Sure, the only flavor of the Galaxy Note 8.0 currently lining US shelves is the versionjust packing Wi-Fi, but it appears that the LTE variety is getting ready for a trip stateside. The FCC just inspected a version of the tablet carrying a 850 / 1900 GSM radio along with support for LTE Bands 2, 4, 5 and 17, which are all tell-tale signs of hardware that plays nice with AT&T's network. For those in need of a refresher, Samsung's tablet runs Jelly Bean and boasts a 1.6 GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, A-GPS, GLONASS, a hefty 4,600 mAh battery, WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0. With one of the final hurdles for availability on American shores cleared, you're that much closer to laying your paws on a slate that can moonlight as an unwieldy cellphone.

Documents have been filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California for a $53 million settlement between Apple and customers denied warranty coverage on their iPods and iPhones due to water damage. The case is due to Apple's policy not to extend warranty coverage on devices where the indicator tape inside them showed exposure to liquids, however plaintiffs in the class action lawsuitargued the indicator could change color due to moisture or humidity. Apple does not acknowledge any wrongdoing in the settlement, which is still awaiting approval from the court, however customers with warranty claims denied prior to June 2010 (iPod touch) or December 31st, 2009 could be eligible for as much as $300 depending on the device owned and how many claims are filed. The scenario the plaintiffs cite is just the kind of thing we worried about back in 2006, and will probably remain in the back of our minds if we need to have any of our hardware serviced in the future no matter how much Apple and others work on more advanced detection systems.

US wireless carriers have been quite cagey about the availability of BlackBerry's Q10, with most committing only to a vague June release. But as of today, T-Mobile is the first to officially lock down a hard date for non-enterprise customers: June 5th. Starting next Wednesday, UnCarrier subscribers will finally get a chance to call the Q10 their own, with a choice to either pay $100 upfront (with a 2-year payment plan) or $580 outright for a crack at BB10 in portrait QWERTY form. For the money, prospective owners are getting a 3.1-inch, 720 x 720 Super AMOLED touch display, BlackBerry's famed physical QWERTY layout and, of course, the gesture-heavy BB10 OS. Not included in the box? A complimentary Chief Creative Officer business card with your name on it and Alicia Keys' dignity.

Before other carriers in the UK get their 4G networks up and running, EE's looking to bolster its customer base by tempting you with an LTE fling, rather than a long-term relationship. The network already has 12-month SIM-only plans available if you don't need a device, but today has launched 30-day SIM-only options for the commitment-phobic. That freedom comes with a £2 mark-up per month over the year-long plans, however: the cheapest option rings up at £23 every 30 days for 500MB of data, with a maximum cost of £63 for 20GB. Every price tier comes with unlimited texts and calls as standard, and if you're intrigued by a no-strings-attached trial month, you can snag a SIM at stores, online, or over the phone right now.

Back when Acer unveiled the Iconia A1 tablet, it slipped out an upgrade to its starterIconia B1 series, the B1-710. That refresh has at last surfaced in the US -- through the FCC, anyway. The 7-inch, WiFi-toting slate has cleared the FCC's approval process with its subtle design tweaks and doubled 1GB of RAM in tow. Unfortunately, Americans aren't much closer to actually buying one. While Canadians may get a turn when we've spotted a (currently unconfirmed) $230 Acer Canada listing, the new B1 is primarily bound for Europe. It should cost £110 / €129 (about $166) for the WiFi model's June release, and £129 / €179 (between $195 and $230) for a 3G-equipped B1-711 edition arriving in July.

Alcatel announced today that its One Touch Idol smartphone is now available for the US market, but without a carrier. Weighing in at only 110 grams, the supposed "world's lightest" handset will be sold unlocked for $300 via the company's website. Meant as an entry-level device, the specs betray its low-end status: you get a 4.7-inch qHD (960 x 540) IPS display, 512MB RAM, 4GB internal storage, an 8-megapixel camera and a 1.2GHz dual-core CPU with Android 4.1 in tow. Still, its quad-band GSM and 900 / 2100 MHz HSPA bands mean it'll work with either AT&T or T-Mobile, which should be good news to those who want carrier flexibility. If that sounds like a bargain to you, head on over to the source below to snag one for yourself.

Apple traditionally has big product announcements in the early spring, so around February both the mainstream press and the tech blogs began to circulate their favorite rumors (the iWatch, iTV). They also announced the date of the next Apple event, which this year was in March — except it didn't happen. 'Reliable sources' then confirmed it would be in April, then May and then — nothing. In withdrawal and with a notoriously secretive Apple offering no relief the tech journalists started to get cranky. The end result is a rash of petulant stories that insist Apple is desperate for new products, in trouble (with $150 billion dollars in the bank, I should be in such trouble) and in decline. The only ones desperate seem to be editors addicted to traffic-generating Apple announcements. Good news is on the horizon, though, as the Apple Worldwide Developer Conference starts June 10th."This was in evidence last night, as Apple CEO Tim Cook spoke to the press at the All Things D conference. Cook's statements were mostly the sort of vague, grandiose talk that gets fed to investors on an earnings call, but it's generating article after article because, hey, it's Tim Cook.

Airline-based network operator AeroMobile surveyed 2,000 UK consumers to find that 78 per cent use their phones while on holiday, even though 68 per cent claim they're worried about data roaming charges.
62 per cent of respondents claims texting is their preferred means of communicating, with 13 per cent using devices for social media access. Under a fifth browse the mobile while overseas – men are more likely to do so than women.
Meanwhile, a fifth of hardy Brits leave their phones at home. Interestingly, despite men being more web-happy while abroad, 26 per cent of men leave the phones at home, compared to 16 per cent of women.
Additionally, nearly 30 per cent of over 55s don't travel with a mobile phone, compared to just 13 per cent of 25-34 year olds.
Kevin Rogers, CEO of AeroMobile, said: "What’s clear from this research is that there is demand, particularly from the younger generation, to be connected whenever, wherever. In the past roaming has been a contentious issue, but we’re now seeing better deals available for consumers who want to use their mobile devices overseas.
"Growth on the AeroMobile network, which provides a roaming service inflight, points to increasing demand from consumers who are happy to roam. We’ve seen a huge appetite for both SMS and mobile internet services at 30,000 feet; so far in 2013 data usage per flight has doubled and we’ve seen a 40 per cent increase in the number of text messages sent per flight. We’re confident we’ll see even more growth in this area over the coming months."

Given the success of the original Galaxy Note and its sequel, there's little doubt a third installment of the super-sized handset line is on Samsung's to-launch list. Korean siteETNews claims to have heard the first legitimate confirmation of the Note III's existence, however, citing a Samsung official as its source. The insider apparently had much to say on plans for the camera, too. It's expected to be a 13-megapixel affair and could see other upgrades over its predecessor, including optical image stabilization and 3x optical zoom. According to the official, no final decisions on the camera have been made yet, but with less than four months to go until IFA (where the previous Notes have debuted), it's probably time to start nailing those specs down.

While we already knew that Verizon slipped support for AWS-based LTE into its edition of the Galaxy S 4, it didn't say how those extra frequencies would come alive. The carrier's Mike Haberman has just cleared the air(waves): he tells Bloomberg that Samsung's flagship will get a software update to support AWS bands. Haberman hasn't said when the patch will arrive, although it's contingent on the higher-capacity 4G network rolling out in the next few months. The GS4 isn't likely to be alone, whatever the timing. The Nokia Lumia 928 also supports AWS, and we've reached out to learn if and when the higher-tiered Windows Phone will get an upgrade to reach its full potential.

Independent developer programme brings ‘hack ‘n’ slash game to Samsung Apps store.
Developed by Belarusian-based Steel Monkeys, ‘sword and sandals hack ‘n’ slash’ game I, Gladiator is set be release globally and exclusively on Samsung Apps, courtesy of the 100% Indie developer programme.
The 100% Indie project represents the culmination of a new partnership between Chillingo – the world’s most successful independent games publisher – and Samsung.
Spearheaded by Chillingo founders Chris Byatte and Joe Wee, the programme is aimed at fuelling the mobile games developer community.
Denis Rybalko, PR manager at Steel Monkeys, commented: “Releasing I, Gladiator for Samsung Apps via the 100% Indie program was a great experience for our team. We were lucky to be supported by very responsive people. You don’t feel like the 100% Indie collective HAVE to help you; it feels like they really LIKE to help you; WANT to help you; and will DO THEIR BEST to help you! Sounds incredible but our game was supported and promoted for, well, no additional investment. So we sincerely recommend the 100% Indie program as a unique service. With its help you can release your games nice and easily.â€
Chris Byatte, Chillingo founder, also said: “When we launched the initiative in March we hoped we’d receive a lot of interest from indie developers globally and we’re delighted that so many of them have already joined the 100% Indie community. I, Gladiator is a great example of the quality of games that are coming through the programme.â€
Joe Wee, Chillingo founder, continued: “Steel Monkeys is just one of many developers who are now earning the best revenue shares in mobile gaming and will continue to do so until March 2015. We’re really proud of 100% Indie and hope more developers come and join us.â€

Samsung is to unveil several new products at an event in London on June 20th.
New Android devices are expected to be added to the firm’s flagship Galaxy brand of smartphones and tablets. Samsung is also expected to add some new products to its Ativ line of Windows 8 and Windows RT laptops and tablets.
A teaser image has been posted on Samsung Mobile’s official Twitter feed, implying there will be at lease three new devices.
Two of the images resemble the sides of tablets or notebooks, maybe even a super-slim smartphone.
The other is a little more mysterious. Could it be a camera of some sort…or even a smart watch?

Submitting to the ever demanding multi-colour needs of the modern smartphone consumer, LG is to release its Nexus 4 device in white.
Identical to the original Nexus 4 handset on the inside, the white device will sport the same specifications, including a 320ppi 4.7-inch HD display, eight-megapixel camera and a Snapdragon S4 processor.
Meanwhile, Android's latest 4.2 operating system will remain at the helm of the new handset.
LG has confirmed the device will land in Hong Kong first at the end of May, whilst making its European retail debut in the following months, as the device is rolled out throughout "the next several weeks."
However, despite the success of the Nexus 4 device, LG has also confirmed it will be the last of the series produced by the South Korean firm – or any Google powered device for that matter.
Talking with All About Phones, Kim Wong, European VP of LG Mobile, confirmed that the firm would halt its production of Google Android based devices, stating they have: "no added value for us without our own skins."
Wong also addressed the current state of the smartphone market as the motive behind the move, stating: "the current duopoly of Google and Apple is not healthy for the market."
The VP also highlighted that the firm will look to adopt other mobile operating systems for its products, without naming any specifically.

There's another Galaxy smartphone on the way folks, as Samsung has listed an S4 mini on its UK apps page.
Whilst not a complete surprise, as hearsay surrounding the device had continued to build for a while now, the device had yet to receive any form of official confirmation from Samsung.
Whether the South Korean firm actually intended to list the device is unknown, but the listing of the device on Samsung's own official apps page would certainly indicate the device is on the way.
Still not convinced? Well, the listing is all followed by another Samsung announcement that the firm will stage its Premiere 2013 event next month.
Samsung has itself confirmed that a number of new devices will be unveiled at the event, so it's fairly safe to assume that the S4 mini will be amongst them, and that the listing of the device is simply down to the firm jumping the gun.

Ukranian tennis player Sergiy Stakhovsky stopped play during a match at the French Open to use his iPhone to photograph a disputed line call.
The 27-year-old took a picture on his mobile phone in order to document the judge’s supposed error during his straight sets defeat to Richard Gasquet.
Stakhovsky photographed the tramlines and said he intended to show it to supervisors of the French Open in a bid to salvage his prize money.
This is not the first time the tennis player has whipped his phone out to argue a point during a match. Last month the world number 101 pulled the same stunt in Munich.
"Munich was a very close call which could go both ways, so I didn't really bother going to the supervisor and asking," he said.
"But this one is in a Grand Slam, so first of all, the fine is actually there, possibly, (and) I don't want to get it. So I'll try to explain myself. I don't know if it's going to work."
The tennis player later tweeted the image he took with his iPhone.

Saturn.emu v1.5.12 is released. Saturn.emu is a part of the emu-ex-plus-alpha multi-system emulation framework and emulates a Sega Saturn (based upon Yabause).
Notes/Issues:
- The core emulation is based on Yabause and can load cue/iso/bin files
- This app is considered beta and unsupported, do not report any issues for the time being
- Sound is disabled by default but is supported
- If the default auto-frameskip mode runs very slowly on your device, consider using a fixed frameskip which runs the game in slow-motion but offers better input responsiveness
- Dynarec for the SH CPUs is supported and enabled by default on Android & WebOS. When switching between SH modes, the setting is applied upon the next game launched, resetting a game in progress continues to use the current SH core. Currently this setting isn't saved.
- Save states are incompatible between the SH dynarec/interpreter and will crash if loaded in the incorrect mode
- The app doesn't have an icon so you'll see a generic one for now
Saturn.emu v1.5.12 Changelog:
* Fixed non-working Joystick Axis 1 as D-Pad setting from 1.5.11
* Improved text input with full text editing capabilities (selections, cut & paste, etc.)
* Option to control if the on-screen controls automatically re-appear when the screen is touched even if a gamepad is connected
