Looks like Apple wants to make sure to own a piece of every sector of the iPod accessory market. In addition to the $349 iPod Hi-Fi, the company also announced its own $99 leather iPod case. Sure, it's a pretty basic sleeve, and only fits the iPod with video or nano, but if you want an official Apple case with an Apple logo and "iPod" stamped on the front, this is the place to go (though we hear there are some pretty convincing knockoffs available on Canal Street for about $15).

We're not quite sure why you'd want to download tracks to your iPod Nano from an expensive mobile phone operator-run music store rather than the cheaper, iPod-friendly iTunes Music Store, but US start-up Wingspan Investment Partners says it will let you do so this Summer for a mere $199.
Its iLoad-c will fit onto the back of a Nano and connect the device to music stores run by Verizon, Sprint/Nextel, Cingular and T-Mobile, ready to buy and download songs over the air - with the extra GPRS usage levy that implies. It's a novel idea, and one that makes almost instant musical gratification a possibility. Wingspan's iLoad-c mock-up implies the device has its own screen and controls which interface with the music stores.
How the company proposes to get past the services' DRM remains to be seen. Cingular's mMode Music Store, for example, uses Windows' WMA format, so the iLoad-c will have to convert the music content into AAC format, and WMA's DRM instructions into their FairPlay equivalents before transferring the track to the Nano.
A potential infringement of the notorious Digital Millennium Copyright Act? Possibly, but Apple's reluctance to sue RealNetworks for employing a similar DRM-translation approach suggests not.
Wingspan also alluded this week to the iLoad-c's Wi-Fi support, which could, with a little ITMS reverse engineering, allow the device to tap into the Apple music store directly, saving the company the need to do all the DRM handling. Of course, that limits iLoad-c's applicability to home WLANs and Wi-Fi hotspots.
So far, all Wingspan has on the iLoad website is some graphical mock-ups and a Flash animation showing how the system might work. We look forward to seeing the device in the flesh this summer.

Payload, the futuristic story-led combat racing game designed exclusively for the N-Gage platform, received a dedicated micro-site today, featuring never seen before in-game footage and information at www.payload-game.com.
The micro-site www.payload-game.com, invites gamers to see the first cinematic trailer, created by award-winning creative studio Alkemi Entertainment, which gives you a behind the scenes peek into the world of Payload. The micro-site lifts the shroud of secrecy behind the Payload experience and includes character information, world locations, a three-part developer diary, plus a range of screensavers and desktop images for the ultimate Payload fan.
"Payload and www.payload-game.com are a testament to the rich story and game depth that is possible on the N-Gage platform," said Gregg Sauter, Director, Games Publishing, Nokia. "Payload combines strategy, combat and traditional racing, where a player can play against up to three friends with an N-Gage game deck via Bluetooth wireless technology for a superior combat racing experience. Or, players can upload high-scores on to the N-Gage Arena to compare their scores with fellow N-Gage gamers."
Payload for the N-Gage platform is a fast-paced combat action racing game where players use 'skims' to traverse exotic and deadly terrains on the Planet Ararat. 'Skims' are futuristic hovercraft bristling with weapons and, combined with a steady hand and lightning reflexes, are the primary tools of the Pitrunner. Players become Abel Harker, a Pitrunner who vies for the right to courier a precious crystalline fuel source called Furium, in a deadly race of death, destruction and mayhem against other Pitrunners. Pitrunning is a ruthless and cutthroat occupation where fortunes can be made or lost in a hail of weapons fire.
Payload for the N-Gage platform is scheduled to ship in Spring 2006.

With the number of rumors circulating about today's Apple product launches, at least some of them had to be right. And one was. No, we're not talking about the video shuffle. Apple has decided to go after the boombox crowd, as well as home listeners, with the iPod Hi-Fi, a $349 speaker system with built-in iPod dock, that runs on D batteries, as well as AC power. A rear-mounted Aux input works with the iPod shuffle (and third-party audio players, though you won't hear Apple mention that). That sound you just heard, by the way, wasn't the iPod Hi-Fi. It was the sound of a hundred iPod accessory makers moaning in agony.

Yeah, you could fill your iPod with a variety of crap stuff from the iPod video store, or you could take your already existent DVD collection and do it yourself. Those krazy kats at Wired are highlighting the semi-legal process of converting your own DVD over to the iPod. We suggest not writing a letter to the MPAA telling them what DVDs you converted and the process. Best of all, the entire process is done with the help of freeware!

The iPod really has become the cat’s pajamas. This can be proven by the wide variety of accessories that comes around for this digital audio player. Techeblog has highlighted the 10 strangest iPod accessories out there. Making the list are mostly docks and carrying cases, but our personal favorite, the iBuzz tops Techeblog’s list. Other highlights from the list include the iPod toilet paper dispenser and the iPod compatible bed.

ThinkSecret, who love to gossip even more than we do, are reporting that one of their "good friends" "accidentally" "let it slip" that along with the video iPod, Intel Mac mini, iSight-sportin' 13-inch widescreen MacBook, Media Cube, "touch finger LCDs," 17-inch MacBook Pro, and countless other devices that Steve Jobs will definitely reveal to be the promised "fun new products" on Tuesday, is a "HiFi" boombox for the iPod that will "deliver unique capabilities beyond what today's third-party docking speaker systems offer." Now ThinkSecret has been known to get it right more than once, and it seems that their accuracy only improves as an announcement gets closer, so this rumored product doesn't sound as wild as some of the others being tossed around. As usual, though, all we can do is wait, and fill that waiting time with speculation after speculation after speculation.

Hello, I have a question... but, this is more of a problem, rather than a question...
Take in account, though, that the cellphone were I'm trying to install the thing is an N-Gage (sortta ovious)
Now,for all of you guys who have the emulator, know that you have to install a special .sis file to activate the roms (both sistem and game files) installed on the emulator (I'm installing it on my MMC)
Thing is, the tool kit the site gives you worls for the 1.10 version, NOT for the 1.07 version (the only compatible version with the N-Gage). So the .SIS file the program gives you doesn't work!!!
Also...
Since I've already given up any hopes of finding the system tools for v.107 (BTW, I can't install v.1.10... it isn't compatible), I began looking for OLDER system tools. On http://ngage.dcemu.co.uk/fmsx.shtml I was able to find the s.t for ver. 1.04, and after downloading it I THEN downloaded v1.04 via the history sectoin of the main page (http://personal.inet.fi/private/riih...0/fmsxs60.html) ... unfortunantly, after doing the whole thing (making both the .gz and the .sis versions of the roms, moving them to the MMC, etc), the installer of the roms doesn't works!!! (In the middle of the process, a system error appears and the installation stays incomplete... and the roms doesn't works).
(BTW, the games I'm trying to play are metal gear 1 and 2... the 2 roms I own have been tested with nlMSX already, and they DO work).
Please, I need some help here. I'm desperate.
Thanks in advance
El Cernex

The Morel Nova MKII surround system gives you 6.1 sound without all those clunky speakers taking up a lot of space and generally looking ugly. Perched atop wispy white and gently curved SoundStands are half-moon-shaped surround speakers that complement the minimalist design of the 100-watt SoundSub 9 subwoofer that’s pretty enough to sit out front. Small size, big sound, and soon to be launched at a pricey $863.

Finally, for the man who has everything -- except a job where he can dress casually -- it's the Commuter Tie from Thomas Pink. The bright pink silk tie has a hidden pocket on the back that's the perfect size for an iPod nano, and includes an extra loop to keep headphone wires from getting tangled (though from Pink's promo pic, right, it looks like the wires will get a bit jammed anyhow, since the headphone jack on the nano is on the bottom). We can't help but worry that using this with anything heavier than a nano would result in a curious tightening around the throat -- not to mention a rather unattractive stretching of our neckwear. And if you're going to spend $95 on a tie, we'd like to think you can also come up with a few bucks for a dedicated carrying case for your audio player. Of course, all of this is irrelevant to us, since we're not in the market for a pink tie -- it would clash horribly with our pajamas.

Apple will next week announce that it's going to start selling full-length movie downloads through the iTunes Music Store, if the forecast of a US market watcher is correct. The prediction comes in the week the company passed the 1bn music downloads mark.
The one billionth song was downloaded early this morning, Apple said, nine weeks shy of ITMS' third birthday. At this rate, the store should have sold 1.5bn songs by the end of the year - sometime in the Summer, we'd say. Song number 2bn should be downloaded early in 2007, but again, that's assuming Apple continues to experience an exponential growth rate.
Adding movie downloads will undoubtedly help, if only by raising ITMS' profile even further as a one-stop content shop. The forecast that that's what Apple will announce next week comes from American Technology Research analyst Shaw Wu, who told clients "there is a greater than 50 per cent chance that Apple will announce its first, full-length feature films available for download on iTunes", Macworld UK reports.
Wu also joined the chorus of claims Apple will announce Intel-based iBooks and an "entry-level Mac Mini, both of which will now include a remote control and FrontRow software".
"What will make this new consumer notebook unique and likely a top seller is its small size and widescreen cinema display. Pricing should be competitive in the $1,299 to $1,499 range," he added.

February 22nd, 2006, 16:57 Posted By: wraggster
Following the appointment of two liquidation firms earlier this month, creditors of Gizmondo Europe are being sought for a meeting to assess the value of the remaining company assets and complete the dissolution of the firm.
Gizmondo executives had made numerous attempts to rescue the firm, the latest efforts failing at the beginning of February as the High Court refused an application for administration and forced the company to accept the inevitable liquidation of its remaining assets.
Two liquidation firms, David Rubin and Partners and Bigbee and Traynor, were appointed immediately following the court ruling, and are now seeking contact from any remaining creditors with an interest in the company.
According to the official statement from the liquidators, David Rubin and Asher Miller from David Rubin and Partners are responsible for liaising with the creditors and for realising the value of Gizmondo's assets, while Paul Davis and Tim Dolder, liquidators at Begbies Traynor, will be conducting an investigation into the causes of the company's collapse and extent of the losses.
Gizmondo Europe, the subsidiary of US firm Tiger Telematics, has amassed net losses of approximately GBP 140 million in the nine-month period to September 2005, having previously lost GBP 49 million in the year ended December 31st 2004. Financial irregularities, the resignation of key executives in October 2005 and persistent rumours of criminal ties have all contributed to the company's demise.
Gizmondo's Swedish development studios, Manchester studios and several further EU operations have all been liquidated, and there remains little hope for the survival of its US arm, which could also be sold off in an effort to meet the overwhelming list of creditors.
The investigation into the full extent of the company's financial losses, and the catalyst behind its demise will continue through Begbies Traynor, and creditors are asked to contact David Rubin and Partners in the interim.

Gamasutra recently spoke with Senior Manager for N-Gage at Nokia, Jani Karlsson, about the future of the Finnish company's gaming-phone hybrid.
While it's understandable that not much new information was ready to be released before the Game Developers Conference next month, some of the statements made bore the markings of PR platitudes that stretch the boundaries of believability (even for what we tend to expect from the suits). A sampling of the worst lines given:
"Well, as we're fond of saying - [the N-Gage journey has] been a great learning experience." [Text italicized for emphasis.]
"And obviously there have been tremendous successes with things like the arena, with the subs base being huge - the largest gaming community there is."
"It's very interesting to see those [consumer-feedback] results, we always do a huge amount of research to see what the consumers think about our products and actually the original N-Gage got some of the highest rating on any of our devices. People who liked it really liked it a lot - some didn't, but those who did really loved it."
"Yeah, that is true - especially in the European and U.S. side, there hasn't been so much communication [in terms of public visibility]. Thought [sic] in Asia and in China especially its selling very strongly. It's a shift in focus rather than being quiet.... As we're seeing in Asia and China - there's a huge demand. Perhaps lesser so in the U.S."
The best exchange actually occurred near the end when the interviewer (GS) asked whether Karlsson (JK) could posit a time when the mobile phone gaming device could be offered as an alternative to a PSP or DS.
Here it is:
JK: I wouldn't compare those two experiences
GS: Neither would I at the moment.. But we can speculate right?
JK: Sure we can speculate..
(PR representation interjection..) actually, no we can't..
JK: Right. I can't speculate.
Nokia's N-Gage mobile gaming format has certainly experienced its ups and downs, but making these kinds of statements--especially without numbers to back them up or caveats to qualify them--will probably give the company an even worse image (at least with the side-talkin' elite) than if they had simply come out and admitted mistakes in the past. The question remains whether mainstream folks (in the dark about Nokia's gaming machinations) will embrace the platform as a part of their mobile phone service in the future or not. Some straight talkin' might help.

Salvage those old iPod accessories with this inexpensive item from uLink. This $17 adapter will give the nano that little sliver plug-in that was used on the majority of the previous iPod models. This will allow for the old iTrip, iPod remote and iBeam to work with the nano. There are still some tweaks to be worked out because the Griffin iTalk and Belkin Voice Recorder do not work. Seventeen bones to salvage hundred of dollars worth of accessories? Sounds like a deal to me.

Skype is working on complete Series 60 compatibility for later this year, allowing for 3G VoIP chat and SkypeOut calls on many popular phones, including models from Nokia and Sony Ericsson. The current version of S60 Skype has a bit of a latency problem but supports instant messaging, SkypeOut, and standard Skype-to-Skype chat. Shown here, a S60 Nokia 6680 running Skype.

After realizing that the iPod Video was all but scratch-proof Seth Fogie decided to do something about it. In comes the PSP, a device with a screen that is built like a rock. Luckily he has an extra PSP plate laying around and after disassembling the iPod he noticed some similarities between the two screens. A brilliant idea was born and he began working. After a long, painstaking process of precision Dremeling and filing, he finally had a perfect fit. Congrats on your one-of-a-kind scratch-proof iPod Video, Seth.

The only thing hindering my iPod Video is the inability to fully enjoy the video in public. Believe it or not I get self-conscience watching fetish porn in public.
The foreign company, Digital CowBoy, has released a product for all of the fetish porn fans out there. This privacy filter makes the screen on the iPod Video only viewable from directly in front. No more worries about that neighbor on the subway thinking you are a freak. Watch away, friend.
