csalveson posted this news:
just posted a new theme for the Zodiac on the Zodiac Gear Website. It has been a while since I have released a new theme, but I think you will agree that it was worth the wait. I have been getting into Photoshop very heavily lately and you can see the difference in my themes.
I will have some more themes out very soon, probably within the next week or so. Lately I have been very busy so if you could post that the new Zodiac theme is available on the other Zodiac sites you visit, I would appreciate it. I usually post it on most of the Zodiac boards myself, but like I said, I have been very busy.
Let me know what you guys think! Everyone Enjoy.

ZHexen2 was updated to version 1.5 on my site: www.metaviewsoft.de. Changes in this version are:
- [FIX] "progs2.dat" was called "progs2.da", added a fix for it (many thx to Thomas Nosutta for testing and reporting this bug)
- [FIX] code update from uhexen2 repository
- [FIX] allows to restart a new game (keydown fixed)
- [FIX] slightly enhanced config file autoexec.cfg, goes into the game directory this config update also brings back an opaque water surface, better then no surface :-) (many thanks to Hans Schmucker for finding some good settings)

Zodttd has posted a new build of his port of his Playstation Emulator PSX4all to the Gizmondo, heres whats new:
have sorted out tons of issues with the dynarec, and it's starting to get up to speed. Thanks to Tinnus and Unai I have been busy with lots of ideas on optimizing this crazy code.
Things that are broken in this version:
- Save states do NOT work
- Changing games within the in-game menu do NOT work
- Compatibility might be different than previous releases, most likely theres a portion of games working on beta 2 that won't work on alpha 3.
- Sound is still disabled in this version.
- Interlacing is on by default, there's still small issues with interlacing, besides it decreases visual appeal.
- Some text in some games such as FF Tactics will be hard to read. Unai is working on fixing this.
- FF7 takes awhile to load (black screen on boot for about 1 minute) but it works. It's just skipping a splash screen. smile.gif
- The framerate indicator is on by default so...
*** VSyncRate gives the number of frames being displayed a second! ***
*** Framerate isn't the FPS, it shows how many *unique* frames are displayed a second ***
*** The FPS is BETWEEN the Framerate and VSyncRate ***
It's hard to give a good accurate FPS since we are using optimizations for only drawing frames if they changed since the last blit.
If you make a video of psx4giz in action, you might want to disable the Performance Stats in the in-game menu.
Let me know how this version handles. The more info, good or bad, on it the better.
Thanks!

A poster on the Word of Warcraft forums claims that he accidentally dropped his iPod into the toilet of an airplane on a flight to Canada, and one of the stewardesses found it. This then triggered a series of events that lead to an emergency landing, the passengers being evacuated and him spending several hours being grilled by the authorities. At the risk of spoiling the ending, it all turned out allright in the end, but he doesn't say if he took the, erm, soiled iPod back. Personally, I'd just write it off to experience and buy a non-flushed one.

So apparently Pioneer's shooting their mouth off about their new DEH car stereo system with Bluetooth, which apparently will work wonderfully with the Bluetooth adapter they claim Apple has planned for the iPod. Something tells us that a Pioneer spokesman by the name of Michael Broadhurst either a) doesn't have the kind of access to the information he thinks he does on this one, or b) is about to get in a whole lot of trouble. Either way, we'd wager Pioneer's about to sell some of those $1000 DEH-9850BTs and $800 DEH-P7850BTs to those who think they might be able to get it going wireless with their little white friend, and as always we remain one step behind the elusive wireless / Bluetooth iPod.

The UK is poised to drop that crazy law that legally prevented people from using FM transmitters to send their iPod's buttery beats to their radio, so Britons will need to start shopping around for the myriad FM transmitters, the most promising of which is the iCast from iStuff. Given the official seal of approval from the UK's Ministry of Truth (or whomever), the iCast plugs right into the iPod's headphone jack, so it should work on other, non-iPod DAPs, too.
The iCast is capable of transmitting music between the frequencies of 88.1 MHz and 107.9MHz and is powered by a single AA battery (or you can plug her into the cigarette lighter).

If you can't beat 'em, sue 'em, right? That's the American way, after all, and it's serving Singapore-based Creative very well. As some may well remember, not even four months ago Creative filed suit against Apple for violating their "Zen patent," which pertained to a hierarchical menu system for portable media players; Apple countersued Creative, and then in the true Jobsian style of raining down on his foes, launched a second suit pertaining to icons and data display and entry in such portable devices. (Apparently two other suits also went down behind the scenes.) Guess those didn't work too well, as today Apple announced they'd be handing over $100,000,000 US (would you look at all those zeroes?) to Creative to license the "technology" outlined in the Zen patent -- the exact amount Creative pledged to spend on advertising against the iPod in 2005. It also looks like Apple scored a deal wherein they'll recoup some of those costs if and when Creative extorts leverages the patent on other media player companies. But perhaps the most bizarre bit of all, Creative seems to be jumping right into bed with Apple now that their spat's over, and is now officially a Made for iPod program partner with iPod accessories expected this year. This abusive relationship is starting to turn a little weird, like divorced parents getting back together or something -- can't we just go back to the days when the two had nothing but vitriol and recrimination for one another? Still, gotta love the vaguely optimistic spin Jobs put on the sitch: "Creative is very fortunate to have been granted this early patent..." Yeah, we'd say you're damned right, Steve.

So even though Apple's investigation of the Chinese manufacturing plant that's come to be known as "iPod City" found no egregious violations in the working conditions (except for, you know, the long hours, military-like punishments, and not exactly "Cribs"-style living arrangements), at least one major trade union conglomerate isn't all that happy with its conclusions. Speaking to BBC News, the director of human and trade union rights at the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions, Janek Kuczkiewicz, noted that his organization was "not impressed either by the report or by the findings of Apple." Most troubling to the ICFTU was the fact that only 100 of the over 30,000 employees working at the Foxconn-owned plant were interviewed by Apple's special investigative team; and since the conditions under which the interviews were held is unknown (i.e. were they being watched by supervisors and told to just smile and nod?), Kuczkiewicz stressed that "we have serious reservations about the report." He went on to point out that there are other labor standards such as the freedoms from discrimination, of association, and to bargain collectively that were not necessarily enjoyed by the Foxconn employees. While it's certainly admirable that not everyone is simply lauding Apple for its inquiry and assuming massive changes are underway, it's also important to realize that when doing business in a foreign country, outside corporations don't always have the final say on how things are run; so as much as Mr. Kuczkiewicz would like to see the workers band together and demand $5.15 an hour, we're not sure how well that would go over with the Chinese government. Unfortunately, the reality of the situation is that manufacturers are driving each other to find cheaper and cheaper labor in order to maintain already thin margins, and when that's the case, even a company as rich and powerful as Apple can do little to create the utopic working conditions that we'd all like to see.

Nobody touches Big Brother's Apple's OS until they're good and ready -- not nobody. Apparently not even Apple employees are beyond the long arm of the law, since a few Apple Retail employees have been sacked after being overheard by the Thought Police co-workers while discussing their evil deeds, and were subsequently reported to corporate. Their crime? Downloading the WWDC edition of Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard that was handed out to developers at the recent keynote and has been popping up on file sharing sites of late. At least five employees have been fired so far, with "dozens" more facing electroshock therapy expulsion. When questioned about their actions, the employees fessed up to the crime, and they seemed to think Apple was in the right for giving them the boot, though they do wonder if they'd still have their jobs if they'd hadn't admitted to downloading Leopard. Guess you'll never know now, eh Honest Abe?

You gotta love the litigousness of youth -- especially when there's an iPod involved. A spat over a missing iPod resulted in a lawsuit in Wheaton, Illinois, when 14-year-old Shannon Derrik sued her (now former) friend Stephanie Eick for losing her brand new iPod. It seems that Shannon made the fool mistake of lending her iPod to Stephanie, who decided it'd be a good idea to give back the iPod by leaving it on Shannon's desk rather than waiting for her to return from the restroom to hand it over in person. The iPod managed to disappear -- apparently someone in that classroom had some sticky fingers -- and so Shannon sued for $475 in damages and court fees (she says she did a LOT of babysitting to pay for that iPod). The case was initially tossed because of an improper filing, but it looks like the two girls will finally square off in court in about a month (the word on the street is that they're gearing up for a serious showdown in the cafeteria when school starts up again).

In a speech delivered at the Leipzig GC Developer Conference, I-play's Stephane Labrunie has declared that mobile gaming is set to overtake console gaming by the end of the year.
According to Labrunie, mobile gaming "is the definition of a true mass market; it's not a niche market, as is console gaming."
To support this argument, Labrunie pointed to the fact that 48 per cent of mobile gamers are female, while 58 per cent are aged between 18 and 34. Although he conceded that the market "will take time to grow", Labrunie stated that "This market will sell more games on mobile than traditional consoles in 2006."
He went on to quote figures which forecast sales of 1.8 billion game-enabled handsets by 2008. By 2010, the number of paid downloads per year is set to reach 1.7 billion, while gross revenues will rise to US$ 5.9 billion.
However, Labrunie said, there are still problems to overcome. Around 33 per cent of handset owners don't know they can play games on their phones, and while more than 50 per cent have played embedded games or demos, just 5 per cent have actually downloaded a game. In addition, 16 per cent of gamers say pricing is a barrier to downloading more games.
"We have customers, but definitely not enough," Labrunie stated.
"Some have no more credit on their pre-pay card, some do not have time, some don't know how to download games... Trust is a very important factor, because you need to buy in a safe environment.
"If you keep all that in mind, it will help us to build a good strategy to perform well in this business."
Labrunie said that the emergence of new technologies, such as 3G, will help to boost the mobile gaming market. "New technology, from my point of view, is really about faster, easier access to the network... You will have a much more intuitive experience - you will know where to download mobile games, and you will know how to do it."
He went on to encourage designers to "think simplicity, traction and innovation" when creating games, and he also had some advice for fellow publishers: "We need to put the customer in the middle of our thinking. I'm saying that because you have to remember that mobile gaming is not a retail market; it's very much driven by the carrier industry."
Concluding his speech, Labrunie said that "the best is yet to come", reaffirming that "Mobile gaming will be the fastest growing segment of the total videogames industry".

Boycott Advance is a Gameboy Advance Emulator for Mac OS.
Boycott Advance is not a fast emulator. You will not get consistent full frame rate on this emulator if you do not have a G4 running at at least 600MHz. Boycott Advance is not designed to be a substitute for the real system - if you want to play GBA games, buy a GBA.
Boycott Advance can use a real Gameboy Advance BIOS image, although it is not required. This must be named gbasys.bin and be placed in the Boycott Advance folder. DO NOT ASK ME TO SEND YOU THIS FILE. Note that some games work better with the real BIOS, and some work better without. Your mileage may vary

Arnold is an Amstrad CPC/CPC+/GX4000 emulator. It can also emulate the KC Compact, a bootleg CPC clone.
Arnold was originally written by Kevin Thacker. The MacOS port was developed by Richard Bannister. The documentation was written by Jacques Azoulai, with updates and minor tweaks by Richard Bannister. The icons were designed as a special favour to me by PB1400c - thank you very much indeed!
When the CPC was originally developed, the code name of Arnold was used. This is where the name of the emulator comes from.

BSNES has a somewhat different purpose to most emulators; it focuses on accuracy over performance. To that end, it does not include any game specific hacks, or idle-loop skipping optimizations commonly found in other emulators. To add to the fun, it uses a cycle accurate hardware emulation. The net result of all this is the highest system requirements of any software I've released to date; those without a G5 class machine need not apply. If you meet the requirements, however, this is the most accurate SNES emulation available on the Macintosh platform.
BSNES requires a minimum of a PowerMac G5 to run. The current release is unlikely to run at full frame rate on anything less than 2.3GHz. Those who do not meet the minimum requirements should be able to run the program anyway by command-clicking the OK button in the system requirements dialog box, but this facility is completely unsupported.
