Also sports a kickstand for comfortable video viewing when you're not blinding would-be muggers.
iPhones account for 28 per cent of phones stolen every year, which is perhaps what encouraged protective father Scott McPherson to develop the Spraytect phone case, an iPhone cover that projects pepper spray at assailants.
McPherson spent a year developing the product for his daughter as part of a 'nurturing desire for her protection'.
Available in a number of colours (black, white, blue, pink) for the fashion-conscious buyer, the spray ingredients are made from 'a proprietary blend of peppers with one of the hottest, habanero pepper, as the main ingredient'.
Beyond blinding baddies though, the case also sports a 'fantastic bonus' in the form of a kickstand to support comfortable movie viewing.
The cases retail an introductory price of $39.95.

RIM has officially announced its much-hyped BlackBerry 10 OS – formerly known as BBX – will be launched in various countries around the globe on Wednesday, January 30th 2013, with demonstrations on two new smartphones.
It seems the firm may also be making a play for its core business audience, announcing BB10 has FIPS 140-2 certification for government agencies to deploy BB10 smartphones and BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 immediately.
The firm also highlighted that enterprise and business-centric apps are in production.
Thorsten Heins, president and CEO of RIM, said: "In building BlackBerry 10, we set out to create a truly unique mobile computing experience that constantly adapts to your needs.
"Our team has been working tirelessly to bring our customers innovative features combined with a best in class browser, a rich application ecosystem, and cutting-edge multimedia capabilities.
"All of this will be integrated into a user experience – the BlackBerry Flow – that is unlike any smartphone on the market today.
"Thanks to our strong partnerships with global carriers and a growing ecosystem of developers, we believe our customers will have the best experience possible with BlackBerry 10. We are looking forward to getting BlackBerry 10 in the hands of our customers around the world."

As Samsung and Apple continue to exercise their stranglehold on the smartphone market, with both vendors accounting for almost 50 per cent of the market, Sony and HTC appear to have made the most significant inroads in Q3, having overtaken RIM and Nokia.
The smart phone market reached 173.7 million units during the third quarter of this year, growing 44 per cent year-on-year, according to Canalys. And having been absent from the top five for the past six years, Sony has rocketed up the rankings with 8.8 million units to occupy third place behind Apple and market leader Samsung. One of the key reasons for the brand’s resurrection appears to be the release of a host of new product in Q3, including the Xperia GX and SX.
Holding strong in fourth spot is HTC, with just under 5 per cent of the market. The vendor offered up a range of competitive products in Q2, such as the One Series and Desire V, prior to the launch of Apple’s iPhone 5. Pete Cunningham, Principal Analyst, commented: "While going head-to-head with the Samsung Galaxy S3 has been challenging, the vendor has had strong sequential growth in major developing markets, such as China and Indonesia. Q4 is going to be tough for it, along with the majority of Android- and Microsoft-based vendors, and continued investment in brand is of the utmost importance."
RIM stayed in fifth place, while North Asia-based vendors LG, ZTE, Lenovo and Huawei all shipped impressive quantities of their own-brand devices, overtaking Nokia, as the vendor and consumers waited for the October Windows Phone 8 launch.
Asia Pacific accounted for over 53 per cent of the worldwide smart phone market. With China breaking through the 50 million unit barrier this quarter. Samsung held on to its lead in China, despite strong competition from rising local Chinese vendors. Lenovo has moved into second place, assisted by volumes of lower-priced smartphones and a focus on its routes-to-market through distribution.
"When considering actual use of smart phones, however, the markets differ dramatically again, determined by network availability, speed, pricing and localisation. For example, data from the Canalys App Interrogator tool shows that the US market still leads in terms of app downloads and revenue," said Chris Jones, co-founder, vice president and Principal Analyst at Canalys. "For example, the US made up 45 per cent of all Apple iPhone app downloads in September, compared with just 11 per cent in China."
Regarding USA smartphone volumes in Q3, the iPhone 5 increased Apple's share sequentially to 38 per cent, with Samsung making up a quarter of the market. LG and Motorola followed as HTC dropped down the rankings. And, in spite of Sony’s international success, it currently holds less than 0.5 per cent market share in the US in Q3.
RIM held onto fifth place, while North Asia-based vendors LG, ZTE, Lenovo and Huawei all shipped impressive quantities of their own-brand devices. They overtook a struggling Nokia, as the vendor and consumers waited for the October Windows Phone 8 launch.
Asia Pacific accounted for over 53% of the worldwide smart phone market. China has been a powerful driver behind volumes again for many vendors and the market broke through the 50 million unit barrier this quarter. Samsung retained its lead in China, though its share has been under pressure from the rising local Chinese vendors, and remained the same as a year ago at 14%. Lenovo has moved into second place, assisted by volumes of lower-priced smart phones and a focus on its routes-to-market through distribution.
"When considering actual use of smart phones, however, the markets differ dramatically again, determined by network availability, speed, pricing and localization. For example, data from the Canalys App Interrogator tool shows that the US market still leads in terms of app downloads and revenue," said Chris Jones, Canalys co-founder, VP and Principal Analyst. "For example, the US made up 45% of all Apple iPhone app downloads in September, compared with just 11% in China."
For USA smart phone volumes in Q3 the iPhone 5 naturally boosted Apple's share sequentially, to 38%, with Samsung making up a quarter of the market. LG and Motorola came next as HTC slipped down the rankings. And though Sony has had global success, it must rethink its mobility strategy in the US where it held less than 0.5 per cent market share in Q3.

An Apple repairs expert has claimed that Apple is failing to recognise problems with the microphone on the iPhone 4 and 4S.
According to Channel News, Patrick Lee, CEO of the Australian repair firm iExpert, has identified a recurring issue with the top microphone on these devices and says the, despite the same problem being reported around the world, Apple has failed to recognise this ass a hardware issue.
“One of my biggest complaints is the failure of the top microphone. Apple refuses to recognise this problem which is caused by a component failure on the board,” said Lee.
“The problem is only with the top microphone, not the microphone that is used for Skype or video calls. Owners who go to Apple with their faulty smartphones are charged a $179 warranty replacement fee if they are outside of their warranty.”

Apple has paid 20 million Swiss Francs (approximately ÂŁ13 million) to the Swiss railway operator, SBB, after using its iconic clock design without permission.
According to AFP, the design was introduced to the iPad with the iOS 6 update and was immediately met by a complaint from SBB, which has used the design in all its stations since 1944, and which had awarded an exclusive licence to the watch manufacturer, Mondaine.
The payment settles the dispute and will allow Apple to continue using the design.
“Apple shows great taste by choosing this design for their clock on their devices, and now, the owners of Mondaine watches and clocks as well as iPad owners can even enjoy the same distinct design,” commented Mondaine co-owner Andre Bernheim.

It likely won’t be as sleek or fast as a Nexus 7 or Nexus 10, but a new tablet running both Android and Linux is in the works for open source enthusiasts and lovers of low-budget devices. PengPod tablets, made by a company called Peacock Imports, will dual-boot Android 4.0 and a version of Linux with the KDE Plasma Active interface for touch screens. But in order to reserve a tablet for yourself, you'll have to contribute to the company's crowdfunding project on Indiegogo and hope enough money is raised to begin production. 'Our goal is to build a powerful, True Linux Tablet, one free of Google and Android's restrictions, at a reasonable price,' the PengPod IndieGogo page says. 'If you're a Linux fanatic you probably ended up getting an Android phone. Hey, it's Linux right? It'll be open, run all the programs I'm familiar with and let me hack around and have some fun right? Too often, this is not so. That is why we set out to find a way to run real Linux and all the software you really want.'

Skylanders: Lost Islands, a free-to-play resource management game from Activision's mobile division, is out now for iOS devices on the App Store. As the latest in the Skylanders series, Lost Islands has players building their own villages in the land of Mabu while constrained to the standard limitations of similar free-to-play games.
Reduced amounts of resources and energy will encourage players to delve into the game's in-app purchases that will speed up their town's progress. As expected, Skylanders characters are unlockable in the game when using the codes associated with real-life figurines. Skylanders: Battlegrounds is expected to land on iOS in the coming weeks as well, that game being described as a "console-like action RPG."

It's tough to find truly stellar mobile apps, no matter what platform you're running, and that's even truer when delving into categories. Apple has made a gesture towards giving more titles their moment in the sun through a low-key update to the App Store in iTunes and on iOS 6 devices. Jump to at least some categories, such as games or education, and you'll get the same carousels, banners and other promotions that would normally be reserved for the main portal. The shift is a simple one, but it theoretically helps App Store shoppers go beyond the surface -- and developers to reap the rewards.

"In the mid-00s, more and more people started learning about Android, a Linux-based smartphone OS. Open source advocates in particular thought they could be seeing the mobile equivalent of Linux — something you could download, tinker with, and sell. Today, though, the Android market is dominated by Google and the usual suspects in the handset business. The reason nobody's been able to launch an Android empire from the garage is fairly straightforward: the average smartphone is covered by over 250,000 patents.

We've been following the story that Apple was ordered by a UK court to post an apology to Samsung both in newspapers and on Apple's UK website. After originally posting a non-apology and then hiding a real one, Apple finally complied. Now, PJ over at Groklaw reports on the ruling from the UK court itself, which condemns Apple's conduct in this matter. 'Since Apple did not comply with the order in its estimation, adding materials that were not ordered and in addition were "false," the judges ordered Apple to pay Samsung's lawyers' fees on an indemnity basis, and they add some public humiliation.' The judge wrote, 'Finally I should mention the time for compliance. Mr Beloff, on instructions (presumably given with the authority of Apple) told us that "for technical reasons" Apple needed fourteen days to comply. I found that very disturbing: that it was beyond the technical abilities of Apple to make the minor changes required to own website in less time beggared belief. ... I hope that the lack of integrity involved in this incident is entirely atypical of Apple.'"

Last week, EE publicly flipped the switch on its 4G network. Launching LTE in London, Bristol, Birmingham, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield and (parts of) Southampton. EE also plans for an additional five cities before the new year. The new phone network, composed of equal parts T-Mobile and Orange, has other plans -- and they start from ÂŁ21 SIM-only (starting November 9th) while phone packages begin at ÂŁ36 per month. For that, the new network offers its customers 500MB of data, plus unlimited calls and texts.
The data plans scale up from there, all the way up to 8GB of monthly data, alongside a system of on-off data bundles. So being an earlier adopter comes at a very specific cost -- are the wonders of a next-generation network worth it? We inserted a fresh EE 4G SIM into an iPhone 5 and now have been using it for over a week, get our full verdict after the break.

iTomb will allow loved ones to swipe away the tears and relive happy memories on an embedded Apple tablet.
We've covered eerie mobile concepts before, what with former App Of The Day: iFuneral acting as something of a digital will that enables users to plan their wake.
Now, The Sun reports that 64-year-old stonemason, Ken Howe, has developed the iTomb.
The tech-riddled gravestone sports an embedded iPad that runs on solar power, enabling loved ones to post photos and other media from the burial site.
What about rain and unsavoury characters? Well, the iTomb comes with a protective cover to fight off bad weather and crooks.
iPads cost up to ÂŁ659, while the stone will set you back ÂŁ900 quid. Of course, buyers could always look to reduce costs by buying a ÂŁ269 iPad mini.
Howe made the iTomb in ten days for a charity and said: "People are asking for more creative headstones. With a bit of tinkering it could become a viable headstone very easily."

Apple’s iPhone 4S falls behind the S3 for the first time ever.
For the first time ever, Samsung’s Galaxy S3 has overtaken the Apple iPhone 4S to become the world’s biggest selling smartphone in the third quarter of 2012, according to Strategy Analytics.
The figures show that during the third quarter of 2012, the Samsung Galaxy S3 shifted 18 million units, while Apple recorded 16.2 million sales of its iPhone 4S.
Neil Shah, senior analyst at Strategy Analytics, said, "Samsung's Galaxy S3 smartphone model shipped 18.0 million units worldwide during the third quarter of 2012. The Galaxy S3 captured an impressive 11 per cent share of all smartphones shipped globally and it has become the world's best-selling smartphone model for the first time ever.
He continued: “A large touchscreen design, extensive distribution across dozens of countries, and generous operator subsidies have been among the main causes of the Galaxy S3's success. Apple shipped an estimated 16.2 million iPhone 4S units worldwide for second place, as consumers temporarily held off purchases in anticipation of a widely expected iPhone 5 upgrade at the end of the quarter."
Having fallen behind the Samsung Galaxy S3 for the first time ever, the recent findings follow news of iPhone ownership loyalty also dropping for the first time.

The manufacturer behind Apple's flagship device has revealed it is experiencing 'design related difficulties' producing the new iPhone.
As a result, stock of the iPhone has become severely delayed with some customers having to wait up to three weeks before receiving the device.
Foxconn chairman, Terry Gou, addressed the production issues this week, stating: "Market demand is very strong, but we just can't really fulfil Apple's requests."
"It's not easy to make the iPhones. We are falling short of meeting the huge demand," Gou continued.
These are not the first issues surrounding Foxconn's iPhone production to be made public, as delays have also been attributed to quality control issues over design defects and scratches, whilst protests and riots amongst the firm's 1.3 million workers have limited production even further.
However, despite looming supply issues, analysts have predicted that Apple can expect to sell around 46.5 million iPhone 5 devices during Q4 2012 and across the Christmas period.
The iPhone 5 has seen universal success as the new device sold over five million units in just its first weekend, which significantly outperformed both the 4 and 4S devices.
Foxconn recently revealed that it was considering expansion into the USA, eyeing-up cities such as Detroit and Los Angeles as potential manufacturing sites, however, given the complexity of the iPhone 5 production, it's believed that these new plants would only manufacture LCD televisions.
