PPSSPP Git (2013/05/27) is compiled. PPSSPP is a fast and portable PSP emulator for Android, Windows, Mac, and Linux, written in C++.
PPSSPP Git Changelog:
* Merge pull request #1950 from mgaver/patch-5
Make on screen messages translatable
* Update EmuScreen.cpp
use shorten keys.
* Make on screen messages translatable
* Merge pull request #1949 from oioitff/atrac-fix
Build fix, sorry.
* Build fix, sorry.
* Merge pull request #1948 from jeid3/master
Build iOS fix
* Build ios fix
* Merge pull request #1947 from oioitff/atrac-fix
Implement low level atrac3 decoder.
* Implement low level atrac3 decoder.
* Merge pull request #1936 from unknownbrackets/texcache
Improve CLUT load performance, tweak hashing
* Don't bypass the secondary cache on minihash fail.
* Allow ConvertColors() to work as a copy op.
* Switch to a weaker, but faster clut hash.
* Make sure to update the CLUT if format changes.
Otherwise we throw away the loaded clut, which is no good.
* Don't hash the clut when it's not even used.
Many games load the clut even when it wasn't changed, and we don't flush
between when this happens. There shouldn't be any need to rehash the clut
either.
Technically, the clut could have actually changed, but this would
generally require them to clear the dcache or something in a way the GE
probably doesn't support.
* Fix a typo.
* Merge pull request #1945 from unknownbrackets/perf
Rewrite BlockAllocator in attempt to free memory faster
* Avoid a double lookup in FreeExact().
* Rewrite BlockAllocator in attempt to free faster.
And more importantly try to find that weird heap corruption, but no
luck...
* Merge pull request #1940 from unknownbrackets/mpeg-fix
Fix videos that never end
* Since we don't use readlength yet, don't add it.
This would actually go negative often enough, making us consume packets
more slowly than we should, or even never finish consuming. 4 is probably
too small, though.
* Merge pull request #1938 from unknownbrackets/symbol-map
Symbol map fixes
* Clear the debug symbol map on shutdown.
Instead of polluting the next game.
* Correctly detect bltzal as func calls in debug.
* Improve perf when loading a large debug map file.
* Merge pull request #1944 from unknownbrackets/reporting
Add reporting for branch in delay slot and cwd thing
* Add reporting for jumps in delay slots.
* Add some reporting in filesystem related code.
* Buildfix for Mac / iOS.
* Merge pull request #1937 from unknownbrackets/windows-ui
Fix cursor reset and pop ups in fullscreen
* Hide pop up windows in full screen.
Otherwise, they get in the way even though you can't see them.
* Show/hide the cursor correctly.
It uses a counter, so we may need to call it more than once.
* Merge pull request #1935 from unknownbrackets/modules
Get sceKernelStopModule() sorta working
* Remove comment.
* Initial implementation of sceKernelStopModule().
Not perfect but should be functional.
* Add a wait type for modules to handle return right.
* Get rid of the "root" return hack.
* Use a custom RA for module funcs. Not used yet.
But it will be.
* Wrap sceKernelGetThreadExitStatus().
So it's usable internally too.
* Merge pull request #1933 from Motaz-Alnuweiri/patch-2
Update PPSSPP.pro
* Update PPSSPP.pro
Hi, you can use "VERSION" Variable
----------------------------------
VERSION
This variable contains the version number of the application or library if either the app TEMPLATE or the lib TEMPLATE is specified.
* Merge pull request #1929 from Motaz-Alnuweiri/patch-1
Update PPSSPP.pro
* Update PPSSPP.pro
Hello, I changed PPSSPPQt version for Symbian from 0.7.5 to 0.7.6
* Turn off the use of uniform arrays in shaders as some devices don't like them, and the speedup seems to be very small if any.
* Merge pull request #1927 from unknownbrackets/scheduling2
Implement suspend/resume HLE for threads
* Disallow suspend/resume on current thread.
Might be some extra subtle things with callbacks/interrupts here...
* Initial attempt at a suspend/resume thread impl.
* Make sure we keep the suspend state around.
I assume it sticks around in this case.
* Merge pull request #1924 from unknownbrackets/scheduling
Fix sceKernelWakeupThread
* Return the moduleId in sceKernelUnloadModule().
Final Fantasy 4 very clearly requires this.
* Report unfinished code in sceKernelAllocateTls().
* Wrap the sleep/wakeup HLE funcs.
* Properly return success in sceKernelWakeupThread().
Fixes #1596, fixes #1796, possibly others. I can't believe how long
I stared at this code and debugged it without noticing such a simple
thing...
* Merge pull request #1923 from unknownbrackets/rtc-fix
Implement the sceRtc*Win32FileTime() funcs
* Remove UNIMPL from FileTime funcs, they work now.
* Implement the sceRtc*Win32FileTime() funcs.
* Merge pull request #1911 from aquanull/language
Make more menu screen items translatable, and...
* Make it possible to translate error screens.
* Tweak some menu screen items.
* Make more menu screen items translatable.
Update font atlas files.

While it may seem that all gaming eyes are on what is next from the likes of Microsoft and Sony in the console war, there are in fact some smaller new players hoping to gain a passionate following of their own.
The Gamestick, developed by British firm Playjam, is a portable games console based on Google Android's mobile operating system.
The core hardware is contained in a small stick that can be plugged into the HD socket on any modern television.
The project was funded via Kickstarter, with $647,658 (£427,750) raised by more than 5,000 backers.
However, some of those early supporters were left disappointed after the company announced the product would be delayed due to higher-than-expected demand.
Gamestick also has to compete with Ouya, another Kickstarter-funded console, which is already being shipped to early backers.
Playjam said it was victim of "the success we have created" - but it is now taking pre-orders via UK retailer Game for release on 5 July.
Anthony Johnson, chief marketing officer of Playjam, spoke to BBC technology reporter Dave Lee.

The Ouya remains a gray area in terms of profit for developers – it's still technically not available to the public, though plenty of Kickstarter backers and indies have consoles. To test out the Ouya's potential, real-world audience, UK developer James Coote took his dev kit to a local Game store and set up a demo station. After all, the Ouya is an "open" console and devs don't have to deal with any NDAs or legalese before showing it off publicly.
Coote worked with Game employees to set up a demo station on an old PS3 stand, and he spent the day showing off his own game and others on the Ouya. The tiny box wasn't connected to the internet, so players had a choice of games Coote had pre-loaded.
"The Ouya has also been criticised for having a laggy UI, but since there was no need to exit the game library and navigate around the rest of the UI, that particular problem didn't come up at all," Coote said.
Overall, the demo was a success, Coote said – though he didn't receive the foot traffic he had anticipated and he was "quite poor" at convincing anyone to throw down £10 for an Ouya pre-order.
"People responded really positively to the live demonstration, whether they were just watching myself or others play, or actively trying it out themselves," Coote said. "Also, not only being able to respond to customers' questions directly, but not being directly affiliated with Ouya, I was able to honestly address some of Ouya's shortcomings, which helped build trust and a rapport with customers."
Read all about Coote's experience with the Ouya at a brick-and-mortar store, and his thoughts for the console's future, right here.

Tetris Blitz is the latest attempt to pull apart the elegant rules of the seminal Russian puzzle game and rearrange them in search of fresh novelty, this time to give the game a version tailored for iOS and Android. Alexey Pajitnov, the original’s designer, has been in consultation with EA Salt Lake to ensure the essence of Tetris is protected. Nevertheless, it’s tempting to baulk at this recasting of one of the medium’s greats in the fashions of the day. Tetris is going freemium, will have Facebook integration, and is set to be stuffed with purchasable power-ups, with play regulated by a set time limit.“The original Tetris asked players the question, ‘How long can you last?’” says Tetris Blitz’s executive producer Jeff Peters. “But when you begin to improve at the game, you will last far longer than five minutes. Tetris Blitz is the answer to the question: ‘What does Tetris look like when fitted for our contemporary lifestyle?’” In truth, he is referring not so much to a ‘lifestyle’ as to popular windows of play within the contemporary lifestyle: the daily commute, the five minutes of peace while the baby is dozing, the kind of short time frames where other Blitz-like titles (Bejeweled Blitz, Candy Crush and so on) have found a wide audience. Now you have just two minutes to play a game of Tetris, and it’s impossible to fail.Pajitnov: “The idea of a timed Tetris game really isn’t new. Tetris Ultra [mode], which has the player racing against a two-minute timer to get the best score possible, has been around since at least as early as Tetris DX. Tetris Blitz certainly stands on its own as a brand-new variant on the Tetris game, complete with power-ups and cascades, but it’s not the first to introduce a fixed time limit.” Even so, these changes appear fundamental. Is this a breaking of sacrosanct rules? Not if the new focus is on score attack, EA claims.“The team is comprised of Tetris aficionados,” says Peters. “We’ve ensured that player strategies from the original game are relevant and usable here, too, despite the shift of focus.” Those strategies are encouraged and emphasised through what is likely to be Tetris Blitz’s most controversial addition: power-ups. Players can install three of these boosters before a game, and they lend a huge variety of different buffs and benefits during play. “There are players who have used the ‘well strategy’ for years, for example, where they build a single straight well in the middle of a tightly packed wall of blocks and finally slot a single column piece in there to clear four lines in a single move,” explains Peters. The Magnet power-up encourages this strategy by taking all of your blocks and pushing them to one side, thereby giving you an instant well.”

We've gotta give it to Microsoft... building a YouTube app for Windows Phone 8 that strips out advertising and allows users to download streaming videos was one hell of a way to get Google's attention about the lack of an official app for the platform -- even if it managed to attract ire at the same time. Now, multiple reports are coming in that both companies have reached an agreement of sorts, which will result in an app that's fully compliant with YouTube's Terms of Service in the coming weeks. You might've already guessed it, but unlike Microsoft's most recent conciliatory update to its YouTube app, the next version will serve up ads. You'll find a joint statement from both companies after the break. Now that the pair are learning to cooperate, might we suggest they take a look at Gmail?

When few (if any) web browsers do everything well, many of us have more than one client just to cover all the bases. The GO Launcher Dev Team's just-launched Next Browser for Android tries to solve this in the simplest way possible: it cherry picks features from established rivals. Sharing extensions from Dolphin? Check. Chrome'sfrequently visited pages? Check. Speed Dial from Opera? Check. There's even aFlipboard-style RSS reader. As there's also bookmark syncing and voice search, Next Browser is theoretically the only client that Android users could want. How well that pastiche works is another matter, but those who've been pining for an all-encompassing browser can give the new app a try at the source link.

It seems like every day we're getting a little bit closer to having tricorders, and today's no exception. Researchers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign have designed hardware and software that turns the iPhone into a powerful biosensor that's useful for toxin and pathogen testing as well as medical diagnosis. The package consists of a cradle that contains an assortment of lenses and filters which line up with the handset's camera, along with an app that guides the user through the testing process. At the core of the device is a photonic crystal slide which basically turns the iPhone into a high-resolution spectrometer. While the cradle only contains about $200 worth of parts, it's just as accurate as laboratory equipment costing tens of thousands of dollars, with the added bonus of being hand-held. The team just received an NSF grant to explore other applications for the device and is working on a cradle for Android phones. Hit the break for a demo video and a peek into the future.

With $671,400, you could buy roughly 2,040.7 base-model iPad minis before taxes.One unnamed buyer, however, just laid that amount out for a single Apple 1 from 1976. Auctioned through a Germany-based Sotheby's, The New York Times Bits blog notes the price beats out the firm's $640K record from another unit last November. Interestingly, the seller refurbished this latest Apple 1 to working condition, after paying only $40K for it privately. While it doesn't seem to have the original enclosure, we'd be remiss not to mention that the seller also had Steve Wozniak grace the motherboard with his signature. You'll find more info at the source, while we wrap our heads around how this makes last summer's auction price of $374.5K look like a relative steal.

As we in the U.S. settle in for Memorial Day weekend, this article points out how our cultural addiction to technology is making it less of a vacation than it used to be. 'The average smartphone user checks his or her device 150 times per day, or about once every six minutes. Meanwhile, government data from 2011 says 35 percent of us work on weekends, and those who do average five hours of labor, often without compensation — or even a thank you. The other 65 percent were probably too busy to answer surveyors' questions.' Even for those of us who don't have any work to do over the weekend, we'll probably end up reading all of our work-related emails as they roll in, and take time out of our day to think about what's going on — to the detriment of our weekend activities: 'A study at the University of California, San Francisco, found that new experiences fail to become long-term memories unless brains have downtime for review.' I imagine it's even worse for your average Slashdotter, who's likely plugged in to more technology at home and at work. How can we make our employers understand that downtime needs to remain downtime? 'It took labor unions 100 years to fight for nights and weekends off, some say, while smartphones took them away in about three years.

Apple could face a difficult time winning its court case against the U.S. Department of Justice over e-book pricing, according to the federal judge overseeing the trial. 'I believe that the government will be able to show at trial direct evidence that Apple knowingly participated in and facilitated a conspiracy to raise prices of e-books,' U.S. District Judge Denise Cote said during a May 23 pretrial hearing, according to Reuters, 'and that the circumstantial evidence in this case, including the terms of the agreements, will confirm that.' Apple's legal counsel is a bit perturbed over her comments. 'We strongly disagree with the court's preliminary statements about the case today,' Apple lawyer Orin Snyder wrote in a statement also reprinted by Reuters. The Justice Department has asserted that Apple, along with those publishers, conspired to raise retail e-book prices in tandem 'and eliminate price competition, substantially increasing prices paid by consumers.' Apple battles Amazon in the e-book space, with the latter company achieving great success over the past few years by driving down the price of e-books and Kindle e-readers; while Apple co-founder insisted in emails to News Corp executive James Murdoch (son of Rupert Murdoch), that Amazon's pricing was ultimately unsustainable, the online retailer shows no signs of flagging with regard to its publishing-industry clout.

Apple has launched a new commercial which claims more people listen to music on iPhone than any other phone.
The new ad entitled Music Every Day follows on from last month’s ad Photos Every Day, in which the firm claimed more photos are taken by iPhone than any other device. Seeing the theme yet?
Two bold statements so far from Apple...we wonder what next month’s TV ad will claim. ‘More storage space taken up by unidentified files than any other device’ perhaps?
Here’s the new advert, depicting loads of iPhone lovers listening to music that we never get to hear, which makes a change from the reality of having someone sit next to you on the bus with Apple's infamous white earphones in, spurting Nicki Minaj out of their ears directing into your face.

Given the popularity of smartphones, it's inevitable that they're damaged on occasion. But it would appear that iPhone users are paying more than most.
As the technology behind smart devices continues to evolve, the intricate process of producing them becomes increasingly complex, something that's having a direct impact on both the initial cost of the device, and the costs incurred when repairing it.
But a report by CNET has discovered that the repair costs of the iPhone 5 are significantly higher than its predecessors.
Within the report, it is noted that Apple charges $229 to replace a broken screen on the iPhone 5, which is a sizeable sum considering the device's price tag of $650 minus a pay monthly contract. Meanwhile, users who opt for Apple's AppleCare warranty service face a reduced fee of $49.
The increase of these heightened costs is further highlighted when compared to the repair costs of previous iPhone devices. Just two years ago, a broken screen repair from Apple cost $199.
But despite the alleged complexity of the iPhone 5's design, multiple repair sites maintain that the device is one of the easiest devices to repair, which would put the inflated repair costs into question.
Meanwhile, a number of third-party repair outlets are unable to provide a repair service for the iPhone 5 given the costs involved.
Users expect to pay a premium to have their devices repaired, potentially at a higher rate from Apple directly. But given the initial cost of smart devices today, the rate of inflation on repair costs could soon see consumers paying thousands to purchase a device and keep its condition maintained.
Now might be a good time to buy that reinforced case. One drop might be more costly than you first anticipate.

It's surely not the first contraption to bring an iDevice to a weapon, but the Inteliscope does appear to be one of the first to take itself seriously. It's designed to secure an iPhone 4 / 4S / 5 or iPod touch to any firearm with a Picatinny (Mil-STD-1913) or Weaver tactical rail, enabling shooters to peek around corners with no head exposure. Naturally, the mount itself wouldn't be all that attractive without an accompanying app. The software portion of the equation offers up custom crosshairs, a 5x digital zoom, video recording capabilities, ballistics / firearm data, a built-in compass and a shot timer. There's also a flashlight and strobe feature, information about local prevailing winds and a constant check on your location. Folks interested in pre-ordering can do so at the source link for $69.99, with initial shipments expected to head out in June.
