New device debuts at The Gadget Show Live 2013.
Making its UK debut at The Gadget Show Live 2013, LG’s Pocket Photo mobile printer is set to bring on-the-fly printing to both iOS and Android users.
The LG Pocket Photo is built to deliver high-quality photo prints for iOS and Android users, whilst also offering optimised wireless connectivity.
To use the device, users need simply to download the LG Pocket Photo app, from where they can make quick edits or embed QR codes before printing. They can also share photos on social media platforms and online directly from the device.
Furthermore, the Pocket Photo device supports Bluetooth and NFC, whilst also utilising inkless printing technology from ZINK.
As one of the most compact mobile printing devices on the market, the LG Pocket Photo fits easily into the palm of the user’s hand and produces 5.1 x 7.6cm (2 x 3-inch) prints.
“Printed photos offer a certain intimate appeal and tactile pleasure that digital images simply can’t provide,” said Craig West, Head of Marketing, LG Consumer Electronics UK. “Whether you want to keep a photo in your wallet or add it to a personal scrapbook or diary, LG’s smart mobile printer offers the ideal solution.”
Launching at The Gadget Show Live 2013 in Birmingham, consumers will be able to try out the Pocket Photo for themselves at the event.

Hotly anticipated Facebook Phone likely to be most successful in emerging markets.
With Facebook expected to announce its first ever Facebook smartphone later on today (April 4th), mobile monetisation firm Upstream has revealed that a Facebook Phone would be most widely welcomed in emerging markets, according to its latest research.
At 18.00 GMT today, Facebook is welcoming press to its California HQ, where it is thought that a Facebook Phone made by HTC will be unveiled.
Running the Android operating system, the device would offer a host of exclusive features based around the social network.
So, if today’s announcement does indeed mark the arrival of a Facebook Phone, where would it be most likely to prosper?
Well, according to new research from Upstream, the world’s emerging markets would be the most ready to welcome such a device. The firm’s Emerging Market Mobile Attitudes report saw 31 per cent of respondents from across Nigeria, India, Saudi Arabia and Brazil state that they would like to purchase a phone deisnged by a social network.
Furthermore, 70 per cent of respondents from emerging markets also claimed that they want to access social media networks via their mobiles.
However, only 12 per cent of respondents said that they would be happy with Facebook Zero – a text-only version of the social network.
Elsewhere, the report found that 19 per cent of respondents from emerging markets are happy to receive advertising over their mobile phone daily, and that 31 per cent would trust mobile network operators most when receiving promotional messages over mobile.
“Since its IPO last year, Facebook’s business model has increasingly turned to mobile, with mobile advertising recognised as the major revenue generator for the social network,” said Marco Veremis, CEO, Upstream. “It’s first step into the mobile hardware ecosystem will be particularly welcomed by consumers within emerging markets – who depend on their mobile devices to connect to the Internet and to participate in social networks. In fact, recent research results show that consumers across these regions have a huge appetite for social media connectivity – with 31 per cent of emerging market consumers stating they specifically desire a ‘social media phone’, designed by the social network with relevant apps and content already pre-loaded.
“However Facebook should tread carefully. Consumers in the UK and US have already expressed frustrations about the levels of advertising they receive. So far Facebook has recognised that the growth in impressions available to marketers as mobile penetration grows does not equate to bombarding people with advertising. While emerging market consumers may be more amenable to mobile ads, heightened or intrusive advertising is not the way forward,” he concluded.

Google is reportedly ready to launch its next-generation model of Nexus 7 tablets as the firm targets a summer launch for the new device.
Initially reported by Reuters, the new edition of the Nexus 7 is believed to feature a Qualcomm processor – a move that would seemingly drop Nvidia's Tegra 3 chip, which was used within the device's predecessor.
The updated Nexus 7 could also sport a full HD display – a significant improvement over the seven-inch 800 x 1280 screen used in the previous model.
Upon its launch, the Nexus 7 threw open the tablet market. As consumers increasingly turned to smaller, budget devices such as Google's device, rivals took note and paved the way for an influx of smaller tablets that includes the Amazon Kindle Fire HD and iPad mini.
Google is keen to replicate the success of the budget Nexus 7 by maintaining a low price tag for the device, with the firm reportedly ready to offer the device for as little as £99.
Whilst Google is remaining tight-lipped over the device, a new Nexus 7 could surface as soon as May, when the firm hosts its annual I/O event.

After I released version 0.03 of rpix86 last weekend, things were pretty quiet for a few days on the rpix86 side, so I decided to work on ax86 for a while. I had added a feature into rpix86 where it downloads (after asking a confirmation from the user) the 4DOS.COM command interpreter if it is not found on the disk, and I wanted to have similar feature in ax86. So, I started reading Android documentation about how to add dialogs and how to download files. It turned out that both of those things are reasonably simple to accomplish, and after spending a couple of evenings working on them, I had a working system in place!
When ax86 starts, it attempts to find 4DOS.COM from either the internal data storage, or from the SD card storage area. If neither locations have it, ax86 displays the above dialog. Clicking on Cancel will quit ax86, clicking on Download will start downloading 4DOS.COM. This phase shows a progress bar dialog while the file gets downloaded. After 4DOS.COM has been succesfully downloaded, ax86 starts running the main emulation code and presents the DOS prompt. I am thinking that this dialog could perhaps also have a third button, "Choose directory", in case the user already has a directory reserved for DOS software and wants to use that for ax86.
In the middle of last week I suddenly began to get lot more emails and forum messages about rpix86. This increased acticity was caused by several major technology news sites suddenly releasing an article about rpix86, so I got thousands of hits per day into my web site! I decided to switch back to working on rpix86 because of this increased interest in it. I will try to keep working on ax86 as well, though, so that I can eventually release it publicly as well.

The Android device dashboard has been providing a picture of OS version distribution since before Froyo pushed aside Eclair, but now it's seeing some changes. A post on the Android Developers Google+ page indicates that starting this month, numbers are based on devices whose users actively checked Google Play during the reporting period. Previously, it counted all devices that pinged Google servers. The latest stats, updated today, show a jump in the amount of actives (previously devices, now users) on Jelly Bean (Android 4.1 or higher), up to 25 percent from 16.5 percent last month when it counted the old way. The number of devices recorded running Froyo and Gingerbread have taken the biggest hit, down 3.6 and 4 percentage points, respectively.
There are a few ways to react to this, particularly remembering that these numbers are meant to help developers figure out how many users are available to target on the various versions of Android and types of hardware. It may help give a clearer picture of what setups the active users that developers hope to reach are using, without being muddied by little-used zombie hardware. On the other hand, it could be seen as a way to juke stats which have been used against Google's mobile OS by its competitors like Apple. Whichever side of the line one finds themselves on, more data is available by clicking on the source link below.

Android just gained another go-to for benchmarking. After failing to hit the 2012 markfor its Android-specific performance software, Futuremark's finally delivering on its promise and making 3DMark available today on Google Play. Typically used as a PC benchmarking tool, the free-to-download app now lets users catalog and compare performance across Windows and Android devices -- iOS and WinRT versions are still listed as "coming soon." There are a few caveats to use, though, as the application requires a smartphone or tablet running Android 3.1 or higher, with 300MB of storage space, a minimum of 1GB RAM and the ability to play nice with OpenGL ES 2.0 (which is about 90 percent of all Android devices, according to Google). Who knows? It could even find a permanent place in our own Android reviews soon. Only time and testing will tell -- check after the break for a video preview of what's in store.

While we're still waiting on an American carrier to officially release Sony's Xperia ZL, it turns out that Canadians don't have to be quite so patient. That promised April launchin the northern country has come right at the start of the month, and locals can order the compact 5-inch flagship from Bell, Rogers or Videotron as of today. Pricing varies sharply between networks, however. Bell is offering the most aggressive discount, at $100 on a lengthy three-year contract, while Rogers and Videotron raise the prices to a respective $125 and $200 on similar terms. You can also buy the smartphone off-contract from the carriers for $600 (Bell and Videotron) or $625 (Rogers), in addition to the $675 unlocked model from Sony itself. We'd think carefully about a purchase when the Xperia ZL is about to get some stiff competition in the next few weeks; those who want a better sense of (Omni)balance in their lives can hit the carrier links at the source.

Google's next generation of Nexus 7 tablets from ASUS will be Qualcomm-powered and arrive this July, according to Reuters. If its sources are to be believed, Mountain View is aiming to ship eight million units by the end of the year, showing it has a lot of confidence in the upcoming model. Other leaked info claims more screen resolution, a thinner bezel and an unspecified Qualcomm CPU instead of the current model's NVIDIA Tegra 3, possibly to save power. There's no info on pricing or other specs and Google's not speaking at this point, of course -- but if it proves accurate, hopefully the two companies have learned their lesson from the current model's runaway successand will ramp production accordingly.
