Apple wouldn't let you do it, but WinandMac found an app called iBluetooth for jailbroken iPhones that will allow you to send and receive files over Bluetooth. Just like a real phone!
There's really not much else to it. You can shoot files to and from Bluetooth devices, like other Bluetooth-enabled phones that aren't iPhones. If that's the one feature you've been waiting for, well, get to jailbreaking.

A new survey from The Multimedia Research Company (TMRC) has identified the Apple iPhone as the platform that most impresses the mobile games industry, with 71 per cent of an expert panel labelling it the most successful development platform or operating system.
The panel, made up of 147 senior mobile industry executives from 136 companies in the sector, also believed that the iPhone would strengthen its position in the marketplace - although Google's Android platform is tipped to "make substantial advances in the market place over the next two years."
"We have long observed that the mobile games industry has not been short on individuals prepared to give their views on the wide range of issues challenging this space, either online, in print or at conferences," said TMRC MD Vic Whiting on the results of the inaugural survey.
"Well, the Mobile Games Industry Experts Panel is now able to give these opinions statistical solidity and reliability by measuring the industry sentiment of a large number of experts."

My, my -- now isn't this something? Shortly after narrowly avoiding a dastardly collision with bankruptcy, Sirius XM is looking to connect itself with profitable enterprises in an attempt to build market share and regain interest from budget-conscience consumers. Just weeks after hearing that the sat radio company could be preparing a few Sirius / DirecTV bundles, CFO David Frear has now confirmed on a recent earnings call that the outfit is indeed developing an iPhone / iPod touch app. It's interesting to think that a satellite radio firm could be warming to delivering more content via the internet, but it's the apparent diversion from being a standalone offering that has us even more intrigued. It should be interesting to see how the pricing model works with this forthcoming app -- will users be able to get an iPhone subscription only? Will it be tossed in gratis with traditional subscriptions? So many questions, not enough patience.

The AppStore has been around a good while now. Cydia now has a retail aspect, which is being built out even more as you read this. And adding to the mix, Rock Your Phone, which we've been beta testing a while, is now live.
Rock Your Phone actually includes their own jailbreak (or soft unlock, as they've decided to coin it) software as part of the process - you'll notice the procedure is fairly similar to Pwnage Tool, but a little different, and branded Rock Your Phone. Some Dev Team help was actually put into building the application. Mario Ciabarra, creator of Rock Your Phone, says "Without the Dev Team's help, and the entire independent iPhone community - this wouldn't be possible - so we are very grateful for their help and dedication. We are intending to give back to the community as well."

Well, after weeks of speculations and false alarms, it looks like T-Mobile's officially saying the "Cupcake" Android update will hit the G1 sometime next month. That's at least the word according to the T-Mo spokeperson Pocket-lint got hold of -- who went out of his way to disclaim any connection with the upcoming launch of the HTC Magic. In any event, we're hoping all this bake time has fixed some of those bugs and lag problems, but we'll see in a few weeks.

AndroidAndMe is running a bounty program for Android applications. Users can request a specific application and pledge money to be awarded to the developer who delivers the functional app. [Alec Holmes] just fulfilled the first request by creating Torrent Droid. You can use the app to scan media barcodes and then download the related torrent. It uses the phone’s camera to capture the product’s UPC barcode (similar to Compare Everywhere’s price lookup) and then searches major torrent sites like The Pirate Bay to find a copy that can be downloaded. After getting the .torrent file, the app can submit it to uTorrent’s web interface for remote downloading. The app will be released later this month and you can see a screenshot tour of it on Alec’s blog. It’s doubtful that an application like this would ever clear Apple’s App Store approval process.

Nokia today announced the arrival of new Nokia Music Stores, more Comes With Music launches and three new music devices. The Nokia 5730 XpressMusic (as well as 5330 XpressMusic and 5030) bring people's music to life with features that give music lovers around the world easy access to the music they love. By expanding the music range to different price points, introducing more markets with Comes With Music service and the Nokia Music Store as well as making the integration of these elements as easy as possible, on both on the mobile device and the PC, Nokia is changing the way music is enjoyed. The digital music player that rings in your pocket is also the library, the shop and the platform to manage all your music.
"We've sold more than 425 million devices with a digital music player and more than 700 million devices with an FM radio, which clearly shows that the mobile phone is the natural device for listening to the music and carrying it with you," said Jo Harlow, Devices, Nokia. "Combining a connected digital music player like the Nokia 5730 XpressMusic with unlimited access to millions of tracks via Comes With Music means that in addition to their favourite tracks, music lovers can discover, experiment, and keep the new music they find."
Currently available in 15 markets across three continents, the Nokia Music Store lets people browse or purchase music, get recommendations or search for their favorite artists, songs or albums directly from their device. Nokia Music for PC software makes it easy to organise and transfer the music between a PC and compatible device, rip and burn CDs, as well as discover, stream and download directly from the Nokia Music Store. Today, Mexico was the latest country to launch a Nokia Music Store with additional markets such as Portugal, Norway and South Africa joining the fold in the coming months.
Comes With Music gives people unlimited music downloads from the Nokia Music Store for a year or 18 months. People can choose from millions of tracks to download and keep them, even once the year is over. Currently available in the United Kingdom and Singapore, Comes With Music will launch in Australia later this month. Additional launches, including Italy, Sweden and Mexico, are planned for the coming several months. The newest additions to the Nokia XpressMusic range - the Nokia 5730 XpressMusic and Nokia 5330 XpressMusic - will be offered as Comes With Music compatible devices in selected markets.
The Nokia 5730 XpressMusic is Nokia's first music-optimized device to offer a full QWERTY keyboard - ideal for quick messaging. The heart of this music device is the Homescreen for XpressMusic, providing access and dynamic information on music, people, games, email and calendar. The Homescreen features an improved contacts bar with up to 20 friends and family members and provides direct access to music, N-Gage and other applications, like Facebook, Photos, Ovi Contacts, Maps, messaging and more. With Ovi Contacts, people see which friends are online, chat and even view what music they are listening to. The Music shortcut offers a quick access to the music stored on the device as well as to the Nokia Music Store where they can find for information on artists, music and over-the-air downloads, directly on the device.
With the dedicated gaming keys the Nokia 5730 XpressMusic is a true N-Gage gadget. Direct access to the N-Gage Arena community and the preloaded N-Gage games invite to connect and compete and check high scores with online friends. Nokia also launched the Nokia Mobile Holder CR-110 to keep the Nokia 5730 XpressMusic firmly in place.
The Nokia 5730 XpressMusic is expected to begin shipping in the third quarter of 2009 for an estimated retail price of 280 EUR before subsidies and taxes.

Developers can finally start cashing in on those farting and shopping apps.
Until now, all apps present on the 'store' - accessible only via the T-Mobile G1 so far - have been free.
From tomorrow developers will be able to start charging whatever they like. Users can pay via Google Checkout.
In previous reports Google has suggested that developers in Germany, Austria, Netherlands, France and Spain will be able to offer paid applications within the next few weeks.
At a London workshop held earlier today, T-Mobile and developers emphasised the differences between Android and iPhone - stressing the lack of editorial controls on developers, the ability to charge any cost, openness of the code and the speedy upoading process.
Other factoids divulged include:
* G1 sales are running at 70 per cent of average iPhone sales.
* 15 per cent of G1 users play with their device in the toilet.
* 20 per cent of new T-Mobile subs choose the G1.
* The devices mostly commonly migrated from are the N85 and Vario.
* G1 users spend five times more on data than the average T-Mobile sub

Apple's just reached a whole new level of stupidity in App Store approval shenanigans: the Tweetie 1.3 update was just rejected for displaying "offensive language" in its Twitter trend search view. Right, not for offensive language in the app itself, but for offensive language on Twitter -- an insanely strict new standard that could conceivably be used to reject each and every iPhone Twitter client out there. (And if you haven't noticed, there are quite a few iPhone Twitter clients.) Hell, Apple might as well reject the next versions of Safari and Mail, since they can display dirty words too -- and let's not forget the awful things people are doing with Notes and the camera. Better lock it down.
Look, Apple -- this is a nadir. Rejecting a Twitter client for Twitter's content is simply indefensible, and it's a sign that the App Store approval "process" is broken beyond repair. It's time to drop the seemingly-random black-box approach -- which has earned nothing but well-deserved scorn -- open up, establish consistent, easy-to-understand rules with a well-defined appeals process, and actually work with innovative developers like Tweetie's Loren Brichter to push your platform forward in the face of newly-stiff competition. The massive popularity of the iPhone and the App Store may prevent a mass exodus, but the best devs are going to leave if they feel jerked around, and we doubt a store full of fart apps and misogynistic jiggle apps is really the vision you had for your platform. Think about it.

he iPhone Dev Team hackers have been teasing their redsn0w iPod touch jailbreak for what seems like forever now, but those you tired of waiting might want to check out the just-released NitroKey Slipstream. The $15 software does its thing on the 2.2.1 firmware, and automatically installs Cydia for all that jailbroken app action you crave -- including the new paid apps store. Windows-only for now, but there's apparently a Mac version in the works -- hopefully we'll see the free redsn0w take the lead back on that front. Report back if you take the plunge, would you?

Bam, another Apple rumor vindicated. Apple just doubled the capacity of its iPod shuffle to 4GB while ditching the control wheel entirely. The new design keeps the clip and adds VoiceOver -- a new feature that gets around the lack of display by telling you which song is playing and who performs it at the touch of a button on the earbud cable. It'll also call out your playlists and let you navigate to others. Available in black or silver for $80 and your claim to what Apple calls the "world's smallest music player." Check the video tutorial after the break.
Update: VoiceOver in English, Czech, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish.

Android Dev Phone 1 owners are pretty much expected to handle their own business when it comes to firmware updates, but those of you who like to kick it official take note: El Goog's just released Android 1.1 for its totally unlocked version of the G1. Most of the fixes are to do with POP3 accounts, although paid apps are now supported with a catch: you won't be able to access any paid apps that use Android's hilariously weak-ass copy protection features, because the ADP1 comes rooted out of the box and thus able to read / write the folder protected apps are stored in. So yeah, ADP1 owners now have access to paid apps that don't have copy protection -- we're guessing that's not a large number. Honestly, we don't see the point of this: nothing's ever going to stop piracy, and pissing off the people willing to buy $400 unlocked phones that don't come with support doesn't seem like the best way to build brand loyalty. Maybe you want to reconsider, guys?
