Apple surely loves its third-party app developers, but it doesn't love them equally. The company reserves special affection for those who optimize their apps for the latest version of iOS and its integrated services (Passbook, Game Center, Maps etc.), and we guess that's why the official iOS Dev Center has published the chart above. Based on two weeks' worth of recent data, it shows that 93 percent of iOS users who visited the App Store were on iOS 6, while just one in a hundred were on something lower than iOS 5, implying that fragmentation isn't something for devs to fret over. Of course, asAppleinsider points out, Cupertino may have had other reasons for choosing this specific style of presentation, since it begs to be compared against Android's fortnightly pie chart (shown below).

Contract-averse consumers itching for an iPhone 5 fix and wary of T-Mobile's brave new ways can now look to Virgin Mobile. The prepaid carrier has just announced plans to bring Apple's aluminum-bodied smartphone to its lineup starting next Friday, June 28th. The iOS device will be paired with Virgin's Beyond Talk plans, netting subs unlimited data (3G / 4G LTE) and messaging for $35 per month on the base tier. Only the 16GB model will be sold online and in-store for $550, so if you're in the market for larger storage, you'll have to head to the carrier's site where the 32GB and 64GB units -- priced at $650 and $750, respectively -- will be available. If you're tempted to go all in and plunk down the cash, just keep in mind, there's another better, potentially bigger and definitely 'S'-ier iPhone waiting just around the corner.

Loyal Engadget readers know that we don't normally trouble ourselves with promotions, but this one is too wild to ignore. Until June 30th, RadioShack is offering the HTC One to AT&T and Sprint customers with an added bonus -- a $100 credit for the Google Play store. Should you elect to sign up with Sprint, you'll basically get away like a bandit since RadioShack has slashed the price of the handset to $79.99 for new activations -- on two-year contracts, of course. After all is said and done, you would basically leave $20 richer than when you started (sort of). So, if you've been lusting after the HTC One but have held off on buying it, the universe might be trying to tell you something.

While brief sales on iPhones are relatively common, it's rare to see permanent price drops outside of a hardware refresh cycle. Walmart is willing to give those cuts a shot, however. Visit the company's stores from this point onward and you can pick up the 16GB iPhone 4S in its AT&T, Sprint or Verizon forms at $39 on contract, instead of $90. The 16GB iPhone 5 for those same networks is dropping to $129 from its usual $190; sorry, T-Mobile fans, you're out of the loop for now. It's not hard to understand Walmart's sudden generosity -- when the iPhone range is nearing its annual upgrade, the lower prices should keep current units moving.

It's been almost half a year since Vertu launched its first-ever Android phone, the TI, and now the company's decided to throw in a couple of limited editions to lure the big spenders. As pictured above, the new Vertu TI Colours collection is wrapped in either "Sunset Red" or "Midnight Blue" calf leather, and only 1,000 units are made for each color. As per typical Vertu style, there's a unique number etched on the back to indicate which of the 1,000 units yours is.
The rest of this hand-crafted, matt grey titanium phone remains unchanged otherwise, namely its 3.7-inch tough sapphire screen, Android 4.0, 1.7GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4, 64GB storage plus an 8-megapixel camera. And of course, the phone still comes with the famed Vertu Concierge, a "100 percent independent" service that CEO Perry Oosting is very proud of. To join this exclusive club, you'll have to somehow fork out a whopping HK$90,000 or €8,900 (about US$11,700) -- just a tad more expensive than the TI Titanium Pure Black edition, but also more flamboyant. This author already spotted these new phones at Vertu's Hong Kong Airport store, and he's currently accepting donations.

Apple's developer Website offers a new, handy graph of iOS fragmentation — which, of course, highlights that the mobile operating system isn't fragmented much at all. A full 93 percent of iOS users are on iOS 6, the latest version; another 6 percent rely on iOS 5; and a mere 1 percent use an earlier iOS. Compare that to Google Android, which really is fragmented: some 33 percent of Android devices run some variant (either 4.1.x or 4.2.x) of the 'Jelly Bean' build, while 36.5 percent run a version of 'Gingerbread,' which was first released in December 2010 — ancient history, in mobile-software terms. (Other versions take up varying slices of the Android pie.) For years, Google's rivals have used the 'Android is fragmented' argument to hype their own platforms. But is Android's fragmentation really hurting the platform? Not as far as global shipments are concerned. According to recent data from research firm IDC, Android's market-share stood at 75 percent in the first quarter of 2013 — up from 59.1 percent in the same quarter a year ago. Meanwhile, iOS owned 17.3 percent of the market — compared to 23.1 percent in the year-ago quarter. Whatever the drawbacks of fragmentation (and people can name quite a few), it's clear that it's not really hurting Android device shipments or adoption.+

Supermarket giant looking to sign people up while they shop.
Tesco is trialing a new mobile initiative, which will aim to encourage shoppers to sign up for the store’s Clubcard via an in-store iPad, Market Watch has reported.
The Tesco Clubcard loyalty scheme already boasts more than 17 million subscriptions and will look to add to this number with it’s new scheme.
Developed by mobile marketing firm Incentivated, a dedicated app is hosted on iPads that are attached to the store’s walls in specially created branded cases.
So far, the trial has been rolled out in four London Tesco Express stores: Tottenham Court Road, St. John's Wood Terrace, Lisson Grove and Melcombe St (both in Marylebone).
Customers who sign up via the app will receive an SMS receipt to confirm that their details are being processed. They will also receive an email confirmation in the same way that they do for consumers who register online.
The news follows recent reports that Tesco has begun pushing targeted ads to its customers via Clubcard TV.

Yesterday’s Samsung Premiere 2013 event saw the firm unveil its new Galaxy NX camera.
The mirrorless camera is the world’s first interchangeable lens Android Connected Compact System Camera (CSC) with 3G/4G LTE.
Simon Stanford, Vice President of IT & Mobile Division, Samsung UK & Ireland said: “We’re excited to be leading the way in innovation with the launch of the Samsung Galaxy NX. Featuring Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, the NX has the functionality of a smartphone. Users can choose from an array of Android apps to help capture and edit photographs and videos.
The camera also has a 1.6GHz Pega-Q quad-core processor, 1/6000 sec shutter speed and a 4.8-inch HD LCD display.

If you're looking for the next iPhone to introduce a host of new features or major design changes, these leaked images might leave you a little disappointed.
Images obtained by MacRumours reportedly show the net iPhone, which the reports refers to as the iPhone 5S.
On show is a handset very similar to the current iPhone 5, with little to no changes aesthetically. The rear of the device appears to show minor changes to the device, with the rumoured 5S sporting a dual-LED flash over the single LED used within the original iPhone 5.
Meanwhile, shots revealing the inside of the device again cast doubt over any major overhaul of the device's being, with the only noticeable change being the use of a higher capacity 5.92 Whr battery.

It also has an 8MP camera.Samsung actually announced the S4 Zoom some days ago after a rouge review of the device appeared online. It features a 16Mp camera and 10x zoom lens and retains all the features of the original S4 device. There’s been a LOT of Galaxy handsets announced so far this year, including the Young, Fame, Win and Ace 3. The firm has pretty much flogged the Galaxy range to within an inch of its life. June 21st, 2013, 01:08 Posted By: wraggster
In the week before E3, Microsoft and Square Enix announced sequels to two of the biggest games of this generation – but they weren’t for Xbox One or PS4.
They were for tablets. And they were met with apathy from consumers and journalists alike.
Action RPG Deus Ex: The Fall and top-down shooter Halo: Spartan Assault are being positioned as the next major instalment in their respective franchises. Both were shown to the press behind closed doors and embargoed – an unusual practice for mobile titles.
Within minutes of each title’s announcement, the reasons for this became apparent: publishers expected a less than enthusiastic response.
Twitter was alight with calls for next generation sequels rather than mobile cash-ins. Sites covered each title’s debut as a by-the-numbers announcement, burying them under stories about the upcoming consoles. I myself offered to write a hands-on preview for several major games sites, only to be ignored or turned down, with two leading sites saying they “don’t cover iOS games”.
It’s a stark contrast to the changing attitude of publishers starting to take.
Just going by numbers, it’s easy to see why publishers want to conquer the mobile market. Xbox 360 and PS3’s 70m-plus sales can’t match the 100m iPads that have been sold globally. And games dominate both the Paid and Free charts every week. So why is this sizeable audience not interested?
“I don’t think many people understand what
you can do with these platforms,” says Square
Enix marketing boss Jon Brooke. “People have
been fed too many watered down and light
versions of games. We could have ported
Human Revolution, but that just says people
are stupid enough to just accept ports. We
believe there’s a space for new unique
console-like experiences.” Jon Brooke – marketing manager, Square Enix
“I don’t think many people understand what you can do with these platforms,” says Square Enix marketing boss Jon Brooke. “People have been fed too many watered down and light versions of games. We could have ported Human Revolution, but that just says people are stupid enough to just accept ports. We believe there’s a space for new unique console-like experiences.”
Certainly there has been success for such titles in the past. Epic Games’ Infinity Blade shook up the market back in 2010, while Gameloft thrives on console-style titles like N.O.V.A.
Even traditional publishers have dramatically improved the quality of thier mobile games. Football Manager Handheld, developed specifically for smart devices, sold over half a million units last year.
Spartan Assault is one of many Halo spin-offs. If webseries Forward Unto Dawn was so well-received, why shouldn’t a triple-A mobile game please the same fans?
And The Fall has been developed with the help of Eidos Montreal, the studio that put Deus Ex back on the map. It has the same writers, composer, gameplay and style of Human Revolution – the only difference is touch control. Why shouldn’t Square Enix offer the Deus Ex experience to mobile users?
Perhaps it is because few triple-A mobile games are made that are not connected to a retail release, creating the stigma that such titles are nothing more than merchandise. Perhaps it’s the fear that publishers will abandon next gen in favour of mobile should this market prove to be more profitable.
If so, this fear is unfounded.
“We’re as serious about tablet gaming as we are about next gen,” assures Brooke. “We’re just trying to show what these platforms can do.”
