CEO and founder Elizabeth Sarquis on inspiring the smartphone generation to give through gaming.
A self-proclaimed missionary on a quest to inspire the smartphone generation to engage with charitable causes via mobile gaming, Elizabeth Sarquis, founder and CEO of the Global Gaming Initiative, sees mobile games as something far greater than merely a way to pass the time.
Based on the principle of teaching the value of giving in a way that today’s smartphone generation will be able to understand and engage with, the Global Gaming Initiative combines mobile gaming with good causes the world over, with 50 per cent of all proceeds going directly to charity.
Set to launch in June, Global Gaming Initiative’s first offering is due to arrive in the form of Sidekick Cycle. As mentioned above, 50 per cent of all profits from the downhill cycling racer game will be donated to charity - in this case, World Bicycle Relief.
So, to tell us more about the initiative and the potential for mobile gaming to be utilised as key platform in the art of raising funds and awareness for charitable causes, Mobile Entertainmentcaught up with Sarquis to talk us through her quest…
Daniel Gumble: Do you see the Global Gaming Initiative as a charity organisation or a games publisher?
Elizabeth Sarquis: I would definitely define us as a games publisher. We’re a company that designs games, but we also want to donate 50 per cent of our proceeds to good causes. However, we are also a for-profit company, as without profit, we wouldn’t be able to exist.
