The two titles become the first games to appear on the Microsoft OS using the Marmalade SDK.
Cross-platform development tool Marmalade has launched the first games for Windows Phone 8 made using its SDK with hit titles 6th Planet and Propel Man.
Following Marmalade’s recently announced support for the Windows Phone 8 operating system, both titles have been ported and deployed in-house by the developers.
From Belgian developers Monkube, 6th Planet follows the story of a monkey sent in to space to visit Saturn, after it is revealed that it can be inhabited by humans. This sets up 50 levels of ‘physics-based’ challenges in the style of ‘Lunar Lander’ arcade games.
Meanwhile, Spiel’s Propel Man allows players to take control of a man fired out of a catapult and guide him through the air with his jetpack before deploying his parachute to ensure a safe landing.
Mohit Sureka, founder and CEO of Spiel Studios, said: “Windows Phone 8 platform will become a natural progression for all developers in the coming times who would like to see their games reach a wide and global audience. It was pretty easy to port the game using Marmalade and the support we received was very good. Since our code base is the same across all platforms it will be easier to update future releases at the same time.â€
Sven Van de Perre, managing and creative director, Monkube, commented: “Marmalade is an easy tool to work with and it has a very good performance engine. All of our work developing 6th Planetfor Windows Phone 8 was done in a matter of days and we are very happy with the way our game looks running on these devices.â€
Both games are now available for download from the Windows Phone Store.

The iTunes app store had a head start compared to its competitors and as a result had a huge selection of apps that was unsurpassed for a long time. But now Android has closed the gap and caught up and is providing stiff competition. Android and Apple have both been providing great phones for gamers. Due to the screen size and attention to details such as how comfortable the phones fit into your hand and also important things like image resolution and faster processors, these smartphones are now compatible for use with fantastic games that are on a par with games console games in terms of graphics and how realistic the experience is.
Both app stores provide most of the same games; however the App Store often charges 99 cents for the same games that are free on Android. If you are looking to go a little easier on your pocket, this could be a significant factor for you. Some people believe that the small amount of money apple charges is worth it because they get the best developers and the best quality apps overall. It's no secret that although you have access to a huge amount of apps on the android market due to it being open source, you often have to sift through a lot of rubbish.
Mobile casinos such as those found at onlinecasinoaustralia.com.au are huge in the gaming market, and this is one thing that the Android Market do not provide. Google do not allow real money mobile casino apps in the Android store. Their reasons are to do with not being able to control whether or not under-age people have access to the gambling games. The app store on the other hand allows casino apps, although this gives Apple the edge on Android as online casinos are so hugely popular, it's not too bad for Android as you can easily download casino software directly from the online casino sites which might even be better as you can get access to unique Android casino welcome bonuses and promotions for games such as Online slots and Poker.

Benjamin Rivers' Home, first released on PC last year, will be legitimately terrifying iOS and Mac users "hopefully before summer," the one-man studio told us during GDC. "If I could do this before the summer, that would be ideal, but that all depends on getting certified and making sure that all the bugs are worked out," Rivers said.
While Home's mobile port has never had an official release date, the original plan was for the game to come out much earlier this year. "The scope of getting this thing re-ported was a huge thing," Rivers said. "I use Game Maker, and they have a new suite of tools which lets you do iOS, Android, all that stuff. The unfortunate thing was that they came out with all that stuff after the game was released, so I've basically been spending the last six to seven months re-coding the whole game to match the new suite and to get everything up and running."
Rivers' work re-coding the game for iOS may have been time consuming, but it also may allow him to release an Android version of Home some time in the future. "Theoretically, it's easy to do Android because it's all running off the same code base," Rivers told us. "What I want to do is target the most popular phones and make sure that it's good. If things go weird and wonky, it's so easy to ruin that immersion, so I don't want it to be like 'Oh yeah, it'll totally work on your three year old HTC 2.1 device,' it can't do that."
As a result, Rivers anticipates that an Android version of Home would likely be optimized to run on a small selection of the most popular/common Android handsets, such as Samsung's Galaxy S line of devices.

Square Enix's questionably upgraded iOS version of Final Fantasy 5 has arrived on the App Store in New Zealand, which suggests it'll propagate throughout the world as the day goes on, likely arriving in North America late tonight. Square Enix had previously announced plans to release the port on iOS in March, but only in Japan, so the localized release comes as something of a surprise.
Final Fantasy 5 retails for $19.99 NZD, which is equivalent to $16.69 USD. Yeah, that seems a bit high, but Square Enix could use the money.

We just witnessed the arrival of Pandora on Windows Phone last week, and sometime this week users will be able to enjoy another large title: Temple Run. The flee-from-evil-monkeys thriller has long been available for iOS and Android, but its arrival adds another popular app to Microsoft's arsenal. We've confirmed that the 99-cent title is in fact the original version, with no official word on when or if the sequel will land in the Windows Phone Store. The game is just one of six that plan to debut in conjunction with the Game Developers Conference. The list of the other five includes 6th Planet,Propel Man, Orcs Must Survive, Fling Theory and Ruzzle, and most (if not all) will be available as early as today.

How to pass the time as the first OUYA consoles start shipping to backers? Well, if you've got a 3D printer at home, you can spend the hours printing your very own enclosure for the Android-based console. The gaming company has joined forces withMakerBot on a 3D printing development kit that'll let you customize your case at home. The plans, which were apparently optimized for the second generation Replicator, let you go crazy with custom designs and patterns, because while the rest of the world will get their chance to pick up a console this summer, yours can still be a special snowflake. You can check the plans out on Thingiverse in the source link below.

After nearly six months on the market, the MOGA Bluetooth-powered gaming controller is finally ready to open up its Android-restricted doors. We were told at theGame Developers Conference that starting today, developers can add MOGA support toKindle Fire and Windows Phone 8 games, thus marking the device's first foray outside of the Google Play ecosystem. Consumers shouldn't get too excited by this announcement just yet, however, as this is just a call for developers -- it'll still be awhile until we see MOGA-compatible Kindle Fire and Windows Phone 8 games pop up on that MOGA Pivot app. In the meantime, we also learned that the MOGA Pro controllerwe saw at CES will be available in stores starting April 15th for $50 a pop, so hopefully those newly-ported apps will be ready by then.

GameStick is here ... er, sort of. The development units are at least here at GDC 2013, quietly hanging out behind a nondescript computer monitor running a few Android games paired with a Nyko wireless controller. That's right, it wasn't running with the proprietary GameStick controller, but a third-party wireless -- we'll go hands-on with the company's internally built controller later this evening, and thusly we didn't want to offer a half-impression with the third-party units available on the show floor. Stay tuned for more, and take a gander at the gallery below for now.

Travelers face a dilemma: they'll often leave a phone in airplane mode to avoidexpensive roaming rates or a foreign SIM, but staying offline can break the translation services that might prove vital in a strange land. Google must have heard their plight, as a new version of Google Translate on Android adds the option to download offline packs for 50 different languages. They aren't as full-featured as their cloud-based equivalents, although there's good reason for the trimmed dictionaries -- at least some packs are over 150MB each. Unless space is just too tight, however, anyone with at least Android 2.3 can ask dónde el baño es without risking some bill shock.

[Ryan] has a friend with a birthday coming up, and being inspired by ever 12-year-olds favorite game, he decided to make a Minecraft ore block with RGB LEDs. The block can change from diamonds to emeralds via commands send from an Android phone.
After a few false starts, [Ryan] eventually had his ore cube laser cut at Acess Space, a hackerspace-ish group in Sheffield. The box was constructed out of 3mm MDF, while the windows were laser cut out of frosted acrylic, while the stone pattern on the cube is one giant custom-made sticker.
With the tedious part of the build out of the way, [Ryan] set to work on the electronics. He used a PIC attached to a few very large RGB LEDs, and a Bluetooth module that allows him to connect his phone to an ore block. Dialing in the right colors took some work, but eventually, [Ryan] had an Android-controlled Minecraft ore block, able to transmutate between gold, iron, diamond, emerald, lapis, and redstone.

Mobile phone use may be a more accurate identifier of individuals than even their own fingerprints, according to research published on the web site of the scientific journal Nature. Scientists at MIT and the Université catholique de Louvain in Belgiumanalyzed 15 months of mobility data for 1.5 million individuals who the same mobile carrier. Their analysis, 'Unique in the Crowd: the privacy bounds of human mobility' showed that data from just four, randomly chosen 'spatio-temporal points' (for example, mobile device pings to carrier antennas) was enough to uniquely identify 95% of the individuals, based on their pattern of movement. Even with just two randomly chosen points, the researchers say they could uniquely characterize around half of the 1.5 million mobile phone users. The research has profound implications for privacy, suggesting that the use of mobile devices makes it impossible to remain anonymous – even without the use of tracking software.

Will support app deployment to more than 130 Android stores in a matter of clicks.
Mobile advertising network InMobi expanded its jurisdiction into the app space over the past year, acquiring app monstisation startup MMTG Labs back in July and launching an engagement solution for developers and publishers in November.
The company now announces Android app store distribution platform, App Publish, which is powered by theapp distribution tech acquired through the takeover of Metaflow Solutions. It says the free-to-use tool is the first of its kind, enabling developers to publish apps to 130 stores worldwide 'in just a few clicks,' with payments and other content all managed in one dashboard.
Google Play has more than 700,000 apps and InMobi notes that discovery is an issue, while the likes of GetJar, Mobango and others, which support billions of downloads a year, still present developers with challenges.
App Publish claims to overcome the following problems:
* Publishing to each app store independently
* Navigating complex international laws
* Various platforms’ widely varied aesthetic and informational requirements
* Difficulties tracking and reporting download and install figures
* The challenges of collecting revenue from smaller or international platforms in a timely manner
Girish Prabhu, head of product management for developer platforms InMobi, said: "Paying for position and app discovery on Google Play is becoming increasingly expensive and ultra-competitive. The launch of App Publish serves to meet the mass desire from app developers to compete in multiple channels in a simple, profitable way. Early beta testers of App Publish have seen 30 per cent more downloads through these new app store channels."
Matt Siedel from 5C-Basic GmbH & Co. KG, an early adopter of App Publish, added: "As we’re a small, independent developer, App Publish enables us to reach out to users around the world. It helps us focus our energies on creating compelling applications rather than having to deal with complex app store submission requirements."

BB10 store to feature shows from MTV, Comedy Central, and more.
Ahead of the BlackBerry 10 unveiling, BlackBerry announced the new OS would feature content from film and music studios such as 20th Century Fox, Disney, Sony Music, Warner Music, and more.
The firm has now secured key television deals with PBS, Univision and Viacom, meaning content from Comedy Central, MTV and Downton Abbey will all be available on BlackBerry World for US users.
It's good news for the company, as it recently hit the 100,000 BB10 apps milestone, a 30,000 growth in seven weeks since launching.
Martyn Mallick, ViP of global alliances and business development at BlackBerry, said: "The momentum for BlackBerry 10 continues in the content space as more partners are looking to BlackBerry to reach new audiences and drive mobile content discovery and monetisation.
"We’re excited that PBS, Univision and Viacom have joined us to give customers in the US access to enjoy a world of content, from the major film studios, broadcasters and TV studios and networks, in a single location.â€
Kevin Conroy, president of digital and enterprise development, Univision, added: "Univision is pleased to make UVideos, the first bilingual digital video network, available on the much anticipated BlackBerry Z10. Moreover, for the first time, we will also make some of Univision's best TV series and telenovelas available in the video store on BlackBerry World on a transactional basis.
"More than three quarters of the US Hispanic population own a smartphone and they outpace their non-Hispanic counterparts in mobile video consumption by double digits. Mobile is where Hispanic America lives and this product launch extends Univision’s commitment to deliver the best in Hispanic programming across all platforms and devices."
Tom Gorke, SVP of content distribution for Viacom Media Networks, said: "Our audiences are increasingly turning to their smartphones to drop in on South Park, Jersey Shore, or SpongeBob SquarePants in Bikini Bottom anytime, anywhere they’d like. BlackBerry 10 is a great and growing platform for audiences to catch up with their favorite shows on the go, and for Viacom to extend the expansive reach of its beloved brands."

Contactless technology is now 'at the point of no return'.
ABI Research reckons the installed base of NFC-enabled devices will pass 500 million in 2014, rising on the 285m mobile and consumer electronics gadgets to ship this year.
The rise is attributed to OEMs continuing to implement the contactless solution into their new handsets, while operators are said to be dragging their heels and slowing down the process with a lack of support.
John Devlin, practice director, ABI, said: "NFC has reached the point of no return. It all hinged on handsets; and next year we will see half-a-billion devices in the hands of consumers as it becomes more widely integrated.
"Up until this point banks and other service partners were holding back from committing to MNOs and it has always surprised me that they did not drive this forward themselves and invest to take charge of this market's potential.
"Put simply the OEMs have innovated and made use of the simple abilities that NFC offers to increase interaction of people, devices, and their immediate environment. This is not just in mobile; tablets, PCs and peripherals, speaker docks, televisions, cameras, gaming and domestic appliances are all increasingly incorporating NFC."

Spicy Horse – namely Alice series founders American McGee and RJ Berg – is pitching a new Alice game to EA this week, following a Facebook poll to gauge player interest in "Alice 3" as a concept and a Kickstarter project. Spicy Horse is ready to roll on a new game: something online, cooperative and with user-generated content, all spanning different platform access points.
EA controls the Alice franchise and Spicy Horse wants to leverage its own burgeoning game distribution platform, which focuses on Android tablet-browser cross-play. This means the new game probably won't be a AAA project, Berg tells Joystiq at GDC.
"Probably a AAA title, as the previous two have been, is not the first priority of EA right now," Berg says. "We have to construct a very strong idea of how that presentation might run, but it's up to them to pick up on the opportunity."
McGee and Berg have a clear narrative outline for the new Alice game, throwing Alice onto the streets of London and into the minds of everyone she passes. "Right now the idea is Alice in 'Otherland,'" McGee says. "It's her invading the minds of other people and visiting their Wonderlands, and using what she's learned about her own mental landscape to go in and harm or heal the people she encounters. It means that the streets of London become the portals into 1,000, 10,000 amazing, different stories."
McGee says Spicy Horse has the story, ideas, technology and wherewithal to make a new Alice game, and it's up to EA to take this opportunity. "The burden is really on them. It always is. Hopefully we can be charming enough."

The iPad was never designed to be a laptop, but some people can't resist the urge to change a gadget's nature. For that purpose, Logitech is outing keyboard folios for the iPad and iPad Mini that double as a hands-free viewing stand for those long-haul flights. Your fingers will be hovering over a Bluetooth keyboard with membrane scissor keys, covered in your choice of colored fabric shell. The hardware is marked down to be available in the US and Europe in April, setting you back $100 for the iPad edition and $89.99 for the 7.87-inch version -- and if you'd like to learn more, you can check out the videos we've stashed after the break.

Just ahead of T-Mobile's event in New York City, we've noticed that the carrier has already listed the BlackBerry Z10 on its website. It looks like the smartphone will be available for a $100 down payment with a $18 monthly installment for 24 months, though the UnCarrier also lists the BB Z10 for $532 up front. Notably, the handset's page says it supports 4G LTE -- and we imagine we'll hear a good deal more about T-Mobile's network plans when the event kicks off in just a bit.
Update: The BB Z10's arrival on Big Magenta is official, with CEO John Legere announcing the previously mentioned smartphone pricing on stage.
