Vodafone UK has warned users of Apple's iPhone 4S not to update to the firm's newest operating system amidst connection issues.
The provider has warned its customers via text that updating to the device's iOS 6.1 operating system could cause intermittent issues surrounding 3G and internet connectivity.
Whilst acknowledging the issues, Vodafone has shifted the blame towards Apple itself for the problems, whilst also stating that Cupertino is working on a solution.
However, Apple has yet to address or confirm any of the highlighted issues, or even state it is working to fix the issue.
Addressing the connectivity issues on its website, Vodafone said: "Some customers may occasionally experience difficulty in connecting to the network to make or receive calls or texts or to connect to the internet."
"Apple is working on a solution to their software issue. These connection problems are intermittent."
"While Apple's investigations continue, we would recommend that anyone who has not yet installed iOS 6.1 on their iPhone 4S should delay doing so until Apple has confirmed that their problem has been fixed."
The iOS 6.1 update introduced a number of improvements to Apple's voice recognition software Siri, allowing users to purchase film tickets and purchase individual iTunes tracks.

A new report by Cisco reveals a remarkable growth in mobile traffic, driven by video.
The data shows that video accounted for over 50 per cent of all mobile traffic for the first time in 2012, and Cisco reports that this is set to rise to 66.5 per cent by 2017. This means mobile video traffic will increase at a compound annual growth rate of 75 per cent.
Overall global mobile data traffic is set to increase 13-fold between 2012 and 2017, with at least two thirds of traffic being video.
Cisco says that a lot of the extra traffic was diverted into fixed broadband infrastructures, mostly via Wi-Fi, which relieves congested cellular backhaul networks. The firm predicts that 46 per cent of traffic generated by smartphones will be offloaded onto broadband by 2017 and the figure for tablets will be 71 per cent.

Ouya developers should be in for a relatively simple approval process for submitted games, CEO Julie Uhrman tells our friends at Engadget. Once games are submitted, they will be checked for "intellectual property infringement, and malware, and excessive pornography," says Uhrman. "Ultimately it's a quick review and you're in the storefront in one capacity or another."
Uhrman says the internal review process should begin in the "middle-to-end of this month." With Ouya Kickstarter backers set to receive the first consumer Ouya units in March, let's hope the turnaround is as quick as Uhrman implies. Assuming it is, there's plenty of time for the Ouya to build up its library before the full retail launch in June.

Thumbs twitching, in an attempt to get on that new Spotify beta? You might have had a frustrating morning. Multiple users are reporting that when trying to purchase or download apps on their Windows Phone they are instead receiving error code 805a0193. As handy as the code is, there's no further information about what is causing the problem. Unlikeprevious issues that seemed more localized, this current instance appears pretty widespread with reports coming from the US, and France amongst others. Are you affected? Let us know in the comments. In the meantime we've contacted Microsoft to see what's up.

We've clearly crossed a psychological barrier to digital media adoption when major content providers are going online-firston a regular basis. The BBC, despite its sometimes stuffy image, is revealing that it's just as eager to break with tradition: it's been given the go-ahead for a trial that will offer content on iPlayer before it appears on TV. The year-long test will offer up to 40 hours of regular BBC shows in advance, with no TV license fee required. While the selection of shows isn't yet public, the offering should be a bolder experiment than usual in showing whether or not iPlayer can serve as more than a catch-up tool or repository for exclusives. Let's hope it does -- we'd like to see online services treated as first-class citizens.

OUYA CEO Julie Uhrman's promising a quick, simple approval process for games on her company's upcoming Android-powered game console, the OUYA. She told us in an interview this week:"It's similar to mobile: they'll submit their games, and we'll review for intellectual property infringement, and malware, and excessive pornography. But ultimately it's a quick review and you're in the storefront in one capacity or another."
That's not the only mobile model OUYA's following; Urhman already said the OUYA hardware will iterate on an annual basis, similar to the mobile market.
Despite the console's impending March launch to Kickstarter supporters, OUYA's yet to begin reviewing games for its storefront. "We literally just opened the ability for developers to upload their games into the store," Uhrman explained. The review process isn't too far off, however -- she's predicting a "middle-to-end of this month" timeframe. "We're building that right now," she said, when asked who's staffing that approvals process. "We are a start-up like any other start-up, it's just-in-time business."
The first consumer-ready OUYA consoles are planned for a March launch, with availability at retail to follow in June. The $99 console made a big splash on Kickstarter, eventuallyraising over $8.5 million when the original goal was a meager $950K.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to offer enhanced performance, along with new and upgraded features.
Sony’s Xperia range of smartphones are set to benefit from Google’s Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update, which will offer users optimised performance and a host of new and upgraded features and applications.
At present, Sony Mobile is rolling out the Jelly Bean update to the Xperia T and Xperia V smartphones, while the Xperia TX is scheduled to be upgraded some time in March.
The update is designed to deliver more intuitive versions of Sony media apps, such as Walkman, Album and Movies, which will boast a new and improved library system. This will allow users to peruse their music, photos and videos in once single location.
Sony stated: "As soon as the Jelly Bean software is available for your device, you'll receive a notification in your phone," Sony states. "In most cases you'll have the option to download and update over-the-air, but in some instances the software package may only be accessible via PC Companion or Bridge for Mac."

Decision made as a result of low market share and high cost of modifying devices for local market.
BlackBerry has stated that it is to stop selling smartphones in Japan, citing low market share and high costs of modification for the local market as its main reasons, the Nikkei newspaper has reported.
According to the newspaper, BlackBerry’s market share has dropped from five per cent at its peak to a mere 0.3 per cent at the end of 2012.
However, while the manufacturer stated that its BlackBerry 10 based smartphones will not be launched in Japan, it did confirm that it will continue to offer support to its existing customers in the country.
"Japan is not a major market for BlackBerry, and we have no plans to launch BlackBerry 10 smartphones there at this time," the company confirmed in an emailed statement.
While BlackBerry may not be faring so well in Japan, the firm claimed earlier this week that it hadbroken its previous sales records in the UK and Canada with the launch of its Z10 smartphone.
Speaking yesterday (February 7th) BlackBerry president and CEO Thorsten Heins, revealed: "In Canada, yesterday was the best day ever for the first day of a launch of a new BlackBerry smartphone. In fact, it was more than 50 per cent better than any other launch day in our history in Canada.
"In the UK, we have seen close to three times our best performance ever for the first week of sales for a BlackBerry smartphone." he added.

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has said that the iPhone has fallen behind on features and that Apple can’t take the loyalty of its fans for granted.
According to Phone Arena, Wozniak observed that Samsung had caught up with Apple because it was making great products.
“I am proud that we have such loyal fans. But this loyalty is not given, the need to have the best products is always there,” said Wozniak at the Businessweek Best Brand Awards.
“Currently we are in my opinion somewhat behind with features in the smartphone business. Others have caught up. Samsung is a big competitor, but precisely because they are currently making great products.”

CNET is reporting 'Discovered last night within a freshly jailbroken iPad: a set of buttons and code references for "radio," a feature found in iTunes on Macs and PCs, but not on the iPad or iPhone.' ... 'The buttons hint at Apple's much-rumored radio service, a product that will let people stream music much like they do on the popular Pandora service, but with deep ties to Apple's iTunes library.' ... 'The discovery follows a high-profile jailbreak of iOS 6.1, the updated system software Apple released just last week. A team of developers came up with a tool that gives users deep system-level access to do things like install applications from third-party app stores, change the look and feel of iOS, and add new software features.

Double Fine and Words with Friends co-creator Paul Bettner developing for $99 console
New versions of tny Android console Ouya will be released on a yearly basis, the company’s CEO has said.
Speaking to Engadget, Julie Uhrman said the firm would be following a strategy similar to mobile companies, and launch a new iteration every year.
Uhrman added the idea of releasing annually was to make sure it could include new faster processors, as well as taking advantage of the drop in price for various features.
Despite the plan to release annually, she stated that all future consoles would be backward-compatabile, with games tied to users in a similar way to digital distribution platform Steam – rather than tied to specific hardware.
“Our strategy is very much similar to the mobile strategy,” said Uhrman. “There will be a new Ouya every year. There will be an Ouya 2 and an Ouya 3.”

Gang of 12 youths ransacked 45 mobile stores in London last year.
Jail terms were this week handed out to a gang of 12 youths who robbed hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of stock from Carphone Warehouse, O2 and Vodafone stores last summer, Mobile News has reported.
The gang hit 45 stores across London, leaving members of staff distressed after violently removing smartphones and tablets from displays.
Collectively, the gang will serve eight years and eight months in jail, after all 12 submitted guilty pleas to one offence of conspiracy to commit burglary.
Police arrested the gang following an intelligence-led operation by the National Mobile Phone Crime Unit (NMPCU), supported by Croydon CID.
NMPCU detective chief inspector Robert Mahoney, commented: “These convictions should act as a warning to anyone involved in this type of activity that the MPS will robustly and swiftly deal with those who use intimidation to fulfil their greed.
“We have worked closely with key business partners, including Carphone Warehouse and local boroughs impacted by these offences, to obtain vital evidence and reduce the fear of crime and the professionalism of officers and staff will ensure this particular gang no longer represent a threat to Londoners.”
Carphone Warehouse said: “The safety and welfare of our employees and customers are our main priorities. After a series of robberies on our stores, we are pleased that the individuals responsible have been caught and will be sentenced in February. We will continue to work closely with the National Mobile Phone Crime Unit and the police to assist them with any further enquiries.”

Microsoft's Windows 8 powered tablets have beaten rival devices from the likes of Apple and Android to take the crown as the tablet of choice for work.
A study from Forrester polled 9,766 "information workers" and found that when given the choice, they would rather have a Windows 8 device than an iPad.
32 per cent of participants declared their desire for a Windows 8 machine, whilst just 26 per cent said they would prefer an iPad.
Meanwhile, Android flagged way behind at the back of the pack as just 12 per cent of those polled requested a device running Google's operating system.
The news should provide a handy boost to Microsoft, which recently revealed it shipped 900,000 Surfaces into the channel as of Q42012 and released its Pro edition of the device this month, which packs the full version of Windows 8 - a significant improvement over the RT version of the OS that ships with the standard Surface.
Forrester's report also concluded that Apple is on pace to win the next-gen smartphone war, with the firm's OSX platform powering 58 per cent of all tablets. And whilst Android beat out Apple in current smartphone use, 33 per cent of users selected the iPhone as their most desired device.
