The firm has issued an apology to UK customers over the stock shortages of its latest smartphone device, the Nexus 4.
Whilst the device launched back in October, customers interested in the device have struggled to find available stock, with the limited number of devices at launch selling out it just minutes.
Some customers have been left waiting months for their Nexus 4 to arrive.
In light of the delays, Google UK and Ireland's MD Dan Cobley has published an open letter to customers experiencing delays.
Within a post on his Google+ page, Cobley says: "I know that what you are going through is unacceptable and we are all working through the nights and weekends to resolve this issue."
"I realise that the people who ordered the Nexus 4 so early are among our most committed and loyal users and we are doing all we can to put things right."
As for the reasons behind the delay, Cobley hints in the post that LG, who makes the device, may be to blame.
"Supplies from the manufacturer are scarce and erratic, and our communication has been flawed. I can offer an unreserved apology for our service and communication failures in this process," says Cobley.
However, the MD reassures customers that orders are being processed and can expect to receive them before Christmas.

Square Enix's 3DS game Final Fantasy Theatrhythm is now freely available for iOS devices, the developer has announced. But, unlike the 3DS version, the iPod, iPhone and iPad edition only comes with two tracks pre-installed. You have to buy the rest through in-app purchases. Extra tracks are priced at 69p each. The rhythm-based Final Fantasy spin-off launched on 3DS earlier this year with 76 songs included. A further 56 tracks have been released as DLC (each sold to the tune of 90p).On iOS, the game currently has 111 tracks to download, with exclusive tunes from Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children and GameCube spin-off Crystal Chronicles.iOS users can also pay to download extra exclusive characters such as Tifa from Final Fantasy 7 and Serah from 13-2.How much will it cost to download the lot? Siliconera has done the sums and calculated you'll pay $143 (roughly £88) for every piece of content.

Ars Technica reports that Google's map application for iOS, however popular it might be with users, raises red flags with European regulators, who maintain that it by default does not sufficiently safeguard user privacy as required by EU privacy rules. Ars quotes Marit Hansen of Germany's Independent Centre for Privacy Protection on why: "Hansen's main gripe is that Google's use of 'anonymous' is misleading. 'All available information points to having linkable identifiers per user," she told Computerworld. Hansen added this would allow Google to track several location entries, thus leading to her assumption that Google's 'anonymous location data' would be considered 'personal data' under the European law."

Rockstar has released Grand Theft Auto: Vice City 10th Anniversary Edition for select Android devices following a week-long delay.
Priced at £3.74, the game features native high-resolution graphics, updated character models and lighting effects, new firing and targeting options, plus a customisable control layout. The title was originally expected to launch last Thursday alongside the iOS version.
"Apologies to all of our Android-using fans for the slight delay," Rockstar said today.
"If you already purchased Vice City 10th Anniversary Edition while it was briefly available on Google Play last week, you won't need to re-purchase it - just download the latest update from Google Play (if your phone is set to automatically download updates then you're already all set to go)."
Rockstar founder Sam Houser said of the game: "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is everything we loved about the 80's packed into a sprawling open world action game. We're thrilled to let mobile and tablet players experience everything Vice City has to offer."
We called the 2002 PS2 version of the game phenomenal in our original Grand Theft Auto Vice City review.

Keeping map data relevant's a full-time job -- just ask Nokia,Google and, yes, even Apple. Which is why Microsoft may be gearing up to offload some of that heavy lifting to users in theaugmented reality guise of mobile gaming. Or at least that's one possible future outlined by a recently surfaced patent application. The USPTO doc, filed back in June of 2011, clearly lays out a crowdsourced "data collection system" whereby users sent on virtual missions to specific real-world targets would aid in the gathering of up-to-date geo-location data. With its thriving Xbox gaming arm and reinvigorated inroads into the mobile space, it wouldn't be much of a stretch for Microsoft to leverage a bit of corporate synergy to make its own mapping service more accurate, or simply license the data. Whatever the case may be, it's all up in legal limbo for the time being. So, for now, you'll have to content yourselves with AR missions of the Ingress kind.

The appearance of new Nokia firmware on NaviFirm is already enough to pique the interest of owners jonesing for an update, and this time there's especially strong reasons to get fired up: Windows Phone 7.8 upgrades for both the Lumia 510and 800 have appeared on the servers. While their presence doesn't represent an official rollout, it supports notions that Nokia is edging closer to a deployment and gives those who live dangerously a chance to try 7.8 for themselves. We can't guarantee that phones will survive any unofficial transplants, but we'd love to hear from risk-takers who find something truly new in Microsoft's not-quite-8 release.

Barely a fortnight after Apple unleashed iTunes 11 into the wild, the software's first notable update is making its way into OS X's Software Update. While only bumping it to v11.0.1, the refresh adds the ability to easily weed out duplicate items in one's iTunes library -- a feature that was mysteriously removed in the original move from iTunes 10 to iTunes 11. We're also told that it solves an issue where "purchases in iCloud may not appear in one's library if iTunes Match is turned on," makes the program as a whole more responsive when sifting through a vast music library, and solves a quirk where the AirPlay button may not "appear as expected." For those eager enough, a simple refresh of Software Update should have you on your way to a little newness.

December 13th, 2012, 23:55 Posted By: wraggster
Networks were successful in distributing mobile entertainment to their customers though their own stores several years ago, but we're living in a different world today.
Native stores built into operating systems, like Android's Google Play, account for 89 per cent of the 81 billion downloaded smartphone and tablet apps, according to ABI Research, and that's only likely to grow as the trend of operator billing picks up.
Indeed, BlackBerry and Google have both recently integrated Bango's mobile payments solution into their respective app stores to allow shoppers to pay for their content on monthly bills instead of making an immediate payment.
Aapo Markkanen, senior analyst, said: "The current status quo is based on storefronts that the operating system vendors provide as part of the OS experience, and there is no evidence that this would change in the future.
"A year ago it still looked like that, for example, mobile operators could find a viable business case in the curation of Android apps, but that opportunity evaporated once Google got its storefront act together. Today, it makes sense for operators to distribute apps only under special circumstances, such as the ones that we're seeing in China.
"Running a user-friendly app distribution channel is expensive. Besides the adequate hosting and billing systems it takes quite a lot of human labor, since successful app discovery requires some form of editorial approach. The opportunity for smaller storefronts built around selected categories is therefore limited."
There are exceptions to the rule though, demonstrated with B2B apps and selected consumer categories that bigger stores don't want to be associated with, such as adult. Mikandi is a prime example; a mobile porn store that has built a business out of the distribution of explicit content.

Google’s chief executive, Eric Schmidt has claimed that Google has widened its lead over Apple and likened the difference to the Apple-Microsoft relationship of the 1990’s.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Schmidt said that Android had taken 72 per cent of the smart phone market share in Q3, compared to Apple’s 14 per cent.
“This is a huge platform change; this is of the scale of 20 years ago – Microsoft versus Apple. We’re winning that war pretty clearly now,” commented Schmidt.

A survey by Morgan Stanley has found that nearly half of Americans are interested in buying an Apple branded TV, even though the product is not even close to being made.
According to the research, 11 per cent of respondents stated that they would be ‘extremely interested’ in buying such a device, which apparently translates to 13 million unit sales in the US along. A further 36 per cent said they were ‘somewhat interested’, which would boost that sales total up to 56 million units.
46 per cent of the respondents even said they’d be willing to pay over $1000 for an Apple branded TV, while ten per cent said they would pay over $2000.
All this is despite the fact that the proposed Apple television set is still in pre-design phase. Various design ideas are reportedly being tested by the US company in conjunction with its Asian manufacturing partners, Sharp and Foxconn.
However some commentators, most notably former Apple executive Jean-Louis Gassee, are sceptical about the product ever making it to launch, noting that even if Apple TV sales were to grow ten-fold they would still only account for two per cent of Apple’s overall income.

The eSfere video game console has made its way onto crowd-funding site Idiegogo and intends to bring Android apps to your living room TV.
“Mobile apps have transformed the electronic gaming ecosystem. Each week thousands of new titles, with remarkable graphics and audio, are available for smartphones and tablets for low prices or even free,” reads eSfere’s Indiegogo page.
“Why should we settle for playing them on a 4 inch, 7 inch or 10 inch screen device? Why can’t we enjoy our favourite games on our large screen TV at high quality without having to resort to home video game consoles and their high priced games?”
The console boasts a Tegra3 quad core processor or above, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal flash storage, two USB ports, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, HDMI connection for up to 1080p HD, multitouch gamepad controller with integrated accelerometer and gyroscope, and Android 4.1 operating system.
The gamepad controller is designed to keep the touch surface experience of a mobile device, but those who have longed for physical buttons on their tablet or smartphone will be pleased to hear that the eSfere controller comes with a set of detachable silicone buttons and d-pads to easily adapt to your favourite games.
This console is potentially good news for both gamers and developers. Users can pay a relatively small amount for an app-port of an AAA game and play it on a big TV, and developers don’t need to make special adaptations, just continue making Android games as they normally would.
The eSfere needs to raise $390,000 by January 21st. Check out the eSfere Indiegogo page to find out more.

Know what's better than the gossamer promise of an early 2013 release date for Windows Phone 7.8? Any and all little tidbits that elucidate just what it could herald for legions ofbruised Mango users. According to an alleged Nokia customer feedback survey obtained by WMPoweruser, that OS upgrade may bring with it a few additional, albeit minor enhancements outside of the (already confirmed) expanded start screen, like options for enhanced lock screen security, a Bing image of the day wallpaper, plus 20 new color themes. On the Nokia side of things, it appears Lumia owners will get to enjoy a few software perks as well -- namely, that of the gif-making Cinemagraph app and an expanded set of camera lenses. In all, this rumored feature set isn't exactly the most robust, but it'ssomething. We've reached out to Nokia for comment, but so far the company hasn't returned our request. In the meantime, consider this slice of news as solid as WP 7.8's release date.

With the Kickstarted Ouya now very much on the way, you might think that the Android Console market was all sewn up.
Apparently not.
Seattle based start-up (and CAPS LOCK nightmare) eSfere Entertainment claims to have designed “a unique video game console that will allow people to play their favourite Android games at high quality from the very first minute”.
The machine will apparently have “strong technical specifications” and ship with a wireless touchpad controller. The idea behind this is that it will be instantly compatible with games designed for Android smartphones – something that could still prove an issue for Ouya’s traditional joypad.
“Developers will not need to worry about re-adapting their games specifically for this machine,” the official release reads. “It will keep the touch controls inherent to mobile gaming, but the action will jump from 4", 7" or 10" devices to large screen displays.”
More details about the machine will be released tomorrow.
