Look, we're not saying this means anything, but the above rendering from iPhone case-maker XSKN sure does look like those supposed design changes we've been hearing about. You'll note the larger, more curvy back, space opened up near the earpiece for the rumored front-facing camera, and what appears to be a non-recessed headphone jack. Sure, this could be a ploy to get eyes on their pages, but even if they're citing the specs we've heard, this is still the first case design we've seen for anything other than the original iPhone.

According to a churning rumor-mill, Apple desperately wants to make over-the-air downloads of iTunes content a reality on the 3G iPhone. Apparently, a record label executive "familiar with the discussions" states that the Cupertino gang is hoping for a "big launch in June" which includes OTA music downloads, ringtone sales, and ringback tones (the substitute music you hear instead of a ring when calling someone). There's only one problem: the labels want a higher premium for those services than a typical MP3 download. Of course, Apple's iTunes pricing has been a point of contention for some time, though its recent rule-bending for HBO could lead to upped charges for the new services. Something tells us Apple has the tenacity and bullheadedness to make this work -- let's just hope they can temper the labels' greed with the end user's economic realities.

It's been a solid tick since the North American N95, also referred to as the N95-3, received a software update. For those clamoring for a little love from Nokia's dev team, listen up: an administrator over at the outfit's forums has admitted that the Software Update crew has a new version in the works. We're told that they've heard the demands for a fresh release, and they're toiling away in order to bring it to N95-3 owners by early June. Unfortunately, we're not told what new features we can expect, and even worse, "early June" seems like eons away, doesn't it?

We'll make this brief. Orange spokesperson Therese Wenger told the SDA news agency that it has secured rights to release the iPhone (3G version, presumably) in Switzerland and more than 10 other countries -- take that Swisscom! Other countries include Austria, Belgium, Poland, Portugal, and Romania. And France of course where it's already on sale. See, that was quick and leaves room for a dozen or so other iPhone related announcements today.

Singapore Airlines is installing iPod docks and 15.4-inch widescreen LCDs in their all-Business Class Airbus A340-500 flights between NY/LA and Singapore, ensuring that we're going to be flying with them if we ever have to travel to that part of the world. Each business customer can dock their iPhone or iPod and watch their own movies on the included noise-canceling headphones—which will be interrupting when the captain wants tell you to look off to your left so you can see a drunken Superman mooning your plane. Flights from Newark with this will start May 15 (today), and August for the LA ones. Maybe now business passengers won't engage in business time whilst in the air.

So there was a little rumor bouncing about yesterday which claimed that Swisscom would land the iPhone. Today, Swisscom confirmed the deal while saying little else. What's interesting then is what the rest of the rumor, started by the leading Swiss newspaper, Le Matin, had to say. Namely, the 3G iPhone will be on sale in Switzerland this summer (on sale in the US by June) offering 2-way video chats, mobile TV and GPS navigation all powered by an even beefier processor. That certainly sounds like the same 3G iPhone we're expecting to pop at WWDC now doesn't it?

And so forth. If you're like many of us, you very well could be weighing your options as the 3G iPhone seems increasingly imminent. Some might have a wad of cash already laid aside, others might be thinking of jumping ship to one of the iPhone's numerous competitors, or just getting some more months of utility out of their current iPhone. And then there's the trouble of disposing of your existing iPhone when you do upgrade. Do you give it to a friend, mount it on the wall, or bury it in the backyard with the hope of growing it into a cute little iPhone tree? The options are endless. Let us know which way you're leaning.
Are you going to buy the 3G iPhone?
I'll upgrade the day it comes out.I think I'll wait and see how it fares.Sticking with this one until it craps out or there's a price I can't refuse.Going to jump ship to something else as soon as my contract is up.Never bought one, and 3G won't change a thing.I think 3G means it's finally time to head to the dark side.Vote
What'll you do with your old iPhone 1.0?
Give it to Apple for recycling.Give it to a friend or family member.Sell it.Hack it.Trash it.Keep it around for a backup.Never bought one.

through a magnetic reader, the idea is definitely sound. Just take pictures of your club cards (Costco, Safeway, Blockbuster), import them into your iPhone as an album, and trim down the number of cards you have to carry in your wallet. When you need to use a card, just whip out your phone and show it to the cashier, hoping that they don't get too uppity about your cleverness. If they do, just throw your phone at their head * la Naomi Campbell.

Quick, what's the best way to dress up an otherwise dry piece on how companies can register non-traditional trademarks? If you answered "mention Apple and the iPod," you're the big winner -- and you've gotten yourself published in the Wall Street Journal. We'll be the first to admit that Apple's January registration of the three-dimensional design of the iPod strains credulity, but the simple fact is that non-traditional trademarks have been around for a while now -- we seem to remember a little kerfuffle regarding magenta recently, but we can't quite recall the exact details. Similarly, Nokia trademarked the 12 notes of its default ringtone back in September (even though they're part of a larger piece written in 1902 called "Gran Vals"), NBC has a mark on its ding-ding-ding station ID, and Coca-Cola has registrations for basically every bottle design it sells. Still, you can bet Apple legal threw quite a pizza party when this mark was approved -- and we can only imagine the kind of buttoned-down corporate lawyer jam that'll go down if the company succeeds in getting a mark on the design of the iPhone, which it's currently applied for. Hope you're ready for some more funktastic control layouts.

Zodttd posted this update about his Pandora and Iphone projects:
What's up with ZodTTD you ask?
I am preparing to goto a friends wedding on May 13th.
I have been working very hard on psx4all and made a lot of progress in terms of compatibility. Performance has increased as well.
I've been placing my project's source code on a public git repository which will also allow for more proper bug reporting, and each project will have a wiki!
The Pandora videos I've made on YouTube and ZodTTD Video have been getting more popular. The psx4pandora project is running at amazing speeds on this upcoming gaming handheld.
I still need to speak to Exophase about temper4iphone, and integrate the updates into it before releasing. Exophase is the author of Temper. This project emulates the NEC TurboGraphix 16 and Turbo Duo (also known as the PC-Engine and PC-CD). A big thanks to those who have created controller skins for the temper4iphone project! It's a huge help!

Today Greystripe, the world’s leading distributor of ad-supported mobile games and applications, announced another Tier-one game publisher deal to distribute free mobile games from world-renowned game publisher, Sega.
Three classic game titles from the Sega collection will be delivered across mobile phones worldwide through all 50 of Greystripe's Catalog Platform partners in addition to GameJump.com, the world's largest ad-supported mobile game portal. Additionally, Sega will monetize their mobile game content via Greystripe's AdWRAP advertising network, which includes brands like Diet Coke, Yahoo!, New Line Cinema and eBay.
“Sega has selected to be a part of the Greystripe’s distribution network of sites as it opens up the category to a whole new market of consumers,” said Linda Chaplin, VP of Mobile at Sega. “The ‘free games’ proposition allows consumers to try mobile games without risk and we’re confident that our brands and commitment to quality will convince consumers to stay and continue gaming on their mobile phones.”
To launch the partnership, Sega and Greystripe are launching three popular mobile games:
* Sonic Jump – Go vertical with Sonic the Hedgehog. Play through familiar fast-paced action with an addictive new style as Sonic jumps from platform to platform in a race to stop the evil Dr. Eggman.
* Afterburner II – A classic Sega arcade favorite, players can use their mobile phones to jump into the cockpit of a fighter jet and combat swarms of supersonic enemy fighters.
* Golden Axe – In the epic “side-scrolling beat ‘em up” Golden Axe, choose one of three powerful heroes to embark on an adventure to save the land of Yuria from the evil forces of Death Adder!
“Besides being the biggest name in gaming, Sega has incredible IP and truly understands the move to mobile with their classic game titles,” said Michael Chang, CEO of Greystripe. “Our partnership with them is a huge win for our end users and demonstrates that Greystripe is able to bring the biggest brands to the mobile gaming audience.”
Greystripe also recently celebrated 50 million downloads of the popular games – including titles from Sega, Digital Chocolate, Vivendi Games Mobile and Hands-On Mobile – found on GameJump.com, Greystripe’s proprietary mobile game portal.
Greystripe's patent-pending AdWRAP technology automates the process that enables advertisements to be wrapped directly with mobile games and applications without any complex coding and development for the content owner. AdWRAP provides game publishers, Web and mobile media portals, and carriers with an additional source of revenue, while simultaneously building customer retention and loyalty.

We've just received an official statement from AT&T regarding the presence of an "iPhone Black" on its model selector earlier today: "The reference to 'iPhone Black' was simply a temporary placeholder used over the weekend for a scheduled catalog update. It was meant to temporarily distinguish the various iPhone models-4GB, 8GB and 16GB-but was never reassigned. We're changing the site now." Makes total sense, right? Three models of iPhone, two placeholders: iPhone and iPhone Black. You know, because "Black" has so much to do with memory capacity, and is easier to remember than 4, 8, or 16GB.
Also, AT&T, we know those cigarettes are yours, so you can stop telling us you were "just carrying them for a friend." We're not stupid, you know.
