Rovio has announced Angry Birds Transformers for mobile devices.
While the franchise has recently spawned karting and RPG spin-offs, Angry Birds Transformers is expected but not confirmed to offer more traditional bird-flinging gameplay.
Users will be able to scan characters directly into the game using a new line of collectable Telepods figures from Hasbro.
Over one million Telepods were sold in the first month after they debuted alongside Angry Birds Star Wars 2 last October.
"We're really excited to combine the iconic Transformers universe with the quirky world of Angry Birds" said Rovio chief marketing officer Blanca Juti. "This mash-up is going to appeal to those who grew up with the brand in the 80s, as well as fans of the brand today."
Hasbro chief marketing officer John Frascotti added: "We collaborated with Rovio to create opportunities for kids and families to experience Autobirds and Deceptihogs across multiple formats and entertainment platforms, for a completely immersive branded experience."

Samsung unveiled its latest flagship tablet, the Galaxy Tab S, at an event in New York City tonight, and the new device is thin, lightweight, and sports a killer Super AMOLED display. Samsung boasts that the Galaxy Tab S's 2560x1600 display has 73% better color reproduction than conventional LCD displays and can match colors up to 94% of "nature's true palette" with deeper blacks and a 100,000:1 contrast ratio. The 10.5-inch device weighs just 467g and measures a mere 6.6mm in thickness (and there's an 8.4-inch version, too). Under the hood, the Galaxy Tab S features Android KitKat 4.4, 3GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of storage with a microSD slot that supports up to 128GB. The front camera is 2.1MP and the rear 8MP camera has an LED flash. No word on the exact processor on board just yet, other than it's a quad-core SoC. It's likely a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 though an Exynos variant or perhaps even Tegra 4 wouldn't be beyond the realm of possibility.

The New York Times, in an article about Apple CEO Tim Cook, focuses in large part on the ways in which Cook is not Jobs. He's less volatile, for one thing, whether you think that means he's less passionate or just more circumspect. A small slice:Lower-level employees praise Mr. Cookâs approachability and intellect. But some say he is less hands-on in developing products than his predecessor. They point to the development of the so-called iWatch â the âsmartwatchâ that Apple observers are eagerly awaiting as the next world-beating gadget. Mr. Cook is less involved in the minutiae of product engineering for the watch, and has instead delegated those duties to members of his executive cabinet, including Mr. Ive, according to people involved in the project, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to press. Apple declined to comment on the watch project. ... Mr. Cook has also looked outside of Apple for experienced talent. He has hired executives from multiple industries, including Angela Ahrendts, the former head of Burberry, to oversee the physical and online stores, and Paul Deneve, the former Yves Saint Laurent chief executive, to take on special projects. He also hired Kevin Lynch, the former chief technology officer of Adobe, and Michael OâReilly, former medical officer of the Masimo Corporation, which makes health monitoring devices. Not to mention the music men of Beats.

Mozilla has announced that it will start selling the super-cheap smartphone within the next few months.
The phone will run Mozillaâs HTML5 web-based Firefox operating system and will be powered by chips from Chinese company Spreadtrum.
Launching in India and Indonesia, the device will cost just $25 (ÂŁ15).
Mozilla has already partnered with mobile manufacturers ZTE and Alcatel to sell its Firefox-powered phones in Europe and other parts on the world. It has now partnered with two Indian firms, Intex and Spice, to develop the new device.
Gong Li, Mozilla COO, told WSJ that the firm is expecting Firefox-powered smartphone shipments to exceed 10 million units in the next 12 months.
The OS currently runs on more than a million smartphones.
The firm unveiled its plans for a cheap smartphone at this yearâs Mobile World Congress, where it also detailed host of device and partnerships.

A developer has demonstrated an unannounced feature in Appleâs iOS 8 software: split-screen multitasking.
Steve Troughton Smith published a video (see below) showing the mode in a developer iOS 8 simulator, with the iOS Safari app resized to fill different areas of the screen.
The feature isnât currently announced for iOS 8, which is set for public release in autumn.
If included with iOS 8, the multitasking could combat one of the features of Microsoftâs Windows 8 tablet operating system, which allows users to multitask on their tablet by snapping different applications to the edge of the screen.
The discovery joins rumours that Apple will launch a next-generation iPad Air model later this year.
Korean news site ETNews reported that iPad Air 2 components are to enter production this month, according to supply chain sources.
Among the rumoured upgrades to the tablet is the next iteration of Appleâs A-series processors â the A8 â and an eight-megapixel camera.
The Air 2âs 9.7-inch Retina display is expected to retain the original Airâs form factor and 2048x1536 resolution.

It's been a long time coming, but Square Enix finally unveiled a renewed version of Final Fantasy 7 ... 's motorcycle mini-game from the RPG's Gold Saucer levels. Final Fantasy 7 G-Bike is a free, mobile "action chaser" inspired by the chase scene from the 1997 PSOne game, in which the hero Cloud Strife slashes at enemies with his enormous sword while ripping down a highway on his motorcycle. The obstacle-avoiding, sort-of-endless-runner will include undisclosed in-app purchases, though it does feature classic monsters, familiar techniques from Cloud's arsenal, boss battles and a weapon customization system.
Those hoping for a full mobile version of the cherished RPG, outside of its availability as a PSOne Classic on Vita, may recall producer Takashi Tokita's assertion in October that the game is years away. Final Fantasy 7 was re-released for PC in August 2012, followed by Steam in July 2013. Final Fantasy 7 G-Bike is in development for iOS and Android.

Apple made a hullabaloo over iOS 8's user-accessible privacy controls during itsWWDC keynote, but it now appears that some of the biggest safeguards are under the hood. Security guru Frederic Jacobs has noticed that iOS 8 uses random network identifiers when scanning for WiFi access, and will only reveal a device's true ID when it connects. In other words, hotspot operators can't get your position simply because you're walking by with an iPhone in hand -- you have to sign in first.

With revamped policies in the iOS 8 App Store, Candy Crush and other apps that reward you for social sharing could soon be booted. Apps that provide users incentives for sharing on social networks aren't the only ones to violate Apple's latest terms and conditions for developers; those that provide in-game credit for watching videos are also under fire, along with apps that promote other apps.

Apple has said on more than one occasion that it pays its fair share of taxes, but it appears that the European Commission isn't so sure. Today, the regulator confirmed it's launched an investigation into whether the company is enjoying better tax deals than are warranted under EU law. It all centers around Apple's Irish subsidiaries, Apple Sales International and Apple Operations Europe, which may have benefited from pricing arrangements that allowed it to minimize the overall amount of tax it paid. At 12.5 percent, Ireland's business tax rate is lower than most EU member states, but Apple has previously been accused of securing rates as low as 2 percent.

The title of [Nuclearrambo's] post says it all, âAndroid based wireless ECG monitoring(Temperature sensor and glucometer included).â Wow! What a project!
The project is built around the HC-06 bluetooth module and the Stellaris LaunchPad from TI, an inexpensive ARM developer kit. Building an ECG is a great way to learn about instrumentation amplifiers, a type of differential amplifier used for its extremely high common mode rejection ratio (CMRR). Please be sure to keep in mind that there are a myriad of safety issues and regulation concerns for medical device, and there is no doubt that an ECG is considered a medical device. Sadly, [Nuclearrambo's] post does not include all of the code and design files you need to build the system, which is understandable considering this is a medical device. That being said, he provides a lot of information about building high-quality ECG instrumentation and the web interface.
It would be great if [Nuclearrambo] could post the Android application code and Stellaris LaunchPad code. Even with these omissions, this post is still worth reading. Designing medical devices requires a lot of know-how, but who knows, maybe your next project can save your life!

Last year, [Ben] found a good deal on iPad 3 LCD screens. He couldnât resist buying a couple to play around with. It didnât take him long to figure out that itâs actually quite simple to use these LCD screens with any computer. This is because the LCD panels have built-in Apple Display port interfaces. This means that you can add your own Display Port connector to the end of the LCDâs ribbon connector and just plug it into a computer. Youâll also need to hook up a back light driver, which [Ben] was able to find pre-made for around $35.
The hack doesnât stop there, though. [Ben] wanted to have a nice, finished product. He laser cut an acrylic bezel for the LCD screen that was a perfect fit. He then milled out a space for the LCD to fit into. The acrylic was thick enough to accommodate the screen and all of the cables. To cover up the back, [Ben] chose to use the side panel of a PowerMac G5 computer case. He chose this mainly for aesthetics. He just couldnât resist the nice brushed aluminum look with the giant Apple logo. It would be a perfect match to his Macbook.
Once the LCD panel was looking nice, [Ben] still needed a way to securely fasten it in the right place. He knew heâd want it next to his Macbook, so why not attach it directly to the Macbook? [Ben] got to work with his 3D printer and printed up some small plastic clips. The clips are glued to the iPad screenâs acrylic bezel and can be easily clipped on and off of the Macbook screen in seconds. This way his laptop is still portable, but he has the extra screen real estate when he needs it. [Ben] also printed up a plastic clip that turns the iPadâs USB power connector and the Display Port connector into one single connector. While this is obviously not required, it does effectively turn two separate plugs into one and makes the whole project that much more slick.

If you've ever taken the bus or subway home after drinking too much at a party, you know how tough it can be to get off at the right stop -- you may fall asleep well before then. That shouldn't be an issue if you're using a recent Android phone, however. Android Police has noticed that the latest version of Google Now on Android lets you set an alarm that wakes you up shortly before a favorite destination comes up; you can safely catch some shut-eye knowing that you'll still be home on time. There are third-party apps that offer similar reminders, but it's good to have a built-in safety net when you're not entirely sober.

Appleâs iWatch will start production this month in time for a September release, an analyst has claimed.
Citing discussions he had with an anonymous âtechnology supply chain companyâ source (via UberGizmo), Brian White of Cantor Fitzgerald said that production of initial components for the long-rumoured wearable device will begin later in June, before accelerating to meet the Q4 release date.
White described the iWatch as a âcompanion deviceâ, stating that the smartwatch would require a connection to an iPhone to function.
He added that the release of the next generation of the iPhone â the iPhone 6 â would accompany the iWatchâs announcement.

Apple has introduced support for headphones that connect via the Lightning port.
9to5Mac spotted that the firm has added a new specification in its Made-For-iPhone/iPad/iPod (MFi) programme which will allow vendors to manufacture headphones that connect to iOS devices using the devicesâ Lightning connector â rather than the traditional 3.5mm audio jack.
The site added that it was likely the new audio technology would be introduced in a future software update.
The benefit of connecting via Lightning is that headphones could be capable of receiving higher quality audio â up to lossless stereo 48kHz digital audio.
The headphones would also support a microphone for audio input, as well as other new app-specific features.
Apple will reportedly allow two configurations for the headphones: âStandard Lightning Headphonesâ, which will require the use of a digital-to-analog converter supported by the Lightning Headphone Module, and âAdvanced Lightning Headphonesâ, which will allow features such as active noise cancellation.
The move could mean big implications for vendors and users â Forbes suggests that the move to the Lightning port could mean a total abandonment of the 3.5mm audio jack, coaxing users into an Apple/Beats hardware ecosystem in order to access advanced features only available via the Lightning port.
The revelations about possible future iOS device audio technology come only a week after Apple purchased Beats for $3 billion.
Beats just released its first post-Apple acquisition advert, which focuses on the use of the firmâs headphones to listen to (and watch) the upcoming Fifa World Cup.
