Apple has paid 20 million Swiss Francs (approximately £13 million) to the Swiss railway operator, SBB, after using its iconic clock design without permission.
According to AFP, the design was introduced to the iPad with the iOS 6 update and was immediately met by a complaint from SBB, which has used the design in all its stations since 1944, and which had awarded an exclusive licence to the watch manufacturer, Mondaine.
The payment settles the dispute and will allow Apple to continue using the design.
“Apple shows great taste by choosing this design for their clock on their devices, and now, the owners of Mondaine watches and clocks as well as iPad owners can even enjoy the same distinct design,” commented Mondaine co-owner Andre Bernheim.
