Exec says the co-branded device will take aim at Amazon.
In the past, Google has partnered with Samsung and Motorola to release an official co-branded Google device, and Taiwan-based Asustek is the next in line to team with the Android creator for its first tablet.
But with the iPad trouncing all rivals time and time again, can the Google Asus tablet hope to attract Apple's consumers?
Possibly not, as Reuters reports an Asustek executive, that says the forthcoming tablet will focus its attempts to steal the Amazon Kindle Fire's thunder, rather than the iPad's.
Of course, said Fire thunder slowed in Q1, when sales fell to 700,000 from an impressive four million in Q4 – when the device was launched.
The exec, said: "It's targeting Amazon. The Kindle is based on Google's platform but with its own service, so Google has to launch its own service, too."

Eye-watering funds have been generated in five years.
Apple's iPhone was launched on June 29th 2007, and new data from Strategy Analytics says that the family of five – iPhone, 3G, 3GS, 4, 4S – is responsible for revenues of $150 billion.
Meanwhile, more than 250 million iPhones have been shipped in the device's five year existence on the market.
Neil Mawston, executive director at Strategy Analytics, said: "The iPhone portfolio has become a huge generator of cash and profit for Apple and it reaches its fifth birthday at the top of its game.
"However, there are emerging signs that the iPhone’s next five years could get tougher. Some mobile operators are becoming concerned about the high level of subsidies they spend on the iPhone, while Samsung is expanding its popular Galaxy portfolio and providing Apple with more credible competition."
Click here for an iPhone infographic, which observes, the good, the bad and the funny events that have unfolded since the device's release.

Another attempt to erase Google Maps from the memories of its iPhone users.
Apple will move into new territory with its iOS update, iOS 6, ditching long-running partner Google Maps in order for its own Apple Maps app, which will come as standard on the software.
Bloomberg reports that the iPhone version of the app will sport a Yelp-powered check-in feature, allowing users to broadcast their locations to friends, an option Foursquare and Facebook know is hugely popular.
Yelp allows its users to review businesses – trades, eateries, shops etc – while the mobile app already has a check-in function, and an integration to iPhones could potentially bring in millions of new users, threatening location-based rivals in turn.
A Raymond James & Associates analyst claims 40 per cent of Yelp traffic comes from the iOS app, noting how important the move could be.
Apple and Yelp declined to comment.

API will give developers ability to integrate their apps with Snapdragon processing features.
Qualcomm's processors are pretty ubiquitous across the smartphone and tablet space, powering more than 250 devices, including the Nokia Lumia and some BlackBerrys.

Korea's golden goose is on track to drop its 10 millionth Galaxy S III by July, according to Samsung mobile head Shin Jong-kyun. The expectation comes despite limited supply, fueled by a component shortage at the smartphone giant. Regardless of this notable shortcoming, Samsung has wasted no time getting its latest handset to market, and expects to deliver the 4.8-inch Galaxy to some 300 carriers in 147 countries by the end of next month, including all of the major UK carriers, along with AT&T, Sprint,T-Mobile and Verizon in the US. The sky-high figure is merely an estimate, however, so investors may want to stay tuned for the official announcement before uncorking the Dom. Full details are at the source link below.

The wait between iOS 6's unveiling and its planned fall release just got a little bit shorter, as Apple has just pushed out beta 2. If you're in the developer crowd that can try it out, don't expect any revelations: the primarily focus is on the bug fixes that nudge the software closer to a final release. As in past years, multiple additional betas are expected between now and the time the iOS 6 is ready to come to the general public, so there's likely still lots of room left for Apple to polish the release to a shine. Those paid up on their developer accounts can grab the update through the usual means and see just how much luster has been added since WWDC.

Apple quietly switched out a statement that claimed its Mac computers were completely immune to viruses with a less-forward statement: 'It's built to be safe.' The PR shift comes in the aftermath of the Flashback Trojan, which affected hundreds of thousands of Macs back in early April. From the article: 'Apple strives for perfection, but stating something is perfect when it isn't is ultimately bad for PR and company morale. Jobs used his reality distortion field to "rally the troops," so to speak, but "Mountain Lion" will ensure Apple can tout its closed, highly-secure operating system for the foreseeable future in a much more realistic sense. Just because a product isn't impervious to sickness doesn't mean it isn't "insanely great

Easy Phone Sync now free to anyone purchasing a Galaxy.
It might seem like a minor story, but this is a very astute move by Samsung. Why? Because most smartphone users invest so much time and money into their content that even of they fancy changing platforms, it's just too much of a hassle to do so.
Easy Phone Sync lets the new Galaxy owner transfer their music, videos, podcasts, pictures, contacts and text messages from an iPhone to their new Android device in a few clicks.
They can continue to use iTunes software on their PC to manage their music, videos and podcasts and keep their Android device in sync with it.
But there are some obvious gaps. Only DRM free music can be moved, and obviously no iPhone apps can be switched either.
Simon Stanford, VP of telecommunications and networks at Samsung UK and Ireland, said: “We know that traditionally iPhone users have been reluctant to switch to an Android device because they couldn’t use iTunes to manage their content.

Performing better than England's penalty takers.
Orange's official tournament app is currently the chart topping sport app in four European countries on iTunes and Google Play stores, and is in the top five in 70 other territories.
Amazingly, one of these 70 countries is the US - traditionally the burial ground of 'soccer' apps.
The free app includes info and news features plus lots of rich media and social additions. These include a mobile fan kit, including "Photo Fun" which lets users digitally apply face paint to a photo and share it with friends, as well as geolocation functionality and augmented reality maps to find friends at matches.
Fans visiting Poland and Ukraine can also also use the built-in travel information to learn more about the cities they are visiting, information about the stadiums, get travel information, and find the official UEFA Fan Zones.
Premium users also have the option of purchasing video highlights.

We're going to ruin the fun for you, but it's in the service of announcing some other fun. The message above, obscured by reverse alphabetical cipher, reads:White and black spies resurface -(stop)- iPad -(stop)- iPhone -(stop)- iPod Touch -(stop)- online two players -(stop)- this summer -(stop)- this message will self destruct in five seconds -(stop)-
So, to translate that all the way into legible English, WB's Spy vs. Spy remakewill be released this summer on iOS, and will feature online multiplayer for two players. You can look forward to stealing your friends' important secrets, and planting bombs in their wall safes. But, like, in a way that it's totally all right to look forward to.

Lovecraftian horror turned counterculture icon Cthulhu will attempt to reclaim his ability to destroy all of mankind once again this Thursday, June 28, whenCthulhu Saves The World launches on OSX, iOS and Android, according toTouch Arcade.
Each version of the game will run you a smooth $1.99, making these releases $1 cheaper than the PC version on Steam and $1 more expensive than the original XBLIG jam. It's unclear whether the game will be a Universal iOS app, or if iPhone/iPad specific versions will be released at $1.99 each, though the game's classic JRPG-style interfaces should adapt well to touchscreen devices either way.
Launching on additional platforms has worked out well for Zeboyd in the past; it'll be interesting to see if the game's street cred translates to success in the indie-saturated mobile market.
