Sometimes, even the most massive of updates have humble beginnings. This is the case with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, a device that offered Android 4.3 Jelly Bean upon its debut. We all figured it was just a matter of time before an upgrade to 4.4 KitKat became available to users, and it appears Samsung is now ready to offer it -- albeit, on a rather small scale starting in Poland. According to SamMobile,Polish Note 3 owners (for the Snapdragon 800 quad-core version, at least) can now sideload the update through the manufacturer's Kies software. This is a pretty quiet and restrictive launch, so Samsung hasn't officially made any announcements, but we have a feeling that the company's limiting the rollout at first to ensure all of the possible bugs have been squashed prior to worldwide availability.

Game of Thrones: Ascent has been pegged for release on iOS and Android platforms, following its stint as a browser-based offering.
The standout 2013 Facebook game based on George R.R. Martin's popular works will land on both mobile platforms “in the near future,” developer Disruptor Beam's CEO Jon Radoff told Gamezebo.
Facebook players will have the option to link their accounts for cross-platform play on their respective mobile device, or just start from the beginning of the game again.
A less casual effort also based on the Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire series was recently announced by Telltale and HBO.

It looks like Codemasters is making another foray onto the roads of iOS, this time with endless free-to-play racer Drive USA. As spotted by superannuationand on the Touch Arcade forums, the game's been on the Singaporean App Store since Christmas Eve, as part of a soft-launch test.
"We can confirm that our new endless racer game for mobile platforms, Drive USA, is currently in soft launch in Singapore," a Codemasters spokesperson told Joystiq. "We will have more information on the game once there's a firm date for our global launch."
Beyond it being on iOS, Drive USA looks like unusual fare for the Grid and Dirtdeveloper. More arcade than sim, it tasks players with dodging cars, using power-ups, and making stylish drifts as they zip along a dynamically-changing road.

Sony has confirmed that it is considering a partnership with Microsoft in order to offer the Windows Phone operating system on its devices.
Speaking to TechRadar, the head of Sony Mobile Europe, Pierre, Perron, said that a collaboration with Microsoft was “an interesting proposition”.
"We are continuing our discussions with other partners, including Microsoft, as part of our partnership with this company on the broader Sony spectrum,” he added.
“One thing is using the [Windows Phone] platform itself, and another is: 'What can we deliver on top of it?’"
Sony had previously been rumoured to be considering a partnership in the mobile space with Microsoft in 2012. The rumours were halted by Sony Mobile CEO Kunimasa Suzuki, who said no such plans were in development. Sony’s Xperia X1 smartphone, released in 2008, ran on the Windows Mobile platform.
"We don't want to be a single OS manufacturer,” Perron explained. “I don't think it's a viable position in the long term."
"We enjoy very much a good collaboration with Google,” he added, on Sony’s current production of Android devices.
“We've been working with them for a long time and have a level of maturity with that discussion, that's good. But at the same time, Google has a relationship with direct competitors."

An Image of what appears to be a prototype of the Nokia Normandy has leaked onto Twitter.
The low-end smartphone is rumoured for a 2014 release and will have a tweaked version of Google’s Android operating system.
The image was tweeted by @seamissu on January 12th. The user claims the image is of an ‘engineering prototype’ of the Nokia Normandy.
The Normandy is reported to be aimed at the low-cost segment like Nokia’s Asha series, but with access to more traditional smartphone apps.
Other rumours include dual-SIM support, a single button below the screen, 5MP rear camera, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.

Taiwanese developer Rocky Hong had quite the upset last summer when he discovered that someone had ported his minimalist arcade game, Magnetized, to XBLIG and Google Play without his permission. Thankfully, the clones have been removed and now Hong has finally released his wonderfully addictive collection of physics-based challenges on iOS andAndroid.Priced at $2.99 (about £2), Magnetized tasks players with guiding a little cube through corridors by making magnetic spots re-calibrate the square's trajectory. Simply holding your finger down pulls the avatar towards the magnet, while releasing your finger leaves the square to continue on its current path like Sandra Bullock in Gravity. There's a loose narrative to the game - something about chasing dreams - but it's unfortunately riddled with grammatical errors as English isn't Hong's first language. It's a shame this wasn't tightened up prior to launch, but it honestly hardly matters as the core gameplay is as universal as they come.Magnetized has been free on Kongregate since April, but only now can it be played on the go. Check out the free version to see if it's your bag.

- Enabled compatibility for devices without a touchscreen.
