Held at the I/ITSEC Conference in Orlando FL, the international challenge has become a great venue to showcase the best serious games in the industry. Each year, the finalists are given the opportunity to showcase their games at the conference in the SGS&C booth. This allows the finalists to display their games and interact with over 20,000 attendees.

Apple's Secret Plan To Join iPhones With Airport Security

Currently — as most of us know — TSA agents briefly examine government ID and boarding passes as each passenger presents their documents at a checkpoint at the end of a security line but Thom Patterson writes at CNN that under a 2008 Apple patent application that was approved in July and filed under the working title "iTravel," a traveler's phone would automatically send electronic identification to a TSA agent as soon as the traveler got in line and as each traveler waits in line, TSA agents would examine the electronic ID at an electronic viewing station. Next, at the X-ray stations, a traveler's phone would confirm to security agents that the traveler's ID had already been checked. Apple's patent calls for the placement of special kiosks (PDF) around the airport which will automatically exchange data with your phone via a close range wireless technology called near field communication (NFC). Throughout the process, the phone photo could be displayed on a screen for comparison with the traveler. Facial recognition software could be included in the process. Several experts say a key question that must be answered is: How would you prove that the phone is yours? To get around this problem, future phones or electronic ID may require some form of biometric security function including photo, fingerprint and photo retinal scan comparisons. Of course, there is still a ways to go. If consumers, airlines, airports and the TSA don't embrace the NFC kiosks, experts say it's unlikely Apple's vision would become reality. 'First you would have to sell industry on Apple's idea. Then you'd have to sell it to travel consumers,' says Neil Hughes of Apple Insider. 'It's a chicken-and-egg problem.'"

Android Hacked Via NFC On the Samsung Galaxy S 3

Security researchers participating in the Mobile Pwn2Own contest at the EuSecWest Conference in Amsterdam [Wednesday] demonstrated how to hack Android through a Near Field Communication (NFC) vulnerability. The 0day exploit was developed by four MWR Labs employees (two in South Africa and two in the UK) for a Samsung Galaxy S 3 phone running Android 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich). Two separate security holes were leveraged to completely take over the device, and download all the data from it.

iPhone 5 is for old people and idiots, according to the new Samsung Galaxy S3 ad

Samsung is continuing its campaign against Apple with a new TV ad taking the piss out of iPhone 5 and Apple hipsters.
Although Apple or the iPhone 5 is never actually named, it’s more than obvious that Samsung is singling the company out with the ad showing a long queue of people all wearing white headphones and talking about getting a bigger screen and 4G.
Rather than just letting the smartphone speak for itself, Samsung is hell bent on proving that the Galaxy S3 is far superior to the iPhone. The Korean firm recently released a print advert listing all the features of the two phones, showing the S3’s list of specs to be much longer than Apple’s new handset.

HTC unveils two WinPho 8 phones

HTC was a big ally of Microsoft before becoming the go-to OEM of the early Android era. It made some terrible phones based on the lamentable Windows Mobile OSs of the mid-noughties.
Now, of course, Microsoft has sharpened up its act considerably with WinPho – while HTC's market share in the Android space has slipped.
So the two are back together again. HTC did make devices based on WinPho 7, but you get the sense it will be pushing its new new WinPho 8 handsets much harder.
The Windows Phone 8X and 8S are immediately identifiable by their colour – they come in California Blue, Graphite Black, Flame Red and Limelight Yellow for the 8X and Domino Black-White, Fiesta Red, Atlantic Blue and High-Rise Grey-Yellow for the 8S.
The other big USP is the addition of Beats audio tech. The painfully trendy accessory company is part owned by HTC, and it's powered the phones to 'boost the audio signal'.
Then there's the ultra-wide angle front-facing camera that allows up to four people and more to be captured at once. A physical shutter button makes it easy to capture spontaneous action, even if the phone is locked.
In terms of display, 8X features a 4.3� HD-resolution super LCD 2 screen, while the 8S has a 4� screen. Both are protected by lightweight Gorilla Glass.
The X will be available in 50 countries beginning in early November with 126 mobile operators. The 8S will be available in 52 countries beginning in November with 146 mobile operators.

600 Fox film and TV titles hit Google Play and YouTube

Glee, Prometheus, X-Men and more available for Android devices and the web.
Google has been playing the Netflix streaming game in recent months, adding more than 600 MGM titles like Robocop to its streaming library back in April.
This time, Twentieth Century Fox has joined the platform and will also contribute a 600 strong selection of content for Google Play and YouTube, offering Family Guy, X-Men and Ice Age.
The videos are accessible on Android smartphones/ tablets and the web, though they will only be available in the US before rolling out internationally.

Hotel GB Multiplatform offering gets boost from game

Channel 4 has commissioned a bespoke game for Hotel GB to further engage viewers and boost the already comprehensive Hotel GB multiplatform offering.

Created by Dundee based Tag Games the Hotel GB themed game will be available for iPhone, iPad and Android devices and will launch just ahead of the show's first episode on October 1^st. It will be completely free for viewers to download and play.

The game will allow players to run their very own Hotel GB offering them a chance to find out just how challenging a job in the hospitality industry can be. Players must try to run as slick an operation as possible, training staff up, and attempting to expand the hotel as much as possible.

Team leaders from the new prime time Channel 4 series - Gordon Ramsay and Mary Portas - will appear in the game as avatars, coming round to check up on players progress, offering constructive feedback on players' performance, and for a job done well, allowing a bigger and glitzier hotel than before.

Players who manage to cope with a range of special event, keep demanding guests happy and pass Mary & Gordon’s inspections will get to expand the hotel to add restaurants, bars, lounges, bedrooms, and more. When things get too much and time's tight, players can even resort to deploying a cunning array of traps to delay Gordon and Mary checking up on their progress.

Players can update their friends on progress in their very own Hotel GB through the featured Facebook and Twitter integration.
