MD.emu for Android v1.4.28 is released. MD.emu is a commercial port of the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive and Master System/Mark III emulator Genesis Plus (GPL) for Android. Sega Genesis/Mega Drive and Master System/Mark III emulator based on Genesis Plus (GPL), designed and tested on the original Droid/Milestone and the Xoom, but works on many devices with similar specs. While not currently as fast as some other Genesis apps available (performance is similar my SNES app depending on the game), MD.emu features very accurate emulation is able to properly display graphics in many games other apps do not. Examples include Panorama Cotton, Star Control, and the VS mode in Sonic 2. My goal for future updates is to eventually provide Sega CD support.
Features:
* Very accurate sound emulation with high quality re-sampling
* SVP chip support for Virtua Racing (needs a fast device)
* 6-button controller and 4-player multitap support
* Backup memory and save state support, auto-save and ten manual slots for save states.
* Supports ROM-based games in .bin, .smd, and .sms formats, optionally in zip files
* Configurable on-screen multi-touch controls in addition to keyboard controls (needs Android 2.1+ for multi-touch, up to 3 touches supported at once)
* Multiplayer-capable Wiimote + Classic Controller and iControlPad support (no need to purchase a separate app, see website for full instructions)
Note:
No ROMs are included with this app and must be supplied by the user. A number of public domain games/demos are available at www.pdroms.de. Transfer games anywhere to your SD card and browse to them from within the app (default SD card directory is /mnt/sdcard). Enable the Direct Texture option if supported by your device to increase performance. On fast devices with 60hz displays like the Xoom, set frameskip to 0.
Visit the homepage at explusalpha.com for more info, ports for other platforms, and my other apps. Please report any crashes or device-specific problems via email (include your device name and OS version) so future updates continue to run on as many devices as possible.
MD.emu for Android v1.4.28 Changelog:
* Gun support (Menacer and Justifier)
* Fixed reset needed for X-Men
* Better CD region detection
* Fixed a crash on some devices if buttons were held down when launching the app
* Improved multi-touch code (works with Xperia Play screen and others)

You know how heroin addicts can go to methadone clinics to stave off cravings? Well, Zynga's new iOS app is kinda like that, but for Reno grannies that blow their Social Security benefits on the one armed bandit.
Zynga Slots is now available for free on the App Store, touting various improvements over real-world slots, such as the fact that losing your life's savings is dramatically less probable. Players can invite their friends in true Zynga fashion, which increases the Jackpot payout of their own machines. The more you play, the higher you level, which in turn unlocks Zynga-themed machines with higher betting limits and rewards.

Over on the 68kmla forums, a website dedicated to old Macs built before 1994, [zydeco] released his Android port of Mini vMac, a Macintosh Plus emulator that puts the power of a Motorola MC68000 processor and System 7 on any computer.
Unlike the original Macintosh, or the subsequent revision that bumped the RAM up to 512 kilobytes, the Mac Plus was actually useful. With the addition of a SCSI port and support for 4 Megabytes of RAM, it’s not only possible to browse the Internet, but also act as a server. There’s a reason [Sprite_tm] chose to rebuild one of these classic, all-in-one machines to act as a home server; they really do epitomize the elegant computers from a more civilized age.
68kmla user [FlyingToaster] even went so far as to put a Mac Plus in his nook touch. With this, he’s got a full-blown installation of System 7 running on an e-ink screen, complete with Lemmings, Gauntlet, and Tetris.
It should be possible to plug this emulated box into the Internet. Unfortunately, experience tells us it won’t be a very pleasant browsing experience outsideHackaday’s retro edition.

Love your iPad, but hate Safari? Mozilla's Alex Limi can relate, it's "a pretty miserable experience," he says. So what's he doing about it? Building a replacement, of course. In a recent presentation showing the fruits of the Mozilla Product Design Strategy team's labors, Limi offered a glimpse at Junior, an iPad browser that hopes to redefine how we view the internet on tablets. The prototype browser eschews the traditional address bar / tab layout in favor of a minimalistic, full screen experience, flanked by only two obvious toggles -- a back button, and a plus symbol that opens a menu containing favorites, recent pages and a URL / search bar. Other common options such as reload, forward and print are hidden away, but accessible. The idea is a simple browsing experience that's more fun, engaging and ergonomic. "It's very simple," Limi summarizes, "it's a browser." He stresses that Junior is still just a prototype, albeit a compelling one. Interested? Check out Limi's full product design presentation at the source link below.

Samsung and Sony among the only smartphone OEMs to achieve growth in Q1.
New IDC data says smartphone shipments increased 41 per cent year-on-year between Q1 2011 and Q1 2012, reaching 144.6 million.
However, most OEMs have failed to benefit from the boom, with Samsung and Sony the only two firms to achieve an increase in demand on Q4.
Nokia has a huge mountain to climb, with sales of its Symbian-powered devices falling 40 per cent. ABI senior analyst Michael Morgan said: "At this point in the year, Nokia will have to grow its Windows Phone business 5,000 per cent in 2012 just to offset its declines in Symbian shipments."
Meanwhile, troubled RIM had a 20 per cent plummet to its shipments on Q4.
North America and Western Europe are on course for a 50 per cent smartphone penetration, and IDC reckons firms should look to build on growing regions like China - world's largest smartphone market - which had an 80 per cent shipment growth.
