Although it hasn't been directly announced as an N-Gage phone, Nokia's official publicity photos show their new N96 model running the Star Wars N-Gage game, and also show dedicated gaming keys similar to those on the N81. Click on this news item to see the photos...
The N96's design is a combination of the N95 and the N81. It has a normal keypad for general use, and a slideout section on the other side that can be used for both multimedia controls and gaming controls.

February 19th, 2008, 21:49 Posted By: wraggster
Nokia has finally given a clear statement that there WILL be enhanced versions of N-Gage games for phones with 3D acceleration chips. Phones without the chips will get the same games, but because they use software to generate 3D their graphics will be less snazzy-looking.
No 3D-enhanced games have been released on N-Gage so far, though the original 2006 demo of System Rush Evolution did use the N93 and N95 3D accelerator.
Nokia haven't said which games will receive chip-enhanced versions, or when, but this is the first time they have said directly that there will be two versions of some games. Previously they'd umm-ed and ahh-ed on the topic, possibly concerned about alienating owners of phones without the chip, but it seems they've now made up their minds to go down the two version route.
As older readers may remember, this dual-version approach is how 3D acceleration hardware was first introduced on the PC, with games using the hardware if it was present but managing to do without it if necessary. The N-Gage platform is arguably much closer in spirit to the PC than consoles, because new phone models are being released on a constant basis rather than generational basis. It therefore makes sense to use the PC model when introducing new hardware technology to N-Gage games.
Which N-Gage phones have a 3D accelerator chip?
The following N-Gage phones DO have 3D accelerator chips: Nokia N82, N93, N93i, N95, N95 8GB and N96.
The following N-Gage phones DO NOT have the chips: Nokia N73, N81 and N81 8GB.
Some other Nokia phones do have the chips, but haven't yet been added to the N-Gage platform so we haven't listed them.

Nokia and THQ Wireless Inc. (wholly owned by THQ Inc. (NASDAQ: THQI), a leading publisher of mobile games, announced an agreement to bring Team17's Worms World Party to a range of Nokia devices through the N-Gage games service.
Adam Comiskey - International VP THQ Wireless commented, "Worms has always been a great success on mobile devices and the N-Gage technology has allowed us to produce the most advanced, faithful and visually impressive mobile edition of Worms to date."
"Worms is an excellent fit with the new N-Gage service," added Gregg Sauter, Director of 3rd party publishing, Nokia. "N-Gage is all about fun games that are easy to pick up and hard to put down - which is the Worms experience in a nutshell."
Worms World Party will be massively updated from its original, award-winning N-Gage version and includes vibrant graphics allowing the player to visualize enemy terrain, while retaining all of the functionality in a reduced size. With N-Gage's enhanced 3D gaming capabilities, Worms World Party levels sport a slick new look including the much-loved, hilarious Worm animations. New for this outing is the addition of the zany Worms voice taunts which really bring the game to life.
Worms World Party features six level themes inspired by the best of the Worms series featuring the hot lava fields of hell, the freezing ice caverns, an arid desert, pirate islands, alien space worlds and tribal rock environments. Fans will also enjoy all the classic weapons, including the Super Sheep and the much fabled Holy Hand-Grenade.
On N-Gage Arena, up to four players can compete with one another across the globe with online death-match gaming. Online options will include matchmaking to help easily find people to play, a friends list and a high-score leaderboard.
Worms World Party also takes advantage of the new N-Gage Points feature that rewards skilful players for in-game achievements such as battling enemies and retaining all their Worm crew, or blasting multiple adversary Worms in a single move.
Worms World Party for N-Gage is expected to be available in the first half of 2008.

Brace yourself Gizmondo fans, for it seems that not all of Carl Freer's recent prognostications about the resurrection of the ill-fated handheld are exactly coming to pass. While he apparently is still intent on bringing the handheld back from the dead, he now tells Swedish journalist Hans Sandberg that he was being "too optimistic" with the stated May 2008 launch date, and that it should now be available "by the end of 2008." That deal with Plextek to build the new device apparently is still in place, however, and Freer's "co-pilot" in this latest endeavor, Mikael Ljungman, is reportedly on his way to China this week to check out the manufacturing operations. Needless to say, we'll be keeping you posted on any future developments, or future delays.

According to man-about-town, Robert X. Cringely, Samsung is readying not one, but two separate Android-based phones, one of which is due in September, with another model following around Christmas. If you believe what you read (and what his tipster says), these phones will not be labeled Samsung, rather they will be released as Google-branded gPhones. The model released in the Fall will be a "higher-end" model which apparently looks "somewhat like a Blackberry Pearl" but with a screen that flips and "a keyboard for texting" (though to be honest, that description makes little sense, as the Pearl has a keyboard). The second device will be a cheaper model (under $100), and will likely be released after the holidays. Of course, right now this is just speculation -- given the large gap of time between now and September, these plans could be completely rearranged or nixed altogether... even if they are accurate.

Although the MacBook Air's multitouch trackpad is pretty nifty, it looks like Apple has even grander plans in store -- a recent patent filing describes the MBA's current features as "Basic Multitouch" and contains descriptions of "Advanced" touch operations like system control, file management and browser navigation. While the filing details using a combination of the thumb and two fingers to cut, copy and paste -- something that seems awfully relevant to that little iPhone thing Apple sells -- what we're most intrigued by is the description of the "side pinky swipe" to control system functions like volume and screen brightness. Since the side of the pinky produces a different shape than your fingertip on the touch sensor, the system can automatically recognize it, making it ideal for quick adjustments -- we're already dreaming up lists of macros to trigger. Of course, there's no telling if and when we'll ever see this stuff in a product, but it's probably not a coincidence the iPhone, iPod touch, and MacBook Air all use the same Broadcom touch controller -- let's hope those long-awaited new MacBook Pros join the club, eh?

READ FIRST
- To 1.1.3 Users
1.1.3 is is not supported yet. So please don't install if you're. It will not work. Why ? well I have only one iPhone(phone and toy as well) I don't want to take the risk of upgrading it to 1.1.3. That's it.

- To 1.0.2 & 1.1.1 users
Congrats, I'm sticky on 1.0.2, so sure it will work without any problems. Also I have the chance to debug my app on my friend's 1.1.1 phone and all features should work also on 1.1.1
- What's new since 1.0 RC1 ?
* A new helper module(dylib) is introduced and by injecting it into the SpringBoard process, iSMS now can take over the default apple SMS application! (Currently only support 1.0.2/1.1.1)
* Simple but True SMS BlackList?, yes it's true! No pop up, no daemon! Message will be deleted silently though.
* New recipient UI. after several days's hard reversing, I finally managed to use the system UI components to display the recipients. More apple-ish Now!
* Save to draft
* Template customization
* Could remove the 1000 message capacity limit.

iMapIdle is an iPhone application that simulates "Push Email" with your IMAP server. It's in its early stages but the current features are:
- listens in the background waiting for new IMAP mail even if you are in sleep/standby mode
- notifies you via a popup and/or sound. You choose how to be notified. Sound notification should use the same method your mail client uses (ie: if you have vibrate on, it'll vibrate as well)
- popup notification allows you to choose whether the mail client should check for email right there by forcing the mail client to check the server (it doesn't launch the mail client but just forces it to check the server). NOTE: Don't choose this if you are in the mail client as it will exit (you've been warned). The popup will disappear after 20 seconds and if you miss it the iMapIdle icon will show you how many popup notifications you have missed
- supports SSL connections and special support for GMail IMAP http://iphone.rustyredwagon.com/

twenty08 are about the release MobileChat v2.1 this week...
Read on:
Weâll be release MobileChat 2.1 later this week/this weekend. It works fully on 1.1.3.This isnât a major release, itâs more of a compatibility release with a few fixes and a feature add:
- Works on 1.1.3
- DNS Issue that plagued 1.x and 2.0 has been resolved.
- BSD Subsystem dependency should be gone.
- Added support for XMPP
- Tweaked GTalk settings
- Sign On progress notifications (as seen in screenshots)
- Disconnect Notification: if you get kicked off, or you canât sign on, youâll be alerted now
AIM is working fine, the hold up is with XMPP/GTalk. While we resolved the DNS issues that really held both services back during the initial release of 2.0, weâre running into issues with authentication on both services now. Weâre exploring the option of upgrading to libpurple 2.3, and have it 95% compiled on the iPhone at this point. Should only be another few days to finish up the port of libpurple to the iPhone and then upgrading the method calls in the application.
Iâm sure the AIM users are going to be saying âI donât care about XMPP, I want it nowâ however, believe me, a newly compiled libpurple on the iPhone will definitely improve performance.
Stay tuned guys!
Oh, and for those of you who really canât wait for us to release this later this week, SVN Revision 72 works fine for AIM.

February 19th, 2008, 17:05 Posted By: wraggster
Following a short overview on the state of the N-Gage platform, we had a chance to ask J. Dan Scott â the Global Head of Production for Nokia Game Publishing â a few questions about the platform and the nebulous launch date. First up, Scott said there's no solid release date for the service -- the First Access program is supposed to help iron out any kinks in the admittedly ambitious launch. Launched earlier this month, the First Access program was initially limited to just the Nokia N81 handset, to limit the testing concerns, Scott said. Nevertheless, the internet had other plans, quickly enabling functionality on the N95 handset which, curiously enough, Scott said accounted for more than half of the connections to the service.
Roughly 30K users have downloaded the client to date â far more than the 2K or so Scott anticipated â and those early adopters have purchased "thousands" of games, a conversion rate that also impressed Scott (though he did admit these consumers are particularly passionate about games). The largest challenge: getting out of the mobile industry's "landfill stage" and prove to consumers (and skeptical game bloggers!) that quality gaming is possible on a mobile handset, while proving to third-party publishers that investing in developing quality games can be a lucrative endeavor. Yikes, best of luck!

Dr Mark Ollila on the challenges ahead for the Nokia gaming platform
Nokia's N-Gage software gaming platform is out to solve three key issues in the mobile space: "Discovery, ease of use, accessibility."
That's according to Dr Mark Ollila, the company's director of technology and strategy, talking to GamesIndustry.biz on the eve of the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.
"You've got to remember Nokia's DNA, its values, is connecting people," he said. "And what we're doing with gaming, with N-Gage, is connecting people through play."
And he went on to say that the primary benchmark for success will be the number of active users over time in the N-Gage community.
"With the fact that we're shipping a lot of devices a year, and they'll be N-Gage compatible - we have a lot of devices which are already on the market which are N-Gage compatible - I think we've got a great opportunity to actually have higher community penetration."
The N-Gage platform is currently available to N81 users for beta-testing, and will be rolled out to additional handsets over time.

Open today for public beta after long last, DVD Jon's first, um, "legit" software business venture: doubleTwist Desktop, a Windows-based app intended to help seamlessly organize, transcode, and sync your various media types to devices like the PSP, Kindle, and Symbian S60 and UIQ phones, as well as share online through Facebook. (Apparently a Mac version is due in Q2.) Nary a mention of DRM stripping or the like (just a couple references to "liberating" your iTunes media -- convert it to MP3, stripping the FairPlay DRM), just a whole lot of talk about making your media easy to move between devices and share with friends.

It's turning into quite the day for shuffle aficionados. Apple just slash the price on its 1GB iPod shuffle this AM to a very palatable $49, and now the company is pushing a brand new 2GB version out the door for $69. The color selections will be the same as little brother, including a (PRODUCT) RED version. It'll be available later this month.

Sega of America boss Simon Jeffery told MCV that the firm was very excited to have forged a working relationship with Apple.
âThe iPod is arguably the most pervasive cross-demographic piece of consumer electronics today,â said Jeffery. âThere are no age or fashion barriers to iPod adoption, and making Sonic available to tens of millions of iPod owners really is a fantastic opportunity for us.
âWe donât have anything to talk about at this time in terms of future projects, but naturally we are thrilled and honoured that Apple chose to partner with Sega.â
The iPod is currently a closed platform to developers â and Jeffery said Sega was âhonouredâ to have been picked as a partner by Apple.
âiTunes and Apple's whole banking/payment system is flawless,â he added. âThey have to be one of the smartest companies in the world. Being able to buy a game and have it on your iPod with a couple of clicks is just brilliant.â
When asked whether it saw Apple as an up-and-coming rival to the casually-skewed DS, Nintendo UK told MCV that it didnât comment on the âactivities of current or potential competitorsâ.
