Social network focused on being a hub for games on all mobile platforms
Facebook is not developing its own mobile hardware, the social network giant has told Develop.
When asked whether there were any plans for a Facebook phone to help expand its website as a games service and take advantage of its enormous userbase, developer advocate Simon Cross said unequivocally “there is no Facebook phone”.
Facebook has been rumoured to be working on its own mobile hardware for a number of years, but Cross insisted that the company was focused on making the social network a hub for gaming on all mobile devices.
He said the company was looking to leverage its 500 million mobile users to support developers and games on both iOS and Android, and as previously announced had driven 170 million users to the App Store and Google play in July alone.
When asked whether Facebook was concerned about driving users away from the site’s own games to other devices, Cross said this simply wasn’t the case.

Whilst enjoying the success of its latest iPhone 5 smartphone, Apple will have one more thing to celebrate as it has been voted as the coolest brand in the UK.
The survey, which is conducted by CoolBrands annually, polled over 3,000 consumers and a panel of 39 different experts.
Apple took the top spot of cool, whilst other technology and online firms celebrated success as YouTube, Twitter, Google and BBC iPlayer all appeared within the top ten.
Meanwhile, winner of the survey's past six polls, Aston Martin, appears to have lost its cool as it slipped to third place.
Other previously popular brands, which have dropped out of the top 20 include Ferrari, Chanel and Vivienne Westwood.
Surprisingly, a quarter of the survey's top brands are free to consumers.
Apple will undoubtedly take this as a moral victory over its closest rival Samsung, which continues to lead anadvertising campaign that attempts to mock the firm, its latest iPhone and its user base, in favour of its own Galaxy S3 device.
Quite how an advertising campaign - which is designed to alienate consumers and, essentially, make a mockery of them for liking the iPhone - is supposed to convert them to Samsung baffles me.
Even sweeter for Apple though will be the absence of Samsung from the poll's top 20 brands.
Apple fanboys rejoice, as for now, you are officially cool.

Apple has sold five million iPhone 5 handsets in three days, following sales beginning on Friday, September 21st.
That outshines the efforts of the iPhone 4S, which hit four million in its debut weekend last October.
Of course, demand was already through the roof with iPhone 5 pre-orders passing two million in 24 hours – more than doubling and tripling the respective efforts of the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 – though many buyers aren't likely to receive their orders until next month.
The 5 is available in the US, the UK, Australia, Canada, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore at launch, but will land in 22 more countries on September 28th.
The goal is to reach more than 100 countries by the close of 2012, which will likely add to sales surge ahead of Christmas.
Meanwhile, 100m iOS device owners have already upgraded to iOS 6 – despite a huge disliking for Apple Maps.
Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, said: "Demand for iPhone 5 has been incredible and we are working hard to get an iPhone 5 into the hands of every customer who wants one as quickly as possible.
"While we have sold out of our initial supply, stores continue to receive iPhone 5 shipments regularly and customers can continue to order online and receive an estimated delivery date. We appreciate everyone’s patience and are working hard to build enough iPhone 5s for everyone."
In other iPhone-related news, one O2 worker was so keen to get his hands on a device that he stole 252 handsets from his store.

Soccer Dash is a new fun and addictive football game app that will keep you hooked for days and days. In the app you play a footballer whose goal is to run the most metres without getting sent off. The app features different obstacles to avoid, some of which you'll need to go round or with a tap of your finger on the screen jump over. The obstacles range from cones, barriers, bombs or even a tackling player who will come in from the side. Each obstacle you hit will get you a card, yellow at first, however, if you get two yellows your next will be a red and you'll soon be keeping the bench warm.
Your skill as a footballer can also help you remove your cards. Kicking ten balls in a row will remove one yellow card and keep you in the game for longer. Your skill will also be a help when The Master Tactician blimp appears. The blimp contains a super-fast and invincible bonus mode. Aiming the footballs at the blimp, by moving the smart device left or right while kicking, will knock the blimp out of the air. This bonus will speed up your footballer while making him invincible to all obstacles; however, don't get too comfortable as your extra super powers only last a few moments. ‘Road Runner’ is an action-packed single player title that aims to fuel-inject some adrenalin into the Android App Market by combining the popular infinite runner template with the speed and excitement of an arcade racer. In the year 2034 citizens no longer turn to the Police to track down criminals, instead they hire mercenaries to complete jobs for cold cash. Designed by Jordan Mechner, best known as the creator of the Prince of Persia franchise and martial-arts classic Karateka, The Last Express is an intrigue-filled adventure set aboard the luxurious Orient Express.
In July 1914, on the eve of World War I, as the train departs on its final journey from Paris to Constantinople, the player steps into the shoes of Robert Cath, an American doctor with a mysterious past. A fugitive from French police, Cath, boards the train in answer to an urgent telegram from his best friend – and plunges into a maelstrom of conspiracy, romance and murder.
The DotEmu release is a faithful iOS port of the original game. The Last Express allows players to interact in real time with 30 characters representing a cross-section of pre-WWI Europe, including Serbian freedom fighters, a German arms dealer, a Russian anarchist, a beautiful Austrian concert violinist, a eunuch guarding a Turkish harem, and a mysterious art collector travelling in his own private car. As the train races east, the player must stay alive while eavesdropping on conversations, sneaking into compartments, battling deadly opponents and defusing a bomb. The story is non-linear; characters act independently, conversing and moving about the train even when the player is not there to witness them, so that every play-through of the game is different.

The big surprise for this update is the introduction of LEADER BOARDS! You can now challenge friends and other budding botanists at getting the highest score for each of the 60 levels and the overall score for each seed packet. Version 6.10 of Spark 360 is now on Google Play. This is largely an optimization and maintenance release; it should considerably reduce the app’s memory footprint, add additional support for higher-resolution devices, and fix a number of bugs, including an issue with Friend/Profile Home Screen shortcuts. Note that if you have existing shortcuts, you may have to delete, then add them again.
I’ve been receiving feedback about occasional “redirection” errors from Xbox Live – note that this is an issue with Xbox Live server’s availability, not the app itself. Things should have stabilized by now, but just be aware that they may be ongoing (though sporadic).

Xploding Boxes has been updated to version 4.0, bringing with it a collection of new features. This update comes with 20 new levels, increasing the total number of levels to 340. These new levels also support a new ‘Diamond’ shape in order to add more variety to the levels. Also the range of supported devices has expanded to include BlackBerry 10, and Windows 8 in addition to the existing support for Android, the Nook, BlackBerry phones, and the BlackBerry PlayBook.
New Diamond shape
The levels added in this version (321-340) introduce a new diamond shape. Unlike the boxes (which explode out in four directions), and the triangles (which explode in only one direction), the diamonds explode into two directions. As such their effect on a level is usually somewhere between that of a box and a triangle. This additional variable results in more level variation, and will allow for more creative levels to be designed.
New device support
Xploding Boxes started out exclusive to BlackBerry phones. Then a year ago, support was added for the BlackBerry PlayBook. This was followed by support for the Barnes and Noble Nook last December, and Android devices this past summer. Now version 4.0 adds in full support for BlackBerry10, and can even be downloaded from AppWorld today for those with the BlackBerry DevAlpha. Support has also been added for tablets and computers running Windows 8, however actual availability of the game in the Windows Store is dependent upon Microsoft’s whims.
About Xploding Boxes
Xploding Boxes is a strategy game for BlackBerry, Android, Nook, and Windows where the goal of the game is to start a chain reaction that will explode all of the boxes on the screen. Each level gives you a different number of touches, and requires a different strategy to solve.
The game itself, and the first 25 levels are available for free, while an in-app purchase can be used to access the rest of the levels for just $2.99 while maintaining your progress from the free levels.

Sky Parlor Studios, is announcing their newest game series, Together. The Together series will feature asynchronous gameplay of popular puzzle games and Sky Parlor originals. The studio will be debuting this new series with their take on the popular puzzle game, Sudoku.
Challenging players to use logic and reasoning, traditional Sudoku puzzles contain nine 3x3 grids. The objective is to fill in each row, column, and 3x3 grid using numbers 1 through 9, without duplicates.
Sudoku Together will feature traditional Sudoku gameplay with the added twist of playing against the clock. Players can challenge friends at any level, or be matched with a random opponent at the same skill level. Power-Up's help players complete puzzles faster, and give them an edge over their opponent.

- Turn-based play allows for 15 games to run simultaneously
- Players can challenge friends by logging in with Facebook
