Google often takes its time bringing its Nexus variety of tablets and smartphones across the Pacific, but it's getting faster. Today, it announced that the refreshed Nexus 7 (with a new 1,900 x 1,200 resolution screen and 5MP camera) will land in Japan on Wednesday 28th August. The 16GB model is priced up at 27,800 yen, while double the storage will cost 33,800 yen.
For Japanese readers hoping for that LTE model, there's news on that front too. It'll arrive SIM-unlocked in the middle of September, the 32GB LTE model will cost just shy of 40,000 yen, notably off-contract -- Google says it'll work on all three of Japan's major carriers (DoCoMo, Softbank and KDDI's au). Barring the original 7-inch tablet, Nexus models have typically been in short supply in Japan; the Nexus 4 is yet to visit the Land of the Rising Sun.

Nokia's rumored Windows RT tablet is supposedly nearing launch, and The Vergeclaims to have more details of the slate beyond those tidbits that surfaced at Digi-Wolast month. Nicknamed Sirius, the finished design is believed to resemble a Lumia phone and weigh significantly less than the current iPad. Despite packing a Snapdragon 800, an outdoor-ready 1080p screen and LTE, the tablet would last a healthy 10 hours on battery. It would also include both 6-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front cameras, and Nokia may complement the previously mentioned 32GB of storage with a microSD card slot. Pricing would be competitive with the iPad, according to tipsters. While there's no way to verify the new rumors, the Sirius may launch at a September 26th event; if it's real, we'll find out soon enough.

Is the next generation of smartphone the previous generation of phone - Or has it just gone completely mad?
The electronics company seems to be suffering from a case of nostalgia, as it unveils the new Galaxy Golden smartphone cross retro flip-phone.
Maybe the technological jump forward with the announcement of Samsung's smartwatch has spurred it on to take a few steps back, develop something a little more modest, and admire what it has achieved.
The device - which follows the release of the Samsung developed Chinese flip-phone, Hennessy - runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and contains two back-to-back 3.7-inch screens. This allows the user to access the smartphone screen when the phone is open and closed.
The software differs from that of the actual Galaxy range, with a 1.7GHz processor, 8-megapixel camera and LTE support.
Samsung has currently only released the Galaxy Golden in South Korea, selling at 790,000 won - and it unfortunately looks as though that is where it will be staying. Pity, it would be nice to take a step down mobile-memory-lane.

Larger mobile spend is seen on a tablet than on a smartphone.
Only 23 per cent of Europeans would choose an iPhone over an Android device, which was more desired by 88 per cent of people asked, reports Adobe.
Results gathered from 3,000 people at the 2013 Mobile Consumer Survey showed that 80 per cent of tablet use happens in the home, most likely being the reason thatmore mobile spending is seen on tablet than on a smartphone.
Consumers reported that they spend a longer time on their tablet in one sitting, with 26 per cent using the device between one and four hours a day, and 7 per cent five or more hours.
The primary device for 77 per cent of people who own both a phone and tablet is the smartphone, however tablets are increasingly becoming the chosen gadget which is up from 12 per cent last year to 23 per cent this year.
I looks as though there is room for improvement in mobile sites and apps as 60 per cent reckon their mobile experience is average, and 40 per cent saying that they are neutral or not satisfied.
It looks as though developers in the mobile industry will need to pick their game up if they want to impress the audience - how they'll do that, we don't know. But no doubt someone will pull something out of the bag!

An alternative version is available containing privacy concerns.
Windows Phone users have no doubt been gagging for Instagram to be introduced onto the platform, however prayers have not been answered completely as of yet.
An unofficial Instagram style app has become available for the device.
The app, 6tag - which includes a number features similar, if not the same as those found on the original, including filters and sharing capabilities for Facebook - has raised some serious privacy concerns.
Data from users of the bogus photo sharing platform doesn't appear to be encrypted, and details such as usernames and authentication tokens are being sent back to its home server in France.
It is a surprise that Instagram has let this slide for so long, as it recently updated its 'Instagram Brand Guidelines' policy to restrict connected apps from featuring the word 'Insta' or 'Gram' in their names.
Although 6tag haven't ripped off any part of the name, this is surely still a breach of at least one of the insta-rules… (oops!)
Plus, not only is this a violation of one of Windows Phone App Certification Policies, but Facebook could pull integration at anytime, most likely flagging users of the software as well.
Other developers have raised these concerns to Microsoft resulting in it reaching out to developer, Rudy Huyn and saying that it will update accordingly.
It also reported that it has an Instagram app ready - however it is unclear when it will be available.

When we spotted this photo on French blog NoWhereElse, we were close to dismissing this as just a bunch of iPhone 5C knock-offs (the shanzhai industry works very fast), just as the site also speculates. But after digging around the original poster's Sina Weibo profile, we deduced that this spy shot came straight out of Pegatron's Shanghai plant, which matches what we've read in the recent China Labor Watch report on Apple.
According to her posts, the cheeky employee -- or more likely an ex-employee at this point -- in question joined the company's quality control department around mid-July. In an earlier comment, she also hinted that her plant is responsible for the latest Mac mini as well. The above photo was published yesterday, and it only came with the following caption:"The low-end iPhone 5C to be launched for Chinese consumers in September doesn't look much different than the Xiaomi Phone 2, right?"
While it doesn't explain what's going on in the image, this appears to be a warm-up procedure (likely just with small batches for quality control) to make sure the devices are fully functional before they are boxed up. We've seen this in factory tours before, but no photography was allowed in the production lines; which makes us wonder how this shot came out of a supposedly well-guarded environment. September couldn't come any quicker for leaky Apple.

The latest Android 4.3 updates brought a slate of unfortunate software bugs to the party and to Google's own Nexus devices, ironically enough. Thankfully, the Mountain View crew is hard at work patching things up, as evidenced by the Nexus 7 update earlier today that resolved its multi-touch and GPS issues. Now those fixes are up onAOSP as well, not only with the aforementioned JSS15Q build for the 7-inch tablet, but also the JWR66Y for the rest of the recent Nexus clan. The reasoning behind having two fixes instead of one was the addition of an extra bit of code unique to the Nexus 7; they'll be incorporated into one patch as soon as the devs work out the kinks. Aside from patching those aforementioned bugs, the update resolved a clipboard crash issue, tweaked App Opps permissions and fixed a few extra bits of errata. If you're not afraid of a bit of tinkering, head on over to the source to update your Nexus hardware now, or just wait for Google to release Android 4.3.1.

Considering that Korea's warring giants don't get along too well, it's amusing to see LG offering a Samsung-made tablet on LG U+, the latter's domestic cellular network. The "Homeboy" is a re-branded Galaxy Tab 3 that plugs into U+'s services, including TV channels, music, video, e-book and educational software stores, oh, and it'll double as a GPS while on the go. Leave the unit at home, however, and it'll also guard the property, texting you if it senses an unwanted intruder -- and is, according to the company's Kang Hyun-ku, the first step in LG's new connected home platform. That said, given that it's nearly a nailed-on certainty that we're going to see LG's return to the tablet game in short order, we don't expect the amusingly-titled slate to remain the favorite son in a couple of months.
