The latest Grand Theft Auto clone to hit the iPhone, TAG Games’ Car Jack Streets, may have proved popular with the critics but sadly it seems that the game has also been a hit with pirates too.
Developer TAG Games said on its Twitter feed: “SHOCKING! Looks like sales of Car Jack Streets are less than a THIRD of total users. That is a massive proportion of piracy.”
The extent of piracy on iPhone is currently unclear, despite a couple of high-profile incidents involving a handful of titles.
However, the homebrew scene is certainly rife on iPhone, with all manner of online communities forming in the name of making the most of their ‘jailbroken’ handsets.

Okay, now we get it -- the flood of Android phones we were expecting at MWC and CTIA this year are actually arriving a month or two late. Nice. Anywho, with Samsung just recently dishing out official dirt on its Google-fied I7500 and HTC pushing out its Magic overseas, Acer is making darn sure it's not left out as the bandwagon cruises by. During the firm's Q1 investor's conference today, Gianfranco Lanci (President and CEO) noted that "the entire industry is looking at Android," and that his company "is testing Android on a lot of different solutions." Specifically, he stated that it was "working on an Android solution for the smartphone, but it's too early to say if [Acer] is going to [put the OS] on a netbook in the near future." 'Course, he could be spitting out positive vibes to just make sure we don't forget about 'em, but here's hoping Mr. Lanci takes him own quotes seriously. We'll be watching -- like Rockwell, minus the catchy chorus.

Motorola needed to release an Android set about six months ago, but we know these things take time -- and if it's any consolation, it sounds like the first fruits of the labor could be pretty awesome. Boy Genius Report now claims that the rumored landscape QWERTY slider Calgary will be the first Android-powered Moto device to go commercial, though it's not clear when (or where) it'll hit shelves; given the device's seemingly unusual appearance and the possibility (foolish hope?) that they'll be infusing some customizations into the UI, they might just have an angle to attack offerings from HTC and others. That's not all for the Android department, though -- it looks like there might also be a portrait QWERTY slider in the works for the third quarter codenamed "Ironman," pictured, which will pack 3G, WiFi, and some sort of high-res camera. In other words, a solidly high-end device. Bring it on, guys.
Moving on, it seems the lovely full touchscreen Flash has been canned, along with the Krave's successor, the Inferno -- possibly further confirmation that Moto's throwing virtually all its weight into the Android camp at this point. Finally, rumor has it that a device codenamed "Rolex" is in the labs -- and as you might've guessed, it uses the Aura's astonishingly awesome ultra-high-res circular display. Odds are this is another luxury phone given its aspirational name and the screen being used, but a poor guy can dream.

The ScummVM Team have released a new version of scummvm, heres the details:
It was not that long since our previous release, and now here is a new bugfix release hot off the press!
The list of fixed bugs is quite long, and you could read all of it in the release notes, but here is a summary for those of you who are too lazy to follow the links and eager to play the games better.
SAGA: Inherit the Earth is completable again; AGOS, Groovie, Sword2: fixed many sound-related issues; Parallaction: fixed a bug in one of the puzzles; squashed a number of bugs in the GUI. Also iPhone, Symbian, WinCE ports are much improved and NDS and PS2 ports are back again since 0.11.0.
ScummVM is a program which allows you to run certain classic graphical point-and-click adventure games, provided you already have their data files. The clever part about this: ScummVM just replaces the executables shipped with the games, allowing you to play them on systems for which they were never designed!
Some of the adventures ScummVM supports include Adventure Soft's Simon the Sorcerer 1 and 2; Revolution's Beneath A Steel Sky, Broken Sword 1 and Broken Sword 2; Flight of the Amazon Queen; Wyrmkeep's Inherit the Earth; Coktel Vision's Gobliiins; Westwood Studios' The Legend of Kyrandia and games based on LucasArts' SCUMM (Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion) system such as Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Sam and Max and more. You can find a thorough list with details on which games are supported and how well on the compatibility page. ScummVM is continually improving, so check back often.

A video posted over at Pocketgamer seems to show off a very early build of Worms for the iPhone. The video is pretty brief, though it still manages to impress us through some slick visuals and competent controls. Whether or not this is real, know that we want it to be real.
We've put in word to both Team17 and EA's mobile division (which was rumored to have acquired the license). EA got back to us to say that the company "does not comment on rumor and speculation." While we wait on Team17, you can head past the break and watch poor Harlequin catch a rocket to the face.

Playora brings Spot the Difference to iPhone

The ‘Spot the Difference’ genre has hit the iPhone as of today following the release of Dreams by Matt Spall’s newly formed mobile games publisher Playora.
The game has already gained a strong following on DifferenceGames.com where it has been either played online or downloaded a total of 12m times.
The visually striking game is played much like the traditional activity book-style spot the difference games – two variants of the same picture are shown, and using the iPhone’s zooming and panning controls, users must pick the inconsistencies.
The game selects six differences from a possible pool of 15 on each play, adding a little longevity to the title.
“Dreams is a stunningly beautiful game and we’re really pleased to be able to extend the property outside of its online and download origins on DifferenceGames.com,” Playora GM Matt Spall stated.
Dreams is Playora’s second iPhone release, following in the footsteps of Balloon Headed Boy earlier this month.

New market research data from analyst Flurry claims that Apple’s iPhone accounted for 56 per cent of mobile app usage in April; add to that the 28 per cent share won by the iPod Touch and that gives Apple an 84 per cent slice of the market.
Venturebeat reports that Google Android, in contrast, secured 16 per cent of the market. However, this is hugely up on the seven per cent it claimed in March, and is all the more impressive when it is considered that right now there is only one Android phone on the market – the T-Mobile G1.
Flurry adds that 53 per cent of iPhone owners will use their apps on a wi-fi network, with 37 per cent doing so on a private connection and 16 per cent on a public connection. App usage using mobile network connections account for 35 per cent of total use.
Typically, users are likely to keep on accessing apps for around three months, with peak usage occurring between the sixth and eighth week.

Back in November we reported about Apple shutting down discussion on how to reverse engineer iTunes to make syncing of iPhones and iPods work with applications other than iTunes along with unsupported operating systems like Linux. Back then we thought the whole thing was a bit ridiculous. IF you want to sync on Linux or without iTunes you should be able to right?
At the time Apple claimed that the discussions were in violation of the DMCA Act because this reverse engineering could possibly lead to copyright violations.
Some months later the folks behind the site that Apple insisted discussions be removed from, Bluwiki.com, have filed a lawsuit against Apple in order to establish their right to restore the previously removed discussions. They claim that reverse-engineering to create a new product is perfectly acceptable under the DMCA Act and that the discussions were only about reverse engineering iTunes in order to use Apple devices with other software and iTunes on linux which in no way violate any of the DMCA's anti-circumvention provisions or Apple's

You might think that everything that could possibly be said or done with USB missile launchers had already been said and done, but you'd be wrong -- dead wrong. The next (final?) frontier for these staples of modern cube warfare has arrived in the form of an iPhone app, iLauncher, that'll allow you to control your PC-connected arsenal from afar over WiFi. It's the coolest use of a phone as a deadly weapon since James Bond ghost rode a Bimmer in Tomorrow Never Dies using some crazy one-off Ericsson, but air / ground supremacy doesn't come cheap: expect to spend $2.99 to nab this off the App Store.

It's crazy, we know. Just hours after hearing shockingly believable whispers that Apple's white-hot iPhone 3G could be sashaying over to Verizon Wireless, in flies a Wall Street Journal report asserting that the suits in Redmond are (also?) in talks with America's largest carrier. 'Course, we've heard rumors that Microsoft was banging out a smartphone behind closed doors for centuries now, but much to our chagrin, there's no mention of "Zune" in "Project Pink." Instead, we're told that said handset in a touchscreen-based multimedia phone that will aim to extend the Windows Mobile OS while "adding new software capabilities." Not surprisingly, we're told that Windows Marketplace would be front and center on the phone, and potentially most interesting is this tidbit: "a third-party is expected to make the device." Hey HTC -- seen any strange calls originating from the 425?

While mere mortals will most likely have to wait until May to get at Cupcake (probably even stooping so low as to refer to it as Android 1.5, those commoners), the proud, good-looking possessors of Android Dev Phones can get at the update right this instant from HTC's website.
Naturally, we'd assume somebody's going to figure out how to get these images onto rooted G1s before long, but we wouldn't want to over estimate the intelligence or temerity of the proletariat.

We've been down this path countless times, but rumors are once again heating up that Apple and Verizon are actively discussing the possibility of creating an iPhone to work on Big Red's airwaves, according to USA Today's infamous "people familiar with the situation." The juicy gossip claims that discussions kicked off a few months ago when Steve was still running the day-to-day show out in Cupertino, but that the conversation has continued in his absence -- and they'd like to get a product on the shelves next year, likely much to AT&T's chagrin. The article claims that this would be a CDMA product, but given that Verizon boss Ivan Seidenberg himself ruled out a CDMA iPhone and opened the door for an LTE one, we're inclined to believe that the carrier would like to see this product help inaugurate the first slivers of its commercial 4G network in 2010. Since AT&T (along with the rest of the world) is moving toward LTE, an LTE-powered iPhone is a forgone conclusion -- it's really just a question of when Apple will make it happen and whether Verizon will be able to seal the deal.

Guangzhou Skytone Transmission Technologies Company, which we will absolutely never call by its full name again, has just dropped a juicy nugget about its forthcoming netbook. If you'll recall, we recently caught wind of the ARM-based, Android-powered rig (the Alpha 680), which is expected to be a stripped down portable useful for web surfing and light duty Office use. Nixon Wu, Skytone's co-founder, recently confessed that it's aiming to sell the machine for around $250, and if all goes well, it should have prototypes ready by June and final products ready for consumption a month or two after that. Call us crazy (or just greedy, really), but we were totally hoping for this to ring up at $199 or less.

We dig Android set rumors, even more so when they're mumbling about Samsung's first foray into the land of the Android OS. We'd initially heard Samsung's S8000 Cubic might well be the first Android set launched, but the::unwired's reporting that the Samsung I7500 will be the one to watch. While still all rumor and speculation, the I7500 has a mind numbing pile of features, all of which would guarantee us picking this up no matter what OS it's sporting. Starting with quad-band EDGE, dual-band HSDPA, 8GB of internal storage, a 3.2-inch capacitive OLED display (can we get a wahoo?) 5 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, WiFi, and even GPS. The I7500 is scheduled rumored to be exclusive on O2 as early as June this year for €300. That, mes amis, is some seriously tasty rumor magic, here's hoping it pans out.

In the spirit of its titular character, Assassin's Creed: Altair's Chronicles has sneaked onto the App Store and ... well, it hasn't stabbed anyone, but we're sure the (approximately) seven-hour adventure has cut a few purse strings with its $9.99 price tag.
It's at the upper end of the price range for iPhone games, and since we haven't laid our mitts on it, we can't give you any guidance as to whether or not it's worth it. If you give it a whirl, let us know what you think in the comments below.

Apple has apologised for a "deeply offensive" iPhone application called Baby Shaker, which made a game of quieting crying babies by shaking them.
It removed the $0.99 (£0.59) game from its iTunes Store on Wednesday, two days after it went on sale.
It sparked outrage from children's groups and brain injury foundations.
The aim of the game was to quieten babies by shaking the iPhone until a pair of thick red Xs appeared over each eye of a baby drawn in black and white.
"This application was deeply offensive and should not have been approved for distribution on the App Store," Apple said in a statement.
"We sincerely apologise for this mistake and thank our customers for bringing this to our attention."
But an Apple spokeswoman would not comment on why the program - developed by a company called Sikalosoft - was approved for sale in the first place, nor how many people had downloaded it.
The iTunes description included the line: "See how long you can endure his or her adorable cries before you just have to find a way to quiet the baby down!"
It also included a disclaimer: "Never shake a baby."
Officials from Sikalosoft were not available for comment.
US-based organisations which seek to prevent brain injuries from Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS) - including the National Centre on Shaken Baby Syndrome and the Sarah Jane Brain Foundation - condemned Apple for approving the game's sale.
Jetta Bernier, executive director of Massachusetts Citizens for Children, said: "I am disheartened that with this new application Apple is encouraging frustrated adults to shake infants, not only to end their crying, but to end their lives.
"There are many effective infant soothing strategies that adults can use to calm their fussy, crying babies. Shaking is not one of them," the Daily Telegraph reported her as saying.
The outrage over Baby Shaker came as Apple celebrated the one billionth download from its App Store, which launched nine months ago.
"The speed with which the App Store has ramped up is impressive and has really set the bar high for everyone else," analyst Van Baker of Gartner told the BBC.
"Everyone from Nokia to Palm and from RIM (BlackBerry) to Google with Android are trying to follow suit. The question remains as to how good a job they will do."
There are more than 35,000 applications in the store. Some are free and the most expensive are $9.99 (£6.82).
Apple has highlighted the most popular applications.
At time of writing a game called Catcha Mouse is top of the free download category with more than one million downloads. In the paid section, the top spot is taken by a game called StickWars.
Apple is rewarding the downloader of the one billionth app with a prize that will total over $13,000. The gift will include a 17" MacBook Pro, iPod Touch, a $10,000 iTunes gift certificate and an Apple Time Capsule.

We don't know why T-Mobile isn't trumpeting this, but Deutsche Telekom's Q1 results are out, and the multinational carrier says that over one million G1s have been sold in the US, making up a majority of the 1.5 million 3G devices currently active on T-Mo's network. That's quite an accomplishment in just six months, considering the Android handset launched without nationwide 3G coverage -- it's better now, but we're talking just 21 cities back in October.
Of course, a million's just a drop in the bucked compared to the number of Blackberrys, iPhones, and Windows Mobile devices out there, but we've got enough of a soft spot for Android to overlook it -- now let's get some more devices out the door and really boost that marketshare number, shall we?
