We've seen AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon commit to releasing the LG G2 this fall... but where's Sprint's version? Don't worry, fans, the carrier hasn't forgotten you. Sprint now says it will take pre-orders for the $200 Android flagship starting on October 11th, with a release "in time for the holidays." In return for the wait, the provider is giving out freeQuickWindow covers to everyone who pre-orders a G2 through its website. We doubt that the gift will quell the jealousy of Sprint customers whose friends get a G2 weeks in advance, but the more patient among those subscribers can register their interest at the source link.

Tizen, the progeny of MeeGo, LiMo and Bada, hasn't exactly set the world on fire. But even if manufacturers and consumers aren't clamoring for yet another smartphone platform, that doesn't mean Samsung and Intel are simply going to let the OS wither and die. In fact, version 3.0 of the UI is well on its way, and it appears to be up and running Galaxy S 4 hardware. The new look is flatter, squarer and much more inline with current design trends. Gone are the slightly cartoonish and round elements that have now been adopted by Mozilla for Firefox OS. The bright and varied color palate remains, however, giving Tizen a much more whimsical appearance than Android or Windows Phone. Though the images at the source link are hardly a thorough tour of the new UI, you can see that there are detailed lockscreen alerts and you can get a quick glance at the music player. Now it's just a waiting game to see if Samsung will actually release a high-end Tizen phone based on the S 4 to consumers... but we're not exactly holding our breath.

There seems little doubt that much of the Galaxy Gear's success or failure will hinge on the selection of apps that arrive on smartwatch. Samsung is making a strong push for third-party software (even in the face of limited device storage), courting a big cross section of developers at places like Path and eBay for its wearable. Popular messaging app Snapchat will also be hitting the device in the form of Snapchat Micro. As you'd expect, the app harnesses the Gear's 1.9-megapixel camera to send self-destructing images. The company's founder told Techcrunch, "Our team is constantly looking at ways to reduce the time between our experience of a moment and our ability to share it." Walking around with a camera on your wrist is certainly one way to go about it.

Crowdfunding site Kickstarter has suspended Ouya exclusive Elementary, My Dear Holmes.
Holmes was one of two games to arouse suspicions late last month after receiving a number of not only unusually high pledges, but also pledges from accounts using fake or celebrity names.
Both Holmes and another title, Gridiron Thunder, were aiming for funding under Ouya’s Free The Games Games Fund that matches any funds raised on Kickstarter (up to $250k) for titles that pledge Ouya exclusivity.
The accusation is that both games have faked pledges in order to secure what would effectively amount to free funding from Ouya.
"Kickstarter did not provide a reason for the suspension of the campaign, instead stating that they do not comment on suspensions,” the CEO of Holmes developer Victory Square Sam Chandola told Kotaku.
“Victory Square Games definitely denies setting up a Kickstarter account or accounts to fund its own projects, or asking any other person or organization to do so on its behalf.
“The issues that were raised were quite alarming, and we wanted nothing to do with it, so I wrote to Ouya, Kickstarter and Amazon informing them of the situation. My hope had been that Kickstarter would investigate the matter and cancel any pledges from accounts that were deemed suspicious.”
Chandola added that since the suspension he has received backing from some unspecified VC firms and still intends to produce the project. He would not confirm whether or not the game would remain Ouya exclusive.
Ouya’s stance remains non-committal. It told Kotaku that it only pays out on Fee The Games Fund titles that are successfully Kickstarted – therefore Holmes will not receive any cash unless Kickstarter lifts its suspension.
Gridiron Thunder, however, is still in line to receive $171k in Ouya funding, despite the many questions that surround its pitch.
The saga is generating a fair bit of negative feeling online amongst developers.
Thomas Was Alone creator Mike Bithell was particularly vocal with his criticism on Twitter over the weekend, stating: “A few rich guys manipulating OUYA into giving them a ton of money for a shoddy thing. No Ouya exclusive can get that amount without nonsense like this. Could a high profile indie with an awesome pitch get up to $50k on Kickstarter with a six month Ouya exclusivity? I'm struggling to imagine that actually being possible i.e. this scheme cannot fund legitimate projects.
“There's no way I want to bring a project to a system run by the kinda people who would come up with such a silly scheme. It's a dumb PR stunt, which is throwing money at charlatans and keeping great projects off their platform.”
The threat to omit Ouya from any future development plans was backed by other developers, too, including Super Hexagon and VVVVVV creator Terry Cavanagh.

An Ohio man has sued Apple over its “deceptive and unfair sales practices” concerning the iTunes season pass for the TV show Breaking Bad.
Noam Lazebnik is arguing that the second half of the fifth season of Breaking Bad, which is airing a year after the first half, has been classified as a “different season” by Apple, “expecting individuals who had already purchased Season 5 to pony up another $22.99 [for HD] or $14.99 [for standard definition]”.
Lazebnik states in the lawsuit that Apple had misled the iTunes customers who purchased the Season 5 season pass, with Apple “evidently informing its customers who inquired that ‘Season 5’ would include all 16 episodes”, while the pass actually only granted access to the first eight episodes.
He then goes on to justify his stance by explaining that AMC, the production company that owns Breaking Bad, has previously stated that “the final season [of Breaking Bad] consists of 16 episodes”.
Lazebnik’s introduction to the class action complaint begins: “When a consumer buys a ticket to a football game, he does not have to leave at halftime. When a consumer buys an opera ticket, he does not get kicked out at intermission. When a consumer buys a ‘Season Pass’ to a full season of a television show on iTunes, that consumer should get access to the whole season.”

A leaker-constructed shell of the fifth-generation iPad appears to show the best idea yet of what Apple’s new tablet might look like.
The case, built by Apple leaker Sonny Dickson, combines components claimed to be that of the iPad 5. Dickson’s images show the shell sat on top of and beside the iPad 4, showing a thinner surrounding bezel and speaker design similar to that of the iPad Mini. If accurate, the shell’s design aligns with previous rumours that the iPad 5 would take inspiration from the Mini to shrink its form factor.
The case also appears to slant less on its edges than its predecessor, seeming to adopt a shape more like the first-generation iPad.
Missing from the assembled case is the plastic insert used to hold previous iPad iterations’ radio antennae, which was featured on leaked parts earlier this year.

A "near 100% replica" of the Commodore 64 version of Ultima IV is now available for download on the iOS App Store.
The port was developed by Mythic Entertainment using the emulation technology seen in Elite Systems Group's C64: Elite Collection. The iOS iteration of Ultima IV includes digital copies of the manual and other documents found in the game's original 1985 release, as well as a comprehensive walkthrough and new player guide courtesy GameFAQs. Most helpfully, Ultima IV: C64automatically saves player progress whenever the game is closed.
Ultima IV: C64 is an utterly free download, with no microtransactions to speak of. Simply download Ultima IV: C64 and it's yours.

Throwing some cold water on the buzz surrounding the Galaxy Gear Smartwatch launch, The New Yorker's Matt Buchanan questions how smart a watch can really be. Calling offerings like the Galaxy Gear useful but not the stuff of dreams and revolutions, Buchanan writes, 'So there remains a strange undercurrent of hope that somebody-Apple-will figure out, soon, some grander vision for wearable technology, transforming it from something that people have vaguely imagined into something people intensely desire. It did it for smartphones, once, and again, for tablets. The question that Apple has been charged with, since nobody has definitively answered it yet, is whether the lack of an invention that truly carries us beyond the last five hundred years of wrist-mounted technology is the result of a failure of imagination or simply a fact of nature-that a watch will always just be a watch, no matter how smart it might think it is.' So, will you be an early adopter and drink Samsung's or Sony's smartwatch Kool-Aid, wait to see what Apple comes up with, or hold out for aWindows Forearm Pad 8?"

TechRadar reports today the first major public-facing move that Microsoft has made with its newly acquired Nokia devices business:"The headline-making Nokia Lumia 1020 smartphone-cum-camera is now available for $100 less in the United States, potentially a sign that Microsoft is already ringing the changes at Nokia. The Microsoft Store stateside is now selling the 41-megapixel Windows Phone 8 handset for $199 (around £127, AU$216) on a two-year contract, compared with Nokia's lofty $299 (around £191, AU$325) launch price. The price is being matched by the AT&T network, but Microsoft is going one better (for a limited time) and chucking in the camera grip accessory for everyone who picks up the device. Early indications are that the heavily-hyped Lumia 1020 hasn't been flying off the shelves, so perhaps this price cut can offer Microsoft a boost in the early stages of its Nokia stewardship."
