Amazon's Kindle Fire HD 7- and 8.9-inch slates have only seen limited shores since they were formally announced, but today the company said they're now available for pre-order in more than "170 countries and territories around the world." We could try and list all the new tablet markets, but it's easier to say that until now, they've only found spots in Amazon stores in the US, Europe and Japan. We're not surprised to see the hardware get a much wider release, given that the e-tailer revealed its plan to take the Appstore global last month. The only other nugget in the PR is an expected shipping date of June 13th. Head over to your local Amazon portal to confirm if your region is one of the lucky 170.
Update: Amazon's issued a second PR saying those international plans for the Appstore are no longer plans -- it's now up and running in "nearly 200 countries."
Pricing and Availability
Kindle Fire HD 8.9” is available for preorder starting today for just $284 at www.amazon.com/global-kindle-fire-hd-8.9.
Kindle Fire HD 7” is available for preorder starting today for just $214 at www.amazon.com/global-kindle-fire-hd.
Kindle Fire HD and Kindle Fire HD 8.9” will be available for order and ship June 13 to customers in Ireland and Gibraltar fromwww.amazon.co.uk; for customers in Austria and Luxembourg from www.amazon.de; and for customers in Monaco fromwww.amazon.fr.
Kindle Fire HD is also available at various retailers around the world. Customers can discover stores and location atwww.amazon.com/KindleRetailers.

You might still be getting your thumbs around that Q10, or the waiting for thatBlackBerry 10.1 update, but already some future tidbits for the platform have come to light. Michael Clewley, product manager at the firm, let slip that version 10.2 of the OS brings with it support for standard unicode emojis, multiple alarms and level 1 notifications (for email). With the 10.2 SDK said to be coming in June, you can expect the update to follow later in the year. Weren't sure what to do with BlackBerry Channels, yet? If you had added Clewley's (PIN C00014277) you'd have got the reveal straight from the man himself.

Another company is having a stab at trying to make a success of the mobile gaming peripheral market.
The MOGA Mobile Gaming System comes in two flavours – Pocket and Pro. Each allows users to cradle their smartphone in a front-facing socket and then control their games with an attached joypad.
The Pocket, as the name suggests, offers a more compact design while the Pro resembles a more traditional, bulky console controller. They will retail for £29.99 and £39.99 respectively.
Pre-orders for the pair, which MOGA assures will “revolutionise the mobile gaming experience”, go live today with a proposed release date of June 14th.
Compatible titles include Grand Theft Auto: Voce City, Real Soccer 2013 and Pacman. Users must download and install a free app to use the devices.
"We're really excited to be launching MOGA in the UK and are confident UK gamers will love it, especially in light of the rave reviews we've been receiving over here in the States," MOGA president Eric Bensussen.
"We really believe that this system is going to be a game changer in the mobile gaming sector, allowing consumers to play anywhere, anyhow, ultimately revolutionising their experience."

Social media is the most common activity, though 18 per cent search for products they see on TV.
Mobile advertising network InMobi has surveyed 15,000 mobile web users across 14 markets and finds that mobile ranks first in media consumption among mobile web users. In fact, they now consume 108 minutes of the average seven hours of media consumed per day via their device.
62 per cent of respondents engage in multi-screen activities while viewing TV, with 48 per cent engaging in social media while watching the box. Additionally, 46 per cent use instant messaging, 30 per cent play games or listen to music, and 18 per cent search for products they see on TV.
The multi-screen trend spiked to 69 per cent for 20-34 year-olds (millennials), and InMobi notes the chance for brands to reach wide audiences is huge. Meanwhile, 75 per cent of all respondents revealed they had discovered something new about a product via their mobile, and 45 per cent said mobile had influenced their in-store purchases.
Shrikant Latkar, VP of global marketing at InMobi, said: "The growing trend of multi-screen viewing provides a valuable opportunity for marketers to connect with television viewers through mobile devices. TV viewers are already using mobile devices while they watch programmes on the big screen, and they seem to be looking for ways to augment the experience through their tablets and smartphones.
"It’s imperative that marketers develop and execute a multi-screen strategy to provide a deeper brand experience that reaches across multiple channels and devices. Consumers are beginning to demand content that is relevant for the context they are in, and we believe that marketers can significantly increase engagement time and interaction if they implement savvy multi-screen strategies. Forward thinking marketers have already started to plan their media buying activity holistically across TV, print, digital and mobile, and we expect this trend to accelerate in the coming year."

When it comes to tech banter between rivals, Microsoft isn't known for sparring with Apple and Samsung. But with its latest Surface ad, the firm has delivered an absolute rib tickler.
Both Apple and Samsung have been lauded for their tongue in cheek commercials, taking aim at one another in the process, whilst Microsoft has maintained its corporate profile with a stiff upper lip.
But as Microsoft looks to better the likes of the iPad with its own Surface tablet, Redmond has undergone a change of heart and set its creative crosshairs directly on Apple with its newest ad, which features a familiar computer generated voice.
In the distinctly Apple-esque commercial, Microsoft appears to have kidnapped Siri, forcing her to talk smack about the iPad in the process, whilst the Surface diligently breezes through the tasks that Apple's flagship tablet seemingly can't – at least not in Microsoft's mind.
Microsoft even delivers a final blow by comparing the pricing of the two devices at the finale of the ad following its 'humiliation' of the iPad – another battle the Surface chalks up a win.
As Microsoft puts it, the Surface does less talking, more doing than Apple's overly chatty iPad.
Of course, there's no chance Apple won't respond with an ad of its own. Watch this space folks, the season of tech firm one-upmanship is officially open.

Samsung has announced that sales of the Galaxy S4 have surpassed 10 million in less than one month.
Launched globally on April 27th, the phone is estimated to be selling at a rate of four units per second.
The Galaxy S4 sets a new record for Samsung, generating sales quicker than any of its predecessors. Sales of the Galaxy S3 reached the 10-million mark 50 days after its launch in 2012, while the Galaxy S2 took five months and the Galaxy S seven months to reach the same milestone.
Samsung also revealed today that in the summer, the Galaxy S4 will be available in a variety of new colours. In addition to the current White Mist and Black Forest versions, consumers will be able to get their hands on Blue Arctic, Red Aurora, Purple Mirage and Brown Autumn.
Following the success of the Galaxy S4, Samsung is reportedly intending to release a new range of spin-off devices, most notably the S4 mini, S4 Active and a giant phone called the S4 Mega.

The Galaxy S 4 is now readily available in the US, but it hasn't had much sway with the prepaid crowd so far. Cricket should be addressing that deficit soon, as it just narrowed down its launch of the Samsung flagship to June 7th. The contract-free carrier is making up for being late to the party with a low up front price: customers can plunk down $55 to start an installment plan rather than pay the GS4's full $600 cost in one shot. Would-be adopters will need to live in one of Cricket's LTE coverage areas to pick up a GS4, but those who do may get a rare discount on a (mostly) fresh device.

Since the Galaxy S4's launch, Samsung's been eager to make security one of the device's stronger selling points. Through its partnership with Absolute Software, makers of LoJack for Laptops, Samsung will soon embed a theft recovery system right into the the phone's firmware. LoJack for Android smartphones, launching exclusively on the Galaxy S4, joins SAFE for Knox in Samsung's quest to develop "the most comprehensive mobile security solution" on the market. While there are plenty of apps that can locate misplaced phones via GPS and wipe their contents, the hope of retrieving a stolen phone is slim to none. In addition to content-clearing software, LoJack will offer a service in which "recovery specialists" attempt to return lost phones to their owners. There's no guarantee that said recovery specialists will be able to successfully track down thieves and reclaim stolen devices, but it's nice to dream. Subscriptions for LoJack for Android will start at $29.99 a year, though there's no official word yet on a release date.
