It is very easy to miss the initial sound of an incoming message or a phone call especially if the smartphone was in another room at this moment, in a leather wallet or in your jacket when you're in a car or at the street. If you don't want to check the display constantly to ensure that you haven't missed an important phone call or a message you might be waiting for then you need to try Best Reminder from Smartphoneware. It provides repeating alarms, visual notification and/or device vibrating to draw your attention to received but unnoticed messages and missed calls. This version is optimized for S60 5th Edition devices, including the 5800 XpressMusic and the N97.

MuscleNerd of iphone-dev has been updating us via his twitter account with some info about firmware 2.2.1 which was released yesterday.
2.2.1 does not break the dev team's methods of jailbreak.
2.2.1 breaks the 3g software unlock
2.2.1 does not break iPhone 2G unlock since the 2G baseband is not updated.
(it hasn't been updated for 8 months)
Don't Upgrade yet though . . .
For anyone that wants/needs to unlock the iPhone 3g do not update to 2.2.1 until the dev team releases a method (i.e. PwnageTool) for a 2.2.1 jailbreak/upgrade. If you upgrade to 2.2.1 your baseband will be upgraded and it is unclear if/when you will be able to unlock.

Apple launched the original iPhone 2 years back in June and then the iPhone 3G in July last year. As this is the third year in series, we all expect a newer version of this revolutionary device. What's better is that as per some solid proofs found by MacRumors, it seems that they have already been working on it!
The latest 2.2.1 firmware has an iPhone product model 2,1 hidden deep inside the metadata. Apple uses these numbers to differentiate different hardware versions. So, this hints at a new version of the iPhone as the model of current 3G version is just 1,2. This new model number can be located in USBDeviceConfiguration.plist of a decrypted firmware.

Adorably-mascotted Firefox Mobile 'Fennec' is on its way to an early February release for the Windows Mobile-powered HTC Touch Pro, according to a post on the project's developer wiki.
The quote isn't gospel, but it's a pretty solid indicator:
We are targeting a Milestone release for the first week of February, targeting the HTC Touch Pro
The Touch Pro is an interesting choice for the first release; the decision, I'd wager, stemmed from the ease of porting—resizing interface elements and managing the GUI is much easier when you got the Pro's 480x640 display to work with, and dealing with performance issues, which were evident in the early Nokia N810 build as well as the emulator, wouldn't be so hard on this relatively beefy piece of hardware. Not to mention the fact that the QWERTY keyboard simplifies finger-friendly text input.
Whatever the reasoning, the release of a Windows Mobile version of Fennec represents significant progress toward a wide Windows Mobile release. Plus, I don't see why this build wouldn't at least sort of work on other VGA WinMo phones like the functionally identical Touch Diamond.

Maybe Apple's iPhone really is "the future of gameplay." This year's Independent Games Festival Mobile finalists are almost entirely comprised of titles for iPhone and iPod Touch platforms, with just one Nintendo DS entry appearing.
Two iPhone titles lead the pack of nominations, with tower defense game Fieldrunners and cubic puzzler Edge up for three awards. Of the 14 titles competing in the IGF Mobile finalists, 11 are iPhone and iPod Touch games. On the Nintendo DS side, And-or's Wardive also scored triple the award noms, competing for Best Game, Innovation in Mobile Game Design and Technical Achievement.
The winners will be announced at the Game Developers Conference Mobile conference on March 24th, then be "additionally honored" during the main Independent Games Festival Awards on March 25th. For the full list of potential winners, read on

Apple had already solidly cemented its reputation as the confused, identity crisis-stricken, moral dilemma-having lord ruler of the App Store with its recent approval of a number of browsers that would seemingly violate its "duplication of functionality" policy, but now it's doing some serious soul-searching with this latest move. Remember Podcaster? The on-the-go podcast downloader predated Apple's own mobile download capability by months -- but Cupertino struck the thing down for encroaching on iTunes' territory, seemingly dooming it to a life of ad hoc installs and jailbreaks. It's just been given a fresh lease on life, though, emerging as "RSS Player" and killing off Podcaster's built-in directory of casts; Apple's suddenly cool with the revised app, giving it two thumbs-up on the way to the App Store, but it's not clear if the directory functionality was the problem, there's a policy change in play here, or the name change simply fooled the App Store admins into giving the green light. At any rate, in case you're wondering why you'd shell out $1.99 for the pleasure of this "duplication of functionality," RSS Player will let you blow by iTunes' 10MB limit -- and, of course, you can download any feed you like. Thanks, Apple.

Opening the weather application every time to check the current weather has always been a big pain. I've always wanted something to display live weather on my home screen, though the Weather Widget did it, it occupied a lot of space on the home screen. But now, there's a utility on Cydia which lets your weather icon show the current weather. Though this can be battery consuming it's worth a try.
First of all, WinterBoard (which you can get from Cydia) is a must to install this tweak. Then, you can simply download this little hack named WeatherIcon from Cydia (in the MMi source) and activate it in the WinterBoard application (make sure you move it above any theme you have enabled on the phone so that it replaces the theme's weather icon).

The other day a new entertaining game called osu! went live on Cydia via the MMi repo. Reminiscent of Tap Tap Revenge osu! is a rhythm and music based game where you tap and slide on the correct beat. What osu! does differently is gameplay is controlled by user made maps of various songs which you download via your iPhone to play.
MMi: What future features are you thinking of adding?
nuudles: Probably at the least, general storyboard support since that infrastructure is kind of already there, but that's looking optimistically. Online scoreboards are possible, but not being focused on. Multiplayer... may be stretching a bit, but who knows? Official skin support is probable, meaning dropping in skins from the PC version

ZumoDrive takes things a step further than typical cloud storage with their iPhone application. Since I have already gone through ZumoDrive in detail tonight I'll just throw out the highlights of their iPhone app.
Features
Music is organized by Artist, Album etc so it is easily browsable. If 16gb isn't enough storage space for you just load your tunes up onto your ZumoDrive and for playing where ever you have your iPhone. Music plays over 3g just fine and you can even have some album art. .mp4 support needs to be added in but should be there soon.
The Pictures feature works much like their snazzy web interface automatically creating nice little slideshows to view from the iPhone.
You can view documents straight from you iPhone. Most all common file extensions work.
The interface is easy to use and self-explanatory (as show in the slideshow above).
What Needs to be Improved
AAC support.
Landscape mode for pictures and documents.
Not much else. The current app

An NES emulator was released on the marketplace a few days ago. There is a video review of it over at androidapps.com. Here is the link.
http://www.androidapps.com/t/nesemu
It is a little slow at the moment, much like the gameboy emulator but it is the first release and more of a proof of concept. The dev promises more in the next release so no haters please!

When we first saw [Jeffrey Nelson]’s G1 based robot we immediately wondered what the transport for the controls was. The G1’s hardware supports USB On-The-Go, but it’s not implemented in Android yet. It turns out he’s actually sending commands by using DTMF tones through the headphone adapter. The audio jack is connected to a DTMF decoder that sends signals to the bot’s Arduino. He wrote client/server code in Java to issue commands to the robot. You can find that code plus a simple schematic on his site. A video of the bot is embedded below.
