Samsung clearly thinks the flip-phone is here to stay. After all, why else would it launch two new clamshells in a matter of weeks? Today, the tech giant debuted the Galaxy Golden, which is strikingly similar to the Folder that leaked under an almost identical model number just prior to the Hennessey's official arrival. The Golden sports dual 3.7-inch Super AMOLED screens, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, a 1.7GHz dual-core processor and an 8MP camera. There's a slew of features aimed at older folks too, like an "easy mode" that can optimize the home screen, a pedometer that works with S Health, a business card recognition function and even an FM radio. Koreans in their golden years with a spare 790,000 won (if Google Translate is to be trusted), or just over $700, might appreciate these tailored features, as they'll probably be on-board with the aging form factor, too.

Sure, Microsoft's battle for next-gen supremacy starts in November, but those who lean on Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 for their gaming just got a little something to look forward to. Gameloft is readying a total of 15 games that'll arrive within the next 12 months and launch simultaneously on both platforms. Before the year's up, you can expect to see Asphalt 8: Airborne, Despicable Me: Minion Rush, Dungeon Hunter 4,Six Guns, Total Conquest and UNO & Friends, with the remaining games breaking cover next year. The recently-acquired Amiga Games will churn out 50 titles of its own onto Microsoft's desktop and mobile OS before year's end, and could bump the total up to 500 afterwards. Details on which games we'll see first weren't divulged, but the outfit says they'll make use of the operating system's features such as live tiles and Snap and Share, as well as cross-platform data sharing. For a look at what's to come, head past the break for a fresh Asphalt 8 trailer.

All of the attention on Android-powered mobile gaming has paid off: Google Play is now in second place behind iOS when it comes to mobile gamer spending. A report from IDC and App Annie that tallies up Q2 2013 purchases indicates that Google's app repository has surpassed gaming-specific devices like Nintendo's 3DS and Sony's PlayStation Vita for the first time. The numbers also show that funds spent in both iOS App Store and Google Play combined account for around four times that of dedicated devices. It's worth noting that there are a few more smartphones and tablets in the hands of consumers than the aforementioned handhelds, but content for the latter usually carries a higher price tag. Of course, integration with the next-gen PS4 and a price cut is on the horizon for the Vita, so that functionality could help boost Sony's numbers next time around.

If you are a BlackBerry owner, navigate to BlackBerry World (or just visit the website) and you will find that developer S4BB has developed over 47k apps for the BB platform. Unsurprisingly, most of them are just spammy apps that don't add any value. Apps like 'Restart Me Free,' 'Daily Quote,' 'Lock for SMS,' 'Search for Amazon,' 'Silent Foto Free' are just a few among the thousands of apps on BlackBerry World that actually have no utility whatsoever. BlackBerry announced back in May that developers were increasingly interested in making apps for the platform, and that BlackBerry World had more than 120,000 apps. This raises questions about the authenticity of the claims, and about the approval process that's been accepting these apps. S4BB may have a few useful apps for the platform, but that doesn't mean all of their apps are of 'A' quality. A statement from BlackBerry said, 'Developers in all app stores employ a number of different monetization tactics. BlackBerry World is an open market for developers and we let market forces dictate the success or failure of these tactics.

Windows Phone 8 looks to become a gamer's paradise with big titles like Asphalt 8: Airborne on the way.
Gameloft has proven its worth time and time again, with latest Q2 sales figures climbing ten per cent year-on-year to reach €55.2 million.
Microsoft, meanwhile, is still a work in progress. That said, the company's Windows Phone OS overtook BlackBerry sales in Q2 and secured the third place behind Android and iOS.
Ten of Gameloft's titles are already available on Windows Phone 8, but the publisher and Microsoft are pushing forward to develop 15 new titles for the OS and Windows 8, which comes in a move to make the platform more attractive to non-users and more of a challenge for other platforms.
Asphalt 8: Airborne and Dungeon Hunter 4 will launch this autumn, while over titles will be rolled out across the next 12 months.
Baudouin Corman, VP of publishing for the Americas, Gameloft, said: "Gameloft’s AAA-quality games are a perfect match for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8. Microsoft’s platforms provide a great environment for serious and deeply engaging games. Gameloft will bring its full support, taking advantage of the platforms’ specific features."
Steve Guggenheimer, corporate VP of developer and platform evangelism, Microsoft, added: "We strive to make Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 the best platform for gaming. With top gaming companies such as Gameloft investing in the platform, it is evident that there is no better time for game developers and gamers alike to choose Windows."

Beyond: Two Souls features two-player, co-op multiplayer, with one person controlling Jodi Holmes, the main protagonist, and the other controlling of Aiden, the ghost entity tethered to her entire existence. Players pass control of the single screen back and forth by pressing triangle. Yes, press triangle to Jodi.
In multiplayer or solo, Beyond is playable with iOS and Android touchscreen devices, with the "Beyond Touch" app. It's a free app that allows players to control a character – it's a blank slate, with no buttons or on-screen sticks, that players use like a touchpad. Slide one finger around the screen and the character moves. The game automatically switches to easy mode when a touchscreen controller is in use.
Creator David Cage said the touchscreen feature is an attempt to reel in casual players or those who don't play games often. Most people are comfortable with a smartphone, he argued. However, avid players will want to use the DualShock controller, Cage said.

Android developers keen on integrating more core OS functionality into their apps will be glad to know that the latest update to Google Play Services has arrived. Version 3.2 of the software offers a number of location-based services that devs can incorporate into their apps, such as a low-power option when requesting updates, support for hardware-based GPS geofencing and a "Snapshot" feature that removes the need for a constantly interactive map. The update also makes it easier to incorporate content sharing with G+, adds a compass mode in the Photo Sphere viewer, promises a more efficient InstantBuy implementation and better performance in general. Those interested in tinkering with the new and improved Play Services can download an updated Google APIs emulator image through the Android SDK Manager right now.

One of the biggest challenges Microsoft has faced with its Windows Phone platform is that it's far behind in the apps race against iOS and Android. One way to close the gap is to lower the barrier to entry for new app devs, and Microsoft has done so with Windows Phone App Studio, a hosted service that lets you build applications without actually writing any code. The description of how App Studio works may leave you wondering how useful or exciting the apps created will be, but a surge of developer interest during the current beta program has surprised even Microsoft with its scope.

The iPhone 5 could be hung up with the roll out of the iPhone 5C and 5S.
Not only is it expected that the iPhone 5 will cease to exist once the 5C and 5S are both launched, the rumoured 'budget iPhone' may turn out to just be the iPhone 4S - sold as a cheaper option in developing countries.
The new models are expected to be released next month, with the gold tinted iPhone 5S replacing the top-end model and the 5C being the 'cheaper' option, possibly priced at around $400 - $500. If this is the budget model, it makes us wonder exactly whose budget they are going by!
Expectations were raised when Apple appeared to be answering a demand for a more affordable device that didn't entail accepting the leftovers of older models and platforms, leaving iFans left behind in its technological advancements.
Alas, even though Android has introduced a number of cheaper phones, and Nokia even offered access to its higher end models with its £200 Lumia 625, Apple has dug its heels in.
The high-end iPhone 5S is expected to outsell the 5C. With new features including a fingerprint reader, 128GB storage and the gold tinted bling - it is certainly the more tempting option regardless of price.
Even though fans will undoubtedly grumble about the price tag of both devices - money will be handed over no matter how begrudgingly, and Apple knows this.
The new phones are expected for general release in Q3 this year, with shipments predicted to surge by 438 per cent for the 5S and 122 per cent for the 5C - if this is so, Apple will see iPhone sales skyrocket to around 160 million units.
As for a budget device, it looks as though we are going to have to settle for the iPhone 4S with the iOS7 update. Sadly our trusty iPhone 4s - which won't support the iOS7 platform, may be joining the 3G in the iPhone graveyard.
RiPhone.

Apple didn’t invent tablet computers when it launched theiPad in 2010 – but it did instantly make them popular devices, something which you couldn’t really describe them as before.
In fact the name iPad, laughed at to begin with for sounding like some kind of toiletry, is now more or less synonymous with tablets – much like iPod became to MP3 players.
Subsequent releases have stuck with the same basic design – it is after all a slab of metal with a touchscreen on one side.
There have been specification improvements with each iteration of course – and a number have been speculated on for the next model, what we can only reasonably presume will be called the iPad 5.
iPad 5 release date
iPad release dates are somewhat more erratic than iPhone ones – but you can more or less expect a new one once a year.
The iPad 4 was announced in October 2012 so we’ll more or less be due one by the time iOS7 is released in September, which is also when the next iPhone 6 or iPhone 5s is expected.
iPad 5 specs
Android/Samsung/other phone firm fanboys have often lambasted Apple for not having NFC. The iPad 5 is rumoured to have it, however.
The tech allows you to transfer data between two devices by tapping them together. If it is to appear on the iPad 5, you’d expect it to swiftly appear on the latest versions of the iPhone and iPad Mini as well.
In terms of processor and storage sizes – probably you can expect a slightly more powerful former and not much change on the latter (there hasn’t been giant leaps in hard drive tech since the iPad 4, so 16GB, 32GB and 64GB seem likely).
You can certainly find more specific predictions on the web, but it seems fairly arbitrary to make them in a total information vacuum.
It’s more or less expected the iPad 5 will be a bit thinner and lighter than the iPad 4 – which makes sense. But it’s worth noting the iPad 4 was a tad porkier than the iPad 3.
According to some, perhaps questionable, photos the case will also be more ‘angular’, ditching the rounded corners we’ve seen previously.
Other pictures seem to imply an aluminium rear shell, and an apparently more svelte design.
There are also rumours the iPad 5 will have film-based panels, which are thinner and lighter, as seen on the iPad Mini.
iPad 5 iOS7
With iOS7 set for a September release, you can be about as certain as you can with anything to do with Apple that it will feature on the iPad 5.
The new operating system has been revamped by Johnny Ive – Apple’s design guru who helped mastermind a lot of the look of Apple’s hardware.
A lot of it will be a spruce up of the way it looks, but there are also new features expected such as an updated Siri.
iPad 5 inductive charging case?
Inductive charging smart covers could appear with the iPad 5 – according to this patent, which is a flip case armed with the wireless charging tech.
It’s unclear how such a thing would be used – whether it’s to charge the iPad itself from its stores (presumably you could charge both case and iPad and enjoy extra long battery life for a plane journey or what have you).
It could also be for popping an iPhone on, to charge your smaller gadgets from your larger.
Or both. Or neither.

The Samsung Galaxy Gear – the tech giant’s supposed upcoming gizmo extraordinaire – has had its features fleshed out somewhat, according to multiple sources speaking to Gigaom.
The Samsung Galaxy Gear hasn’t been confirmed by Samsung as such – but a stream of leaks seem to shore up speculation towards the smartwatche's launch, and Samsung does seem to have trademarked the name in reference to a wearable digital electronic device.
So, take it as a given the following is according to these unnamed sources, as opposed to confirmed information:
Samsung Galaxy Gear release date
There will be a launch event on September 4th in both New York and Berlin, with the possibility of a pop up stand in Times square to flog the devices.
Samsung Galaxy Gear specs
The Galaxy Gear smartwatch will have a square screen with a high quality OLED displays, and will be 2.5 inches in diameter.
It will have a dual core processor, and a ‘pretty decent’ battery life (whatever that means).
There will be a camera integrated into the strap, built in speakers, NFC, and Bluetooth LE connectivity.
A movement sensing accelerometer will allow it to be switched on simply by moving it towards the face.
Touch, swipe and other gesture controls will also feature.
Galaxy Gear smartwatch apps
It will be based on Android 4.1 and 4.2 – and there will be tight integration with smartphones and tablets – the Samsung Galaxy range.
The example given is swiping through notifications on the watch, pausing at an important email – then picking up a heftier device such as your Samsung Galaxy Tab and reading the mail in full.
There will also be Twitter and Facebook integration as standard, and a special watch manager app
Apparently the apps will be acquired through the Samsung App store, not through Google Play. What this will mean is you’d need a Samsung smartphone or tab to use it at all.

Dragon Age publisher EA has announced Heroes of Dragon Age, a new combat-focused free-to-play mobile spin-off set in the world of BioWare's RPG series.Heroes of Dragon Age is being developed by EA Capital Games, one of the publisher's mobile-focused studios. You'll be able to build a party of heroes and monsters from (presumably random and paid-for) packs of new fighters. These characters and critters will "span Dragon Age lore", EA has promised - so look out for familiar faces from the console games so far.Other Heroes of Dragon Age details such as a release date or launch platforms are still scarce. EA describes it as a "cross-platform" title though, so releases on at least iPhone and Android look likely.

The new device is said to be on its way for release next month, meaning Samsung will have beaten Apple to the punch in the race of the smartwatch, which has been going on for some time now.
The Galaxy Gear will be able to make calls, surf the web and handle emails - as well as tell the time, obviously.
The watch will be unveiled on the 4th September just before the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin and the same day as the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
Apple's iWatch experienced a bit of bother last month as it suffered from hard engineering problems causing its release to be delayed, meaning it has been left behind and could prove to be damaging to its fan-base as the Android powered device will attract new customers to the platform, potentially boosting sales of smartphones, tablets and even TVs.
The Galaxy Gear won't unfortunately have a flexible screen as previously rumoured, however Samsung are still working on developing a bendable display.

The progression of our gadget usage trends.
There are 397 million active iOS devices globally, with iPhone owning a 72 per cent share of the iOS market and iPads taking 28 per cent, reported Flurry.
The activities on each device differ rather a lot as well with value shoppers more likely to use their iPhone to scan barcodes and find bargains.
Single people, as well as hip urban lifestyles use theirs most to socialise, while new mothers use the iPhone in the pursuit of goods, services, and support.
As children get older, mothers device usage changes - using the iPad more often for activities such as education and entertainment for their children. However those who much prefer the tablet are more likely to be pet owners, and home design enthusiasts, as well small business owners, who could be working from home."
iPad owners spend 42 per cent more time on apps than on an iPhone - however the time spent on a device over all depends on which category is being viewed at the time.
iPhone owners spent 13 times as much time on navigation and travel apps, and use their phone more often for health and fitness apps that tracking exercise.
iUsers tend to use their iPad most between 6pm and 11pm, when they have an increased amount of time to read and play games. At night the iPhone takes over between 2am and 4am.
The media multitaskers amongst us - of which there around 53 per cent in the UK - tend to use both devices throughout the day. As an example, during the day the phone can be used to keep in contact with friends and family, where as the iPad will be used in a more professional manner.
Developers are going to have to get increasingly smart if they are going to catch up with the ever changing trends.

An HTC One X smartphone has allegedly caught fire in Taiwan while on charge.
According to the owner, he saw the phone catch fire and start to melt. Luckily, he managed to turn the power off to the phone and was unhurt in the incident.
This isn’t the first time someone has claimed their smartphone has caught fire.
Last year, video footage emerged of an iPhone exploding while in a user’s pocket.
More recently, there are reports that Samsung phones have caught fire in Germany and Dubai.
After a number of recent reports in China that Apple users have been injured by their iPhones, many have put the blame down to faulty chargers. Apple has even started a charger trade-in program in many countries around the world, offering consumers a discount on official chargers when they bring an unofficial one to an Apple store.
Also last year, an Irish Samsung Galaxy S3 user claimed his phone exploded while charging in his car. This actually turned out to be a hoax and the user had microwaved the phone.
It is unknown if the owner of the HTC One X was using an official charger.
