The last vestiges of our dwindling global economic workforce will cease if rumors of Peggle coming to iPhone are true. According to Wired, PopCap Games announced Peggle's next mobile destination via its "official" Twitter feed. The company wouldn't comment further, and actually went so far as to remove the tweet; however, the internet doesn't forget, as evidenced by the image we captured above.
Peggle was actually one of our Top 10 games back in 2007. Hopefully, the company removed the tweet not because it was incorrect, but because it intends to keep the secret until iPhone Peggle receives FDA approval. The Peggle must flow.
Update: A PopCap representative confirmed to Joystiq that Peggle on iPhone is "launching in early March."

t's anybody's guess when we're going to get this stuff in the G1, so we may as well torture ourselves in the meanwhile with some visuals, right? IntoMobile has posted a handful of Cupcake screen grabs, showing scintillating features like a task manager (minus the "manager" part since you can only see what's running, not kill processes), a work-in-progress world clock, new controls for transition effects and visuals, and -- of course -- the all-important virtual keyboard. It's good stuff all around, and realistically, it's stuff that should've found its way into the shipping build.
On a related note, we got an official statement from T-Mobile regarding Cupcake's release on the G1 today, and it's every bit as vague and unhelpful as we'd expect it to be: "According to the Android team, 'Cupcake,' which is the code name for an Android software build, is still a work in progress that is considered to be a development branch and not for general availability. We will update you as T-Mobile G1 software updates are made available to T-Mobile customers." In other words, this could be out tomorrow, next week, next month, or next year, but considering the totally varied completeness of different Cupcake features, we wouldn't be surprised to see it doled out in bite-sized increments over multiple over-the-air updates.

Sure, iPhone chargers are a dime a dozen, and most of them are a snore-fest, we know. Mili's just-rolled-out Phonesuit Power Pack is eye-catching enough to bring to your attention though. The spiffy looking charger is packing an 1,800 mAh battery which supposedly gives up to 350 hours of standby time, 6 hours of talk / browsing (3G), 12 hours of EDGE use. The only mildly interesting feature of the device is the mini USB port which allows you to charge a device other than your iPhone. This baby comes in 8 designs, and it's going to run you about $80 if you want to nab one.

It's been a few years and a couple of different nano generations since the first lawsuits started flying, but it looks like those that found themselves with the scratch magnet known as the first-gen iPod nano may soon be able to get a bit of payback for their troubles, as Apple has reached a $22.5 million settlement following a class-action lawsuit. Under the settlement, Apple would pay out $25 to each person that bought a first-gen nano that didn't include a slip case, and $15 to those that bought one after Apple started including free slip cases, not to mention the usual attorney fees and other litigation expenses. All of that is still subject to a judge's approval at a court hearing on April 28th, however, and it could possibly be further delayed by appeals, but those looking to get in on the action (and willing to wait) can find all the necessary details at the link below.

t launch, T-Mobile took the cautious route and launched its G1 in 3G markets alone (and when we say "cautious route" we mean "they didn't have enough to go around"). Times, though, they are a changin' -- and as of tomorrow, anyone within driving, walking, or bicycling range of a T-Mobile USA store or "eligible" partner store will be able to pick up their own little slice of Google history. Of course, EDGE customers could've always ordered one online, but it's nice to be able to see the colors in person -- because, you know, the "bronze" might not be exactly what you expected.

"Microsoft yesterday unveiled its MSN Mobile Music service - and a surprise return to digital rights management (DRM). While companies such as Apple and Amazon have finally moved to music download services free of copy protection, MSN Mobile locks tracks to the mobile handset they are downloaded to."
What in the world are they smoking over there in the UK? You can't transfer songs between your phone and PC, the price is nearly double that of DRM free music from iTunes, and the music is not transferable to a new phone. I kid you not! You have to read the Q&A between PC Pro Magazine and Hugh Griffiths, the head of Mobile Music. This is not a question of will this service survive, but in how many months will it totally implode unless someone gets bopped with a clue-stick.
How many of our UK friends are chomping at the bit to purchase songs for £1.50. For those of us in the US, that is $2.21 at today's exchange rate.

We already knew Huawei's gearing up to enter the Android smartphone market -- at least in Australia -- and now the company has confirmed plans to show its first device at February's Mobile World Congress. Unfortunately we don't know much else at the moment, but we expect to shed some more light on this next month. Additionally, the company says it'll be showing the world's smallest modem, the world's first commercial HSPA+ Stick, and a new digital photo display, among other surprises. We're hoping those known unknowns turn out to be more Android phones, but something tells us they wouldn't be so coy with that.

Summing up Apple's Q1 conference call.
iPhone
The iPhone pretty much destroyed the year goal of 10 million units with 13.7 million iPhones sold thanks to 4.3 million being sold during the quarter. Furthermore, the AppStore did extremely well reaching 15,000 apps and 500,000,000 downloads (which Apple kept 30% of the profit from and declined to announce how much that profit was). The iPhone is now in 70 markets and Apple is continuing to expand their mobile phone influence to other areas. Apple also now has hold of 32% of the smartphone market -- 48% in the U.S.
Aside from the iPhone doing well there doesn't seem to be any indication of a iPhone Nano coming. When questioned on the subject Apple COO Tim Cook said "We'll let somebody else do that. Our objective is not to be the unit-share leader in the cell phone industry, it's to build the world's best phone."

We first wrote about newsgame Airport Security back in 2006, today Ian Bogost reports that an iPhone version of the game is now available in the App Store.
Jetset is still about the absurdity of security at airports, but now it comes with a bunch of extra airplane-safe bells and whistles. In the game you play as a security office making sure that people don't bring a constantly changing list of prohibited items onto a plane.
The items, all inspired by real events in airport security, have to be plucked from the lines of waiting people. The game includes 100 airports, a new ability to strip search and high score tracking. Jetset also automatically selects the airport you're playing in based on where you are actually based using the iPod's location service.
The $5 game lets you collect virtual souvenirs from airports and save them up to redeem Jetset travel trophies. Sounds like a neat addition to an already fun and provocative game.

The Palm Pre won't be out for several months yet, but that isn't stopping a few clever hackers from working out how to boot Android onto the pebble-shaped slider. As it turns out, efforts to port Android to the OMAP 3 processor used in the Pre have been underway since July of last year, so tailoring the build to the Pre shouldn't be too hard -- the difficult parts will be gaining serial access to the bootloader to enable switching between OS's and cramming both systems plus whatever apps and media you might have into the Pre's fixed 8GB of storage, since there's no microSD expansion. All problems we're eager to see tackled just as soon as the Pre launches -- doesn't seem like it can happen soon enough, does it?

Lights Off, the first native iPhone game to ever be released, back in August of 2007, has returned for AppStore. Steven Troughton-Smith, author of Stack for iPhone and the guy who ported DOOM to the iPhone, has now recreated Lights Off from scratch, working with the original artist, and has made it a reality for 2.x iPhones. It will be coming to an AppStore near you very soon.
