In a few years, an iPhone app may give you a 3D layout of a room as soon as you step into it. Researchers have developed an algorithm that spits out the shape and contours of complex structures (including Switzerland's Lausanne Cathedral) using data compiled from four randomly placed microphones. The technology, which relies on the same sort of echolocation bats and dolphins use to navigate, could be used to develop more realistic echoes in video games and virtual reality simulations and to eliminate the echo from phone calls."

Says the 6.18mm thick device will look to do battle with Galaxy S4 and iPhone 5 and 6.
Huawei staged a grand global launch of its new Ascend P6 at the Roundhouse in London's always quirky Camden Town this afternoon, opening the event with a light show reminiscent of something one may see at a dance music festival.
Once guests suffering from epilepsy had been escorted to A&E, a rather attractive blonde took to the stage to introduce Huawei CEO Richard Wu, swiftly realising her error to correctly introduce the chief as Richard Yu.
Yu, said: "The theme behind the P6 is elegance with edge. We take the brand slogan 'Make it possible' seriously because our goal is to make impossible things possible. We want to change the industry's innovation.
The metal-based Ascend P6 is touted as the world's slimmest smartphone due to its 6.18mm thickness – there's a reason this particular date was chosen for the launch – and will retail for €449. The handset also comes with a 4.7-inch screen and a 1.5GHz quad-core processor.
Huawei claims the camera was a very important when developing the handset, which sports an 8MP rear camera and a 5MP front-facing camera, powering it with an 'IMAGESmart Engine'.
The camera's 'auto scene recognition' feature will instantly adjust dependent on whether the snapper is indoors, outdoors, and whether it is day or night. The presentation compared the images to those taken by the Galaxy S4 and iPhone 5, noting that the P6 is superior. Meanwhile, those that love taking pictures of their food before guzzling it can expect to make their grub look even more beautiful with the 4CM macro view feature.
The device will launch in its native China today, while it will be available in 19 countries by the end of July, which will rise to 100 by the fourth quarter. Orange, Three, Vodafone, O2, and T-Mobile are among operator partners.
Nick Woodley, lead designer of the Huawei's London design centre insists paper was the inspiration behind the P6. No, really. While Samsung says its devices are designed for humans – you don't say – Huawei believes smartphones have replaced books and considered this when producing the P6.
Woodley, said: "We believe we've achieved world class design with the Huawei P6. We had to find the balance between advancing technology and what people what.
"The smartphone has replaced our paper and we considered this to keep the balance when making the product. We observed the curve of page turns and beyond, and the final build quality feels excellent."
The device is based around three principles; design for outer beauty, camera for discovering beauty and user interface for inner beauty.
The P6 runs on a Huawei-adapted version of Android called Emotion UI, which claims to offer hundreds more enhancements than the standard version of the Google OS.
It comes with a Me Widget for customising all content; news, music, travel and so on, with the latter changing based on the user's location. Cloud-based storage is also on offer, while Power Manager will allow the user to monitor their battery consumption.
Huawei acknowledges that security is a big concern for many mobile users, which is whyPermission Manager will provide users with the means to control the information they share with apps and websites.
AirSharing is also on-board. The feature supports the increasing trend of content sharing between users and also the rise of the second-screen, enabling users to beam images and games to the TV.
Meanwhile, more than 1,000 themes can be downloaded online and the device comes in black, white or pink and has an array of different coloured accessories and styles.
Yu admitted that the likes of Samsung and Apple have a larger marketing budget, but that it won't stop Huawei from reaching consumers. "We aim to compete with the likes of the Galaxy S4, the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 6. We want to provide products at a reasonable price, with better innovation and better design to win consumers from competitors.
"Rivals have a larger marketing budget, but they also charge more for their phones. We offer devices at a lower price than rivals and we're still making more investment into marketing. Winning the trust of consumers is the most important thing to us."

Samsung's already doing a pretty good job selling its new flagship GS4, not to mention preparing a Google-fied stock version for the summer. There's another variant now confirmed, however, with Samsung's co-chief exec, JK Shin, telling Reuters today that a modified Galaxy S 4 will be the first smartphone to commercially launch on LTE-Advanced, the next step up from existing LTE. (Not forgetting that the new tech is already live in parts of Russia.) On the new radio technology, data speeds could theoretically double what you currently experience on a 4G signal. For Samsung's new smartphone, this will involve using Qualcomm chips compatible with the next-gen networks, notably sidestepping its homemade Exynos silicon. "As operators seek to provide more data-centric mobile services, I think this will become mainstream 4G technology globally in the coming years," Shin said, though he refused to name any specific networks that the new GS4 would eventually launch on.

HTC has been relatively quiet with its plans to push Android 4.2 to the One (aside from a few unofficial leaks), but Three UK is hoping to start the conversation. In a recent tweet, the mobile operator answered a customer's query regarding the update, stating that HTC pulled the firmware, with no specific details on when (or if) the new version of Android will arrive. We reached out to HTC and received confirmation that Android 4.2 is in fact still coming, although users may need to wait a little longer before it becomes available. We'll continue to update as soon as we hear more official news from the manufacturer, but at least we know it's still in the plans.

App Annie-IDC survey sees microtransactions top 50% of revenue, growth projected to continue through 2014
[h=3]App Annie[/h]
The mobile gaming business is poised to top $12 billion in worldwide revenues this year and it's only getting bigger, according to a report from analytics firm App Annie and International Data Corporation. The two companies released their findings at E3 last week.
The companies believe that in 2012, there were 800 million portable devices used for gaming, including tablets, smartphones, and dedicated gaming handhelds like the PlayStation Vita and 3DS. By the end of next year, IDC and App Annie expect that to jump to 1.2 billion devices. While they expect tablets and smartphones to take up a larger market share, the actual installed user base for gaming handhelds is expected to hold more or less steady.
The revenue mix for portable gaming is also changing, with microtransactions making up more than half of the market's revenues this year. App Annie and IDC put the in-app purchase model behind 51 percent of this year's portable revenues, with pre-paid options (either for handheld games or premium mobile titles) accounting for 44 percent, with the remaining slice of the pie accounted for by advertising. In 2012, the group believes microtransactions accounted for about 40 percent of total portable gaming revenue.
The report showed clear momentum for mobile and tablet gaming, but there was also a hint of optimism for dedicated gaming handhelds. IDC and App Annie expect 2014 to see portables like the 3DS and Vita finally reverse a trend of falling average revenue per user, projecting a jump from a low under $15 this year to somewhere in the $19 range by the end of 2014. Smartphone and tablet average revenue per user is projected to be down slightly, but still north of $10.
Finally, the report identified some key growth markets for the mobile business. On iOS, the US, Japan, and China saw significant gains in the first quarter of 2013, while Japan and South Korea posted "astonishing" growth for Android revenues in the same time frame.
Data for the report was pulled from App Annie's analytics software, which is currently used by more than 190,000 apps and more than 80 percent of the top 100 highest grossing iOS publishers.

AT&T has rolled out Wireless Emergency Alerts for iPhones. The alerts are for huge catastrophes (a Presidential Alert), for weather / natural calamities, and for AMBER alerts. One can turn off the latter two, but the Presidential alert cannot be turned off. The article mentions only 4S and 5 get this update. That said, I have a 4 and it got the update this morning. This was enacted in 2006, for those keeping track of such things. I, for one, do not care for this any more than I like the idea of them reading my communications to begin with. Oh, I'm sorry, the "metadata" from my communications."

"Not to be left out Apple has released details about government requests for customer data. The company said it received between 4,000-5,000 government requests, affecting as many as 10,000 accounts or devices. From the article: 'The iPad maker said that it received between 4,000 and 5,000 requests from U.S. law enforcement agencies for customer data from December 1, 2012 to May 31, 2013, and that 9,000 to 10,000 accounts or devices were specified in the requests. Apple did not state how many of the requests were from the National Security Agency or how many affected accounts or devices may have been tied to any NSA requests.' Facebook and Microsoft released their numbers this weekend."

New section to display all children's apps under one roof
The iOS 7 will usher in a new kids games category to the App Store.
The new section will bring childrens games under one roof, instead of listed amongst various other categories such as games, books, education and entertainment, and will spotlight the best apps appropriate for kids based on age.
As the Apple website notes: “Now parents and teachers can quickly find apps that are perfect for children. Just visit the new Kids category for a curated selection of age-appropriate apps.”
As The Guardian reports however, it is currently unclear whether Apple will police age-appropriate content themselves, or whether this will be left up to developers to decide on when submitting their apps.
The moved to create a special children’s section could offer a place for Apple to inform parents about in-app purchases and how children can play such games safely. The Guardian also suggests Apple could set specific rules for individual in-app purchases, which could be considered a response to the UK Office of Fair Trading’s investigation into IAPs in children’s games.

Hit mobile game attracting just under one million users a month on average
The trailblazing success of GungHo’s free-to-play mobile title Puzzle & Dragons shows little signs of abating after hitting 15 million users.
As reported by Serkan Toto, the title has managed to garner one million users in just 21 days. In fact, it is the 13th time the title has attracted a million new users in less than 21 days.
The milestone means that since the game’s release in February last year, the title has accrued just under one million users each month, at 940,000.
Even more impressive, is that in its first eight months on sale, the game only managed to gain two million users, before rapidly increasing its userbase from October onwards.
The company’s market cap still stands at around $15 billion.

Following the success of Sainsburys 6 pilot phone shops, the supermarket will roll out the additions across its fleet of over 400 stores. A phone shop website is also on the cards to provide an online backup for the stores.
The modern looking shops are said to have received positive feedback from customers who apparently say they 'feel like they are pounced on in the high street stores, whereas in here they feel like they can ask questions and get lots of help without felling pressured.'
To combat an already swamped market, Sainsburys have launched a number of aggressive deals including the Samsung Galaxy S4 on a 24 month contract with O2, including 600 minutes, unlimited texts and 750MB of data for £32 a month.
2,500 Nector points will also be dealt out to customers signing a contract with them, giving more incentive for people to use the services.
The retailer has also finalised a deal with Apple to supply the iPhone later this summer alongside networks such as O2, Three, Orange T-Mobile and Vodaphone. Their Airtime is being supplied by A1 Comms and handsets and accessories from 20:20 Mobile.

Following Apple's announced changes to its Game Center suite with iOS 7, a potential third-party peripheral for the iPhone has appeared online.
Sporting Logitech's G-prefix branding, the image obtained byKotaku would indicate the firm is preparing its own gamepad for the iPhone 5.
Kotaku doesn't disclose where the image came from but emphasises the legitimacy of the peripheral.
The size of the controller, in addition to its inclusion of a Lightning connector would certainly support the device's existence. As for aesthetics, the pad borrows much of its styling from some of history's favourite controllers, looking very similar to Nintendo's retro gamepad.
Image from Kotaku Unveiled at Apple's WWDC event earlier this month, iOS 7 is the latest edition of the firm's mobile operating system and is set to introduce a host of changes.
One such change is the planned support for third-party controllers – something that is set to pave the way for a host of iPhone gaming peripherals, such as Logitech's rumoured pad, following Apple's confirmation it would not provide a first party solution.
Could Logitech's device become the first officially supported controller for the iPhone? Expect to find out in the coming months.

Yabause SVN r3132 for Android is compiled. Yabause is a Sega Saturn Emulator(SS Emulator) for Linux, Windows and Mac OS X.Yabause support booting games using Saturn cds or iso files.
Yabause SVN r3132 for Android Changelog:
With this build you can:
- select bios (copy it in "yabause/bios" on the sdcard);
- select game (copy it in "yabause/games" on the sdcard);
- enable frameskip;
- show/hide fps;
- turn off sound, adjust volume, etc.;
- save to saturn memory.
That means you should be able to play a game and save... but see "bugs" section
Some know bugs / problems with this build:
- it's built without the dynarec so it's painfully slow, there's some bug in the dynarec that we'll have to fix before including it again;
- quitting and restarting the emulator doesn't works, if you quit it, you'll have to "force close" it;
- the settings doesn't reload emulation (for instance after changing bios and/or game);
- it has not been tested on a recent android version, so there's good change it won't look good on them;
- I'm pretty sure it's full of bugs
