Jet Set GamesTM today announced that HighbornTM, the critically and commercially successful turn-based strategy game for the iPhone and iPod Touch, is now part of the OpenFeint social gaming community. Highborn version 1.1.0 is now live on the iTunes App Store at http://itunes.com/app/Highborn and will be on sale for only $.99 beginning Saturday, July 31 through Sunday, August 8.

Apple has confirmed that the iPhone 4 will be launched in 17 new countries this Friday, July 30th.
The countries on the list include Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Singapore, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
The iPhone 4 arrived in key markets such as the US, UK, France, Germany and Japan on June 24th. Further international rollout is promised for later this year.

A number of people in the United States, who allege that the iPads they were sold overheat and deactivate within minutes, have brought a lawsuit against Apple.
According to Mac World, the suit accuses Apple of fraud, deceptive advertising, violations of consumer protection and unfair business practices by selling defective devices. They have also asked the presiding judge to grant the case class action status.
“The iPad does not live up to the reasonable consumer's expectations created by Apple insofar as the iPad overheats so quickly under common weather conditions that it does not function for prolonged use outdoors, or in many other warm conditions,” reads the claim.
“Using the iPad is not 'just like reading a book' at all since books do not close when the reader is enjoying them in the sunlight or in other normal environmental conditions. This promise, like other portions of Apple's marketing material for the iPad, is false.”

Taking newly released data from The Game Trail, a unique video-based app-discovery app which allows gamers to watch games in action before they buy, Fabrication games have been able to see exactly what it was that most players were searching for. Based on the most popular search strings Fabrication Games came up with an idea for a game.

President of Fabrication Games, Tommy Palm, explains, “I have always been curious to know what games are most sought after and thanks to The Game Trail we now have that data available and we’ve made use of it.”
Obviously Fabrication haven’t been able to combine all of the search terms, both for practical and licensing issues, as Tommy continues to detail. “Basically we saw a challenge in making a game on the request of the search strings. We would have loved to make a Free Mario Zombie game but I am not convinced Nintendo would have appreciated that so much. So we removed all the trademark words from our new game. That way we still got the world’s most sought after game per definition. The entire team was thrilled by the idea and we squeezed in this production on our spare time in parallel to our normal projects.”

If you thought Symbian^3 is meant to be just a short-lived stepping stone in Nokia's smartphone evolution, then you'll be surprised. Starting with the upcoming N8, Nokia aims to ship more than 50 million Symbian^3 devices in the coming years, alongside devices using other versions of the Symbian OS, said Nokia CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo and CFO Timo Ihamuotila, talking with industry analysts today. They promised a whole "family" of Symbian^3 devices, reinforcing Nokia's strategy that Symbian will remain at the heart of its smartphones in the future.
"The feedback from operators on the N8 and Symbian^3 has been very good," they said. "The Nokia N8 will have a user experience superior to that of any smartphone Nokia has produced. I'm optimistic that the N8 will be the first step towards overcoming the challenges we face at the high end of our portfolio."
They explained that the N8 and Symbian^3 mark a change in the way Nokia creates smartphones. For one thing, the approach is a lot more software-centric, which should make product development easier. For another, Symbian^3 will also be much more uniform across different phones than has been the case with previous Symbian releases. This spells good news for developers (and the people that use their applications) since they will be able to more easily create apps that work across the whole family.
They also touched on the role of Symbian and MeeGo in Nokia's portfolio. "Symbian is about leveraging scale and expanding the smartphone category to cover a broad mass market footprint. In contrast, MeeGo is about leveraging speed and agility to create industry leading flagship solutions."

There's also Place Pages, which now shows the operating hours of listed businesses, compass direction and distance from your location. It's available now for all Android phones using v1.6 or newer, and if you're rocking a BlackBerry, you can expect the Place Page to head your way soon.

As we discussed recently, a CNN article had a statement that '77% of iPhone owners say they'll buy another iPhone, compared to 20% of Android customers who say they'll buy another Android phone.' This was a gross misrepresentation. The CNN story now has up this note: 'Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly said that 20% of Android customers say they'll buy another Android phone. The survey actually revealed that 20% of all smartphone customers say they'll buy an Android phone.' The Yankee Group has further sought to clarify the situation by saying that the 20% are people who explicitly said they would buy a 'Google-branded' phone (which excludes the overwhelming majority of popular Android phones) — as Google gets out of the business of selling branded phones. Summarizing their position on Android: 'Yankee Group still believes that Android will become the next breakout mobile phone platform, making it the third most popular platform behind iPhone and RIM's Blackberry in installed base for at least the next five years.'

It's not exactly official, but should also surprise no one: According to a new study the psychological profile of iPad owners can be summed up as 'selfish elites' while have-not critics are 'independent geeks.' Consumer research firm MyType conducted the study, in which opinions of 20,000 people were analyzed between March and May. The firm's conclusion was that iPad owners tend to be wealthy, sophisticated, highly educated and disproportionately interested in business and finance, while they scored terribly in the areas of altruism and kindness. In other words, 'selfish elites.
