Appleâs new iPhone 5S will launch on September 20th, but customers wonât be able to preorder the smartphone.
Following the phoneâs announcement by Apple alongside thecheaper iPhone 5C, Apple has slowly released further details about several new features, including the long-rumoured fingerprint scanner.
Apple has also spoken about the 8 megapixel 'iSight' camera and 'True Tone' flash system on the 5S, as well as mentioning improvements contained in iOS 7, including iTunes Radio, "a free internet radio service based on the music you listen to on iTunes."
Apple has also said that any customer who buys either the 5S or 5C at an Apple retail store will be offered the free 'Personal Setup' service, which aims to assist customers in setting up their email, showing apps from the App Store and showing them how to use other services.
In the UK, the new iPhones will be available through EE, O2, Three, Carphone Warehouse, Phones 4u and any Apple Authorised Resellers.
For the SIM-free models, Apple has posted RRPs of ÂŁ549 for the 16GB 5S, ÂŁ629 for the 32GB model and ÂŁ707 for the largest-storage 64GB version.
O2 has already announced its tariffs and contract details for the 5S, with the phone available from ÂŁ37 a month with an upfront fee of ÂŁ119.99 for a 16GB 5S, unlimited minutes and texts and 1GB of 3G data.
For ÂŁ10 more, customers can add 5GB of faster speed 4G data.
Vodafone have also released details of its prices, with the 4G-enabled 5S able to access Vodafone's 'Ultrafast' 4G network from launch day with either Sky Sports Mobile TV or Spotify Premium included.
The 5S will be available on both Vodafone's Red 4G and Red 3G 24-month plans. Vodafone is also offering 4G-ready SIM Only plans from ÂŁ26 and 12-month plans.
The 24-month Red 4G tariff starts at ÂŁ47 monthly with a ÂŁ79 charge for the 16GB 5S, 6GB of data and six months of Sky Sports or Spotify and stretches up to ÂŁ57 with a ÂŁ99 one-off fee for a 64GB 5S, 12GB of montly data and 24 months of Sky Sports or Spotify.
Vodafone says that its 4G-ready plans come with "a minimum of 6GB data (thatâs the standard 2GB you get with Vodafone Red 4G-ready plus the â4GB bonusâ which is an extra 4GB per month for the duration of your contract for anyone who signs up before the end of October), unlimited calls and texts and a choice of either Sky Sports Mobile TV or Spotify Premium."
As with O2, Vodafone is offering a 4G upgrade price promise. Existing customers with an iPhone 5, Samsung SIII or Galaxy Note II can upgrade to the 5S early. Vodafone will knock 75 per cent off of the customers' remaining contract charges, let them upgrade early and start a new 4G plan
While the lack of a preorder suggests Apple expects the 5S to sell quickly, reports have come in suggesting consumers may not rush to get their hands on one.

San Francisco developer MogoTXT has delayed controversial Ouya exclusive Gridiron Thunder by two weeks and released a new gameplay video that shows off the latest build.Gridiron Thunder launches on 30th September 2013 after MogoTXT decided to add "some more features and polish", the studio said in an update on Kickstarter. The game is at the centre of a controversy over Ouya's $1 million Free the Games Fund, which pledged to match donations made to Kickstarter-funded games as long as they raised at least $50,000. In return, Ouya wants six months of exclusivity on its micro-console.Gridiron Thunder hit the headlines after it raised $171,009 from just 183 backers - much more than the $75,000 goal. That means backers, on average, pledged $934.48 per person. As a result, some observers have labelled the crowdfunding drive a "scam", although the developer has denied any wrongdoing, saying it benefited from wealthy backers in Silicon Valley and the sports industry. As a result, MogoTXT is set to receive $171,009 from Ouya - that's on top of the Kickstarter money. The developer told Joystiq last week that Kickstarter had conducted a full investigation and found no evidence of wrongdoing. It plans to release the game for all Android and iOS devices when the six-month Ouya exclusivity ends.As for Ouya, it's yet to directly address the controversy around Gridiron Thunder and other Free the Games Fund titles - a decision that's angered a number of indie developers.

You can stop wondering when AT&T will let you plunk down cash for a Galaxy Gear: the carrier has just announced that it will start taking pre-orders for Samsung's smartwatch at 12:01AM ET tomorrow, September 17th.AT&T hasn't detailed pricing or a final release date, although Samsung has previously suggested that the Galaxy Gear should reach the US by October for $299. Given the pre-order timing, we wouldn't be surprised if the Gear arrives shortly after the Galaxy Note 3.

"As noted by CNET, Apple hasn't released data on the number of iPhone 5C units it presold in the device's first 24 hours of availabilityâa first for the iPhone since 2009. Why is that? Reporter Josh Lowensohn speculates that iPhone 5C sales 'may not be as impressive when stacked up against tallies from previous years,' with one outside analyst suggesting that Apple racked up 1 million iPhone 5C preorders last Friday, or roughly half the 2 million presales scored by the iPhone 5 on its first day of ordering availability last year. However well the iPhone 5C ends up performing on the open market, Apple's decision to launch two iPhones this yearârather than a single 'hero' deviceâcould result in self-cannibalism, as users who would've bought the iPhone 5S instead gravitate toward the cheaper option. Cannibalism is a topic that Apple knows well, as it's been dealing with the iPhone cannibalizing the iPod for the past several years; but a new iPhone eating away at another new iPhone is fresh territory for the company. During earnings calls, Apple CEO Tim Cook likes to argue that cannibalizationâwhether iPhones feeding off the iPod, or the iPad taking the place of MacBooksâis a good thing, so long as it's Apple products eating other Apple products. But it's far more questionable whether he would welcome the iPhone 5Câalmost certainly a low-margin device, despite its current-generation components and plastic bodyâtaking a bite out of the more expensive, and presumably higher-margin iPhone 5S. Margin erosion remains a prime concern of investors and Apple watchers; anything that contributes to that erosion is bound to be viewed unfavorably."

A Grand Theft Auto V app has just hit iOS courtesy of Rockstar.
Itâs called iFruit â you may well recognise that from the mock-Apple branding that appears in-game and has featured on some of the pre-release promotional material.
Once downloaded the app offers two separate components.
The first is called Los Santos Customs â a vehicle customisation tool. With it you can construct a vehicle and have it waiting for you the next time you boot up the game. You can also reserve a custom licence plate for use in GTA Online.
The other feature is called Chop the Dog. Chop is the pet of GTA V character Franklin. Attending to him in the app will see a boost to his efforts in GTA V, encouraging new behaviour such as the sniffing out of hidden items. Users will even be able to teach him tricks that he would not otherwise perform.
The app also features a GTA V news feed and Rocktar Games Social Club integration.

Rockstar's blockbuster sequel could ship 20 million units and generate a further $500m by March 2014
Grand Theft Auto V will generate $1bn in revenue within a month of its launch, analyst firm Baird Equity Research has claimed.
By comparison, GTA IV made $900m during its first month, shipping roughly 3.6m units on day one and making $500m in its first week. Through to the end of March 2014 Baird predicts GTA V shipments of 20m units and $1.5bn in sales.
As impressive as all these numbers sound, that would mean GTA V would actually fall short of the record-breaking performance posted by Call of Duty: Black Ops II.
The Treyarch shooter sold 7.5m copies in its first day alone, making over $500m. Revenues exceeded $800m in its first five days and hit $1bn in just 15 days.

Jolla to cooperate with app stores to ensure seamless downloads.
Jollaâs Sailfish OS will now be able to take full advantage of the Android app ecosystem, meaning that popular apps such as Instagram, WhatsApp and Spotify will run directly on the platform.
Jolla has also developed Sailfish OS to run on common hardware produced for Android, particularly smartphones and tablets.
Now any device vendor using Sailfish will be able to fully utilise the existing Android hardware ecosystem.
Tomi PienimĂ€ki, CEO of Jolla, said: âWe believe Sailfish with Android compatibility is a highly relevant mobile operating system option for major mobile companies in Europe and in Asia. We are already in discussions with several major Asian vendors regarding this opportunity.â
Jolla has said that since Microsoftâs $7.2 billion deal for Nokiaâs mobile business, it has seen the strategic position of its operating system strengthen, and has experienced an increase in demand.
So much so, that it will be offering another pre-order opportunity for its device later this week, from jolla.com.

Customers appear to have gone bananas for the yellow iPhone 5C, as it is claimed the unlocked model has sold outon Appleâs US store.
Shipping dates for the $549 unlocked 16GB yellow iPhone 5C slipped from the release date of Appleâs 5C and 5S iPhones, September 20th, to being âavailable to shipâ almost a week later, September 25th.
First noticed by 9to5Mac, the phone is said be shipping in one to two weeks on Appleâs Hong Kong store site, and Canadians who preorder can expect their devices to ship between launch day and September 24th.
For all other countries, including the UK, the iPhones are still listed as arriving on September 20th.
Preorders opened for the iPhone 5C on Friday, September 13th, following its announcement alongside the 5S a week ago. The 5S, however, is unavailable to preorder, but will also launch on September 20th.

New research from CompareMyMobile reveals that iPhone prices could plummet drastically, with consumers potentially losing up to 30 per cent of their deviceâs original value.
Within 30 days of the official iPhone 5S announcement â which was on September 10th â the data suggests that the valuation pattern will follow what happened last year when the iPhone 5 was released.
The iPhone 4S 64GB lost ÂŁ99 in less than 30 days following the announcement of the iPhone 5.
Hereâs a breakdown of how the iPhone 4Sâs resale value was affected around last yearâs new phone launch:
- Sept 12th â (Announcement day) Consumers could get up to ÂŁ325 for their iPhone 4S
- Sept 14th â (Pre-Order day) Consumers stand to lose up to ÂŁ20 just two days after the announcement
- Sept 21st â (Launch day) Consumers stand to lose up to ÂŁ45 just eleven days after the announcement
- Oct 12th â Just one month after the announcement of the iPhone 5, consumers lost up to ÂŁ99 off their iPhone 4S trade in value
CompareMyMobile advises consumers to avoid the sharp fall in value by trading sooner rather than later, revealing that the average recycle store will hold the quote they give once the order has been placed for 7-14 days.

The founder and CEO of Pebble has said that competition from Samsung and Apple isnât a problem, and that Pebble will âwinâ the smartwatch battle.
Speaking during an interview at TechCrunchâs Disrupt conference, Eric Migicovsky said that Pebble âis in the best positionâ in the smartwatch market, by focusing on âhow people use watchesâ, rather than trying to impress consumers with high technical specs.
Migicovsky said that Pebbleâs success comes through âmeshing into peopleâs livesâ, citing long battery life and the ability to wear the Pebble without worrying about smashing it or struggling to operate it as key examples of âflowing into the background.â
Interviewed by TechCrunch East Coast Editor John Biggs, Migicovsky replied to questions about the next iteration of the Pebble, dubbed the âPebble 2.0â, by saying that software, rather than hardware, would provide the update.
Migicovsky was also asked whether an offer of acquisition from Samsung or Apple would ever be considered.
Stating that no such offer had ever been received, Migicovsky said that rather than look for deals with multi-armed corporations, Pebble was instead solely focused on building âreally, really cool wearables.â
âThe way that Pebble will win,â said Migicovsky, âis because weâre laser-focused on that, and weâre not distracted.â
The Pebble smartwatch remains Kickstarter's largest-ever successful crowdfunded project, reaching over $10 million in pledges.

Microsoft has removed a new Apple iPhone parody video from its YouTube page, saying it was âoff the markâ.
On Friday (September 13th) a video was uploaded to the Windows Phone YouTube channel entitled Microsoft iPhone parody: A fly on the wall in Cupertino.
The painfully unfunny video depicted two Apple employees coming up with various pitches for the new iPhones and features quite a variety of digs at the firm, including ones aimed at the rumoured iWatch as well as the iPhone 5Câscoloured variants and plastic casing.
It is not clear whether the video was meant to be shared internally, or if Microsoft just made a very bad judgement call. But the firm did reveal to The Next Web that the âlight-hearted poke at our friends from Cupertinoâ were deemed âoff the markâ.
While the video was swiftly made private on the official YouTube channel, some did manage to capture it before it disappeared.

As Siri prepares to exit beta with the launch of iOS7, it has been rumoured that Microsoft is preparing a competing system for Windows Phone.
Siri has been a staple of Appleâs iPhone and iPads since the iPhone 4S was released in 2011. However, having been in beta for two years, the voice-recognition software is finally to get a proper release when iOS 7 becomes publically available to download tomorrow (September 17th).
The (re)release of Siri will add several new features, including the option to choose between a male or female voice, and a larger selection of recognised commands.
Meanwhile, ZDNet has reported that Microsoft is working on a similar piece of software which is named âCortanaâ, after the helpful AI from the Halo series of games.
An app listed as âzCortanaâ, with the z- prefix labelling it as test software, appeared on a leaked version of the Windows Phone operating syste, but was largely ignored at the time.
It now seems that the presence of the app compliments rumours that Microsoft will release a Siri-like system by the name of Cortana for Windows Phone 8.1 when the operating system is launched in 2014, and will be powered by the same source that backs Microsoftâs search engine Bing, Satori.
Microsoft has previously said that it wouldnât release voice-recognition software unless it could offer something revolutionary, and other sources have said that the assistant is unlikely to be released until between 2014 and 2016.
