SMobile Parental Controls provides parents with insight into the mobile activities of their children while also providing protection to their child's phone with Antivirus and Antispam functionality. The program collects data from the child's device and uploads it to a Dashboard that is accessible via the Internet. The parent can also configure e-mail alerts, where messages containing customized keywords, such as drugs, sex, alcohol, etc., or messages that originate from or are destined to specific addressees can be automatically e-mailed to the parent. The Parental Control Dashboard allows parents to view:
* The contents of e-mail messages
* The contents of SMS text messages
* The contents of MMS text messages
* Phone logs of all voice conversations
* Address book entries in the contact list
* Applications installed on the device
* Photos stored on the device.
Included with SMobile Parental Controls is SMobile PointGuard, which blocks unwanted text messages and voice calls. This feature is beneficial for stopping spam, though also useful for blocking communication from undesirable sources such as bullies, or unapproved friends. Also included is VirusGuard, which provides users with real time protection against Malware threats by automatically scanning mobile devices to ensure files are not infected with Malware.

With Palm's Pre Plus (model P101) and Pixi Plus (model P121) already granted US domicile by their FCC host, it's only natural that they'd seek adventure elsewhere before getting serious and going to work for AT&T. Now the Global Certification Forum (GFC) has approved what must be the European versions of Palm's Plus handsets: models P101UEU and P121UEU. Both are quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE as well as dual-band UMTS/HSDPA on the 2100/900MHz frequencies. Now if only Palm could get a few more carriers and countries on board it might actually move some meaningful device quantities in Europe.

Hot on the heels of a ginormous OS X update comes this, the freshest version of the music management software that everyone loves to hate. iTunes 9.1 is live and available to download, bringing with it support for iPad syncing (you know, that little tablet that arrives on Saturday?) as well as the ability to "organize and sync books you've downloaded from iBooks on iPad or added to your iTunes library." The new version also gives users the ability to rename, rearrange, or remove Genius Mixes, but we're fairly sure you stopped caring after hearing the first point. It's weighing in at around 97.3MB (give or take a few KB), so fire up Software Update and get it going... if you dare.
Update: We're hearing that the new version renames "Applications" to just "Apps" and the Genius Mixes / iPhone / iPod touch sync pages have been retooled. Anything else major? Let us know in comments!

It doesn't appear to do anything groundbreaking like overclock your Pre, but it looks like the webOS 1.4.1 update is now starting to trickle out to at least a few lucky users. According to PreCentral, one of the first reports to come in was from a Pre user who also happened to be one of the first to get the webOS 1.4 update while he was in Vietnam, and has now managed to snag the 1.4.1 update while residing in Holland. That was later followed up with a second report from a Sprint customer in Washington, but things seem to have been relatively quiet since them. Still no official word from Palm either, but the update does seem to be as minor as the number revision suggestions, with it weighing in at just 6MB. Receive yours yet? Let us know in comments.
Update: So that's what the update does -- according to Recombu, the update should allow European webOS users to finally spend their hard-earned quids and Euros on paid apps. PreCentral additionally reports that O2 Germany customers can now download the Mobile Hotspot app. Cheers!
Update 2: We're getting a 1.4.1.1 10mb patch on our Sprint Pre as we speak, while a list of changes has arrived on Palm.com with one notable difference -- the old NFL Mobile App has been renamed Sprint Football Live -- but otherwise it appears to be the same. Meanwhile the word on PreCentral is that Verizon customers may be in for a wait of up to a few weeks for their own update, so slowing the pace of update checks to just once every 5 minutes would appear to be a reasonable course of action.

This one needs very little explication indeed. Netflix has just officially confirmed that its currently iPad-only app will be trickling down to the smaller iPhone OS devices. It's all very teasing and noncommittal as far as the timeframe goes, but who's not excited about getting the "dessert" to the iPad's main course?

We're pretty sure this isn't an April Fool's joke, and we're pretty sure that it could be. Essentially an iPhone dock that sits on your face like a pair of glasses, "Head-Mounted Display Apparatus for Retaining a Portable Electronic Device with Display" details a headset that contains a stereo display and either a camera or a window for your phone's camera. Also included in the patent application is a microphone, speaker, batteries, and an accelerometer for detecting the user's head movements. Something like this would be great for augmented reality applications -- and something like this would make ever getting a date that much more difficult. We'll let you know if this one ever makes it past the drawing board, folks.

You better believe it when notorious iPhone jailbreaker MuscleNerd -- a well-respected member of the iPhone Dev-Team -- declares root access on an iPad. According to this fella's tweets, this new hack is a port of Comex's "Spirit" jailbreak that exploits a bug found on both iPhone OS 3.1.3 and the iPad's 3.2. No downloads are offered right at this moment, but it shouldn't be long before we can throw in all sorts of wild apps and widgets as we wish.

ThinkGeek has announced a cool new accessory for that iPad you're too ashamed to be seen buying in the Apple Store. iCade is an arcade cabinet/dock that lets you play all your favorite vintage arcade games at your desk, on the airplane, or in the bathroom with an authentic look and feel. Games are still being licensed, but iCade's launch titles include Dig Dug, Donkey Kong, Q-Bert, and everyone's favorite, Super Steve Brothers. Quarters, thick veil of cigarette smoke, and annoying eight-year-olds are not included.

Apple has just patented a design for an iPhone gaming add-on after admitting that the iPhone is somewhat hard to use as a games machine. The catch is that the design is not theirs. It was designed by a team of gaming aficionados, one member of which, Craig 'craigix' Rothwell of OpenPandora fame, is already twittering like mad about the shot just fired by Apple in their direction. The iControlPad team are in contact with their IP lawyer, since their design is already in production. Will Apple still try to steamroll right through them?

Appleās new device reportedly ājailbrokenā just hours after it debuted at US retail
An existing loophole used to crack the security features of the iPhone has allowed hackers to jailbreak the iPad just hours after Appleās new tablet device hit the US.
Known American iPhone hacker MuscleNerd has, as spotted by TechRadar, already posted videos online that appear to show him running unsigned code on the machine, meaning that all manner of software ā including pirated games and emulators ā can now be booted.
Though the hack is only possible for those with a high level of technical knowledge for the time being, it is expected that a user-friendly jailbreak solution could hit the internet in a matter of days.
āA jailbreak was expected following the iPad's launch, but the rapid discovery has shown that the iPhone 3.2 firmware used on the device hasn't patched all of the security holes that were present in the 3.1.3 code,ā the site claims.
Famed iPhone hacker George Hotz claimed recently that he expected to produce an iPad hack shortly after the deviceās release but has thus far been quiet ion the subject.

Is iPhone planning to make a physical gaming accessory for iPhone, iPod touch or even iPad?
That's the gist of a patent application by the company, which came to light last Thursday. And yes, we've run our April Fool's filter on it, and it appears to be genuine.
The patent shows several physical devices, which act as cases for portable electronic devices (i.e. iPhones). They have physical buttons and D-pads, as well as vibration and camera functions.
There's even one design that looks just like a DS, with the iPhone acting as one of two screens.
It's intriguing stuff, although it's already caused a rumpus. The firm behind the iControlPad accessory blogged last Friday that "We were very surprised to see that Apple have allegedly filed a patent for our original iControlPad design some 6 months after we revealed it".
Founder Craig Rothwell has since tweeted that he plans to post a YouTube video "speaking directly to Apple" - albeit only after getting advice from the company's lawyer.

Apple's iPad has already sold 300K units in just a day on sale in the US - but the firm has been tight lipped on the exact date of a UK roll out.
However entertainment and celebrity news site Digital Spy reckons the date for UK launch is soon - April 24th in fact.
The site says a 'source close to Apple' has tipped it off on the news.
Apple has not confirmed the claim as yet - but it had previously said the device will hit the UK in April, not long after the initial US launch.
And it is due to detail more about the iPhone 4.0 OS on Thursday this week. Apple could potentially flesh out its global iPad roll out plans at the same time.
It's not yet known what UK pricing for the device will be, but estimates range from Ā£380 upwards, depending on the model/capacity.

The iPad sold over 300,000 in its first day on sale in the US, according to Apple.
iPad launched on April 3rd to the customary hype - people queued outside Apple's retail stores for hours beforehand, hundreds of developers launched download apps for the device, and the media spent the Easter weekend mulling over whether or not the device would have as much impact as the iPhone before it.
Apple certainly thinks the release is a momentous event - even if that 300K sales figure comes in beneath analysts' projections of over half a million sold.
āIt feels great to have the iPad launched into the worldāitās going to be a game changer,ā said Steve Jobs, Appleās CEO, in a statement.
āiPad users, on average, downloaded more than three apps and close to one book within hours of unpacking their new iPad.ā
He's not wrong about the speed with which iPad owners have consumed media - iTunes saw over a million apps downloaded for the large-scale touchscreen, and 250,000 ebook sales through the iBookstore.
While it's a US-only product for now, current rumours suggest the device may be launching as soon as April 24th in the UK.

Today the iPad was launched in the United States, meaning the eagerly awaited Apple tablet is now in the hands of the public. Based on the relative success of previous gadgets released by Steve Job's company, that means that either an industry is set to be revolutionised (iPod anyone?) or underwhelmed (Apple TV).
Currently in the US just the wi-fi only version is available, priced at between $499 for the 16GB model and $699 for the 64GB device. 3G models are set to arrive in late April, meaning many more patient consumers may well be waiting before they purchase.
Of course, games optimised for ā or exclusively for ā the iPad will now be rolling out the App Store, but numbers and sales are yet to be confirmed, and will likely remain shrouded in mystery for quite some time.

A lot of the big iPad launch games are new versions of existing iPhone games with better graphics and a few new features.
Which is fine, but it's good to see that some publishers are debuting entirely new games for Apple's tablet too.
Tapulous, for example. The company is best known for its Tap Tap Revenge music games on iPhone, although it diversified recently with Riddim Ribbon, a game built around the Black Eyed Peas.
Its first iPad game is called Tap Tap Radiation, and it builds on the success of Tap Tap Revenge. It's another music game, with more than 50 free and premium tracks available to tap along to, including songs by Mos Def, David Guetta and Pink.
Oh, and Lady Gaga - there's a six-song download pack available, including monster hits Telephone, Bad Romance and Poker Face.

Insurance firm Swiftcover says its iPhone app has helped two hikers find each other in snowbound Swedish mountains after they became separated.
The app, which is called Stuck, uses geo-location tech to allow people to post a Twitter-style message about their locations or situations. This info is then uploaded to a map of the world with a time stamp.
Other iPhone users can then click on the stamp and, using Google maps, zoom in to locate the person who posted the Stuck.
So when Nico Vittorio and Paul Alonso became separated in the Sarek National Park region of Sweden they pair used Stuckās āNear-Meā function ā which flags up other users nearby ā to locate each other, tracking their progress until their paths met.
The app was developed by swiftcover.comās innovation lab and has been downloaded 10,000 times since it was launched in January.
