Epic's sword-swinging, magic-casting first-person dueling series could be seeing a third installment, according to a LinkedIn resume by a staffer at franchise developer Chair.Infinity Blade 2.
As spotted by internet sleuth Superannuation in his Kotaku column, the Chair senior QA tester noted that he's working on "Infinity Blade 3 for the iPhone."This should come as a surprise to no one, as Epic previously noted that the series had earned more than $30 million in the year after the first game launched, making it the publisher's most profitable franchise in terms of man years invested versus revenue. The series was set to make a return in the Unreal Engine 3 dungeon crawler Infinity Blade: Dungeons, but Epic then shut down its developer, Impossible Games, and cancelled the game.Chair wasn't working on Dungeons and had little to say about that game's demise, but studio chief Donald Mustard said the developer had plans to make more games in the Infinity Blade franchise. "There's more we at Chair are totally planning to do in the Infinity Blade universe," he said. "More games, more books, maybe even other products. And we are very excited about that."We've reached out to Epic for a comment on this leak and will update if we find out more.

Word of the HTC One Max first surfaced in a leaked document from UK carrier O2, but now the phone seems to be making an appearance in the flesh. Taiwanese siteePrice has gotten its collective mitts on two photos of what's claimed to be the retooled flagship, which boasts a 5.9-inch 1080p display. Differences in the hardware don't exactly jump out at first blush, but the relative distance between the lower speaker grill and its buttons hint at a larger screen. While the One Mini's grate doesn't extend as far as the full-sized smartphone's, the grill on this jumbo device stretches past that of both handsets.Though this model also sports traditional China-specific tweaks such as dual SIM slots, the most notable changes include an upgrade to a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processor and a 3,200mAh battery. ePrice says an official One Max appearance is rumored for next month at IFA, but we'll keep our eyes peeled for invitations to specialunveiling events.

The last time Google visited Jelly Bean's user saturation numbers, it took the combined efforts of 4.1 and 4.2 to edge out Gingerbread's (v2.3.3 through 2.3.7) hold on the user base. Not anymore; the latest numbers from the Android Dashboard show the base version of Jelly Bean, Android 4.1, representing 34 percent of the active devices -- singlehandedly surpassing the old guard's 33 percent share of the market. When combined with the rest of the Jelly Bean contingent (Android 4.2 and above), Google's latest flavor of Android crushes Gingerbread with a 40.5 percent majority.
Froyo (v2.2), Eclair (v2.1) and Ice Cream Sandwich (v4.0.3 through 4.0.4) all took modest hits as well, though the latter of the trio retained its third-place position with 22.5 percent of active users. The only builds to hold steady? Honeycomb (v3.2) and Donut (v1.6), each retaining a miniscule 0.1 percent of the market. We'll admit, it's cute to see these old versions hang on, but please -- if you're still rocking a handset running Android 1.6, do us all a favor and turn it off.

Those canny folks at Tinhte may have revealed yet another previously unknown handset, this time from BlackBerry. A leaked image appears to show a Porsche Design version of the Z10, packing what looks like a carbon fiber shell and other touches from the design house. Tinhte says the device would also run a custom version of BlackBerry 10 and cost $2,000 or more, while N4BB claims it'll be called the P'9982 (punctuation and all). Though the pictures look convincing enough, information about the naming, OS and price is purely speculative -- you might need an entire salt shaker to swallow it whole. Check the images for yourself at the source.

In a decisive move in the legal battle surrounding Apple's fishy e-book pricing practices, the US Department of Justice has issued a proposed remedy aimed at leveling the playing field. The terms of the proposal, which requires approval by the court, call for an end to Apple's deals with major publishing houses, as well as allowing rival e-book apps, like Amazon's, to link to their own online bookstores. The announcement is hardly surprising, considering that it comes just a few weeks after US District Judge Denise Cote ruled that Apple had conspired to bump up the retail prices of e-books. In the official brief, Assistant Attorney General Bill Baer said, "Under the department's proposed order, Apple's illegal conduct will cease and Apple and its senior executives will be prevented from conspiring to thwart competition in the future." You can read the release in full after the break.
Update: Apple has formally responded to the Department of Justice's proposal and predictably, the company isn't happy. In a filing with the United States District Court, Apple said, "Plaintiffs' proposed injunction is a draconian and punitive intrusion into Apple's business, wildly out of proportion to any adjudicated wrongdoing or potential harm." Apple also disputed the DOJ's assertion that its plan is intended to foster healthy competition, arguing that the "overreaching proposal would establish a vague new compliance regime -- applicable only to Apple -- with intrusive oversight lasting for ten years, going far beyond the legal issues in this case, injuring competition and consumers, and violating basic principles of fairness and due process." While the tides seem to be turning against Apple as the case moves forward, Cupertino is evidently not going down without a fight.

Here is it: the Galaxy S4 Mini... for Verizon? As of now, Samsung's smaller Galaxy S4 sibling is an international-only device; in other words, no US carriers have officially signed on to offer it. That said, a Samsung SCH-i435 recently made its way into the Bluetooth SIG's website, and those who follow VZW's classifications of Samsung products are all-too-familiar with the "SCH" prefix. Of course, a handful of leaked photos can't confirm a release date nor a price, but if it's already popping up with that label on the rear, surely the wait won't be much longer. Hop on past the break for a side-by-side shot with an iPhone 5.

If you were wondering just how long it would take the Google Play Editions of the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S 4 to get Android 4.3, we can now tell you: not long at all. Owners of both devices report that they're receiving over-the-air updates to the new OS. There isn't yet word of any GPE-specific additions, but we'll let you know if there are surprises in store.
Update: AnandTech has noticed a few GPE-specific changes. Most home screen icons appear larger, infrared now works on the HTC One, and Bluetooth-based internet tethering is now an option for the Galaxy S 4.

Many rumors surrounding BlackBerry's first big smartphone, the Aristo, have only made references to an A10 model number. However, we're now learning that even the A10 badge may just be a codename. CrackBerry forum member ofutur has foundreferences in pre-release BlackBerry 10.2 code that relabel the phone as the Z30, andCrackBerry editor Bla1ze has uncovered associated tutorial resources that tie images of the device back to the Z30. There's no guarantee that this is the final name, but it's consistent with BlackBerry's use of letters to signify form factors -- the touch-only Z30 could complement the Z10 while leaving room for in-between devices. Let's hope that the company doesn't leave us waiting long for an official answer.

Samsung may have already spoiled the Galaxy Folder's upcoming launch, but it hasn't given us a peek at a real, live device. Contributors to Clien.net's forums claim to have what we're missing, however -- they've posted a trio of photos that appear to reveal the dual-screen Android clamshell in earnest. In line with the schematics we saw earlier, the Galaxy Folder should be an evolution of the W2013 from last fall. Its most visible change is an update to Galaxy S 4-era software. Other new external elements amount to subtle tweaks, such as the gold-like side trim and a camera key that replaces the W2013's dual-SIM button. Not that we'd accuse Samsung of playing it safe with the Galaxy Folder -- in a conservative handset market, it could be daring to produce an LTE-equipped Android flip phone in the first place.

New photos have emerged allegedly showing the silver casing of the next-gen iPad Mini.
The pictures come from FanaticFone and show the case with an embadded black Apple logo rather than the usual printed mirrored logo that features on previous iPad models.
Apart from the new look logo, the leaked photos show the typical features such as the lightning port, rear camera and speakers.
Apple's iPad Mini 2 is rumoured to feature a 2048x1536 display, a more powerful dual core A7 processor, and a ten-hour battery life.
The iPad Mini 2 is expected to launch sometime in September, along with the iPad 5, next-gen iPhone (which is likely to be called either the iPhone 6 or iPhone 5S), and a budget iPhone that many believe will come in a variety of colours (some are also convinced that the budget iPhone will actually be called the iPhone 5S).

You might be wondering why the U.S. Public Broadcasting Service doesn't have a compelling Android footprint. I was wondering too;until they provided the answer. They say, 'Simply put, it’s too complicated for us to even consider an Android app for the first version; we’ll continue to support those viewers with mobile web. ... As we’re focused on the tablet for this project, we’re only designing for the larger screen sizes. But even there, there are a wide range of sizes and aspect ratios. It’s possible to build flexible sizing for these screen layouts, just as we do for the range of desktop web screen sizes. But the flip side to these wide variations is that in a touch experience, ergonomics plays an important role in the design. Navigational elements need to be within easy reach of the edges of the screens since people often are holding their tablets. If the experience is not fine-tuned to each variation the experience would suffer.' They also cite fragmentation. I'm left wondering whether they didn't find support for various screen sizes on Android developer website. Their budget is undoubtedly limited; are their concerns legit? What companies and organizations have developed Android applications that are good to work with on various screen sizes?"

Too busy accessing social media and snapping selfies instead of their location.
Lastminute.com has found that 90 per cent of British holidaymakers spend up to four hours a day – over a day in a one week holiday – using mobile devices.
Forget the excursions and the majestic natural beauty on offer in many locations, 48 per cent of travellers use their gadgets to keep occupied and 31 per cent make real-time social media updates.
You know the type; "Had an amazing time at the pyramids today, I love my baby" and "OMG, the kids loved meeting Mickey Mouse just now, gonna get some burgers for lunch next."
Self-portraits are also all the rage as 28 per cent of Brits take selfies, spiking to 30 per cent for women and 25 per cent of men.
27 per cent now refuse to stay at a hotel that doesn't offer free wi-fi, and 40 per cent would rather start in a two or three star hotel with free internet ahead of a five star hotel without it.
The need to be connected is so important that 30 per cent opt for restaurants and bars with wi-fi ahead of those that don't supply web access, and 14 per cent buy a foreign SIM-card on holiday to use the internet on the go.
Mark Maddock, MD of lastminute.com UK and Ireland, said: "Whether it’s a good distraction or not, the reality is our customers are now always connected – and they want this to continue seamlessly when they are abroad.
"We are finding with our hotel partners it is no longer enough to offer guests free wi-fi, it is also about the quality and speed of the internet connection. We have connected travel with technology since 1998 but would be the first to say to customers – don’t forget to switch off when you are on holiday and open your eyes to where you are in the world."

The Apple iWatch has been the subject of the level of mass internet speculation usually reserved for alien conspiracy theories. And other unannounced Apple products of course.
Wearable tech was undoubtedly one of the major trends of 2012 – from sports watches that measure how long you’ve been spluttering along on your job, to ever tit-bits of info on Google Glass, which feels like it’s been in development since around the time of the industrial revolution.
Along this theme, we’ve seen a lot of the big tech firms,Sony, Tom Tom, Samsung releasing or talking about come out with smartwatches – watches that can hook up to your phone or just generally do smart computer things from your wrist.
As with most things in the tech world, Apple’s involvement in this burgeoning sector has caused the most interest from slavering gadget fans around the world. Behind the iPhone 6 and iPhone 5s, the iWatch is one of the most hotly anticipated gadgets out there.
Apple iWatch – Apple hiring staff?
Various reports have bubbled up implying Apple has hired a large batch of engineering, marketing and design bods for the development of the iWatch, or some form of wrist based computing device (which as a phrase doesn’t have quite the same zing to it).
Apparently Apple has registered the iWatch trademark in Russia and Japan – but may have difficulty in Europe and the US where some lucky party already owns the term. While this has been reported as some sort of barrier to Apple releasing such a product in these territories, it seems just as likely Apple could make the holder in question very rich buy buying it off them.
Apple iWatch, Siri and iCloud
Existing Apple technologies such as voice control system Siri and iCloud cloud storing service would seem to lend themselves vey well to a watch concept.
Siri control would at least partially solve the problem of not being able to have a decent size keyboard on your wrist – and more importantly will give you the look of Dick Tracy barking into his fictional device.
Pulling down info from the cloud as opposed to strapping a whopping great storage device to the end of your arm hands obvious benefits for design. You’re more likely to have a nice svelte design if you don’t have to worry about squeezing an SSD drive into it – and we know how Apple like nice svelte designs.
It has been pointed out that the iPod Nano with a wrist strap is also a pretty good template for a watch design Apple might come out with anyway.
Apple iWatch Specs and design
A curved glass screen has been widely touted as a possible design for the iWatch – with Corning’s development of ultra thin, bendable glass cited as an enabling component of this.
In terms of hardware, it’s tough to speculate – though as cited above it would seem to make sense if it pulled things from the cloud, given physical space constraints.
Many smartwatches on the market already – like the Italian made I’m Watch rely more on pulling mini updates from a synched phone.
If any details on this aspect do exist, then they are under incredibly strict lock down even by Apple standards – so speculation on that front can only usefully go so far.

Motorola, which is now owned by Google, has unveiled its Moto X smartphone, which is always listening for voice commands.
The Moto X is the first device to have been designed from scratch since Google acquired Motorola last year. It is also the first smartphone to be manufactured in the US and will offer customers extensive customisation options.
Those wanting to buy the phone can customise it through the Moto Maker online studio, where they will be able to choose which colour scheme they’d like and decide on various other details.
Motorola boasts that the Moto X will offer 24 hours of battery life, despite the microphone permanently listening for its user to say ‘OK Google Now’, which will cause the smartphone to start searching the web.
Along with the ‘always-on’ rumours turning out to be true, the Moto X also features the function to access the camera by flicking your wrist – another popular rumour that was making the rounds before the device's launch.
Other standard specs include a 4.7-inch 1280x720 AMOLED screen, 2GB of RAM, 10MP rear camera, 2MP front camera, Android 4.3 and no removable storage.
The Moto X will be release in the US, Canada and Latin America sometime late August/early September, costing $199 (£130). There is currently no news about a UK release date.

Earlier this month, there was a rumor that Apple was facing possible delays with its next-gen iPad mini due to supplier issues with an (also rumored) next generation Retina display. Now WSJ is reporting that Apple may have gotten around the problem thanks to, of all companies, Samsung. The ubiquitous "people familiar with the matter" told the journal that Cupertino originally wanted to be supplied solely by LG Display and Sharp for the high res screens (likely to be the same 7.9 inches as the current model). However, to ensure enough supply, Apple has reportedly been forced to resort to Samsung's display division for the next iPad mini, too. It bears noting that such supplier leaks are often unreliable, and as we've mentioned before, Apple frequently tests components before deciding on a final design. If true, though, it would show that despite its best efforts, Apple can't make a clean break from its frequent sparring partner.

It feels like yesterday we were discussing the alleged death of form factor diversity in the smartphone world, and now Samsung comes up with this: a mid-range clamshell called the Galaxy Folder (SHV-E400K) with displays on both sides of the lid. According to Japanese site RBMen, which discovered a Korean-language user manual for the device on Samsung's website, at least one of the displays is a 3.7-inch AMOLED panel with 800 x 480 resolution. Other specs include a Snapdragon 400 dual-core chip, 2GB of RAM and LTE support. The basic design is nothing new to Samsung, which came out with the similar SCH-W2013 in China last year, and the SCH-W999 a year before that, but it's good to see evidence of its survival in 2013 -- and especially if it's destined for Samsung's home market. If it was up to us though, we'd put some e-ink in that second display.
