In addition to the classic game play offered by PAC-MAN and Ms. PAC-MAN, two of the most popular video games in American arcade history, the games have been āupgradedā to take full advantage of the iPhoneās capabilities. Countless hours and quarters have been spent at the arcade on these classic games, and now, the popularity of PAC-MAN and Ms. PAC-MAN can be enjoyed on-the-go with new iPhone features like controlling the game with an accelerometer.
āWe are excited to add iPhone and iPod touch to the list of devices that consumers can use to play PAC-MAN and Ms. PAC-MAN,ā said Scott Rubin, vice president of sales and marketing for Namco Networks. āWe are delighted that we could utilize the innovation of the iPhone OS to bring high-quality, fun Namco titles like PAC-MAN and Ms. PAC-MAN to a new platform.ā
PAC-MAN and Ms. PAC-MAN on the iPhone feature three unique control schemes, virtual d-pad control, touch screen and accelerometer, enabling the ultimate gaming experience while highlighting the capabilities of the platform. The accelerometer allows players to control PAC-MAN or Ms. PAC-MAN by tilting the phone in the direction that they want them to chomp the PAC-dots and ghosts or eat the bonus fruit. There are two distinct touchscreen controls for the game, one allows players to direct PAC-MANās path by simply tapping on the screen and the other introduces a virtual D-pad, simulating the game play of PAC-MAN and Ms. PAC-MAN on other gaming devices.

The unique capabilities of the iPhone and iPod touch offer a new mobile gaming experience through the use of their touch screens, multiple sensors, and high definition graphics. For those folks who don't mind -- nay, who strongly prefer -- a terminal screen on their smartphone, we know you've already thrown down the plastic on OpenMoko's FreeRunner. If you're going insane waiting to get your hands on it, what better to do than read through a remarkably thorough writeup detailing the user interface and all the goop behind the pretty scenes that makes this thing tick? Oh, and if you're just now getting up the courage to see what the brouhaha is all about, you've chosen the perfect time to get schooled. See that read link? Hit it.

We just learned that AT&T's policy of allowing current iPhone owners a subsidized upgrade—even though they're only as most one year into their two-year contracts—quite literally applies to current iPhone owners. That means that if you sold your iPhones recently in order to raise money for the new one, you might be out of luck. And by out of luck, we mean you have to pay the unsubsidized price ($399 for 8GB and $499 for 16GB) in order to upgrade to the iPhone 3G, not the $199 and $299 you thought you were going to pay. Let us explain.
We've confirmed from an AT&T rep that if you aren't using the iPhone, then by definition you aren't an iPhone customer. That makes you a regular AT&T customer with regular upgrade qualifications. How does AT&T know whether or not you're using the iPhone currently? Well, when you stick your old SIM into a new phone, they can detect exactly what you're using even if you haven't switched your plan to something else besides the iPhone plan. Bottom line is, you should go to AT&T and use their eligibility checker to see if you qualify. If you're really lucky, you only sold your phone recently and you haven't gotten around to sticking your SIM into something else.

Just a day after O2's pre-ordering Web site crashed under the pressure of UK shoppers wanting an iPhone 3G, the company has admitted that in-store numbers are going to be low.
In an email bombshell to one customer, in response to his complaint over the rubbish pre-ordering service, Stephen Shurrock, sales director at O2, wrote:
"Demand was at 13,000 orders per second. Frankly, we have to admit we just weren't prepared for this unprecedented level of demand. No website is. The next opportunity to get an iPhone will be when the device goes on sale in the high street on 11th July. O2 and Carphone Warehouse stores will be taking new orders and upgrade orders. Apple stores will only be taking new customer contracts. The approach on Friday will also be on a first come first served basis. The amount of devices will vary depending on the store but will be on average a few dozen iPhones in each O2 or CPW store.
We are expecting early queues and, like the online site, are expecting to sell out very quickly. Apple stores will have more devices. We will be receiving deliveries from Apple roughly once a week for the foreseeable future but it will be several weeks before stocks increase. We will release stock updates for the online shop as they become available.
Unfortunately, [Apple] have only been able to supply a small proportion of the number of phones we asked for, because they are launching simultaneously in 22 countries. We are confident that over time we will start to get sufficient volume to meet demand, but it is likely that stock will be in very short supply for some weeks to come."
A "few dozen"? A "few dozen" in any given store is pathetic. I see quite a few cases of iPhone Rage coming on this Friday.-Martin Lynch

Apple's apparently so fed up with the high pricing that Rogers is shoving into Canadian iPhone owners' faces that there will be no iPhone 3Gs sold at Apple Stores in Canada this Friday. This follows up Apple's previous action of diverting stock from Canada to Europe, and really sets the tone that they're unhappy with Rogers' $60 for 150 minutes, 75 SMS messages and 400MB data plan. So what's the deal? Canadians who still want one will have to line up early to get one of the 10-20 units per store that Rogers is getting. If we were you, we'd stay home and wait for Rogers to admit defeat, stop slapping its customers in the face and lower its prices

You probably saw this one coming, but with that massive slew of countries and partners Apple has wrangled for the new iPhone launch, that July 11th street date was bound to be neglected. So here you have it, courtesy of the french blog Gadget O'Mac, an iPhone 3G on display in a shop in Switzerland. While the shots may be blurry, we at least get to see this thing in the hands of someone other than an Apple employee, and coupled with that Portuguese leak, this should thoroughly whet your appetite for Friday.

Continuing this day of iPhone 3G impropriety, the Boy Genius has somehow secured himself a brand-spanking-new iPhone 3G, and has unboxed it for all the world to see. First off, our condolences to the AT&T or Apple employee who will probably lose their job over this one, and then a tip of the hat to BGR for pulling off such a daring stunt. The pictures, however, should be less exciting (since we've been seeing a lot of these today) -- still, nice to know what you're about to get into!

To be fair, Continental Mobiles' diamond-encrusted Nokia N95 is a real bargain at Ā£10,000 ($19,813) when compared to Amosu's Ā£12,000 alternative, but seriously, real richies should be holding off for the evolutionary N96, anyway. For those with enough cash to care, this particular handset / status symbol packs a Sterling silver front-panel stacked with "4.42ct of brilliant-cut, VS1 quality, color G-H, naturally mined diamonds." If you're craving one, you'd better get your order in now, as it takes the British craftspeople crazy enough to sell these things three full weeks to whip one up.

The notion that the UK might be punished for having so many iPhone users with hacked phones did seem a little far fetched last week when we covered the claims of one UK retail insider, but today it's looking likely that the iPhone 3G is certainly not arriving as originally thought.
Today, it's been confirmed that the pay-as-you-go (PAYG) - or Pay & Go - iPhone 3G has been put on the backburner for the UK and will not ship later this week on July 11.
The O2 site now lists the device with the message: "Pay & Go will be available later this year". More ominously, an official statement from Carphone Warehouse says the PAYG iPhone 3G will arrive "in time for the Christmas period". That's a bit of a blow for those hoping to use a 3G iPhone on their own networks.
Both O2 and Carphone Warehouse have opened up pre-ordering for a 'limited time' before it starts selling to Joe Public on Friday morning and, to entice buyers, they are promising courier delivery on Friday. Carphone claims that that pre-registrations for the 3G device are 10 times higher than they were for the original iPhone.
And where is the white one that other countries will be getting?

Hello everyone,
Sorry for the lack of updates for the last couple of weeks, we have been adding 2 very requested features in to the iControlPad which we think will make the unit near perfect in terms of what it can do. We will be releasing those details later this month.
We will be emailing interested distributors this week to gather some details.
As soon as we have a finished mass production pad we will put up a youtube video
Back to work!

Windows Mobile users have had to look on in envy as people poked and drew penises on their friends' walls with dedicated apps for BlackBerry and Palm, wistfully hoping that joy could one day be their own. And now it is! Apparently the first full Facebook app for Windows Mobile, FriendMobilizer will let you do all of the basics like stalk your newly single friend, send messages or ignore requests from people you've never met. It's a lot greener (and uglier) than the Centro's app (which I like a lot) but hey, beggars can't be choosers. And I mean, you guys were begging for this, right?

While we still don't think the iPhone App Store makes the do-everything cell phone a threat to the DS, we are impressed with the growing list of big-name franchises being ported to the system. We can now amend that list to include the Bomberman series, with Hudson's with the recent announcement of Bomberman Touch: Legend of the Mystic Bomb.
A video trailer (embedded below the jump) shows what looks like a transparent, touch-screen d-pad placed over the on-screen action to control Bomberman, sort of like the interface for the earlier iPhone PlayStation emulator . According to Hudson, the game will include "classic Bomberman powerups and original special items" and take advantage of "the unique iPhone / iPod touch interface of flicking, tapping, and tilting with a built-in accelerometer." No word on a multiplayer mode, but with the iPhone's Wi-Fi capabilities, a local wireless option would hopefully be a no-brainer.
Bomberman touch joins water-based puzzle game Aqua Forest and the always lucrative Sudoku in Hudson's announced line-up for the iPhone.
