpenSLES is not available (Android 2.2), VGB will use the legacy Java API.
People who do not like too much clutter on their screens, will like the new "contour" virtual joystick skin. To enable it, use the "Virtual Joystick Shape" in the Settings.
Finally, I have taken steps to avoid crashes that sometimes happened after you ran a few games and exited back into the File Selector. The crashes were due to Android running out of bitmap memory. They should not happen now, or at least happen much less frequently. There have been several other important bug fixes as well. See below for the complete list.
- VGB now runs on Google TVs updated to Android 4.x (LG G2/G3).
- Now defaulting to OpenSLES native audio, for minimal latency.
- Now recycling bitmaps to prevent Bitmap.nativeCreate() crashes.
- Added new "contour" joystick shape (see "Virtual Joystick Shape" setting).
- Added "Audio Rate" setting, for controlling sampling rate.
- Added "Native Audio" setting, for disabling OpenSLES, if needed.
- No longer requiring touchscreen support from the Android device.
- Fixed slight inconsistencies in replay mechanism.
- Fixed stutter during NetPlay connection process.
- Fixed audio initialization always setting 100ms latency.
- Fixed audio pause/resume when activity pauses or resumes.
- Refactored audio control between Java and native code.

Marat Fayzullin has released another version of its GameBoy Advance emulator VGBA-Android.
Today, I am rolling out fMSX-Android 3.7.6, a new version of my MSX/MSX2 Home Computer emulator:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ms.fmsx.deluxe (full version)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...d=com.fms.fmsx (free version)
Starting with this release, fMSX officially supports GoogleTV devices updated to Android 4.x, such as LG G2/G3 TVs. If you have one of these TVs, you should now be able to play your favorite MSX games on a big screen, using keyboard on your Magic Remote. Plug in a USB joystick for better experience.
Quote:
I have also switched to the OpenSLES native sound API, to reduce latency and make the whole thing faster. Android 2.2 (Frodo) users will continue using the Java sound API, as they do not have OpenSLES.
There have been many other fixes to the fMSX code since the last update. See the following list for complete details:
- fMSX now runs on Google TVs updated to Android 4.x (LG G2/G3).
- Now defaulting to OpenSLES native audio, for minimal latency.
- Now recycling bitmaps to prevent Bitmap.nativeCreate() crashes.
- Added optional grid view to the File Selector.
- Added folder icons to the File Selector.
- Made grid view default on Google TVs.
- Fixed stutter during NetPlay connection process.
- Fixed audio initialization always setting 100ms latency.
- Fixed audio pause/resume when activity pauses or resumes.
- Refactored audio control between Java and native code.

Marat Fayzullin has released another version of its GameBoy Advance emulator VGBA-Android.
Quote:
I have released VGBA-Android 4.2.4, a new version of my GameBoy Advance emulator with GoogleTV support:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...d=com.fms.vgba
Starting with this release, VGBA will work on GoogleTV devices running Android 4.x, such as LG G2/G3 TVs after a recent upgrade. Play on a 55" screen, using your TV remote to control the game, or plug a USB gamepad for better experience. In order to adapt to the wide TV screen, I have added the new grid view mode to the File Selector. Even if you only have a tablet or a phone, you can enable this mode via the menu. On larger tablets, it may work better for you than the default list view.
- VGBA now runs on GoogleTVs updated to Android 4.x (LG G2/G3).
- Added optional grid view to the File Selector, default for GoogleTVs.
- Added extra folder and cartridge icons to the File Selector.
- Removed logging code from record/replay.

Marat Fayzullin has updated his NES emulator iNES-Android.
Quote:
Hello, All!
The iNES-Android 3.8.8, a new version of my Nintendo NES and Famicom emulator, is now available on the Google Play:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...d=com.fms.ines
In this release, I have added proper support for ARM-based GoogleTV devices running Android 4.x, such as newer LG TVs. As TVs have landscape screens, I also had to add a grid-shaped view mode to the File Selector. In fact, the grid view can also be useful on large tablets, so you can always enable it via the menu, even if you do not have a GoogleTV. Implementing these new features required a few fixes to the existing code as well, so get it while it is hot
- iNES now runs on GoogleTVs updated to Android 4.x (LG G2/G3).
- Added optional grid view to the File Selector, default for GoogleTVs.
- Added extra folder and cartridge icons to the File Selector.
- No longer requiring touchscreen support from the Android device.

After an early leak on Microsoft's store, we've finally got the official launch info forNokia's Lumia 1520. The first Windows Phone 8 device with a 6-inch, 1080p displaygoes on sale November 22nd, and costs $200 on contract for AT&T customers. If you're ready to dive into its new three-column start screen, quad-core Snapdragon 800 CPU, 16GB of built-in storage (expandable via microSD and a 32GB edition is coming in the "near future," but you'll still live without the international version's wireless charging) and other high end specs, Microsoft and AT&T are both offering a few specials for pre-orders. The Microsoft store teases $70 worth of app store credit, free flip cover and a free copy of Halo: Spartan Assault, while AT&T's offer packs in $20 of app store credit, the game, and 50GB of cloud storage in AT&T's locker service. The black, red and white versions will be available at launch, with yellow due "later this year."

The Nexus 5 officially launched on Halloween, but its distribution was limited to the Google Play Store -- and it sold out rather quickly. T-Mobile has finally announced its plans on bringing the 16GB version of the device to its virtual and brick-and-mortar stores, with it coming to the former on November 14th and the latter on the 20th. While the device is being sold through Google's channel for $350, it appears that T-Mobile's option will cost an extra $100, with the network offering it for a $42 down payment and $17 per month for 24 months. Granted, $350 is a great deal for so much phone, but if it's a little too much for your blood all in one shot, at least there's an option to pay less up front and shell out a little extra for the next two years. Unfortunately, T-Mobile isn't ready to discuss future plans (if any) to carry the 32GB version, so you'll still have to go through the Play Store if you want the extra storage.

If patience is a learned skill, than fans of PlayJams' GameStick are certainly masters ofthe virtue: the diminutive Android Console has been delayed again. According to a GameStick representative, the Kickstarter backed microconsole's launch (which was supposed to be today, by the way) was pushed back due to production and logistical delays. The new launch day, November 15th, pits the $80 console against thePlayStation 4. GameStick told us that it didn't plan to compete with Sony initially, but didn't want to delay the product any longer than necessary. It's a precarious position, to be sure, but the company seems optimistic. "Hey," the company joked with Engadget, "it's great to have a choice."

In-app purchases could prove to be a nightmare for parents when trying to keep track of what their kids are spending.
Although according to youth research agency Dubit, they actually have a better hold on their digital wallet than expected, with only 17 per cent allowed to make in-app transactions.
Of those 17 per cent, 41 per cent know their parents' app store account details, giving them the possibility to go on a spending spree.
It appears though that we should have more faith in our young ones, as only 2 per cent have ever made a purchase without asking first, and out of 500 children aged six to 12 surveyed, not one has ever spent more than £10 on a single purchase.
In fact the average single purchase price made by a child was £2.07.
Apple’s iOS7 update introduced a number of changes to its kids section of the App Store, including some apps having to ask for parents permission before linking out of the app, and allowing parents to personalise which apps they deem appropriate for their kids.
Ian Douthwaite, CEO of Dubit, commented: “It’s evident from our research that parents have greater control over their child’s in-game spending thant reports would have us believe, and when children do spend, it is in moderation.â€
54 per cent of kids say that their favourite thing to buy in-game is new levels, 45 per cent like to purchase digital cosmetic items such as clothing or furniture to enhance their online identity.
The option to speed up in-game progression, like making crops grow was preferred by 25 per cent.
It is these kind of purchase options, and the occasion high-priced items that receive the biggest criticism, with some games offering single purchases costing up to £69.99. Even though none of the kids asked actually took advantage of these expensive goodies, they are still there and pose a risk to parents and their bank accounts.

That's no tiny moon – it's a Tiny Death Star, the first Star Wars game from Disney since it bought LucasArts in 2012, made in collaboration with Tiny Towerdeveloper NimbleBit. Tiny Death Star is a pixelated Star Wars take on Tiny Tower, with players building their own Death Stars for the dark side of the Force. It's available now, free, for iOS, Android, Windows Phone and Windows 8.
Disney shut down LucasArts as a development studio in April, shifting it to the licensing business. NimbleBit has made its mark in mobile development in recent years, with more than 10 million downloads of Tiny Tower as of 2012. But no matter how you may feel about Disney, LucasArts, Star Wars or NimbleBit, it's clear that Tiny Death Star is pretty darn adorable.
