Super World Karts GP, a 16-bit-style kart racing game from One Legged Seagull, will include a cameo from Tim Burr, the time-traveling lumberjack that stars in another indie game, Fist of Awesome. The news comes from an update onSuper World Karts GP's Kickstarter page, which announced the crossover withFist of Awesome developer I Fight Bears.
The game boasts SNES-like, mode 7-style kart racing, bearing strong resemblance to Nintendo's Super Mario Kart, down to its name. Super World Karts GP is in development for PC, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android and Ouya, and is a part of Ouya's revised Free the Games Fund. As for Tim Burr, the lumberjack-turned-kart racer will be an unlockable character, available to use "once you've gotten a few tournament cups under your belt." Tim Burr joins three other unlockable crossover characters: Dr. Boom from Tuesday Knight Games, Turing from Read Only Memories and Lobodestroyo's Mutt. Read Only Memoriesrecently found success on Kickstarter, and also participated in Ouya's Free the Games Fund.
Super World Karts GP is seeking $16,000 AUS ($14,348.80 USD) by Monday, December 23 on Kickstarter to bring its brand of retro-style kart racing to players, of which the project has currently raised $7,536 AUS ($6758.28 USD).

New controller will support 'advanced' games, which can be found on the Mobile Console app for Galaxy devices.
Samsung has made a resolute attack on the mobile games market with the debut of the Smartphone GamePad, which will look to compete with the likes of theAndroid-enabled MOGA controller.
The South Korean OEM claims the NFC and Bluetooth-connected GamePad will 'enhance the gaming experience of Galaxy devices' and that it's a 'response to the rapidly expanding global mobile gaming market'.
The Mobile Console app, meanwhile, is set to complement the gadget and can be accessed via a dedicated PLAY button or via download from Samsung Apps – a platform the company has been keen to enhance over the year to rival Google Play.
The app allows GamePad users to browse and buy 35 compatible 'advanced console-quality games' at launch, including: Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Asphalt 8: Airborne, Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour, Virtua Tennis Challenge andPrince of Persia: The Shadow and the Flame.
The controller comes with a steel frame and is compatible with devices between four to 6.3-inches, but can also be connected to TVs via HDMI cable or AllShare Screen Mirroring found on the devices.
GamePad will launch in the UK in 'coming weeks' but is available in selected European markets now.
No word on price.

Explosive Vlambeer hit takes small-screen nod as Frogmind's Badland earns iPad Game of the Year
Free-to-play may be the dominant business model on mobile devices, but Apple singled out a pair of premium priced apps for its Game of the Year honors. As revealed through an Editor's Choice Best of 2013 section on iTunes, Vlambeer's Ridiculous Fishing: A Tale of Redemption was named Apple's iPhone Game of the Year, while Frogmind's Badland was named the iPad Game of the Year.
Ridiculous Fishing won praise for "great controls, hugely rewarding challenges, and vibrant retro-style graphics," while Badland was singled out for "haunting visuals and great controls," as well as cooperative play and well-designed challenges.
Ridiculous Fishing currently sells for $3, while Badland commands a $4 price of admission. The emphasis on paid apps extended to the runners-up in both categories as well. Apple's iPad runners-up were Take-Two's XCOM: Enemy Unknown ($20) and Kevin Ng's Impossible Road ($2). As for iPhone, the two runners-up were Simogo's Device 6 ($4) and the only free-to-play game to be honored, EA's Plants vs. Zombies 2.

Square Enix has released the original Tomb Raider on iOS devices.
The classic adventure game is now available to download on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices with iOS 7.0 or later.
Available in English, French and German languages, Tomb Raider is priced at £0.69/$0.99.
First released in 1996, the influential game mixes puzzle, platform and combat elements as it follows the exploits of Lara Croft, an English female archaeologist in search of ancient treasures.
Square Enix rebooted the long-running series earlier this year. The most recent Tomb Raider game tells an origins story in which Lara Croft is a young archaeology graduate on her first expedition. After successfully finding and eventually escaping the lost kingdom of Yamatai, she decides there are many more myths to be explored and resolves to discover the truth behind them.
Despite the critically acclaimed game not meeting sales expectations, Square Enix US and Europe chief executive Phil Rogers announced on August 1 that a next-gen follow-up was "well into development".

UPDATE: As the Smashing Pumpkins foretold, when it comes to 1979, cool kids never have the time. This was the fate of 1979 Revolution's Kickstarter campaign that ended in failure with only $304,741 of its $395K goal met.The good news is developer Ink Stories has launched a new crowdfunding campaign on its own website, 1979revolutiongame.com. "There we can offer new rewards with lower prices - due to lower fees and more options," the developer noted in its latest Kickstarter update. Now the iOS and Android versions of 1979 can be reserved for $10, while the PC and Mac version cost $15. In both cases it's $5 cheaper than it was on Kickstarter.1979 Revolution saw a major push in funding towards the end of its campaign. In its first 22 day it only raised about $92K, but it acquired more than double that in the last 11 days after the game started seeing major exposure in the press.ORIGINAL STORY: Last year former Rockstar developer Navid Khonsari was branded a spy by his native Iran for working on his upcoming game 1979 Revolution. The fact that he can't visit family in his homeland hasn't stopped Khonsari from continuing his work on the project at his New York-based studio Ink Stories, though the game is currently struggling to meet its funding goal on Kickstarter.
With only 11 days left before its 16th December deadline, 1979 Revolution has only acquired $92,590 of its $395,000 goal.If successful, the $395K will fund 1979 Revolution: Episode One: Black Friday, which is named not for the busiest shopping day of the year for Americans, but rather the day the Iranian military opened fire on its protesters in September 1978, paving the way for the revolution to come. The game will be a stealth action/adventure about a photojournalist named Reza who gets involved in an activist group seeking to overthrow the Shah. Things get increasingly dicey as he finds himself thrown under the bus by his ex-cohorts when the new regime comes to power.Khonsari is very concerned with the game's authenticity and the final product will incorporate lots of photographs, stock footage, and leaked audio recordings from the actual events in which it's based around. In fact, the entire art team is Iranian and must remain anonymous for their own safety. While 1979 Revolution is far from its funding goal, Khonsari has recruited some professional talent to the project with the voices of Max Payne and Alan Wake (James McCaffrey and Mathew Poretta, respectively), Homeland's Navid Negahban, Argo's Farshad Farahat, and Tony Award nominee Arian Moayed. If 1979 Revolution meets its funding goal, it should come to iOS, Android, PC and Mac next spring. Backers can reserve either of the mobile versions for $15 or the PC/Mac versions for $20.

The rugged Galaxy S 4 Active had them, and so did the lesser-known Xcover2. But all-physical navigation buttons are becoming rarer on Samsung phones nowadays, and that's why our eyes were drawn to the manufacturer's latest low-end offering, the Galaxy Core Advance. In addition to the obvious trio on the front, the handset also finds room for dedicated camera and voice recorder buttons on the side. Specs-wise, however, we're still in deeply unexciting Galaxy Core territory, with Android 4.2 and TouchWiz running on a 480 x 800 display (now slightly bigger at 4.7 inches), a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of onboard storage (expandable via MicroSD) and Europe-friendly 3G data bands. The phone will be out early next year, although we're not sure exactly where it'll be sold or for how much. What we can say, though, is that Samsung will have to drastically undercut the superior Moto G (which has a 720p display and Android 4.3) if it plans to go up against Motorola in the same markets.

December 17th, 2013, 00:27 Posted By: wraggster
[h=4]FPU support[/h]For the past couple of weeks I have continued working on the WP8 version of my emulator core, and I have also done some enhancements to the Android version and also to rpix86. The most notable enhancement is the addition of floating point support. So far only my emulators running on the MIPS architecture (ds2x86 and zerox86) have emulated the floating point opcodes. The ARM architecture emulators have silently ignored all FPU opcodes. There are some games that need the FPU support, though (like the X-COM series games), so I wanted to finally port the FPU emulation also to my ARM emulators.
I began by implementing the FPU support to the new Windows Phone 8 version. I used a simple test C source file where I added the floating point code that I wanted to implement, and then compiled that C code to ASM code (giving the /Fa parameter to the C compiler). This way I was able to determine the proper floating point calling convention to use, and also the internal names of the Windows runtime helper methods for some routines (conversion between a double and 64-bit integer, for example).
Here is a small example of the C code, for converting a double value to an integer:
double fpu_regs[9];int tst;void ftest64(int idx){ tst = fpu_regs[idx];}This is the ARM ASM code that this C code produces:
|ftest64| PROC movw r3,fpu_regs movt r3,fpu_regs movw r2,tst movt r2,tst add r3,r3,r0,lsl #3 vldr d0,[r3] vcvt.s32.f64 s0,d0 vmov r3,s0 str r3,[r2]|$M4| bx lr ENDP ; |ftest64|I managed to implement all the FPU opcodes for the WP8 version during the previous weekend, and they seem to work at least mostly correct. I haven't yet tested them thoroughly, so there may still be problems. During this weekend I then implemented the same to the Android version (ax86) and also to the rpix86 version. Those have different floating point calling conventions, as Raspberry Pi uses "hard float" and Android by default uses "softfp" calling convention. I am not sure whether my code is yet correct for both of those calling conventions, so I will continue working on that.
[h=4]Unaligned access[/h]A couple of weeks ago I also decided to test what happens if I let my code to use ldr opcodes to load data from memory addresses that are not correctly aligned to 32-bit word boundaries. I have coded all my memory accesses that can be unaligned to use separate ldrb and strb opcodes. This seems rather slow, and since the newer ARM processors since armv6 have the option to allow unaligned memory accesses, I wanted to test whether that actually works. The kernel can decided whether such access is allowed or not, and I wasn't sure whether Windows Phone, Android or Raspbian actually allow this.
I coded some of the most often used opcodes to always use ldr opcode, and somewhat to my suprise, the code worked on all those platforms! Next I changed some more opcodes, and then tested running DOOM timedemo whether the code runs faster or slower. The result was that on both Windows Phone and Android the code executed noticeably faster (DOOM timedemo ran up to 10% faster), but on rpix86 it ran slightly slower. So, it looks like I will by default enable unaligned access on WP8 and Android, but not on rpix86.
[h=4]DOOM benchmark results[/h]Okay, since I was able to get some more speed using unaligned access, and since I have now benchmarked all of my emulators that can run DOOM, I thought it might be a good idea to collect the results in a single table. So, here is the DOOM benchmark result table for all of my emulator versions.
I still have a lot of improvements and compatibility enhancements to do for the Windows Phone 8 version of my emulator. It does run some interesting games already, like for example Grand Prix 2, from which the screen copy below is from. That game can run in SVGA mode, but also mentions Pentium 90 as a recommended system, so I am running it in VGA mode to get a reasonable framerate on my Nokia Lumia 520 phone.

Marat Fayzullin has released another version of its GameBoy Advance emulator VGBA-Android.
Quote:
VGBA-Android 4.3, a new version of my GameBoy Advance emulator released today, comes with major sound quality improvements:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...d=com.fms.vgba
Many users complained about VGBA sound quality in the past. In the new VGBA release, I have switched to a different sound rendering algorithm, finally fixing the delay between direct and melodic audio channels that many Pokemon Fire Red and Leaf Green users had problems with. The problem was not limited to Pokemon, so other affected games will show improvement as well. In addition to fixing the delay issue, the new sound code also removes echo and distortions. A few game-specific audio problems may still occur though.
- Switched to simpler and more precise sound rendering algorithm.
- Fixed lag between wave and melodic channels (Pokemon games, etc).
- Improved overall audio quality a lot.

Marat Fayzullin has updated his GameBoy/Color emulator VGB-Android.
Quote:
This week´s fresh VGB-Android 3.9.12 release is now available from the Google Play:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...id=com.fms.vgb
VGB-Android emulates GameBoy Classic, GameBoy Color, and Super GameBoy on Android phones and tablets. The new version adds customizable color palettes and the ability to choose what GameBoy model you would like to use, including semi-real but cool "Super GameBoy Color".
I have also added the x86 Android support. If you have an Intel-based Android device, or use desktop Android emulator like AndroVM or Genymotion, VGB-Android should now run for you.
- Added "GameBoy Model" screen to the Settings.
- Users can choose between GB, GBP, GBC, and SGB hardware modes.
- Added support for Android devices based on Intel x86 CPUs.
- Now properly building shared library for each architecture.
- Added loading palettes from *.pal files.
- Place default palette into /VGB/VGB.pal in internal storage.
- Place Game.gb game palette into Game.pal.
- Each *.pal file should contain 16 colors in #RRGGBB format, one per line.

You can now buy two Android tablets for the price of a single PS4 controller.
Note, however, that while Sony’s latest joypad is an absolute joy to use, the new £30 UbiSlate 7Ci from DataWind is likely to be somewhat less rewarding.
With just 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage, a single-core 1GHz CPU and an 800x400 screen the device certainly packs what can at best be considered low-end specs.
That the likes of ‘Facebook available’, ‘E-mail available’ and ‘Games Available’ are listed amongst the features is unlikely to inspire confidence either.
The UbiSlate is the latest in an increasingly long line of low-cost Android tabelts such as the decent £120 Tesco Hudl, the questionable £99 Argos My Tablet or the middling £79 Aldi Lifetab.

Smartphone game Doctor Who: Legacy has teamed up with Forbidden Planet to offer free DLC.
Customers at any of Forbidden Planet’s UK stores will on their receipt find a code entitling them to free DLC for the iOS and Android game that will reward them with current companion Clara Oswald complete with her Asylum of Daleks red dress as a usable character.
The game is effectively a Puzzle & Dragons clone that allows users to build a team of recognisable characters from the TV series that are then taken into a gem-matching battle.
The promotion is hanging off the fact that the 11th Doctor Matt Smith will feature in his last episode on Christmas Day, entitled Time of the Doctor.

A free-to-play Family Guygame is coming to iOS and Android devices, GameSpot reports. This is just like that time that ... uh ... somebody did ... something. Look, there's a reason we're not Family Guy writers.
Actually, it's kind of like that time Fox released The Simpsons: Tapped Out. TheFamily Guy game is being developed by TinyCo. and will feature in-app microtransactions which will allow players to "control the speed of their progression." GameSpot describes it as an "adventure/simulation" game, but what there is to simulate in the Family Guy world is a little more questionable. Fighting giant chickens, maybe?
The as-of-yet-unnamed Family Guy game will be (probably) farting and bringing edgy humor to your mobile device sometime in 2014.

Xbox One and PlayStation 4 a bit too bulky for your gaming tastes? Need something a bit smaller? Maybe even micro sized? Good news for you, because Mad Catz's Android-powered MOJO microconsole is now available, which means you can finally say you got your mojo without being accused of hyperbole or referencing a Mike Myers film. Yeah, baby!
The MOJO features an NVIDIA Tegra 4 T40S 1.8GHz Processor and 2GB RAM. We were also aware back in October that the device would be capable of streaming games from a PC, though we weren't given details as to how that would work.
