Until now, it was particularly difficult to obtain reliable figures on the results of the Android operating system in China. Indeed, there is no 'centralized app store' and most smartphones sold in the country do not use Google services, including activation. In fact, it is very difficult to know the actual results. The search engine Baidu has corrected this by publishing a report on trends in the mobile internet for the 3rd quarter 2013. It appears that there would be now 270 million active users of the Google platform in the country (more than 20% of the total population). Growth would, however, decrease with a small 13% against 55% for the same period last year but up 10% compared to Q2 2013.

Samsung has yet to make an official announcement about the followup to itsGalaxy S Duos. But, if the company's online store in India is any indication, it won't be too long before the second-gen dual-SIM-toting handset becomes available. According to the product page, Samsung's Galaxy S Duos 2 features a 4-inch, 800 x 480 screen, a "fast and powerful" 1.2GHz processor with 768MB RAM, 4GB of internal storage (expandable up to 64GB) and a 1,500mAh battery. The listing also notes that the Duos 2 -- said to be running Android 4.2 -- will be sold for 10,999 Indian rupees, which comes out to a little over 175 bucks in the US.

Talouselämä Magazine met Jolla CEO Tomi Pienimäki and asked a puzzling question. If Jolla truly is compatible with Android devices, is Jolla going to let individual users to install the Sailfish operating system on the Android devices that they already have? Pienimäki answers: 'That is the plan. We are on device business and OS business. It is fairly easy to install the OS on Android devices'. He says that especially in China, changing firmwares is a mainstream thing. About half of the smartphone buyers are upgrading their older or cheaper devices with a better version of Android. Therefore, Jolla's plan is to get some Sailfish installations sneaked in, too

The iPad Air is the most sought-after tech gift this Christmas, with the PlayStation 4 following in second place.
Of the 2,000 adults questioned by VoucherCodes.co.uk, a quarter said that they were hoping to receive a new iPad Air, PS4 or iPhone 5S from Santa, with over half (55 per cent) eager for any sort of tech gift at all.
The PS4’s success looks impressive compared with the placing of its main rival, Microsoft’s Xbox One, which squeezed into the list at number ten. Sony’s console was particularly popular among men, who were on average eight per cent more likely to ask for technology for Christmas than women.
Women were instead found to prefer Apple’s products, with the iPad Air and iPhone 5S joining Amazon’s Kindle as the most-desired devices.
The presence of several tablet devices in the top ten seems to be driven by older consumers – the iPad Air and Kindle Fire HDX the most popular devices for those aged over 55.
The latest iterations of Apple’s tablet and phone offerings may find particular traction, with 23 per cent of respondents hoping to upgrade their technology. Additionally, Tesco’s Hudl tablet appears to have gained popularity due to its low price, with 12 per cent of people seeing it as the best value device on the market.
“With so much new tech on the market at the moment it’s easy to understand why a gadget gift is a priority for so many Brits this Christmas,” commented Anita Naik, consumer editor at www.VoucherCodes.co.uk.

2. PlayStation 4
3. iPhone 5S
4. Basic Kindle

If you've been mulling the latest Apple gizmo but wince at the prices, today could be the day to act. That's because Cupertino's offering UK discounts of up to ÂŁ81 on the latest and greatest iMac or MacBook models and ÂŁ31 off of the iPad Air. Other iPad models are discounted too, and you can score a deal on the iPod Touch or accessories like the Parrot AR drone. As for the US and Canada, gift cards are being handed out in lieu of cash off, including $75 offerings on the iPad Air, $150 for iMacs and MacBooks and $50 for an iPod Touch. As for the rest of the EU, other countries like France and Germany are seeing similar cash discounts to their UK counterparts on the same products. Not everything is on sale, though. For instance, the iPad Mini with Retina display is still full price. Still, if your iProduct trigger finger's been feeling itchy lately, hit the source.

Earlier this month, AT&T began rolling out Android 4.3 to its variant of the Galaxy S 4, only to have it pulled in order to focus on "potential improvements." Here's the good news: the Rethink Possible carrier today started the process of, once again, bringing the Jelly Bean updates to Samsung's flagship smartphone. As a refresher, Android 4.3 brings a lot of improvements and enhancements that make the overall experience an even more pleasant one -- some of which include OpenGL ES 3.0 support, Bluetooth Smart technology and enriched notification access. What's more, AT&T's also releasing an update for the Galaxy Gear that makes it compatible with the GS4, which is great news for folks on the network who own both Samsung devices. Let us know in the comments how these updates are working out for you thus far -- and here's hoping this one is here to stay.

Tablet users are more likely to shop on this Sunday than on any other day in December.
From Black Friday, to Mega Monday and Cyber Monday, to Super Tablet Sunday, where 74 per cent of all mobile purchases are from a tablet, reports Tradedoubler.
Cyber Monday is the first Monday in December, which is the busiest day for Christmas shopping online. Overall online sales on this day last year were 25 per cent higher than on the previous day.
Purchases made via a tablet are actually five per cent higher on Super Tablet Sunday, than Mega Monday, and 35 per cent higher than the fist Saturday in December.
Neil Ranatunga, head of mobile UK and Ireland at Tradedoubler, said: “Tablets are the ultimate device for making those convenient purchases while chilling on the sofa, and Sunday is typically a relaxing day.
“Therefore, retailers must plan and map their advertising strategy against consumers’ purchasing habits to target tablet users over the busy festive cyber period, to optimise their sales opportunities on Super Tablet Sunday as well as Mega Monday.”

November 27th, 2013, 22:57 Posted By: wraggster
Benchmarks are serious business. Buying decisions are often made based on how well a product scores, which is why the press and analysts spend so much time putting new gadgets through their paces. However, benchmarks are only meaningful when there's a level playing field, and when companies try to 'game' the business of benchmarking, it's not only a form of cheating, it also bamboozles potential buyers who (rightfully) assume the numbers are supposed mean something. 3D graphics benchmark software developer Futuremark just 'delisted' a bunch of devices from its 3DMark benchmark results database because it suspects foul play is at hand. Of the devices listed, it appears Samsung and HTC in particular are indirectly being accused of cheating 3DMark for mobile devices. Delisted devices are stripped of their rank and scores. Futuremark didn't elaborate on which specific rule(s) these devices broke, but a look at the company's benchmarking policies reveals that hardware makers aren't allowed to make optimizations specific to 3DMark, nor are platforms allowed to detect the launch of the benchmark executable unless it's needed to enable multi-GPU and/or there's a known conflict that would prevent it from running.
