Kabam released The Hobbit: Kingdoms of Middle-earth mobile game in partnership with Warner Bros, MGM and New Line Cinema last year to coincide with the big screen release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
Since then, the game has grossed almost $100 million as millions of players globally throw themselves into the world of hobbits, elves, dwarves, goblins and magic.
Users have collectively created over one million alliances, built 16 million cities and wage over four million battles daily.
And now ahead of sequel The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug hitting cinemas next week, Kabam has released an expansion pack of the same name for the fantasy title.
The update will allow players to access new armour, weapons and more when facing off against dragon enemy Smaug.
The studio's goal was to allow fans of the franchise to connect with the game from the start. That's why characters including Gandalf, Thorin Oakenshield and Legolas can be found within the intro with all of their likenesses captured in lifelike detail.
The Hobbit: Kingdoms of Middle-earth app is available for free from the App Store and on Google Play.
