News/release from Zodttd:
Hi everyone,
I've been working hard on getting MP3 support added to ogg4iphone. I have finally accomplished this, and in the process fixed a lot of bugs and added a few more much needed features.
Here's what's new in ogg4iphone v0.7.0:
MP3 support added. ogg4iphone now plays MP3s in addition to OGG.
Playlists added. Add music to two playlists available. This feature will be worked on much more.
Stop music button added. Enjoy the silence.
Random play added in the Settings.
Volume increased 3x. Now you can hear the music too!
Tons of bugs fixed.
Be sure to check out ogg4iphone v0.7.0 in the ZodTTD Public Repo, just add this source to Installer.app: http://zodttd.com/repo
It will also be available in the community sources via the ModMyiFone repo shortly.
Now that ogg4iphone has more than just OGG playing, should the name of this app be changed? Let me know by replying. Suggestions are also welcome, but keep in mind this is still a new application I'm designing from the ground up.
Thanks,
ZodTTD

It is available via the ZodTTD Installer.app Public Repo. Enter the following URL as a repo source in Installer.app for access: http://zodttd.com/repo
It will also be available on the ModMyiFone.com Installer.app Community Source in a bit.
What's new in gpSPhone v2.0.0:
- Fixed a few major bugs in the GUI framework that caused seemingly random crashes / slowdown.
- Improved the method for blitting to the iPhone / iPod Touch screen.
- Updated to the latest GUI framework used by ZodTTD projects.
Hopefully some will notice improved performance and/or compatibility in this release. If not, the bugs fixed didn't affect you.
Thanks,

Inside a mostly speculative piece about iPhone nanos and GPS on the next iPhone, Popular Mechanics does have one pretty solid nuggest: The president of an unnamed GPS navigator maker (figure out who for bonus points) is apparently "scared shitless" by the prospect of an iPhone with GPS, because it'd be good enough for most users to never even glance at a separate GPS unit—with a decent-sized touchscreen and Google Maps interface, just add a carmount and you're good to go on foot or the road.

Another round of questions another round of answers to sink our teeth in. As you know at this early stage we cant expect too much detail but there has been some interesting revelations that I think you might prick your ears up to.
Will we be seeing an improved GPS chip such as the SIRF 3 found in modern GPS units?
QUOTE
A new GPS chip will be included into the new version of the Giz
Will the Gizmondo Servers be back? Such as the Location based, where am I, or where is my nearest, services?
QUOTE
We are currently building out a worldwide server farm to minimize load times for users regardless of where they are located.
What is going to happen to SmartAds? Will we see it returning to the Gizmondo?
If so how are you going to promote that and implement is this time round?
QUOTE
No
Will there be additional support for audio and video files on the Gizmondo such as the widely used Divx and Xvid?
QUOTE
We are discussing support for Xvid but currently the audio/video formats we are planning are the ones built in to the Windows Moble Media Player which include MP3 & WMA for audio and WMV and MPEG for video. Thus far, we have not discussed support for Divx.
Will the updated Gizmondo have WIFI or 3g capabilities?
QUOTE
The updated Gizmondo will have WIFI.
With the change in user interface will you be using the astonishing tribe http://www.tat.se again? Can we arrange an interview with the creators of the new UI?
QUOTE
Yes, we are upgrading the UI and are handling the entire redesign in house. We took a TON of feedback from Gizmondo users. We will be happy to arrange an interview once we get closer to the launch.
What support will you be giving to operating systems such as driver support? Last time we were stuck with using windows 98-XP will there be Mac, Linux and Windows Vista support?
QUOTE
The new Giz will be on Windows mobile, so there will be Vista support. Not sure yet on Mac or Linux versions yet.
Will Gizmondo be producing its own software for purchase? Can you divulge any ideas or projects you have going?
QUOTE
Yes, we will be producing non-game titles. We will be happy to provide you with detail on any of our applications as they get closer to launch.
For our development community
Can you elaborate on what support you will be providing for developers and programs you will be initiating to draw them in before releasing to the public? The development guys really need specific details on this as soon as possible.
QUOTE
We will provide a very comprehensive SDK, free access to a new device for registered developers for testing. We have a revenue share program for new titles and tie in for
The last Gizmondo lacked any extra incentives for developers, thus its homebrew community was also diminished. Are there any extra incentives or programs for developers this time round?
QUOTE
There will be a chance for revenue share on any application built for the Gizmondo and sold/distributed through the website. We also have other marketing partners that have indicated they will want to partner with members in the development community.
Will developers be able to buy the Gizmondo 2.0 before the public release (Dev Unit), so that they can produce content for the community in time for the actual launch?
QUOTE
Yes. We will have dev units and the SDK available by end of summer.
Will there be any difference in a Developer Unit & a Normal Unit (or any other units for that matter)?
QUOTE
No, there won't be a difference between the units. All units will come unlocked.

First we would like to say thanks for all the kind emails, we know we have a lot of you guys to link on the right column and will get it done as soon as possible. First though we wanted to show that this is real and the hardware exists. But what we don't currently want to do is reveal how the iPhone hooks up to the control pad or too many details on the design as we are a little worried about clones.
In this video you can see Michael talk you though some aspects of the iPhone serial communications.

SEGA(R) Mobile, a division of SEGA Corporation, today announced that its classic game Sonic the Hedgehog has surpassed more than 8 million downloads since launching on mobile phones inNorth America andEurope. The venerable video icon has been a stellar performer since launching in early 2006. InNorth America, the game has enjoyed its biggest success and consistent Top Seller status on Verizon Wireless' V CAST service.
"Sonic the Hedgehog is a title that resonates with a universal audience of gamers who have grown up with the franchise, as well as with a growing audience of casual players," said Linda Chaplin, vice president of SEGA Mobile. "Sonic has appeared in more than 40 games on 19 video game platforms. The mobile platform has been a great extension for the franchise, allowing fans and casual players alike to pick up a truly classic game and experience it all over again on their mobile phones."
SEGA's legendary mascot, and one of the most popular video game characters of all time, blazed onto mobile phones with a re-creation of the best-selling first title for the SEGA Genesis console system. Packing in all the ultra-fast action and gameplay of the original, Sonic the Hedgehog was first launched exclusively with Verizon Wireless in the U.S. Additional major carriers inNorth America andEurope followed, where the game remains a consistent top seller.
"Sonic the Hedgehog is extremely appealing to our V CAST audience," said Todd Murphy, director of Mobile Web, games and applications for Verizon. "Sonic has made a substantial contribution to our multimedia sales over the past two years, and we look forward to continually working with SEGA to deliver its classic games and new properties to mobile users everywhere."
Sonic the Hedgehog takes players on a wild ride with the fastest blue hedgehog on earth through hair-raising loop-de-loops and dizzying dives past bubbling lava and waterfalls on a quest to gather rings and stop the evil Dr. Robotnik's plan for world domination. Easy, one-thumb controls and console-like graphics round out the experience.
SEGA Mobile plans to build on the success of the Sonic brand with the introduction of three new titles this year, including Sonic at the Olympic Games, Sonic Spinball and Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

The binaries of the final releases for JMEBoy 1.0.7, AndroidBoy 1.0.7 and JSwingBoy 1.0.1 have been added for download. These releases are built from the code of SVN revision 63.
These releases significantly reduce the memory requirements of the emulator. Additionally some minor bugs are also fixed.
Please take a look at the release notes for more information on the changes. Choose the emulator download according to the desired target platform:
- JMEBoy runs on Java-enabled (MIDP 2.0) mobile devices.
- AndroidBoy runs on Android-based mobile devices.

While we wait, and wait... and wait for manufactures to perfect long-lasting fuel cells, Apple and others are pursuing at least one other approach: solar augmentation. In a patent application titled "Solar cells on portable devices" attributed to a number of Apple employees, Apple reveals possible plans to integrate solar cells into portable devices such as iPods and MacBooks. The application says, "Solar cells are typically stacked with other layers made of transparent or semi-transparent materials... Some of these layers may be used for display or input purposes, and some layers may be coated with various materials or they may be etched with product logos or other patterns." In other words, Apple is looking to cover the entire device, including the transparent display, with a layer of solar cells -- the latter approach already patented by Motorola. While the efficiency of solar cells and existing manufacturing techniques call into question the immediate viability of such an approach, it's intriguing nonetheless as a means to offset any lost battery life on the move to say, 3G.

Above you can see the first prototype pic of the iControlPad a device thats set to revolutionize Homebrew and Emulation and even normal gaming on the iPhone (wheres the ipod touch version ), The iPhone as we know is a powerful beast but real gamers will struggle like hell trying to to grips with playing the likes of Snes, GBA, PSX and Genesis games on the iPhone, yes many of you do use the iPhone for that but to be able to play like a real joypad is a much nicer feel.
The iControlPad fits around the iPhone and looks very much like a PSP in its appearance and it does seem to have enough buttons for decent emulation play. Lets hope that when its released we will seeif it can give a real feel to gaming on the iPhone.

Personally, I have never been big into phone cases. They can be bulky, flimsy, and having one clipped to your belt makes most people look like a tool. I prefer to let them hang out naked and free—as nature intended. Still, iPhones don't come cheap, and if you dropped all that cash on one you are certainly justified in wanting to protect it from the elements. That is why I have put 4 major iPhone cases (the Case-mate leather collection, the Otterbox Defender Series, the Ivyskin Xylo T2 Touch-Thru Case, and the iShield Mirror) to the test in an effort to determine whether or not they will truly fit your needs.

Usually, Zinio charges five bucks a pop for single digital issues of magazines like Men's Health, Popular Mechanics, Playboy, Penthouse and other classy rags. But on the iPhone, at least for now, you can read them from cover-to-cover for free, if you direct your browser to zinio.com/iphone. Yep, even Playboy. If you're on an actual computer, you can also change your user agent in Safari to mimic the iPhone's, and we've confirmed it'll work just as well. (BTW, the pics are desktop size, not iPhone puny.) No telling how long it'll last though, so you get your licks (or other verbs) in while you can.
