Reckons keyboard-loving customers will take the device to the promised land.
BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins recently spat in Apple's face by calling the iPhone stale. The German now makes another grand claim to Bloomberg by saying sales of the newly released Q10 handset will be in the "tens of millions."
"We have very, very good first signs already after the launch in the UK. This is going into the installed base of more than 70 million BlackBerry users so we have quite some expectations. We expect several tens of million of units," he said.
Presumably, Heins is referring to the exclusive launch of the Q10 in Selfridges stores on Friday, which resulted in the luxury retailer saying the device is already its best-selling smartphone it has ever sold.
The Q10 is the sequel to the company's flagship touchscreen handset, the Z10, which experienced one million shipments in Q1, though demand is said to have slowed. Meanwhile, the keyboard-wielding Q10 is expected to pick up the slack, with existing BlackBerry users preferring buttons to swipes and taps.

Google has updated its Google Play content polices, forbidding developers to automatically update apps without doing so directly through its app store, according to Droid Life.
Android developers were previously able to offer consumers an automatic update feature, which meant the app would upgrade itself without authorisation each time, but Google now considers such a feature as a 'Dangerous Product'.
The policy alert, reads: "Google Play content policies have been updated. See "Content Policies" section, which clarifies that 'An app downloaded from Google Play may not modify, replace or update its own APK binary code using any method other than Google Play's update mechanism.'
"Google Play is a trusted source for Android application downloads, and we are committed to providing a secure and consistent experience."

Sony's mash-up Xperia, the SP, is taking its transparent element light show to the UK today, giving budget-minded Brits one stylish and feature-packed handset. The 4.6-inch 720p handset, which is basically a Best of... edition of the Xperia S and P with an aluminum unibody, is shipping now at T-Mobile UK for £250 outright (about $387 USD), whereas Orange and EE are offering up the device for free with qualifying plans. If you want LTE, however, you only have one carrier option and that's EE -- a choice that'll have you shackled for a two-year period. As for O2 and Three, those carriers still have the SP listed as "coming soon," but it's safe to say you won't find a better bargain than *free.
*Nothing in life is free.

Samsung's latest flagship, the GS4, landed on Sprint and AT&T a couple of days ago, and now it's T-Mobile's turn to join the party -- at least by way of its virtual stores. Taking advantage of the carrier's recently unveiled pricing scheme, the Galaxy S 4 will be available starting at $149.99 up front for the 16GB model (plus the $20 extra per month for the next two years, of course). Now, if you're looking to physically pick one up instead, you'll have to wait a little longer, as it won't be available at brick-and-mortar shops until May 1st.

If you've been waiting for the least burdensome tablet you could find, Sony's 17.5 ounce, 6.9mm thick Xperia Tablet Z is now up for pre-order in the US. On top of being the lightest, slimmest 10-inch slate on the market, it's not exactly slumming spec-wise either: there's a 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor, Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, 2GB RAM, an 8.1-megapixel Exmor R camera, NFC, LTE, S-Force virtual surround sound, 32GB storage and a 10.1-inch 1,920 x 1,200 display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 tech. To round it off, the tab is dust- and water-resistant, and Sony's pre-loaded its TV SideView app, which uses the built-in IR to let you change your TV's channel and get scheduling, recommendations, voice search and IMDB-like info. The downside? We noted that the ambitiously thin design made the device a bit bendy and creaky. You can pre-order at the source ($500 for the 32GB model and $600 for 64GB), or check the video after the break to see how a three-legged dog might use the slate while taking a bath. No, you didn't just misread that.

Google Now is, perhaps, one of the more compelling reasons to opt for an Android device over iOS. But, Mountain View is smart enough to realize that its big push to deliver information pre-emptively would be severely hampered if it was isolated to one platform. So, here we are, almost a year after Now debuted with the launch of Jelly Bean, and the (mis)labeled Siri competitor has finally landed on Apple's mobile OS. Obviously, to truly come to grips with a product like this, you'd need days or weeks to truly judge it, but we're familiar enough with the Android version to feel comfortable passing along our initial impressions. So head on after the break to see whether or not Google was able to replicate its virtual assistant magic on iOS.

An anonymous reader writes in with news about shape-shifting mobile devices unveiled by researchers from the University of Bristol's Department of Computer Science."Prototype mobile devices that can change shape on-demand will be unveiled today and could lay down the foundation for creating high shape resolution devices of the future. The research paper (Pdf), to be presented at one of the world's most important conferences on human-computer interfaces, will introduce the term 'shape resolution' and its ten features, to describe the resolution of an interactive device: in addition to display and touch resolution. The research, led by Dr Anne Roudaut and Professor Sriram Subramanian, from the University of Bristol's Department of Computer Science, have used 'shape resolution' to compare the resolution of six prototypes the team have built using the latest technologies in shape changing material, such as shape memory alloy and electro active polymer."

Apple tackles IAP concerns with brief overview on business model
Apple has released a new in-app purchases guide on the front page of the App Store on iPad as it pro-actively tackles the government’s investigation into the business model.
The guide for the App Store’s most widely used revenue-generating scheme explains what In-App Purchases are, their types and how they work.
It also details the 15-minute period in which extra IAPs can be made without needing to re-enter a password, and how parental control settings can be changed to completely disable in-app purchases or at least require a password for each transaction.
The free-to-use guide is likely in response to the Office of Fair Trading’s investigation into the use of IAPs in children’s apps.
Earlier this month the OFT, which enforces consumer protection and competition law as well as monitoring business practice, expressed concern over what it deemed could be ‘unfair’ practices employed to encourage children to spend parents’ money through IAPs.

CEO and founder Elizabeth Sarquis on inspiring the smartphone generation to give through gaming.
A self-proclaimed missionary on a quest to inspire the smartphone generation to engage with charitable causes via mobile gaming, Elizabeth Sarquis, founder and CEO of the Global Gaming Initiative, sees mobile games as something far greater than merely a way to pass the time.
Based on the principle of teaching the value of giving in a way that today’s smartphone generation will be able to understand and engage with, the Global Gaming Initiative combines mobile gaming with good causes the world over, with 50 per cent of all proceeds going directly to charity.
Set to launch in June, Global Gaming Initiative’s first offering is due to arrive in the form of Sidekick Cycle. As mentioned above, 50 per cent of all profits from the downhill cycling racer game will be donated to charity - in this case, World Bicycle Relief.
So, to tell us more about the initiative and the potential for mobile gaming to be utilised as key platform in the art of raising funds and awareness for charitable causes, Mobile Entertainmentcaught up with Sarquis to talk us through her quest…
Daniel Gumble: Do you see the Global Gaming Initiative as a charity organisation or a games publisher?
Elizabeth Sarquis: I would definitely define us as a games publisher. We’re a company that designs games, but we also want to donate 50 per cent of our proceeds to good causes. However, we are also a for-profit company, as without profit, we wouldn’t be able to exist.

Nine games already available for the new smartphone.
Back at MWC in February, mobile games publisherChillingo announced a partnership with Samsung to offer developers a 100 per cent revenue share, while the founders went on to explain that the concept is designed to encourage a feeling of community among indie studios.
Now, furthering its commitment to populating the Samsung Apps platform, Chillingo says nine of its games are compatible for the Galaxy S4 at launch. Titles on offer include Catapult King and Parking Mania, while they're all optimised for the device's five-inch screen.
Ed Rumley, COO, Chillingo, said: "Chillingo is proud to have some of our most popular games available on the Samsung Galaxy S4 at launch. The device has stunning new features that pushes game development even further and we're working closely with our indie partners to bring more fantastic titles to the platform."

April 29th, 2013, 15:48 Posted By: wraggster
Samsung has today announced its latest tablet, the Galaxy Tab 3, a 7-inch tablet to compete with the likes of the iPad mini and the Nexus 7.
The Korean firm has shaved an inch off its Galaxy tablet in a bid to put the device in direct completion with the most popular 7-inch tablets currently on the market.
The Tab 3 has a 1.2GHz processor, 8GB or 16GB of storage, 1GB of RAM, and microSD slot for up to 64GB of additional storage.
The device has a WSVGA display with 1024x600 resolution. In comparison, the Nexus 7 has 1280x800 pixels. However the Tab 3 is slimmer than the Nexus 7, measuring just 9.9mm compared to 10.45mm for Google’s 7-inch tablet.
With a Li-ion 4,000 mAh battery, the Tab 3 runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and has a 3MP rear camera and a 1.3MP front facing one.
A WiFi version of the Galaxy Tab 3 will be available globally at the beginning of May with a 3G version to follow in June.

First version of Sony PSP emulator for Android/Windows has been updated. Changes:
- A serious bug was fixed and suddenly a ton of vexing issues just dissappeared! For example, the 3D graphics being black in Persona 3 and the large graphics errors in the two main GTA games. Those are now very playable (on PC, a bit heavy for mobile)! Also, I found a major bug affecting Little Big Planet among others, fixing that as well. The UI now also has multi-language support, it's in Settings->System. All these fixes are enough to motivate a new official release, so here we go - 0.7.6!
