redsn0w, the long awaited iPod Touch 2G jailbreak, was announced a couple weeks ago, and released Saturday. The Dev Team folks bill it as "a no frills tethered jailbreak for iPod Touch 2G." The tool is a 16kb download here or here.
They also warn they will be providing no support whatsoever for this program, and will go so far as to ban your user ID from their blog if you post comments asking for support - its a slightly more complex process, and they don't want folks using it who don't know what they're doing. One of the visual effects team members for the Watchman movie just finished their first iPhone game, a title that has gamers selling off bits of Illinois government, Blagojevich-style, in Dope Wars-esque gameplay.
Pa2Play was just submitted to Apple for final approval, in preparation for getting the App Store game out to the public. Described as a "Illinois Governor trading game", Pay2Play give gamers 30 days to pay back the unions, make tons of cash and get out of town, all before getting impeached

The iPhone-Dev Team released new OSX versions of pwnage and quickpwn this morning for firmware 2.2.1 compatibility. For 3G users that want to upgrade to 2.2.1 and unlock you MUST use pwnage tool and disable the baseband update to conserve your 2.28.00 baseband. For first generation users there is no baseband update so just restore in iTunes to 2.2.1 and use the new version of Quickpwn to jailbreak.
A new version of Yellowsn0w has been uploaded for 2.2.1 compatibility as well so after you jailbreak add the source: apt9.yellowsn0w.com in Cydia and install version 0.9.7 and then reboot. This versions DOES NOT WORK WITH THE 2.2.1 BASEBAND so if you want to remain unlocked you MUST update with a custom firmware (via Pwnage Tool) that does not include the baseband update.

Ladies and gentlemen, brace yourself: the iPhone cannot play Xbox 360 games. We know, we were surprised too. Wait, no we weren't. That's why the latest YouTube video making the rounds is so hilariously stupid. YouTube vagabond onlywhenpissed claims a crack he created allows gamers to play Halo 3 on a jail-broken iPhone 3G with the aide of 1337pwn's Friends List application. All it'll take for you to learn this secret is a few measly MS Points.
The scammer attempts to showcase his wizardry by playing the game on his iPhone in the video found after the jump. However, even those who require the assistance of a seeing eye dog can tell it's just a video of Halo 3 footage. The truth is the iPhone just doesn't have the horsepower to run any Xbox 360 software. So, you'd have about as much luck getting this trick to work by placing a Halo 3 disc on your pinkie while spinning it and making aircraft noises. Don't be a sucker. Hold onto your points.

There are new rumors circulating that a new section of the App Store dedicated to top-notch gaming titles may be coming soon.
Sources say that the section will cater to titles in the $20 plus range and that games will have to meet stringent requirements for quality and value as decided by Apple.
You would think that this would help with the issue some developers have with Apple's policies stifling innovation in the App store by promoting cheap apps. But AppleInsider reports that "Oddly, however, the report claims that the initiative will be open only to a restricted number of commercial game publishers, shutting out the thousands of smaller developers responsible for helping the App Store thrive from the onset."

If you have windows and just can't wait for the dev team to release their official version of QuickPwn for 2.2.1 there is another option out. I don't suggest you use this but since I know many of you just can't wait any longer and will anyways we might as well have a post here for the discussion. This is basically poorlad's 2.2 tool with some 2.2.1 bundles crammed in there (without his permission). This "version" of QuickPwn is not endorsed by the Dev Team.
MMi recommends you wait for the Dev Team's official release.

The new iPhone 3G comes with the new 3G connectivity and a new problem namely Batter Drainage. Mophie has taken the challenge to fix it with their new Juice Pack, which is the first Apple certified “Works with iPhone” battery and uses the Apple’s 30-pin dock connector. Now, this might not be very useful for everyone but for a hardcore user like me who’s always surfing and chatting, it’s a must!
The packaging is just wonderful and especially the gift packaging I received. The battery backup comes with a Mini USB 2 cable for charging and a small instruction manual.
Well, I previously owned a Storm Battery Backup and used it all the time with my 3G iPhone but it didn’t provide me enough “Juice” which was a big downside. Another fault was that it used to loosely hang on my phone but the Mophie terminates both of the problems for me!

A fine fellow over at the xda dev forum has posted some screenshots of what is purportedley Windows Mobile 6.5 -- and well... they look plausibly real. They're pretty Zune-ish (though maybe slightly less so than the last ones we saw), and also pretty good looking. There's still no info on when we can expect 6.5, though rumors have it that it'll be at MWC. Check some more photos (including the honeycomb app launcher and IE mobile) after the break. Microsoft has made some stumbles in the mobile world, but a strategy shift made more than a year ago will soon pay dividends, the company's top Windows Mobile executive said in an interview with CNET News. Andy Lees, the executive brought over from the server unit a year ago, said that Microsoft's efforts to make sure that its mobile software could run on a wide range of phones resulted in an operating system that failed to take advantage of advances in hardware. "We aimed to go for a lower common denominator," Lees said. Microsoft was also limited by the origins of Windows Mobile, which was developed to power handheld computers that neither connected to a network nor handled voice. "We started out when we were in PDAs (personal digital assistants) and then a phone got strapped to the back of the PDA," Lees said. The company also failed to recognize that phones--even those that were used for business--were still as much personal as they were professional

Do you find the Nokia 5800's built-in Notification Light feature for missed messages/calls actually quite hard to notice? Then LightSignalPlus from PhonePhreak Software is just what you need: it makes ALL THREE KEYS flash every 2 seconds whenever there has been an SMS or a call. LightSignalPlus has been designed to have the keys blink only when it makes sense. I.e. when a message arrives while you are currently in an app, LightSignalPlus assumes that you have taken notice, so the keys will not blink. LightSignalPlus activates the blinking only when there are no app windows open.
