Android 4.4 aims at budget phones

Google has officially announced Android 4.4, code-named KitKat. The new operating system streamlines some existing Android features and makes it more friendly to budget phones with smaller amounts of memory.
"Until now, some lower-end Android phones couldn't benefit from more recent Android releases due to memory constraints," wrote Google Android boss Sundar Pichai. "With KitKat, we've slimmed down Android's memory footprint by doing things like removing unnecessary background services and reducing the memory consumption of features that you use all the time. RAM (or memory) is one of the most expensive parts of a phone, and now Android can run comfortably on the 512MB of RAM devices that are popular in much of the world, bringing the latest goodies in Android 4.4 within reach for the next billion smartphone users."
The new operating system adds an improved Phone app, buttonless voice recognition for voice search, navigation controls that hide when not in use, and a new caller ID powered by search. In addition, Google is trying to improve Android's work capabilities with direct support for cloud-based storage services, cloud printing, and a redesigned QuickOffice.
Google also announced its next flagship phone, the Nexus 5. The new Nexus phone sports a 5-inch 1920x1080 display powered by a 2.3 GHz Snapdragon processor and 2 GB of RAM. The device is currently available unlocked on Google Play in two models: 16GB for $349 and 32GB for $399. Google says the phone will also be available from Sprint, T-Mobile, Amazon, Best Buy and RadioShack in the future.

Ouya 2.0 launching next year with updated controller

Android-powered microconsole Ouya's second iteration will arrive sometime in 2014.
Speaking with Polygon, founder Julie Uhrman touched on what the hardware company is looking forward to for the console's second year – which includes Ouya 2.0 and a new controller to match.
"Our plan is to have Ouya 2.0 sometime next year,� Uhrman said.
“We haven't finalized the date of that. We're still determining what exactly we want that to be."
Uhrman stressed the focus will be on performance for the original Ouya's successor, which has been criticized by some for being underpowered in comparison to many smartphones.
"For the hardware, we are looking at different chips. We are looking at what type of performance we want."
Ouya is also working on an updated controller, with Uhrman explaining that the company is putting the new peripheral through ceaseless testing based on player feedback.
"[We're taking feedback on] iterating that software, fixing the triggers, fixing the thumbsticks and if that doesn't work, we'll iterate it again and if we decide that's not the right path, we'll change it."
Curiously, when Uhrman was questioned on if there would be any indication on packaging to point out which controllers are updated, she only offered "you wouldn't know until you bought it" – perhaps indicating it could arrive ahead of Ouya's latest console release.

Google Nexus 5 Posts Best Gaming Benchmark Among Android Smartphones

Rumors around the what and when of Google's upcoming Nexus 5 smartphone have been plentiful, and ahead of the supposed release date on Halloween, a benchmark score for the handset has slipped out from Rightware, and it's downright impressive. According to Rightware's Power Board, the Nexus 5 delivered the second-highest Benchmark X gaming score among smartphones, behind only the iPhone 5S, making it the most powerful Android-based handset in the land. The LG-made phone shares a GPU (the Adreno 330) with the third-place Sharp Aquos SHL23 but bested the latter handset with a score of 14.27 to 13.10. A leaked user manual revealed that the Nexus 5 will boast a full HD 4.95-inch display, Snapdragon 800 processor (2.3GHz), 2GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of onboard storage, and 8MP rear-facing and 1.3MP front-facing cameras."

Racers islands races through on ipad

Anuman Interactive announces the release of “Racers Islands�, a new wild racing game available on iPad under the “Microïds Games for All� label. This title will be released shortly on PC and Mac.

The six greatest pilots are about to battle in the Champions’ Tournament to decide upon the Uncontested Master of the Road. Driving the racing car, there are no holds barred to reach the finish line before the other contestants.

In the finest tradition of arcade games providing immediate fun and user-friendly control, "Racers Islands" includes solo or multiplayer battles. Up to four contestants can battle in the online mode managed by Apple’s Game Center. The mechanism is quite simple: the players first pick their vehicle/pilot duo, according to their look and attributes (acceleration, weight, speed…). They can then choose the type of competition they wish: Race, where the goal is to finish first or Arena where the players must survive by destroying opposing vehicles.

In both modes, players dispose of a default shot that reloads over time and whose missiles damage and slow down vehicles that have been hit. They will have to pick up nuts on the track to repair the damage. On the track, all contestants can also collect both offensive (bomb, bath soap…) and defensive (shield…) special bonuses. To win a few important seconds, it is vital to drive on the accelerators spread all over the circuit.

In Championship, Simple Race or Time Trial, contestants will battle on 10 different tracks and in 5 varied battle areas, guaranteeing many hours of fun. So that every player can get their share of challenge, "Racers Islands"offers 4 levels of difficulty to unlock.

In this title, players have to reach specific goals such as, for instance, “touch an opponent three times in a row with a full load missile� or “complete a race without suffering any damage� to unlock successes.

i-Free, announces the release of a new role-playing game with CCG (collectible card game) and PvP (player versus player) elements. Today Evilibrium is already available for free download on the App Store.

Engaged in building up a portfolio of popular mobile games intended for all types of users, i-Free has released a new epic role-playing game in Russia. 'Evilibrium' is notable for its fascinating gameplay, powerful storyline and colorful graphics that deliver the enigmatic atmosphere of the imaginary world of Mystland.

Evilibrium smoothly combines dynamic battles and unique adventures, and the concept of competition between players pushes back the boundaries of the RPG genre. This is why Evilibrium is alluring for both novices and experienced gamers alike.

The storyline is based upon the fight between good and evil, where evil forces have broken loose in Mystland and begun enslaving its inhabitants. As a member of the ancient 'Order of Hunters', the player can free the possessed characters and control them in a fight to restore the balance between good and evil.

The game mechanics are based upon exploration and battles. The player searches for ancient artifacts in dungeons while fighting with hordes of evil beasts. In-game movement processes are adapted for mobile platforms and account for all features of mobile devices. For example, an adventure map is styled as a stained-glass window that consists of several fragments. Tapping these tiles opens up new adventure zones. Each zone may conceal enemy forces or another player's army, chests with artifacts or bonuses — enhancements that can be used only within one adventure.

It takes two parties to initiate a battle, and each of them can count up to 5 characters. While in exploration mode the player may encounter not only NPC forces but also another players' troops. PvP battles influence the player's position in rankings and leagues. Rising from the Bronze League up to the Diamond League, players win their fame in Mystland and soon qualify for exclusive rewards for their positions in the rankings.

The game features more than 50 vivid and amazing characters drawn by the hands of our experienced illustrators. Each character has its own set of individual features and skills that affect its efficiency in battle. Players can assemble their troops in whichever way they choose, combining their strong and weaker points. There are also various options for enhancing your characters within the game.

Character collection and development are one of the most crucial elements of Evilibrium gameplay. Being straightforward and clear even for novices, this feature provides a wide range of possibilities for the application of strategies when assembling a fighting squad. This is what makes the game versatile and invariably interesting.
