Provided you're somewhere with a stable internet connection, it's now perfectly possible to replace your old-fashioned radio set with a tablet. Most stations have a dedicated app these days and it's easy enough to connect a pair of headphones or a cheap wireless speaker to enhance your listening. The BBC embraced this trend a couple of years back by siphoning iPlayer radio into a separate app, but now it's going one step further with dedicated apps for iPad, Kindle Fire and Android tablets. As you might expect, all three have been designed with larger screens in mind, which should make it easier to jump between stations, find archived shows and see when your favourite DJ is up next. The new tablet apps come with a "work-in-progress" label though, so the odd technical hiccup is likely. In the future, the BBC says it'll be adding features such as Favourites and Playlister too, the latter of which helps you transfer your new musical discoveries to services like Spotify.

If the engine quits in a small plane, it's not the end of the world -- just glide to the nearest airport and make a dead-stick landing. Simple, right? Sure, if the pilot makes perfect, lightning-quick decisions. Since we're only human, there's now an iPad app called Xavion that can connect with a small-plane's autopilot, find the nearest airport and, if possible, fly you to the runway's threshold by itself. It'll even tell you if you can'tmake it, so that you can find a nearby farmer's field instead. According to Popular Science, the autopilot update will arrive in a few weeks for the app, which currently offers manual pilot assistance in an emergency (see the video below).

We love the idea of orientation gestures (used by Samsung, HTC and Moto phones and apps like Tasker), but they aren't natively supported on iOS, Android or Windows Phone yet. Microsoft seems ready to buck that trend with the launch of a Gestures Beta app for WP8 Lumia phones. As shown below, it'll let you answer a call by raising the phone to your ear, listen on speakerphone by setting it on a table and mute the mic with a face-down flip. Microsoft planned to launch a similar feature for WP8.1 called "3D Touch" with other features like a grip sensor, possibly alongside the now-defunct McLaren phone. There's no sign that'll come anytime soon, but at least there's now an app -- just bear in mind that it's still in beta, and functionality is "limited" for the Lumia 530, 630 and 635.

Today, Apple was found not guilty in an iPod antitrust case that was brought against it almost a decade ago. The decision comes after a week-long trial that accused the Cupertino company of forcefully locking in consumers into iTunes software and preventing them from using other services thanks to the now-defunct FairPlay DRM. Prosecuting attorney Patrick Coughlin said in the trial a few days ago that the DRM also caused non-iTunes music to disappear. Apple responded by saying the DRM was a security measure that protected consumers. In the end, the jury unanimously sided with Apple, stating that the product was legitimate. The plaintiffs' lawyers, who represent a group of iPod customers affected by the DRM, were looking for $350 million in damages, which could have easily tripled if Apple was found guilty.

The Nexus 9 didn't completely knock our socks off, but HTC's inaugural Lollipop tablet just got a little better... if you're willing to pay a premium, anyway. T-Mobile's now selling an LTE-enabled version of the tablet on its enthusiast-only Underground store for $600, or $25 a month for the next two years if smaller, drawn-out payments are more your speed. Other than its compatibility with T-Mobile's LTE network, this version of the tablet is identical to the $479, 32GB WiFi model we reviewed last month, but we're still curious what those faster data speeds mean for this little guy's battery life. Nothing good, we'd wager. And if you're not the biggest fan of T-Mobile's posturing? Fair enough: It shouldn't take too long for an unlocked model to pop up in the Google Play Store, though the tab will make an appearance there before the holidays is anyone's guess.
